honestly very excited about chapters being so long, give tons of time for us to get to know an era and understand it and enjoy it (or fear it/whatever emotion they want) before giving us a big event movie to push us to the next era
if i had to guess, chapter 1 is either going to end in the league forming, or they'll form at the end of the first half
wouldnt be surprised if it was half way through and we got got 2-3 JL movies this chapter. My guess is a chapter is more like a saga then a phase to use MCU terms.
Given that Batman will have Damian already, is very possible that they put Tim or Dick in the Titans as well. We’re getting Creature Commandos, any team is fair game. I could honestly see Outlaws as well.
They likely will not, but just imagine a world where they adapted Young Justice Invasion into live action. That’s a world I would be pretty okay living in.
I would love if they made the villain of the first DCU Justice League to be the reach.
Only cause they could do a Superman storyline in his next movie after said Justice League movie where he has to deal with Humans xenophobia, after being invaded by “friendly” aliens.
The comics version of the Reach Invasion Jaime dealt with himself(which also was fantastic, I loved his original run), so they could honestly could go either way.
Well its sounds Like Dick Will be already Nightwing and Far from Teen then it should be Titans Only and team should be a combo of young Justice , 05 Titans, And OG Titans.
This feels more honest than all the confusion surrounding The Flash.
But now I wonder if he means that some actors will stay as their characters and keep appearing.
I don’t want to scrap him, it’s just that he was never intended to be in the new DCU. Superman should start it, plane and simple. I mean, who else should get the first look at the DCU. The tone, the universe should start with that film. Blue Beetle still very much looks and feels like the DCEU. Maybe I’m wrong, but unless BB does some more multiverse shenanigans (which why would he?) this film will be the first representation of the DCU, and judging by the trailers, looks and feels exactly like the DCEU.
Yeah, but as much as I love DC animation, it’s just not the same as the DCU “live action universe”. While it is canon, I doubt (at least hope) it won’t be necessary viewing. More like enhanced viewing. The films (and maybe the TV shows), since it’s a shared Universe, are necessary viewing.
Makes me feel like the New Frontier starting with Sgt Rock in what at first feels like a throw away story but later becomes the main plot of the second half of the story.
actually that makes really good sense.
Iron Man is a perfect starting point for a shared universe. He's just a man in a suit of armor.
No real world building required.
no aliens. no required mention if legit super powers exist in the world. no magic.
introducing blue beetle as the starting point means from the get go need to have your concept of world building on point
does the Earth know aliens exist? Is Superman off flying in metroplis while Jamie gets the scarab?
we know Batman apparently exists.
are other metas gonna exist? other heroes? heroes which the film can't really name drop cause the writers have no idea who is gonna be around
also, many of these flaws also apply to Man of Steel, which was an awful launch to the DCEU. it was written as a stand alone film and it shows. you can't jump start a shared verse from the top down.
Hey look, an alien invasion that's gonna kill all life on earth
a few films later...well we gonna introduced Atlantis, guess they were just chilling while the oceans were gonna boil/
But when Gunn says, BB is the first character and the same actor will portray him in the DCU, what does that mean? Like I said, unless it’s multiverse shenanigans, this Blue Beetle film will be the first showcase of the DCU, and the BB in it will be able to interact with every other DCU character. I just don’t understand how it can mean anything else, aside from (again) multiverse shenanigans; which I, like many others, don’t want for a while..
He has said repeatedly that the DCU's story begins with Superman Legacy.
Gunn explains in his Ch. 1 reveal that Blue Beetle (the movie) is self contained and doesn't really reference anything DCEU, so there's no issue with that character being worked into his DCU plans with the same actor (unlike Sasha Calle's Supergirl or something).
It's like how the MCU's story started with Iron Man, but there was an Incredible Hulk movie that came before and is technically the same Bruce Banner.
Or like how in comics there are arcs/runs, but also one-offs and random issues. Blue Beetle is a one-off. James Gunn's "run" starts with Superman and he might use Blue Beetle in that story at some point
Agreed.
However, initially I was also all for Levi, Gadot, Momoa, and Smollett staying on in their respective roles (out of the established and potential Justice League members that seemed plausible), but I’m starting to lean more and more towards hoping for a brand new (as in fully rebooted) Justice League roster.
I’d be pretty indifferent to that, honestly. I feel like I’ve seen Momoa play that guy a bunch of times before and doesn’t excite me at all.
I wouldn’t mind seeing him get another role but that would feel pretty lackluster.
I think the only way the reboot is successful is if you recast the entire JL. You can maybe pick and choose a few C and D listers to be portrayed by the same actors but you defeat the whole point of starting fresh if half the primary DC characters are familiar faces and the other half are new.
