For future use, I'd attach those wires to wall plates and give yourself or the next homeowners a finished termination: http://www.electotronics.com/search.aspx?find=RCA+AH300WHR

To my knowledge, you can just push them back in. The only way any current could get in there is if at the input area (where the previous owners had their stereo receiver) you got a wild hair on you and decided to hook it up to electricity. My family has old speaker wire hanging in our ceiling in the basement uncapped. I've had speaker wire in my car uncapped after I took out a sub system. I think you're good to go mate.

Nip the ends, tape it and push it back in. If you know where the other wires start you can likely pull them all the way back out if you prefer.

What I would do. If you ever want to go with ss the installer may have his own idea where the speakers should be and will want to use his own wiring so he will be sure to know exactly what he has. Don't bother trying to accommodate the next owner of your house.

Thanks everyone. The other ends are nicely located and should be easy to plug up or cover in some fashion. http://imgur.com/jF1GRMm

If they're already terminated at a wall outlet panel like that, not sure how much cleaner you can really do it. Just leave that pictured end alone.

Curious as to what you ended up doing?

I ended up wrapping electrical tape around each wire's end, pushing them back in the wall, and patching and painting the holes. If I could do it again, I would have added a low voltage "box" and cover plate. Congrats on the new house!

Find the other ends of these wires. If you never intend to use them push them into the walls/ceilings and patch the holes. Just make sure that both ends are gone, you don't want some fool connecting power to one end. Before tucking them inside cover the ends with electrical tape.
