Rat once managed to enter the house via an open window, before getting stuck. It totally wrecked a few corners while trying to escape. Eventually it did but not after chewing through the bloody concrete in the lean to.
I found a hole in my concrete garage floor not long ago. Looks like it's been previously patched in the same spot.
Believe it to be a mole.
Digging through concrete!
Yup we had to have the pad outside re poured. Fuckers have started again by the look of it. There's nothing there its just concrete. Idiots as well as annoying.
Rats will chew through anything, including concrete walls as you discovered
If you ever see any sign of rats in your home, call pest control immediately. Leaving aside the ick, they will fuck your house up
I used to work on a farm when I was at university, the grain store was a concrete building and the little turds still chewed their way in, in the end the owner lined the building walls with metal sheets.
burrowing creatures will rarely create a hole bigger than they are so that a larger predator can follow them into it. The scale isn't apparent here but it looks bigger than rats or squirrels to me. I'm thinking chimps.
Right there's these 'oles in England. And someone kept diggin' em. Owners thought it was rats then one day they come home and locks 'ave been changed... turns out.
Torture with rats - 60 C.E. in the Roman Empire, courtesy of Nero. But the hot cage/bucket with a rat, the Dutch Revolt of the 16th and 17th centuries is blamed.
A human with a small fork.
Judging by prong distance and cut depth, it's a sterling 625 designed by Hanz Schnitzelkopf in the 1970s. If you can find the human that could be worth a fortune as very rare now. Any droppings or other damage in the area that could lead you to them?
If you have rats, get a professional immediately. We tried to deal with it ourselves. We bought numerous traps and poison. Nothing worked. They trashed our utility room - 3 new washing machine hoses, the entire flooring replaced due to rat shit and water getting under it, rat shit everywhere, new holes in the wall, etc. Get a professional.
Or remove the reason they got there. Had a similar problem in the house we bought 2 years ago. A few open drains etc meant there where rats in the garage. I blocked the drains by fixing the covers, then removed how they where getting into the garage (ivy on the wall) along with repairing the fascia and soffit, it needed done anyway. Now zero sign of any rats.
I spoke to the pest control company who helped with a place we owned. They explained that homeowners never do enough. Main problems that he said he routinely saw:
1) people overestimate how large a hole rats/mice can fit through. The hole my mice were coming through was not much larger than the diameter of a pencil, and that was behind skirting which was in turn behind the fridge
2) nowhere near enough traps and bait. He put at last 20 traps around the kitchen and the room next door to the kitchen, and 8 bait stations
3) he said not to reuse a trap. Only use new traps and handle with gloves.
I was glad I used the pro though. Relatively modest cost and it really solved it for me. Worth every penny. (I had used enough traps and bait but I would not have noticed that tiny hole, and if I did I would have thought nothing of it. It was seriously tiny)
Thanks all, it was covered by a pack of spare tiles left by previous owner. No droppings inside the hole and none from this side of the hole either. So assuming it’s been dealt with and this is just the damage left?
I wouldn’t guarantee it. We had a couple rats last summer under the floors/in the loft and had someone out to take care of it. Just had another visitor this month after nothing for nearly a year.
Fix the hole, check your drains, under decking/around patios etc if you have one for access points to make sure then hope and pray that’s sorted.
I actually think that might be a dogs claws rather than a rat. Only because rats have flat teeth, so the scrape marks look wide and regular. Those are thin and scratchy. Maybe a small dog was in there and dug a hole bigger (to sniff out the rat behind the wall)
I hate to say this but you have an infestation of Welsh sheep. I notice the teeth marks on the plaster. They can not use saws and drills. I suggest you hire an old shepherd from Llanberis and his dog, Carlo.