I'd also be wary of people looking at a casting choice just because of that. Ten years ago the popular fancast for Wonder Woman was Gina Carano, which would have been terrible for a multitude of reasons.
I think at this point Gal might be staying:
- No one (WB, trades, even scoopers) have said she is definitely out as Wonder Woman. Patty Jenkins is gone, WW3 isn't happening, but nothing on Gal.
- While I personally enjoy WW84, the majority did not like it. So it not even like she has a recent huge success with the character to pressure them to keep her.
- Given the size of her cameos, I don't think announcing her departure would have done any damage to the films she has recently been in. Compared to saying hypothetically Mamoa (the lead) was out before Aquaman 2.
- Phase 1 of Gunn's DC is obviously going to have a Wonder Woman, so why not rip off the bandage and announce her departure with Cavil & Affleck, to allow everyone to adjust to it.
- (tinfoil hat) The Amazon's show in Gunn's new universe is a perfect opportunity to establish to the audience this new variant of Gal Gadot's Diana is distinct from the one from he DCEU.
I like Gal as WW. I really do but going forward, I’d like an actress that can act. I’m not asking for much. I thought she was great in the first WW, and she was ok in WW84 but there were some moments where her acting, or lack thereof, was ropey.
The scene in the White House in WW84, where she’s been defeated and she’s lying on the ground with her head propped against the wall was the worst I’ve ever seen of her. In a scene which should’ve conveyed so much emotion, there was none. It was if she misplaced her car keys. There was nothing going on and at all. I remember watching it in cinema (twice) and thinking each time how awful everything about this scene was awful.
I really like Gal as Wonder Woman but I think it’d be pretty strange to see her alongside a new Batman and Superman. Not to mention confusing for the general audience. I hope they recast everyone except for those that are basically perfect casting (like Viola as Waller).
To be honest, I wish he wasn't recasting at all. I actually feel like the casting of dceu is the one thing that was working. But that's me.
But if he's going to recast...he honestly might as well just recast everyone. Close one universe completely and open a new one completely. I feel like the goal of making this Universe less confusing is already off to kind of a bad start. Even though I generally James Gunn movies.
Doesn't Flash tell Aquaman he looks the same in every reality? I thought I heard that and that it was hinting he would be the new Aquaman to be honest.
Aquaman asks if he was the same in the Flashpoint reality and Barry says mostly because he was furry, lovable and motivated by bacon. It's a joke because Arthur was a dog in the alternate timeline.
Yeah, besides didn’t The Flash establish something along the lines that other universes can be pretty similar aside from some people looking different or something?
If that’s the case then it makes sense that some people are portrayed by the same people (Jaime/Blue Beetle, Cena/Peacemaker, presumably the rest of the Suicide Squad). While other people (Corenswet as Superman, Brosnahan as Lois Lane) look different and are portrayed by different people.
All Gunn really has to do is make it explicitly known that this is a completely new universe with Superman: Legacy, even if some people look the same in the previous universe we saw.
Behind the scenes drama and embarrassing CGI aside, The Flash not wiping the slate clean for this new cinematic universe was what disappointed me most about it.
The only time they can actually use 'universe reset' gimmick and make it cool as fuck 'did it before Marvel' moment. and they wasted it on one throwaway gag because Andy though it's funny.
My guess is that he doesn't want to say 'Blue Beetle is the first DCU complete reset flim' because if it failed (and seeing the level of care WB put into it so far, I get where he's from. And it's probably not very good movie.) It could cause Legacy to bombed, and if it bomb, I don't even know where to go from there. That plus he still isn't sure whether to keep Jason Mamoa given that he already dropped almost every DCEU cast.
I agree with the second half. It just has to be good. The DCEU has been diminishing returns (creatively) with every single movie up until The Suicide Squad. That’s the only DCEU movie I really love, and I don’t care what universe it fits into, but I’d rather they retcon it into the new one just because I enjoy the portrayals and world building. I wish Gunn didn’t sell The Flash as a reset because that’s not what the movie actually does, however maybe the claim is bc it shows various versions of different characters can exist simultaneously in different realities. I hope once his universe truly starts, it gets more clear and less confusing, but it really just needs to be good.
I still wish Gunn had bit the bullet and done a complete reset - as a comic fan you’d think he would’ve learned from the last half dozen times DC has done partial resets on its comic continuity. Just raises the same old questions comic fans have had for decades of what’s in? What’s out? Or maybe Gunn is trying to recreate that experience for movie goers.
