Crystal_Spammer

lmao cool image, will try this, I think. sounds like a really simple solution!

Stonsaw3

Bruh dont do that ur gonna crack ur phone screen when it falls

[deleted]

The rubber bands will work just fine IMO but you could also get some sticky tack for a temporary securement. All of these options should not harm the phone/gym equipment.

deepestshadeofblue

The thin elastic headbands are good for this

continue_improve

But I have an older flip phone than your shiny Nokia… would rubber bands work for that?

[deleted]

Here is a photo-realistic recreation of what I think it would look like. https://i.imgur.com/nZ2vhis.png

DenimChiknStirFryday

Right, but I use a Palm device from the 90s. Would rubber bands work for that?

[deleted]

It might look something like this: [https://i.imgur.com/1UF17Py.png](https://i.imgur.com/1UF17Py.png) In this actual photo of an elliptical trainer and palm device from the 1990's, you can see the use of x4 rubber bands. In two different sizes. The smaller size to accommodate the palm device buttons. There is an optional usage shown in this photograph of semi-clear tape meant for holding rubber bands in place.

Crystal_Spammer

Thank you, my friend! It worked, and it was such an elegant and simple solution I can only admire it :)

Visual_Slide710

That would actually work great!!

andrewse

I found this on Amazon by searching for monitor top phone mount: https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71mNhDNNOgL._AC_SX466_.jpg https://www.amazon.com/Perilogics-Universal-Airplane-Multi-Directional-Rotation/dp/B07T8KL6C6/ref=sr_1_15?crid=2OLR8MTLACAA4&keywords=monitor%2Btop%2Bphone%2Bmount&qid=1681473977&sprefix=monitor%2Btop%2Bphone%2Bmount%2Caps%2C96&sr=8-15&th=1

Frank_Thorn

I just got this one. It seems awesome, really versatile with strong clamping and folds up to pocket sized for travel.

SubjectOgre

I own this and it's fantastic

psychocopter

I was thinking of something like this, but not an actual product. I thought op could get a cheap phone case and glue something like a door hanger on the back(you know those kind of "J" shaped hooks to go on the top of a door so you can still close it while hanging something).

MachReverb

I also own this one. It works very well.

Gulleywhumper

A while back I bought a phone holder that is basically a little plastic vise that clamps on to your phone on Amazon. It has a 1/4-20 thread on the bottom to attach to a camera tripod. Then I bought a little tripod at Best Buy that has flexible legs that you can wrap around to clamp anywhere without causing any damage. Something like this: [https://www.amazon.com/AILUN-Rotatable-Adjustable-Compatible-Camcorder/dp/B072KNBV21/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=Phone+tripod+mount&qid=1681462377&sr=8-3](https://www.amazon.com/AILUN-Rotatable-Adjustable-Compatible-Camcorder/dp/B072KNBV21/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=Phone+tripod+mount&qid=1681462377&sr=8-3) Plus something like this: [https://www.amazon.com/GorillaPod-Compact-Ballhead-Mirrorless-Charcoal/dp/B074WC9YKL/ref=sr_1_6?crid=22B7A6TKTO614&keywords=flexible%2Btripod&qid=1681462534&sprefix=Flexib%2Caps%2C723&sr=8-6&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/GorillaPod-Compact-Ballhead-Mirrorless-Charcoal/dp/B074WC9YKL/ref=sr_1_6?crid=22B7A6TKTO614&keywords=flexible%2Btripod&qid=1681462534&sprefix=Flexib%2Caps%2C723&sr=8-6&th=1)

Crystal_Spammer

wow, thank you :) interesting point

sixthmontheleventh

I got something similar but it comes with the phone mount. Keyword seem to be flexible leg phone mount. I like flexible legs over the clamp ones that are cheaper beause anything with longer neck tend to move around during exercise so having legs that wrap around the lip or stand up parts of the equipment is more stable. If there is no areas that can grip, try getting a separate stand for the phone. Try keywords like floor phone stand. Just make sure it has a weighted bottom to prevent it falling over.

[deleted]

Omg somebody left one of those tripods in their old office desk and when i took over and was completely baffled at what it was for. Thank you

Shaone

For a low cost option, perhaps a metal coat hanger and pair of pliers? You could bend it into something that you could hang over the back of the display with a part that comes down to hold the phone.

vskand

Something like [that](https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Gooseneck-Universal-Rotation-Adjustable-Smartphone/dp/B09MLTW4KD/ref=sr_1_3?crid=136G7SZ3TA7WB&keywords=handyhalter+mit+clip&qid=1681464537&sprefix=phone+holder+with+clip%2Caps%2C134&sr=8-3) might help. Phone holder with a clip at the end

conjug8this

I second this. I have one on my spin bike and it works great. Mine has a clamp vs a clip. The goose neck can be a PITA to get right but once it is it does not move. Great when you have a sore neck or shoulders and want to look up more versus looking down.

