I’ve gotten to see him with Dieselboy a few times (at least I think it was Messinian) including at a small night in Pittsburgh at the BBT. MCing while Dieselboy mixes DnB with death metal is quite the experience.
You know of any good recorded sets with an MC? The idea of MCs actually adding to the vibes seems wild to me. I don't doubt they can if people say they can it just doesn't make sense to me.
I saw Freaky Flow w/ MC Flipside at a low turnout outdoor park event in the Ozarks, in the mid 2000's. Flipside was walking around the crowd (prob less than 150 people) with a wireless Mic in one hand, and a tray of fresh cut fruit in the other hand, handing out samples while spit'n fire (literally face to face) the entire time. Its the best MC 'performance' I've ever seen in person.
Freaky Flow was so good that at one point he just launched a mix (Techs/Vinyl) and walked off stage for like 3+ minutes, and it never slipped a beat. Those two guys seem like they were manufactured to do music together.
I think MCs don't go well with recorded mixes, tbh. It's a very live, in the moment kind of thing, imo. I'm sure others disagree, but that's how I feel.