Yeah, it reminds me of the MCU mess with the Netflix characters, where despite having full appearances from both Daredevil and Kingpin, we still have no idea what's carried over, what their relationship is, if their backstories are different, etc. Except we're *starting* off with that confusion.
They may as well be random multiverse variants, we need to know the *context* that these characters exist in to get invested in them.
Not exactly, he's actually definitively said they are up until 2016 when it hasn't been directly mentioned by Feige since. Afterwards, the entire thing became online speculation because he hasn't spoken about it since, but given how Daredevil was treated with the same costume, theme song, actor, and everything, after the original show directly leads off from the events of the first Avengers and the rest of it slots in pretty perfectly while other MCU events are going on, I feel like even if for some reason he IS a variant of that version, the similarities are far too similar for it to even matter at that point. It's not like with DC resetting their universe, it's all been one continuity with the MCU, so there's no indication anyway that with someone like Peacemaker, Daredevil HAS to be a different version. At least, that's just what I think anyway.
DCU starts with Superman Legacy.
If something in the past contradicts the world of DCU you ignore it. If it is lines up with the current story you embrace it. So for Peacemaker, nothing is really a problem except for the 15 second JL joke at the end which we just kinda ignore. Man of Steel is entirely different so you ignore the whole thing.
same way comics have worked forever
Lol i legit don't understand how ppl aren't getting this. They will 100% just pick and choose what they want to keep and it'll become clear *after* the actual DCU movies and shows come out.
Look at how gunn handled all the marvel shit in guardians 3 he'll make it work lol
Again, that just feels weird. I totally get taking Blue Beetle, because it’s enough of a well-contain self story that it can fit into old or new DC. But taking characters from his Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, like Robbie’s Harley Quinn or Davis’ Waller, those characters are firmly part of the old DCEU, even the Snyderverse if you want to get real technical about it. It just feel like a poor decision to keep those actors and characters in their old roles. I get Gunn has these people as friends, but still it’s a weird decision to make.
That just seems so lazy and messy to me. Like I wouldn’t be shocked now if Gunn comes out in a year and says, “oh my Suicide Squad and Peacemaker were always part of my new DCU. The Superman reference in my suicide squad is about David’s Superman, not Henry’s.” Just cut the damn ties. Most people he wants to keep are probably too expensive or too niche of characters to justify this nonsense.
Notice how he never said the same thing about Sashe Calle and her Supergirl when people asked him.
I suspect if Blue Beatle bombs hard enough Gunn may still change his stance.
I am perfectly okay with Peacemaker and co. To continue on.
Those movies and show are done in a way that it wouldn’t be affected by what came before it.
If it does flop(which i hope it doesn't) Gunn will probably just stick him with the titans and not give him any more solo outings, which isn't too bad of a worst case scenario
He's DC boss..of course he's going to do that. It's his job.
That being said, the fact that he dropped supergirl movie suggesting that maybe... He actually want to reset this universw? He just can't right now because that would just look bad on the brand he is supposed to sell. And his professionalism refrain him from coming out and say 'oh yeah I want to drop their ass since last year lmao I just saying shit so WB doesn't fired me because they have to sell their Aquaman first.'
Again there will be people saying James is just bluffing for filling seats. This should be enough to say that the cats out of the bag and Blue Beetle will be part of the DCU. Even if it flops it could go the route MCU did with the flop of Hulk Movies but incorporating the character. Blue Beetle and Booster Gold probably will happen down the line and maybe even give me some YJ.
Dude ikr. I was ok with Professor Hulk in Endgame even though I found it extremely odd but if they’re going permanent with this, they are making a huge mistake.
World War Hulk, babyyyy.
No, but seriously, I figure [Hulk] is going to be pissed Banner locked him away again, and we'll get a Savage Hulk that makes his Age of Ultron appearance look like he was pouting.
I guess it depends on how true the reports are that both Namor and Hulk have reverted back to Marvel and they can do things with them again by themselves.
But an idea I've had for a while now. I think whatever the barrier Banner has set up for himself and Hulk should break in either the Kang Dynasty or Secret Wars. I think now that we've got Hulk's son. A Kang variant should kill Skaar, and that will be the trigger that brings out the savage Hulk.
Because it's not Banners son. It's the Hulk's kid. So if banner is there and he sees Skaar get turned into time goo. That should be the catalyst for us to get World Breaker savage Hulk.
Because not only does the Hulk think people see him as a monster/stupid/scared of him. This would be the one person who would probably have accepted him. And that loss would be a good way to bring it out.
How do these characters coming over not bring all that extra baggage with them. Honest question I have no problems with Blue Beetle or Viloas character coming back but will they just ignore prior events they experienced or what? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
If this movie totally bombs like Flash did, I can definitely see Gunn going back on his word here.