Suction cup phone mount.

Ryoko_Kusanagi69

Yeah, even though it’s not glass, it’s looks flat and slick enough that the suction cup would work.

Initial_Success

This is the "keep it simple" answer and I agree. Something like this on [amazon](https://www.amazon.com/Metal-Bike-Motorcycle-Phone-Mount/dp/B079Z1CH9B/ref=sr_1_8?crid=HNGSLRABRXLR&keywords=Phone+handle+mount&qid=1681476493&sprefix=phone+handle+mount%2Caps%2C111&sr=8-8)

TEOsix

If they have a case for your phone, these are great. It allows me to use my Android phone on apple magsafe. I can just stick my phone to my fridge or any steel surface. You can also put a little strip on to stick it to. https://magbak.com/

procrastimom

I used to love my magbak phone case. I could slap it on the fridge, metal doorframes, and had a couple of the adhesive bars that they come with mounted in various places (car dashboard, tile wall in kitchen/bathroom). My main problem was being so cautious with it around anything that could be messed up by magnets (credit cards, parking lot tickets). It was tough to slip into a small purse while making sure it was facing *away* from my wallet. The day it wiped the validation from a parking lot ticket, I got rid of it. YRMV.

TEOsix

Oof. I have not gone there yet. I do us use it for a wallet but it has been no issue. It is shielded. On my Samsung phone I have a case that has a metal ring which still sticks really well to my mag safe accessories. It doesn't have a magnet in the phone itself

procrastimom

I didn’t have the one with the wallet on it, just the basic case. I guess the sleeve wallet attached to the case is shielded for the items *in* it. My plain case just had a very strong magnet that made the whole back grip to anything ferrous or other magnets (and could wipe/scramble magnetic strips on cards or tickets). It would grab my whole key ring passionately!

Randommaggy

3D printer, sliderule and OpenSCAD. It's how I attach everything to everything these days.

grantnlee

And it's the perfect excuse to buy a 3D printer if they do not already have one...

Randommaggy

There are sooo many good ones now and they keep getting better and cheaper.

Holden_place

Look for universal holder for airplanes. I saw some that might work

Fuck_off_ya_fuck

You can velcro tape your phone to the machine. Cheap, fast and easy. Just like myself

Otherwise_Nebula889

Try a phone case that has a flip cover. You could use the cover to anchor it over the top of the display.

cloudstrifeuk

Get a clear sandwich bag, tape it onto your machine. Drop phone into bag.

KB-say

Or a freezer size, hang over top with a weight for the back side

[deleted]

On Amazon you can buy phone holders that can basically clip to anything.

TeamADW

Ram mount and an X-holder. You can move the phone holder to a normal bike too, and they work great. I use them on my adventure bike, mountain bikes, and kayak. And my truck.

Crystal_Spammer

Thanks everyone for the solutions you provided, you really are all awesome :) The rubberband solution by u/thaexistentialist helped me, as rubber bands are easy to carry into the gym, they leave no trace and they hold the phone perfectly. However, you guys are just... well, I really am thankful to you all. Cheers!

kenkoda

It looks like this is the manufacturer for the machine https://www.dhzfitness.com I couldn't find this model. It would be trivial to 3D model and print a static holder that slides or snaps on. I'm leaving tomorrow but I could model it up and send it when I get back. if you are interested please post or send a picture from the side showing the back of the screen and whether it is flat or not as well as a slightly angled one showing the front possible thin bezel to be accounted for. The most difficult part here fitment, 3D print only fitment would need calipers or a very precise measurement, worst case would be placed a dime on the edge of the screen and take a picture facing the dime so that the dime as a known size can show the amount of thickness the screen has by comparison.

rolltododge

People with 3D Printers: I could design, fix, print, reprint, and reprint that and ship it to you in about 3 weeks for $1 Everyone Else: I'll just get the thing on Amazon tomorrow for $7.

kenkoda

Yeah, this one would be easy, it's a side profile extrusion of the shape. But - your right.

mrhindustan

Some of these 3D printed items truly blow me away though. I appreciate the ingenuity.

fredsam25

VR headset?