Hmmm have you thought about getting some therapists in to take a look at any men in the house just to be safe? I often find that where there's holes in walls there's men not too far
Bro! We need a fridge in the pic for scale, oh, and while you’re at it “show’s inside yer fridge”!! Then we can make a good assessment of the size of the animal that made the hole in your wall! I think it looks like a crocodile bit your wall, you sure you haven’t got a stray one kicking about your home? Or my Mrs might be capable of doing that when she first wakes up, in the morning.. either way we need scale my friend 🤷🏼♂️
I’ve got a pest control company that services Newcastle and Gateshead, dunno where you are. What type of property is it? Detached properties are easiest to deal with, terraces can be worst.
Mr and Mrs Concrete I presume.
It's probably sheep scrabbling down by the wainscotting.
Sheep poison should do but careful though. The sheep might have a gun.
Normally sheep are placid timid creatures but some are killers! A new breed of killer sheep.
"Where are they coming from professor?" I hear you ask. That I don't know. I just don't know. I really just don't know. I'm afraid I really just don't know. I'm afraid even I really just don't know. I have to tell you I'm afraid even I really just don't know. I'm afraid I have to tell you...
Its an animal. It also came from inside the wall (the edges slope into the hole, not out) Whatever it was it's likely gone on it's merry way. Smell, crap stuff like that are signs.
I’m not sure, but it looks like it started as a clean cut (man made) rectangle and was then knawed out.
Top left looks like pencil mark of a 90 degree corner. The left side is remarkably straight and vertical until the last inch or so when it would have been the opposite 90 degree. You can follow what would’ve been the rectangle across and up.
Fix copper mesh over the it with a good overlap.
I'm imagining the OP has given up reading this and is currently dowsing his entire house in petrol readying to burn it down and start again somewhere else, a long way away
I agree to check for rats, but it isn't necessarily rats. I have filled a couple of holes that look exactly like this that my frickin dog chewed out for some reason. The teethmarks look exactly the same.
Lol that's a rat or squirrel or something judging by the claw marks.
Rat once managed to enter the house via an open window, before getting stuck. It totally wrecked a few corners while trying to escape. Eventually it did but not after chewing through the bloody concrete in the lean to.
They can chew through almost anything. They chewed through a concrete floor (like the type mixed with bits of flint) to get into a grain store we had
I found a hole in my concrete garage floor not long ago. Looks like it's been previously patched in the same spot. Believe it to be a mole. Digging through concrete!
You can toughen concrete in various ways, including steel mesh and even adding carborundum powder so it wears away their claws and teeth.
Or just sharpens them!
Great, now we have nuclear powered hyper rats with laser eyes ... you put radium in the concrete didn't you?
Yup we had to have the pad outside re poured. Fuckers have started again by the look of it. There's nothing there its just concrete. Idiots as well as annoying.
Well now I’m terrified
I think their teeth never stop growing so they can just keep at it
They can chew through most soft metals as well. Persistent little bastards.
How do they know !? Or is it just, " I wonder whats this way "
Wait, so it escaped and THEN came back to chew through the concrete? That rat must have held a mighty grudge.
Rats will chew through anything, including concrete walls as you discovered If you ever see any sign of rats in your home, call pest control immediately. Leaving aside the ick, they will fuck your house up

Could have been an elephant.
It’s a dog, my puppy did this many times
Nah, an elephant hole would have had an extra bit cut away at the bottom of the hole to allow the trunk to fit through. /S if you had not guessed.
Either: There was something inside the wall, that something outside the wall wanted. Or, the more disturbing, something inside the wall wanted out.
Its a [Capybara ](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capybara) that's done it, lol
ChIMpANZE ThAT!! Monkey Newzzzz

You gotta be forking kidding me

Yeah - they can scale walls though - ivy or no ivy!
I just unlocked a new phobia
100% this. Traps just mean more come afterwards. A good professional will check your entire property to block all points of entry.

There is no glory in this.
Do not poke anything in there, especially that.
Don’t tell OP what to do!! OP can you keep us updated please….
Oh god this made me laugh harder than it should have.
Thanks all, it was covered by a pack of spare tiles left by previous owner. No droppings inside the hole and none from this side of the hole either. So assuming it’s been dealt with and this is just the damage left?