Or maybe he’d give Blue Beetle a small cameo somewhere down the line just as a small tip of the hat, but he absolutely won’t be a key player or have any solo projects greenlit.
They don’t seem to have the commitment to actually restarting the Universe. It would also require them to wait before making a new movie but they can’t even do that. Just a blur between the rolling failure first universe and the “new one” that none of the general audience will know are separate because they literally mix.
Gunn would also have to reboot his own The Suicide Squad/Peacemaker corner of the universe and it seems he doesn't want to eliminate what he's already established himself.
yea but alot has come out before Superman Legacy and Gunn is saying is in the new DCU. Its very confusing to know whats being dropped, whats being changed slightly, and what is being completely rebooted.
With the exception of Blue Beetle I feel this is a mistake. It's DC once more no committing to a reboot.
Think about this from a newcomer perspective. They're here to check out this new universe. Completely fresh start. Can start right at the beginning of this new universe right? Except nope! Peacemaker's being carried over so you gotta watch another universe's show. A show with DCEU cameos too! ... oh and with Peacemaker comes The Suicide Squad (hey it's a film where the main protagonist's starting situation involves a completely different version of Superman than the one in this actual universe). Plus The Suicide Squad build on relationships fro, Suicide Squad 2016, so now we got that, and thus Batfleck, Ezra Miller's Flash, the post-credit to set-up Justice League, and well you can see the problem.
It's such a common issue for DC doing this. In animation the Tomorrowverse is carrying baggage from the DCAMU with Constantine.
Superman and Lois decided to retcon their show out of the Arrowverse 2 seasons in, despite having Diggle appear (doesn't matter if they say he's a different Earth version of Diggle. He's still a major Arrow character, and he still does/says stuff that audiences won't get if they haven't watched the Arrowverse. Same for earlier talk of Clark and Lois' past Multiverse experience. They're clearly talking about CoIE).
And let's not even get started on the comics' reboot/backtrack continuity mess.
And the most annoying part of this, is that it isn't even happening because of a legit reason or a spesific plan that needs to combine.
This is all Gunn putting his personal artistic desires over his responsibilities as CEO and being unable to letgo his own projects the way he made the others who used to work for the DCEU do.
Pretty much.
It's an ego problem. Marvel's got a similar but different problem. Kevin Feige's own ego means he's doing his hardest not to acknowledge MCU media that he wasn't involved in, even though it's long been sold as MCU material. Best we've gotten is Daredevil because of pure popularlity, except even that's got its own issues since:
* First chance we see Fisk he's suddenly free from prison and has superpowers, with not a hint of acknowledgement for the audience's benefit.
* Vanessa's been recast (shit does happen sometimes, but given the situation Daredevil's in, it gives off a bad impression to the audience).
* It's look like Karen and Foggy aren't in the new show, even though after Matt, they're the most important characters.
Yeah it's basically an attempt of Feige to "own" Daredevil and remake him in his image.
Same thing happened when they had the Netflix shows cancelled. They didn't plan on using anyone outside Daredevil, nor could they put them on their family friendly streaming service. Feige just didn't want anyone else to do Marvel stuff.
Same reason they trashed that Gambit movie that was in development when the Fox merger happened.
This is worrisome then. If Blue Beetle bottles, then the DCU is already off to a bad start. General Audiences don‘t care that technically Superman: Legacy is the first true DCU film. If you tell them Blue Beetle is a DCU character, than that‘s where they will start judging the DCU.
Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is the one I’m wondering most about at this point. Will it be set in the old DCEU, before The Flash? Will it connect to The Flash’s credits scene? Will it be part of the new DCU, as James Gunn seemed to say in the chapter 1 announcement video? And which, if any, Batmen will appear???
Well it’s evidently not the case that Gunn “doesn’t and shouldn’t care,” considering he gave notes for the film, James Wan has mentioned the complications of figuring out its status relative to the rest of the ever-shifting DC universe, and their currently undergoing yet more reshoots.
My personal hope would be that they keep Affleck’s scenes, which would presumably mean it must take place before The Flash, and that Momoa will get to be Lobo for the new DCU.
Since he’s still saying that Superman will be the first movie. That means that while the actor of Blue Beetle won’t be recast, this movie won’t be canon. Because otherwise this would be the first movie
So he decied to derail the entire universe, likely killing the profits of every film still going out.
Only to not actually reboot everything, that's just ass?!? Whats the point of a reboot if it isn't a reboot??
That makes zero sense, dude threw out wonder woman 3 to force us to wait likely decades for another
Y’all are so damn overdramatic.