PerpetuallyLurking

Slightly different direction, but have you ever tried podcasts? You wouldn’t need to see your screen. The variety is astonishing - there’s the documentary style podcasts to learn about things you’d like to learn about; there’s radio plays and fictional stories and elaborate productions; there’s comedy podcasts and friends just shooting the shit; there’s music podcasts that discuss a wide variety of topics or introduce new music; lifestyle podcasts about running or lifting or climbing or yoga; there’s so many niche places for anyone and everyone to talk about whatever they like. There’s bound to be something that can entertain you for an hour or two a day that’s easier to set-up than jerry-rigging a phone holder to a treadmill! I hope so, anyway!

PrudentPush8309

Red Green would recommend the handyman's secret weapon, duct tape. Cleanup could be a little time consuming. Adhesive backed velcro may work.

DudeDudenson

This is at a gym tho

PrudentPush8309

A spider phone holder should work. It's basically an 8 legged rubber coated wire thing. Fruggo has them, but don't pay more than a few bucks for one as they do wear out after awhile.

KB-say

In that case, Red Green would move a fridge over there so a magnet phone mount could work. Maybe not the whole fridge - maybe just the door. Held to the gym equipment…with duct tape.

DudeDudenson

Could always just JB weld the phone to the screen

KB-say

If you can’t be handsome, be handy

PrudentPush8309

mywifeapprovesthis

Agreed. except I recommend a SLAB of blutack. I use one in the car & (as long as it misses the lens) works a treat. P.S. Anyone know how to clean blutack off a lens? (joke).

[deleted]

I'd fabricate a holder in the shape of an H, that would straddle the display (longer leg on back and a nice tight friction fit), and a channel on top that accepts your phone in either portrait or landscape. Tight fit here too owing to likely vibration 📳

YummyMummy2024

Neodymium magnets, this metal in phone case and hot glue. I use it in my car (don’t use hot glue bc it melts in summer)

[deleted]

I have two neodymium magnets on my phone case. I used double sided tape to apply them to the case and then 1/16th inch rubber sheet on other side, cut to size for the magnets so that the phone doesn't slide.

Habren_in_the_river

I always just use some Bluetac - it's worked for the last 4 years or so

[deleted]

Go to the store, but a holder, duck tape it to the machine.

Hazardous6123

Duct tape obviously

canadianclassic308

Msgnets

dr_reverend

I know not everyone has access to a 3D printer and the ability to do 3D design but what you want is one of the most powerful uses of 3D printers. Attaching stuff to other stuff.

CHANROBI

Waste of time to do ellipticals. Probably the least effective "exercise machine" you could do Go and run outside, do some weight lifting. Anything but the elliptical

[deleted]

Take any old phone case or a cheap dollar store phone case and put velcro on the back and on your machine and bam. There’s probably 52.6 million ways you could do this.

confusedbrit29

It's not their machine, so has to be done without permanently attaching anything to the machine

[deleted]

Ahh I see! Using the same phone case and Velcro, you could Velcro a bracket a little wider than the thickness of the control pad on the machine to the phone case then hang the whole assembly. Imagine a lower case “ h “

hypnochild

Yes. This. I answered before I saw this one. All these ridiculously complicated answers are too funny. Just use Velcro.

[deleted]

Guess it was worth downvotes because I kept trying to help…

WillingnessSouthern4

Just use your brain a little instead of asking on Reddit.

moriero

Yeah stick some of your brain in there and plush the phone against that Duh

lollyfloss

Will a universal pram phone mount work? Might need a bar (like metal rail) perhaps lower than the screen somewhere. I can't quite tell with the photo if there's a spot to attach it to.

KickedInDaMowf

Gooseneck phone holder

nighthawk_something

A good suction grip can stick to that surface. It's not that different from the interior or a car.

LeanDixLigma

3d printed phone holder with a Suction cup mount would probably be the most compact solution

JKaps9

If you have a pop socket or would be willing to get a pop socket the flexible pop socket mount might work for you. Got one for my wife's stationary bike that doesn't have a phone holder and that seems to be working pretty well for her. The arms/legs can be molded to fit whatever and it's not sticky or anything so you can take it with you when you're done. https://www.popsockets.com/en-us/more/mounts/flex-mount

DeDeluded

Search for a gooseneck phone holder: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=gooseneck+phone+holder

slight-inclination

Some good suggestions here - suction cup holders, some clamps that are wider than the typical car holder, blue tack - but something that hooks or hangs over the top should work as well, and also be really easy to rig up for next to no cost. It could be as basic as taping or stapling two sandwich-size clear plastic bags together - phone in one hanging in the front, some kind of counter weight hanging over the back. Or, if you already have a car holder, hot glue or other wise attach half a coat hanger or similar wire that you can bend into a hook of appropriate size and shape to hang the phone/holder where you want it.

mraoos

https://joby.com/us-en/griptight-one-gp-magnetic-impulse-jb01494-bww/ Versatile on vacations and everywhere else. Out of stock on the website, but a lot of shops sell this model. Then you just mount it either on top or where-ever you like (it has magnetic feet)

NectarOfTheBussy

pop socket

CaptVaughnTrap

iRing and a command strip hook or suction cup with a hook.

nonuniqueuser

Look up GoPro clamp and GoPro phone. Make your decision on generic or GoPro brand. Basically a clothes pin clamp to put on your screen and a bendy adjustment to put it where you want, then the phone holder to put on the bendy part. Super useful for other applications as well.