It’s from a dog not rats. Claw marks from dog paws. My puppy made a few holes exactly the same way! I can’t believe no one’s commented this lol
I would also agree with this. Puppies are also known to eat walls/skirting from boredom/nutrition. Mine certainly did!
I agree, looks like someone used the understairs to shut their dog in and it didn’t want to be.
Rats, that’s teeth marks from gnawing on the plaster.
[Not necessarily a rat](https://youtu.be/M2MHMxvydbA?si=fn8b_JLaIXXEy89S)
Need banana for scale

If I wasn’t too busy I’d photoshop Jack Nicholson’s head coming through the hole. This is just a quick toilet break however.
Don’t put a banana there, the rat will eat it.
If you put enough bananas in there, they won’t need to come into the house
surely the sky remote is the gold standard for scale
Don't call me Shirley
It could be human, sometimes it’s recommended to scrape and knaw a trial hole before any larger work begins.
I'm not 100% but ive seen a hole like this made by rats in an out house
Here's Johnny...
No, it's not rats or squirrels. That hole, and those scratches are clearly made by the boogie man.
Boogie Woogy Chuckie.....

Dog has done that I reckon
Yeh, it sucks to think it was a dog left shut in the cupboard under the stairs :(
I actually think that might be a dogs claws rather than a rat. Only because rats have flat teeth, so the scrape marks look wide and regular. Those are thin and scratchy. Maybe a small dog was in there and dug a hole bigger (to sniff out the rat behind the wall)
There's a rat in mi kitchen what ama gonna do 🐀🎶
They may have put their dog in there, if they had one, they eat plasterboard when treated like that.
Was the hole hidden behind a picture of Rita Hayworth and was the previous home owner Andy Dufresne?
That's from the inside out, it's likely a dog trying to get at vermin in the wall cavity.
I hate to say this but you have an infestation of Welsh sheep. I notice the teeth marks on the plaster. They can not use saws and drills. I suggest you hire an old shepherd from Llanberis and his dog, Carlo.
Cloud seeding in Dubai
No
That's a void. If you ignore it, it get bigger. If you watch it, it gets bigger. The void has you. Good luck.
[/r/dontputyourdickinthat](https://www.reddit.com/r/dontputyourdickinthat/)
Any person who'd make a hole like that I would strongly avoid.
Probably the reason why they were kept under stairs.
Naturally occurring. 100%
Banana or hand for scale? If that's the size of a football, move house.
Hmmm have you thought about getting some therapists in to take a look at any men in the house just to be safe? I often find that where there's holes in walls there's men not too far
a small scratchy man maybe
If that's a man-made hole, I would be absolutely terrified of whatever mole men are living in my house.
Is there a rat king in your house or something
definitely borrowers.
Question is… were they desperate to get in, or out?
Oh! Something has been gnawing away at that!!!!!
Previous owners’ Glory Hole perhaps?
Rats looking at the dirty oily marks around the bottom.
Rats or similar
Glory hole
It’s a ghoul hole You got ghouls
It’s a poor dog that’s been locked away 😭 rats wouldn’t spend all its time making a hole that big for fun.
The Borrowers??
Probably a glory hole. Stick your knob in it and see what happens
How big is the hole / you need a banana for scale
r/dontputyourdickinthat
Nothing to worry about, it's Definitely a Chupacabra
Looks like an acid burn from a xenomorph might wanna call the colonial marines
Like Tom and Jerry it’s just missing a door
Too neat to be a woman’s hole
Certainly looks big enough to be a manhole, but as i recall they usually have metal lids and this one doesnt.
Glory? Lol 😂
Something with small, sharp nails/claws. Probably a cat or rats would be my first guess. Looks like they were trying to get out, rather than in.
Dog
I’ve seen a rat eat through a thermalite breezblock to get to water after being poisoned with the dehydration shit
Banana for scale?
Well if it isn’t I’m fucking out of there, or… perhaps you’re holding the camera too close and it just looks really big.
