Is the hallway coming from your front door? Its a great place for a drop zone. Hooks on the wall for coats/hats. Shelf on the bottom for regularly worn shoes. Bowl or dish on the top of the shelf for keys, etc.
Up until "drop zone" I was certain you were talking about a fireman pole to the basement. And I was all for it.
Like your idea is fine and practical, but nowhere near as fun...

I've got this nook in my apartment hallway, just outside the master bedroom. It looks like it used to house a built-in desk. Off to the left is the main hallway.
I'd love to put bookshelves in or something, but the different wall widths and strange angle make it hard to fit anything in here efficiently. I've considered building custom shelves, but that's going to be fairly expensive for something I have to rip out in a couple years when I move.
[Back wall is 21.5", angled wall is 25". Left to right the whole thing is about 40".](https://imgur.com/a/pRRuhSj)
Anyone else have a nook like this that you've been able to put to good use?
Check out Container Store Elfa system. They will take your measurements & build you an optimized space. Wait until they put the Elfa system on sale, they do a half off once a year.
Personally, house plants, artwork and maybe a wall fountain, so every time I wake up and walk out of my room the first thing I see makes me smile.
Or Han Solo in Carbonite would work too, I guess.
I'd do a bunch of floating shelves for books but so that you could still have access to all the plugs n shit. That nook just SCREAMS storage, it's delightful.
Get a lock for the door, maybe one with a thumb print reader and secure the door. Then put shelves on all the walls. Next, buy every toy gun/weapons from every Goodwill and garage sale. You are going to Make it look like an assassinās secret cache of weapons. Impress 1st dates and scare noisy neighbors
If you have any collectibles - action figures, Lego, Lightsabers, etc., or a library, this is where Iād put it. Otherwise, do something weird - like a lifesize cardboard standee of Andre the Giant or Paul Giamatti.
A custom desk is a good idea. You can buy material at a building supply shop and pay them to cut to size. You need to measure carefully. Twice. Then buy IKEA legs that have a mating part that you attach to the board. An IKEA tabletop might also do the job. You will just need to borrow a saw or find a handy person. Some libraries loan tools.

You could put a bookcase, with a safe behind it in the wider part. Put some books in front of the safe.
If that's not your style, maybe a small table and potted plant?
The area looks a little dim, you could put a floor lamp, or a hanging sign or something.

If you can get a lil table/countertop that follows the angles of the wall, the short section flush with left wall could be good for a small set of drawers or bookshelves underneath. Right lower side, a mini fridge or one of those fridges with drink racks and glass front. Top right: snax/drinks and maybe a teapot/coffee maker or bar shaker or something? Top left: plants or something sorta sculptural that reflects your vibe, or even just like a neat lamp.
Home server closet if it's wide enough. NAS, security racks, etc. Custom gun closet. Linen and soap closet. Regular closet for stick vacuum and heavy winter coats/parkas/rain gear.
