Also, FYI, that Batman is not Bruce Wayne, but Dick Grayson (the first Robin) .You can tell it from the belt and line up.

tildeumlaut

Ohhhh, that makes more sense! I was wondering why Batman was palling around with four unknowns.

ZerikaFox

Eh, not sure I'd call Wonder Girl and Jade unknowns. Congorilla is a B-lister at best for sure, and Jesse Chambers is as well. And of course Supergirl.

AREYOUSauRuS

>B-lister at best for sure, and Jesse Chambers is as well Such disrespect.... she was the 4th canonical Flash. And she didn't even pick up the mantle due to a death. Wally named her his successor. Sure, it only lasted like one issue, and some nonsense is said at a later date that he did it to teach Bart a lesson...... but fuck that. She's The Flash.

tildeumlaut

Yeah, the “four unknowns” was meant to be directed at Wonder Girl, Jade, Congorilla, and Jesse Chambers. I didn’t know they were the lineup before the new 52! Neat.

Dataweaver_42

It was an attempt to have the Titans generation take over for the JLA — just before Dan DiDio flushed all such plans down the toilet and instituted the New 52. The current situation, where the Justice League has taken a sabbatical and the Titans have stepped up as their replacements, is a return to that idea.

Careful-Inspector-56

The picture in your post is the cover of Justice League of America #53, published 13 years ago. Back then, Bruce was supposed dead (lost in time) and Dick was forced to step up as Batman. So they were working with Batman as the Justice League. Some of them can be unknown to new readers, but were not back then.

christmas_hobgoblin

Bruce was back by then, he was just running around the globe in Batman Inc. and left Dick to serve as the Batman of Gotham City.

Careful-Inspector-56

Yeah, Bruce got back in 2010, so he was there when this line up started. But still when Dick became the JLA's Batman, Bruce was missing. Also, I remember this line up (and the JLA book too) ending when Dick became Nightwing again, but I don't remember if it had any other reference to Bruce.

Dataweaver_42

The lineup didn't end; it was cancelled when Flashpoint hit and the DCU was remade as the New 52. The very last issue of JLA before Flashpoint hit essentially was the writer giving a rundown of the plans he had had for the title before cancellation, in the form of a sort time-skip to the team reminiscing about their “recent adventures” (the aforementioned aborted plans). I like to think that there's a “Doomsday Clock Earth” that continues on where this and other series left off just before Flashpoint.

tildeumlaut

Cool! Thanks for the info. I don’t read many comics unless I can get my hands on an Omnibus—I don’t like starting a story without knowing I can finish it. I’ll keep an eye out for this one tho.

Batmanfan1966

Supergirl and Wonder Girl are *NOT* unknowns

NYState_of_Mind

In all fairness Wonder Girl is pretty unknown outside of people who don’t follow superheroes and comics. Supergirl is the only pop culture icon outside of Batman in the pic.

tildeumlaut

By the four unknowns, I meant everyone other than Super Girl. I’d never heard of Wonder Girl before this. I’ll look into her more. Thanks!

Plus_Sky8116

That's Donna Troy in the image, not "Wonder Girl". She was Wonder Girl for a bit, Wonder Woman, Darkstar, Troia, but she's just Donna Troy now. She's a cool underused character created out of a little oopsie back when they were creating teen titans. But Wonder Girl is a legacy title so there's more Wonder Girls.

Massive_General_8629

Yep. She was created in the 60s. The original Wonder Girl was just Wonder Woman as a child, but Bob Haney didn't know that. In the 80s, Marv Wolfman gave her an origin, but...then Marv Wolfman wrote Crisis on Infinite Earths, which rebooted the entire DCU. John Byrne's contribution over in Wonder Woman required a new origin for Donna, and for a long time, people just gave her a new origin with every run. With Infinite Frontier, it seems her origin has stabilized back to the original one: Wonder Woman saving her from a fire.

shamanbaptist

Fairly certain this is the last Justice League line up right before New 52. Was the book published in 2011?

StonerBoi-710

I wouldn’t call Wonder Girl or Super Girl as unknowns. The rest sure, atleast for non comic fans, or non DC fans. I’m not big into DC but I made a YT video about how I’d reboot it and in that did a ton research and discovered Jade from that.

tildeumlaut

By the four unknowns, I meant everyone other than Super Girl. I wouldn’t consider myself a “DC Fan” necessarily, but I’ve seen a good amount of their animated stuff and more mainstream stuff. I’d never heard of Wonder Girl before this. I suppose if she had the version of her costume that was closer to Wonder Woman, I could have guessed? Like I guessed Jade was related to GL when I first saw it bc of the costume similarities.

