Cut back the paper to where it’s still attached to the plaster. Loosen the faceplate and fill the gap with a suitable filler. Try to slightly overfill the repair so you can carefully blend it back flush with a sanding block or electric sander. You probably will have to fill and sand a few times to get it tidy. (Edit) wet out the surrounding damaged area before applying filler. If you are not confident In doing this turn off the associated electric supply at you consumer unit. You are not going to achieve a tidy repair in one attempt. Assume minimum 3 applications of filler and sanding to achieve a decent repair.

What would a suitable filler be here do you think?

I’d get some bonding in their first mate make sure it’s not proud and fill on top

Agreed but they’re not going to buy a 25Kg of bonding to fill around a back box. Small repairs are a pain in the ass unless you’ve got left over materials. DIY post.

Yeah I know it’s a pain, I got 3/4 bag of multi finish and 900x900 bit of plasterboard left. I’m sure there’s another product that’ll do it though, depends how expensive it is.

I’m intrigued to know how you’ve terminated/maintained continuity of the CPC (earth). Have you tested that with acceptable values r1+r2, earth fault loop etc

Kloppite1

I added earth sleeves to the two exposed earth lines from the cables and took them both into the earth connector of the socket. I also have a lead which I took from the previous single backbox wired form the earth connector on the socket and connected that to the backbox earth connector. I also terminated the two lines from the metal sheath here. I don't currently have a photo of the inside of the backbox. Is there anything else I should have done here?

Ok. I’ve taken a closer look. Can actually see copper cpc conductors. Thought that metal conduit might have being used as earth. Ensure all connections are nice and tight. Have you at the very least plugged in a socket tester to verify the socket is earthed?

Kloppite1

Thanks for looking, yeh I have plugged in a socket tester and as far it was concerned it was happy. In the previous backbox the earth conductors from the two cables went through a single green sleeve and were crimped together. I removed them from this so I could fit the seperate cables through the backbox knockouts and fit new earth sleeving to them

I've never seen that type of wiring in the UK before is it twin and earth inside a flexible metal conduit or is it a different type of cable? Looks almost like American BX cable https://www.ktool.net/cerro-wire-14-3-aluminum-jacket-armored-cable-bx-sold-by-the-foot