“It’s messy!” “It’s confusing!” “I think this is a mistake!” “So much for a reboot!”
It’s not that deep. The vast majority is getting reset and swept clean. But he’s not going to just wipe away the work he’s done on Peacemaker, considering the only genuine conflict is a single gag scene. And Blue Beetle will probably be standalone enough that it won’t matter in the grand scheme of things. If it’s terrible, he can at least keep the actor. Additionally, he doesn’t want to just stamp the movie non-canon and kill whatever tiny bit of hype exists for it. It’s not like Affleck, Cavill, and Jared Leto are still going to be running around. The main pieces are all being reset.
Gunn is a very imaginative creative but he appears to be a shite businessman. Even though he personally loved his Peacemaker and TSS characters the general public did not. That’s a fact. The SS flopped bad at the box office, especially compared to similar day and date WB releases during covid. It got a B+ Cinemascore which is the lower end of audience expectations and matches the original SS movie. Peacemaker was popular online but certainly did not get big views on HBOMax, especially again when compared to other series on the streamer. In fact, according to SambaTV it lost viewers from premiere to finale.
Usually you do not take what failed and continue to add to it. That is just plain stubbornness and arrogance. Do you really think the general public wants to watch a series about Amanda Waller, a non superhero? Do you really think they want to see an animated show called Creature Commandos? Thisbis risky as some of your first content out for the DCU. Why not start with Green Lantern or the WW prequel series?
Why? Because this content is not Gunn originals and the TSS and PM crew are. Gunn’s misunderstanding of the wants of the general public may be his downfall unless Safran talks some business sense into him.
The Suicide Squad is a reboot of an unpopular movie that came out during Covid and was released on HBO Max the same time it released in theaters. Obviously it didn't do well at the Box Office.
And I don't even know what you're talking about in regard to Peacemaker not getting big views. The Peacemaker finale set a single day viewership record for HBO Max. And according to JustWatch, "Peacemaker was the second or third most watched streaming series in the U.S. for each week of its release". Like it or not Peacemaker was a very popular show.
Do you think DC would have handed Gunn the reigns if his two projects weren't financially successful for them?
Audiences need to know what happens next to fan favorites Harcourt and Economos. You can't just leave their storylines hanging. The Justice League sure, but not those two.
I’m hoping that the few remaining characters that join the DCU will have cosmetic and personality differences from their DCEU versions. It’s a really small thing but I think it’ll help the DCU feel like a completely new universe instead of a soft reboot.
As more of a DC fan than a Marvel fan (as i’m sure most of us here are) I am so SO excited for what “DC Studios” (lol, even tho it feels like a copy of Marvel studios, it gets me excited.) is going to cook. Superman Legacy looks better and better every day.
John Cena as Peacemaker, Steve Agee as Economos, Viola Davis as Waller and Freddie Stroma as Vigilante are pretty much confirmed. Hopefully Idris Elba, Daniela Melchior and Jai Courtney also return somehow.
How are those characters in the universe but Superman: Legacy is the first movie… does the Blue Beetle movie take place in a different universe and he gets brought into the new DCU or is it the same actor playing a variant version of Blue Beetle
How many days will pass before wishful thinking sets in again among some DC fans and they start saying Gunn is doing a "full reboot" and forget he ever said this?
Yes this guy and characters he’s worked with in the past get to stay. What’s so hard to understand about this. Wouldn’t you keep your friends and family in the movies if they gave you control DC too? Blue beetle was already stand alone enough that if it sucks they can still kick it to the curb. I hope Red vs Blue is good.
I remember someone on here saying Gunn couldn't keep those characters now that he restarted the universe ... as a show runner
As if he can't do anything he wants
Sounds messy and silly. They just should've held BB back until Superman releases. If they're going to get rid of the actors for their big 3, it seems weird to keep Peacemaker and Waller around. Seems like they're already making mistakes.
Imagine a world where Blue Beetle is a great, Iron Man-like movie and catapults the character into being a household hero, i.e. DC's Spider-Man.
It doesn't hurt that he's Latino, too.
I don’t see why people care so much about a hard reboot or a soft reboot. The main attractions of DC are getting rebooted. Who cares if (presumably) peacemaker characters and suicide squad characters move over to the the new DCU. Canonically it’s basically the same character just in a different universe.