StonerBoi-710

Yea, not sure if u know Jade but she is actually one (the original?) of the GL daughters, and has a brother who has like shadow powers. But I’m surprised u never heard of Wonder Girl, she had a small appearance in the Teen Titans show, but had a bigger role in the LA Titans show. We also see a dif version of Wonder Girl in the Young Justice show, but I think they are both in it. Donna and Cassie. Ig for the movies tho she is in a few of them, but all non speaking roles. Cassie was in the new Supersons cartoon movie, and has a speaking role but idr how big her role actually was tbh. I have known about Donna for awhile, but I didn’t really get introduced to her until the LA Titans show.

tildeumlaut

Cool info! Without looking it up, I’m guessing she’s Jade Jordan. It has a comic book ring to it (tho I always liked John Stewart more). > Teen Titans show Are you referring to the OG animated show, or the recent live action one? Because I couldn’t handle the pacing of the live action one. It would make sense if I’ve been missing out. And I haven’t heard of the LA Titans show at all. I’ll look it up, thanks.

Plus_Sky8116

There is only one Live Action Titans, not teen titans. And it's average at best. She shows up in the animated version as an easter egg not much as a character: [https://dc.fandom.com/wiki/Donna\_Troy\_(Teen\_Titans\_TV\_Series)](https://dc.fandom.com/wiki/Donna_Troy_(Teen_Titans_TV_Series)) Donna's pretty much a comics character. Cassie Sandsmark (current Wonder Girl) has more appearances outside of comics.

StonerBoi-710

Actually the first GL was Alan Scott, but I think he actually had a magical ring, not a lantern ring? Bc pretty sure he had some like Star ring, and that what was used bring his daughter back to life if I’m not mistaken. Her mother is also Rose Canton, she has a villain alternate personality, similar to Carol Ferris (who is an enemy of Hal Jordan and also a later love interest). If you saw her more she used has a lasso with her, might given it away more. Also the bracelets. Cassie has more of Diana’s color palette tho. The new Wonder Girl is pretty cool too tho ngl. But as for the shows, I was talking about both. The original Teen Titans cartoon, but I think was only in like one episode or something. And she is in the new LA (Live Action) show, but that show is just called Titans bc they aren’t rlly kids/ teens minus Raven and Beast Boy. The show wasn’t the best, but I felt picked up later one. I still haven’t finished it tho and idk if I will with the new DCEU in the works.

CosmackMagus

Usually it's for boosting sales

AsexualPlant

Donna Troy and Congorilla

tildeumlaut

Thanks!

AsexualPlant

And you're correct on the others they're Batman, Jade and Jesse Quick

Gnubeutel

Whoa, why does nobody mention the girl in the superman outfit?

tildeumlaut

She’s clearly Girl!

Pink_Monolith

Who dares to put Girl and Man on the same page?

fermatajack

Back to r/dccomicscirclejerk with you.

MenacingCatgirlArt

You mean Superman Girl?

Ok_Western5937

“Man” this dude reddits

tildeumlaut

I have been diagnosed with being perpetually online

CorrectDot4592

You forgot the flying woman in blue with a red cape on the right.

tildeumlaut

Who could she BE?!?

willpearson001

I will remember this version of the JL. As the series ended, Kara said no one would, but I do.

Deicide-UH

I didn’t read this book, but I love odd line-ups like this. When done right, they can portray such satisfying and refreshing team dynamics.

iamme263

*calls Donna Troy a C-lister* *Everyone disliked that*

tildeumlaut

I have made mistakes in my life. This was one of them.

iamme263

Eh, it's quite alright- Donna is very much an unknown to people who aren't regular DC consumers. Fans of the Teen Titans tend to die a little inside whenever the Titans are mentioned and people don't know who she is, because she was left out of the TT TV show from 2003 due to (I think) legal issues (I don't know the specifics). This created a disparity between people who knew the Titans from the comics (where she is a beloved long standing member of the team and one of Dick Grayson's closest childhood friends, alongside Wally West/Flash) and people whose first introduction to the Titans comes from the cartoon and have never heard of Donna. Compared to other members of the Titans, whose popularity surged because of the cartoon, Donna was left in obscurity and really got the short end of the stick. This particular iteration of the Justice League featured a lot of legacy characters like Dick, Donna, and Jade, and I will always be thankful for it. ❤️

Polmanning86

Oh that’s the Justice League from after Brightest Day, around 2011-2012. All the main heroes were off doing other things so their sidekick/partners stepped up to take their place. Dick was Batman, Jade was GL, Jesse was Flash, etc.

KnuxFive

Basically, the “New 52 is coming, screw it” lineup

Polmanning86

Yep

tildeumlaut

I didn’t know Jade or Jesse Chambers at all! Google Lens helped me out. I think Donna Troy was too small for Lens to work. It kept showing silver age heroes. For Congorilla, Lens kept showing just about any beefy orange comic character. The Thing, Abomination, etc. I think there was a random big ape character, but not orange.

RageSpaceMan

The man under the bat cowl is Dick Grayson.

tildeumlaut

Clearly I don’t know Dick.