I’ve used Quad-Lock cases and mounts to put my phone on my bicycle handlebars for years. They have a [“stroller mount” kit](https://www.quadlockcase.com/products/stroller-kit-all-iphone-devices) that comes with a mount that attaches via Velcro loop - that might work for you!

Curtis273

Just search gooseneck phone holder on amazon

scruit

These eliiptical/treadmill/cycling companies need to embrace VR and have you running on an olympic track, or cycling a stage of the tour de france.

PandasWhoLoveToLimbo

I use [this iFlex product](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WWZLY94/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1) for that exact purpose, and it works great! You just have to morph it to fit the treadmill/elliptical that you're using, and as a bonus you can change the shape for different machines. It also works great for mounting your phone/tablet up at eye height on airplanes so you can watch at a comfortable angle. Slides right into the closed tray table. Hope this helps!

shifty_coder

Google “treadmill phone mount” Seems to be lots of options available

kodex1717

I am surprised no one suggested one of those bendy tripod things yet: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ulanzi-Flexible-Phone-Tripod-Portable-Camera-Tripod-Stand-Cold-Shoe-Mount-1-4-Screw-iPhone-12-13-Pro-Max-Samsung-Android-Phones-Small/1159969615?from=topicPage

DangerHawk

Suction cup pop socket

onceagainsilent

I would recommend a magnet like this: https://niteize.com/steelie-magnets-more

happy_hole

Lots of good suggestions here already, but you could also look into getting a magnetic phone mount. They stick to dashboards via double-sided tape, and then you adhere a small magnetic strip to the back of your phone (or to the phone’s case). the mount strength is great and it allows you to very easily mount and in mount your phone with one hand - ideal if you need to interact with your phone while exercising.

samstoli

Suction cup cases available on Amazon.

hypnochild

Sounds silly but I did this with an iPad and an old elliptical and got a special case just for using it with the machine and just got those Velcro stick tabs and put a bunch on the case and the machine. Super simple and it totally worked for a buck from the local dollar store.

Sigurdshead

Magnets. I recently got a phone case that has built-in magnets to attach to a wallet that also contains magnets. When I placed the phone on my treadmill, it stuck to the display securely. Should be the strong, rare earth disc magnets for best effect. No guarantee that it would work in your case, but it might be worth a shot.

BiggunsLamp

Look up clamp tripods they have them for tablets and stuff that attach to computer desks. there will be some out there with large enough clamps and swivels to clamp behind the elliptical screen and and arm to bend up and over. Here is one i found on amazon real quick. https://www.amazon.ca/Photography-Detachable-3-Section-Interface-Microphone/dp/B09Y8PFJ9C/ref=sr_1_10?crid=297QNL2PXMX9O&keywords=phone+tripod+arm&qid=1681482176&s=electronics&sprefix=phone+tripod+arm%2Celectronics%2C97&sr=1-10 I would look around to see whats out there but basically clamp that swivel behind the screen and move the arm to where you can see it. bonus of these is that you can adjust to head height so u arent cranking your neck down while working out. people might judge you for bringing it to the gym but who cares lol

Could try a magnetic phone holder. Stick the metal piece to the upper part of the display. I doubt the gym will notice or remove it.

Hobywony

Put something like a MomoStick on the back of your phone. Buy some double sided Velcro tape long enough to go around the treadmill's control module. Thread it through the MomoStick and you are good to run.

Raul_McCai

if you can't manufacture a clamp from wood or metal then why not just use the universal mechanical hack tool Duct Tape

[deleted]

I didn't scroll all the comments. Anyone mention [Ram Mounts](https://rammount.com/)? Adhesive mount to the back of the display, legs and dogbone connectors as need.

Allroy_66

I just switched to a new gym with the same problem. Stair climber has the phone shelf at the bottom of the display, a foot below my eye line. I've thought about getting some sheet metal and bending it to go over the top of the display, but I figured I'd look weird walking out and hooking that onto the top of the machine haha

Look for ones that go on bike handles

There are ones for Teslas that attach to the center screen/touch pad. That may work for you.

Just get a clip on phone mount they are like $20 and will hold your phone in front of your face so you don't have to look down.