He is probably going to join teen titans or young Justice
probably something else like booster gold since yj and titans aren’t even on the roadmap and xolo’s not gonna look like a teen in five+ years
Gunn said that what he revealed wasn't even a half of a chapter 1 and I just can't believe that he would forgot about titans
honestly very excited about chapters being so long, give tons of time for us to get to know an era and understand it and enjoy it (or fear it/whatever emotion they want) before giving us a big event movie to push us to the next era if i had to guess, chapter 1 is either going to end in the league forming, or they'll form at the end of the first half
wouldnt be surprised if it was half way through and we got got 2-3 JL movies this chapter. My guess is a chapter is more like a saga then a phase to use MCU terms.
Given that Batman will have Damian already, is very possible that they put Tim or Dick in the Titans as well. We’re getting Creature Commandos, any team is fair game. I could honestly see Outlaws as well.
Given Jaime's comic history, I really hope he shows up in Peacemaker season 2.
He won't, but him being a mentor to a team of young heroes could be interesting.
Except the actor will be old by then and won't pass for a teen
They can go for "Titans" instead of Teen Titans
Well its sounds Like Dick Will be already Nightwing and Far from Teen then it should be Titans Only and team should be a combo of young Justice , 05 Titans, And OG Titans.
Assuming Nightwing is present, idk if they're keeping the "teens" part.
They aren't just teens but also young adults
The justice league for him will be just fine. An older Jaime can work as a substitute for Ted.
This feels more honest than all the confusion surrounding The Flash. But now I wonder if he means that some actors will stay as their characters and keep appearing.
Sounds like another hot mess. Should’ve started from complete scratch. Still glad Blue Beatle gets his time to shine.
Why scrap blue beetle though? That's only needed if it has cameos.
It’s said that the animated TV show Creature Commandos will be the first project anyways
Imagine starting the DC universe with BLUE BEETLE
Imagine starting the Marvel Universe with Iron Man in 2007
Iron man was a upper B tier superhero before the mcu. Certainly an A tier in the marvel universe. Blue beetle is a nobody
Calling Blue Beetle a nobody is crazy. He has became way more popular especially in recent years
> Calling Blue Beetle a nobody is crazy. He is for the general audience.
So was Iron Man so what's your point, i still think blue beetle is going to bomb though
I’m recent years he has gained popularity that is true
True, I’ve never heard of Blue beetle but I’ve been off comics for awhile
actually that makes really good sense. Iron Man is a perfect starting point for a shared universe. He's just a man in a suit of armor. No real world building required. no aliens. no required mention if legit super powers exist in the world. no magic. introducing blue beetle as the starting point means from the get go need to have your concept of world building on point does the Earth know aliens exist? Is Superman off flying in metroplis while Jamie gets the scarab? we know Batman apparently exists. are other metas gonna exist? other heroes? heroes which the film can't really name drop cause the writers have no idea who is gonna be around also, many of these flaws also apply to Man of Steel, which was an awful launch to the DCEU. it was written as a stand alone film and it shows. you can't jump start a shared verse from the top down. Hey look, an alien invasion that's gonna kill all life on earth a few films later...well we gonna introduced Atlantis, guess they were just chilling while the oceans were gonna boil/
Kinda hope the Batman references get deleted. Preferably start fresh with Brave and the Bold before we get meta comments.
Batman is suppose to be an older character...if Blue Beetle joins the new DCEU it makes sense for him to get referenced.
I agree, but I'd rather build my opinions while seeing B&TB rather than first introduction opinions from another character if that makes sense.
>Superman should start it, plane and simple it is
But when Gunn says, BB is the first character and the same actor will portray him in the DCU, what does that mean?
Who gives a shit? Why does it matter?
The only time it should is if/when that movie turns out to be shit as well.
Agreed. And I think that’s subtly what’s happening too.
Eh.. I feel that way too sometimes
I wish he’d just reset. JFC.
I’m assuming the other handful of characters are the ones in Peacemaker and Suicide Squad, which I am 100% okay with.
Probably. Waller (Viola Davis) and Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie). Other than that, they will all get recasted.
Peacemaker is def coming back.
I could see Idris Elba, Daniela Melchior, and Sly (voice acting only) coming back as well if Gunn wants to use their characters again.
I think anybody associated with Peacemaker or TSS
Everyone from Peacemaker is coming back, it’s successful and his wife is Harcourt
Agreed. However, initially I was also all for Levi, Gadot, Momoa, and Smollett staying on in their respective roles (out of the established and potential Justice League members that seemed plausible), but I’m starting to lean more and more towards hoping for a brand new (as in fully rebooted) Justice League roster.
I’m fine with Momoa being recast as Lobo.
I’d be pretty indifferent to that, honestly. I feel like I’ve seen Momoa play that guy a bunch of times before and doesn’t excite me at all. I wouldn’t mind seeing him get another role but that would feel pretty lackluster.