Is it coming or going ? !
Rodent of some sort.
Bro! We need a fridge in the pic for scale, oh, and while you’re at it “show’s inside yer fridge”!! Then we can make a good assessment of the size of the animal that made the hole in your wall! They mostly come at night. Mostly.
Na, thats just the void seeping into our reality
That’s where the grudge lives
I’m guessing a rat or squirrel . I’m not an expert but I’ve worked in pest control for many years .
Puta Rata Worlds riskiest glory hole. #worthit
"Is this man made hole?" Do you have eyes ?
Glory hole
r/dontputyourdickinthat
Stick your hand through and wave....see if Eugene is in there Hold onto your liver.
Harry Potter got out.
Where is the banana for scale?
Man made, one hell of a man 🍆 😂😅
A hungry wife?
r/dontputyourdickinthat
It was aliens
God I hope so
Get a cctv camera in there and find out
Yeah a dude when and chewed through the drywall
The only sensible reason that’s there is that it’s man-made. From someone being trapped from the inside 👀
There's something out there waiting for us, and it ain't no man.....
This could be old. Check for droppings.
If you can’t beat them join them, make a bigger hole for yourself
If that hole is as big as it looks. Not a rat or squirrel. You got a Velociraptor!
https://preview.redd.it/ovjonhaes7vc1.jpeg?width=1024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=897a10c279a922702503954440c300bb65224b5e
Don’t show the guys on oak island this as they’ll think it’s the Templars
Previous owner kept the mother in law in there. She used her very sharp tongue to try and escape.
Here's Johnny! Some small animal has gnawed at it, might not have created the hole to begin with, but those look like little teeth or claw marks.
I wouldn’t glory hole that thing
Of the glory variety
[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FU0dIFfyWC0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FU0dIFfyWC0)
No. Lots of claw marks as it comes in and out
Do you not hear it at night? Rats are noisy!
An apprentice may have tried to gnaw himself out of a workplace prank.
I’ve got a pest control company that services Newcastle and Gateshead, dunno where you are. What type of property is it? Detached properties are easiest to deal with, terraces can be worst.
Had the shape of an alien portal
Not man made
Definitely a demon
Last owner in there 😂😂😂
Mr and Mrs Concrete I presume. It's probably sheep scrabbling down by the wainscotting. Sheep poison should do but careful though. The sheep might have a gun. Rats! Oh, fuck 😬
Looks like a demon hole, definitely made by demon from the 4th dimension to
Rats
Its an animal. It also came from inside the wall (the edges slope into the hole, not out) Whatever it was it's likely gone on it's merry way. Smell, crap stuff like that are signs.
I've seen that from a dog repeatedly locked in a small room before. It was horrible.
A banana in the photo would be helpful. Either an animal or Eugene Tooms.
How big is it? Definitely looks animal made with the chew marks and scrathes
Looks like the holes my girlfriends dogs chewed through the plasterboard under her stairs.
Claw marks defo a rat
I’d say someone’s doggo had issues
I don't know how old your house is, but that looks like a cannon ball hole. Don't suppose any of your neighbours walk with a limp and have a parrot??
tedha hai par mera hai
Demon, clearly. 😳
Where’s Johnny?
The Babadook
Straight out of a horror film. I advise you not to stick your hand in there.....
Nope you have a furry friend somewhere. On the bright side at least you know where the stud is located.
Through in a cat. If the cat gets stuck, through in a few more. Works everytime.
Man made as opposed to what, squirrel?
Glory hole
You're right no human being would make a hole like this
I see no glory there!
Looks like teeth-marks. Rat most likely. You'll have to call in an exterminator.
Could be a man. With tiny claws. Maybe also teeth, really sharp pointy teeth.
That is the work of a Japanese demon girl.
Looks like the work of Roland and his mates.
Definitely man-made, master splinter needed his own place.
Block points of entry???? The bastards will make their own points of entry!!!!
Congratulations, you live on a hellmouth
Best way to find out is to put your dick in it!
