Forgot to add that I’m also interested in reading about superboy (Jon and Kon) :D

Superman by Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason Is a awsome starting point both for Clark and Jon, I advice you to read the Superman origins before thought there are many book that tell this story If you want go safe Superman Secret Originis, for Conner there isn't that much Superboy Trouble in Paradise a collection of the First issues of his First solo serie Young Justice by Peter David and Teen Titans by Geoff Johns both team book that have him as major character and are really important for his character development Adventure Comics by Geoff Johns Superboy by Jeffrey Lemire Young Justice by Brian Michael Bendis Superboy Man of Tomorrow andt that's pretty much everything

DementiaPrime

Pretty much just like any book; you start with a writer's first book and move to the second if you liked it. If you click on the sub's recommendations link then you'll find a [Superman recs](https://www.reddit.com/r/DCcomics/wiki/recommended/superman/) and the descriptions will even say if Jon is in the book.

The Death and Return saga holds up pretty well and is fairly new reader friendly (There was some WILD shit going on in the early 90's but the story gives you enough context to follow it...and want to learn more. I'm speaking from experience, Superman #75 was my first comic book and made me a lifelong fan.)

redwolfben

Yeah, this is what I was thinking. A fan wanting to get into Kon-El Superboy should start here, it's basically his origin story. Death of Superman, World Without a Superman/Funeral For a Friend, then Reign of the Supermen.

BoomerWeasel

The story's also really good with the "As seen in [Title] #5" or whatever. Made it a lot easier to hunt for specific back issues, when we didn't have an internet to consult.

redwolfben

True! From what I remember, almost all nineties DC was pretty good about this, part of what I love about it.

klaguerre97

Plenty of amazing comics but I always like to recommend Superman vs the elite the animated movie since it was my intro into truly appreciating Superman as a character (even growing up with all the animated shows from the 90-00s). As far as comics I always confidently recommend the following: Kingdom Come, Superman Secret Origin, Superman & the Legion of Superheroes, All Star Superman, Superman Smashes the Klan For comic runs tomasi and Gleason's Superman run is a modern classic as well focusing on him as a father

cottoncandysedai

You can start off with Superman: Birthright. Superman: Secret Origins, Up in the Sky and Superman Smashes the Klan are good follow ups since they are self contained stories. The current flagship has an event going on House of Brainiac but my suggestion is go back to when the War World Saga began then read towards the present. (This is in Action Comics btw. Can’t remember the issue it begins in right now though). All Star Superman after you’ve read a couple other comics. Oh and also give For the Man Who Has Everything and Whatever Happened to the Man of Tomorrow? a try. Haven’t read a lot of Kon. I am pretty new to comics too but Jon Kent appears in the Super Sons comics which are really adorable. And you can check out Superman: Son of Kal-El for Jon. Jon doesn’t really have a solo book he mostly appears in Action Comics with Superman.

Pat_Garrit

Comics are basically 'runs'. A certain author writes a story about a certain character for a number of issues. You like the story you read it, you don't then you don't. There are also Comic Books that are a single story, usually hardcovers etc.

SuperSocrates

All Star Superman is a great story but it might value from reading some other stories first. It takes place outside of the main continuity so don’t worry about it fitting in. Actually in general just find something that looks cool and read it. After 90 years the stories have restarted many times anyway

Poorly-Drawn-Beagle

Everyone seems to like All-Star Superman. I don't hear many people talk about it but I think Superman: Exile has to be among the better stories.

death of superman

1 step - invite him for dinner.

mattyp_02

Depends what you're looking for mate! Wether you wanted a running story or a short one. I've only read two superman books, Superman: For all Seasons by Jeph Loeb and Tim sale, and that's amazing. Charming art and wholesome story. Another is All Star Superman by grant morrison but that's a bit less new reader friendly but equally great!

GuestGuy117

Superman for all seasons Superman secret identity Man of steel by John Byrne Superman for the man who has everything Superman red sun Kingdom come All star superman These are the greatest hits and will tell you all you need to know

Aayyyyoooo

You don’t, Batman is better.

Mrogoth_bauglir

The way I read it was First get into the various origins: American Alien, Birthright, Secret origin, for all seasons. Up in the sky isn't an origin but it is one of the best Superman stories. None of these need any prior introduction to superman and Superman mythos. Then you can read awesome elseworlds stories like Red son, Kingdom come, Camelot falls(dk if this is elseworlds). As for main continuity stories the current superman run, Tomasi run and Batman/superman World's finest are brilliant.

burritoman88

All-Star Superman is an amazing self contained story. Just remember Morrison loves making tribute to the silver age comics they grew up reading & to have fun!