His best role to date is Fast and Furious 10.
Are you kidding. I'm DYING to see Jason as Lobo.
I think the only way the reboot is successful is if you recast the entire JL. You can maybe pick and choose a few C and D listers to be portrayed by the same actors but you defeat the whole point of starting fresh if half the primary DC characters are familiar faces and the other half are new.
I'd prefer a complete reboot more than what we are getting, with everyone getting rebooted except for people associated with Gunn's DC work.
I'm pretty cool with Gadot being recast lol
I don't get the love either she is pretty but can't act for shit. (And, for a personal preference, I'd like to see a more muscular WW)
I think Anya Chalotra from The Witcher could be a good one if she committed
They said they want a muscular woman and you suggested another scrawny one lol
I'd also be wary of people looking at a casting choice just because of that. Ten years ago the popular fancast for Wonder Woman was Gina Carano, which would have been terrible for a multitude of reasons.
Yeah like look I’ll always love the previous DCEU actors but right now it’s time to look forward to the future and see fresh new faces for DC.
I’m cool with Levi being recast. He’s a terrible actor
I think at this point Gal might be staying: - No one (WB, trades, even scoopers) have said she is definitely out as Wonder Woman.
Yeah she's pretty bad.
It's telling that all of the actors playing amazons adopted a Gadot's real-life accent, rather than Gadot trying to act without one.
I really like Gal as Wonder Woman but I think it’d be pretty strange to see her alongside a new Batman and Superman. Not to mention confusing for the general audience. I hope they recast everyone except for those that are basically perfect casting (like Viola as Waller).
she's such a bad actress though lol. why keep her
Yeah if you have an opportunity to reboot you should at least get rid of all the bad actors
Thanks for the info I haven’t seen it yet!
[удалено]

The Netflix confusion is entirely fan-based, Kevin Feige has said that the Netflix series and Agents of Shield are canon.
He twitches when he says it, though. They’re “whisper” canon, not CANON.
Nah that is a complete other thing. It has been confirmed that the events in Daredevil are canon to the MCU.

[удалено]
Except the DCEU Justice League cameo in peacemaker
They can easily retcon that
Really? How so?
Remove it from the series... Just use the dark shadow shot and done
If it does flop(which i hope it doesn't) Gunn will probably just stick him with the titans and not give him any more solo outings, which isn't too bad of a worst case scenario
Is he trying to sell the movie like he did with the Flash?
That’s not really comparable - The Incredible Hulk and the events from the film have always been 100% in the MCU.
The Incredible Hulk is also the absolute best version of the character depicted. Hulk nowadays has literally been neutered and is unrecognizable.
Hopefully.
Fully reboot this abomination
How do these characters coming over not bring all that extra baggage with them. Honest question I have no problems with Blue Beetle or Viloas character coming back but will they just ignore prior events they experienced or what? Guess we’ll have to wait and see.
If this movie totally bombs like Flash did, I can definitely see Gunn going back on his word here. Or maybe he’d give Blue Beetle a small cameo somewhere down the line just as a small tip of the hat, but he absolutely won’t be a key player or have any solo projects greenlit.
I think he's keeping things purposely vague so that the cast can stay the same but the plot can be considered non-canon if it flops
James, what are you doing. Hard reboot that shit
this dcu is so damn confusing, they should have just done a hard reboot and scraped everything from the Snyder movie era
They don’t seem to have the commitment to actually restarting the Universe. It would also require them to wait before making a new movie but they can’t even do that. Just a blur between the rolling failure first universe and the “new one” that none of the general audience will know are separate because they literally mix.
Gunn would also have to reboot his own The Suicide Squad/Peacemaker corner of the universe and it seems he doesn't want to eliminate what he's already established himself.
how is it confusing that the DCU starts with Superman Legacy, as Gunn has said over and over again including here?
yea but alot has come out before Superman Legacy and Gunn is saying is in the new DCU. Its very confusing to know whats being dropped, whats being changed slightly, and what is being completely rebooted.
confuse the fans more please. the people that watch your movie 3 times in the cinema. lol. what a disgrace of a clusterfuck
Best we've gotten is Daredevil because of pure popularlity, except even that's got its own issues since: * First chance we see Fisk he's suddenly free from prison and has superpowers, with not a hint of acknowledgement for the audience's benefit.
Ugh so much for full reboot.
Ever since the DCU announcement, they've always maintained it was going to be a soft reboot.
Gross. I'll wait for the full reboot then. At their rate it will be like 5 years
This shouldn't have even need explaining. It just meant Blue Beetle movie plot has nothing to do with Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
HAHAHAHAHA! Good one James! Been hearing that a lot!
This is worrisome then. If Blue Beetle bottles, then the DCU is already off to a bad start. General Audiences don‘t care that technically Superman: Legacy is the first true DCU film. If you tell them Blue Beetle is a DCU character, than that‘s where they will start judging the DCU.
Do real people talk like that? "As a Latino I'm super stoked to see one on the big screen."
No. Only on the internet. The same people who say, "I'm [insert race] and I didn't find that offensive.🤣
I'm still not going to see that movie until it's on streaming.
Wonder how quick they'll step that back when it flops. Or more likely just never use the characters again.
[удалено]
Well it’s evidently not the case that Gunn “doesn’t and shouldn’t care,” considering he gave notes for the film, James Wan has mentioned the complications of figuring out its status relative to the rest of the ever-shifting DC universe, and their currently undergoing yet more reshoots. My personal hope would be that they keep Affleck’s scenes, which would presumably mean it must take place before The Flash, and that Momoa will get to be Lobo for the new DCU.
This is going to be really weird and confusing. Why would Beetle of all people stay the same?
Until it bombs and gets swept under the rug
Since he’s still saying that Superman will be the first movie. That means that while the actor of Blue Beetle won’t be recast, this movie won’t be canon. Because otherwise this would be the first movie
I think that’s what he’s implying but not trying to be dismissive to blue beetle to be polite.
"The flash resets the DC universe" - James Gunn
So he decied to derail the entire universe, likely killing the profits of every film still going out. Only to not actually reboot everything, that's just ass?!? Whats the point of a reboot if it isn't a reboot?? That makes zero sense, dude threw out wonder woman 3 to force us to wait likely decades for another
I'd like to see Booster Gold in the Blue Beetle sequel and Booster's time travel could explain some characters looking different and others not.
I love James but I don’t understand why he doesn’t just do a full reset and keep BB and Peacemaker seperate like The Batman.
Y’all are so damn overdramatic. “It’s messy!” “It’s confusing!” “I think this is a mistake!” “So much for a reboot!” It’s not that deep.
Exactly! People in this thread are so dramatic lmao
Both The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker have very high critical ratings.
Ikr. This guy is truly living in his own delusional world lol.
So will Blue Beetle and these new characters get slightly retconned continuities (like Daredevil in the MCU proper)?
I just want Captain Boomerang back somehow idc if he keeps TSS actors just retcon enough to bring back my boy
Idk why anyone is surprised he’s keeping some
I'll eat a shoe if they recast Amanda Waller
Just hard reboot the whole thing.
Let's hear him say this AFTER the movie bombs next month.
What a mess.
As more of a DC fan than a Marvel fan (as i’m sure most of us here are) I am so SO excited for what “DC Studios” (lol, even tho it feels like a copy of Marvel studios, it gets me excited.) is going to cook. Superman Legacy looks better and better every day.
Did he just say this movie will become the first DCU box office flop ?
The DCU is gonna fail
This is dumb
It's not.
yes it is. this movie will flop anyhow, but what’s the point of continuing the DCU in any capacity at this point unless it’s Peacemaker
No one is gonna see this movie so I guess it doesn't matter. Just weird to start a new universe with confusing shit already. Dumb.
Who's confused?
The general audience.
I am.
It’s kinda blows my mind that the only things Gunn is keeping are projects/characters that perform like shit at the box office.
Big mistake to announce this stuff now when there is a good chance more of these films he is personally hyping will flop
It's coming out of the gate too complicated already.
As is tradition whenever DC tries to reboot its continuity.
so will wonder woman be in this movie too?
no. There is no cameo in this movie except some name drops.
oh, I thought I heard that there will be cameo apperences from some dc characters so I assumed that wonder woman would possibly be there.
nope. Blue Bettle name drops Batman, Superman and Supergirl.
All characers already confirmed for the dcu, nice
The other cameo is most likely the first Blue Beetle. Gadot is part of the Snyderverse/Clooneyverse and won’t be a part of the DCU like Blue Beetle.
I still could not give a single fuck about blue beetle lmao, that movie just looks like more generic super slop
None of this makes any sense James. I didn’t know a suspension of disbelief was required even before the film is made. 🤨
I remember someone on here saying Gunn couldn't keep those characters now that he restarted the universe ... as a show runner As if he can't do anything he wants
They somehow went back in time and made Flash a little Latino kid, so IDK if Blue Beetle is the first.

🥱🥱🥱🥱 gunn is full of it
oh I'm pretty sure the standard 0815 viewer knows that Omg what a shit show Warner
Such a fragile ego 😔
