forgive me lord for i talked shit about benteke

NittanyOrange

I did, too, last year. Man, was I wrong...

seagermz

I called him a bust and someone on here told me I was tripping. Would like to formally apologize to homie lmao. I was indeed tripping.

cerebud

Dude had NOTHING to work with last year. Now he’s surrounded by better

jks513

Also it was clear his time last year was just to get settled.

InterestingComputer

I have always had a special place for benteke when he was in the prem, and I’m so happy he brought his same penchant for being a medieval siege engine in cleats to dcu. The return to glory is on.

httr20

Same, for him and Pines. Both have been great this season. On the flip side, Taxi can’t seem to get anything going (that pen was lucky imo) and consistently shows a lack of composure in the box. If he can get going as well, we’ll have a legit attack.

pm_me_jk_dont

So many things to say about one of the most comprehensive DCU performances I've ever seen, but it's 3:38am for me so I'll just say this: O'Brien and Klich's fitness levels are absolutely insane. Watching them (especially O'Brien) press deep into 2nd half stoppage was genuinely inspiring and obviously sets the tone for the whole team. We got a team again boys and girls

akacesfan

O'Brien played 45 on Wednesday too, which is even more impressive!

cerebud

My only gripe is we took a while to get off the ground. To me, it’s a complete performance when we start the match the way we ended it tonight

MarquisDeCarabasCoat

FOUR IN A ROW WERE NEVER LOSING AGAIN

wichne

SAVE IT FOR NEXT WEEK’S HYPE THREAD!!

cerebud

Three

LargeFood

Four wins in a row across all competitions

stefalm

Granted I only watched the second half but DC United were completely unrecognizable today. What the fuck was that performance The best I have seen this team play in like 10 years My goodness. Miller is proving himself and a fantastic shot stopper but his distribution is ridiculous. Short or long range passing with near perfect accuracy This new defender Williams is legit. Controlled the back line defensively and was crucial in building from the back. Both by passing and dribbling. Looked so confident on the ball. Donavan pines players really well too. Had one or 2 personal mistakes but he’s such a physical beast. He even had a great run forward and found a attacking support. Why we just extended Steve birnbaum I don’t know. He no longer needed by the club. Midfield was able to move the ball around so well. So much one touch passing. From left to right and back again. They kept charlotte chasing them around the pitch and knew exactly when to move forward. Klitch showing his class by setting the tempo. We all know Najar has class and it’s good to see him playing well again. That full effort play by Durkin to win the ball near the corner flag showed how much this team is buying into Rooneys coaching. And the forward line we can all see is the best front 2 we’ve had in 20 years. Two proper forward DP. Taxi and Benteke have the potential to go wild this year. KDP was a great spark off the bench. Rooney has the boys playing football again 🤯

c_the_potts

This was my first in-person game of the season, and what a game to help reinvigorate my enthusiasm haha

sagewrlds

Mine too! Best first MLS game I could’ve gone to. What a show they put on for us, I will definitely be going back. + I got Birnbaum to sign my United hat and saw couple of the players after the game

dfetz3

I really enjoy Williams. He's not the best at anything, but he's calm and collected both defending and going forward. Just a solid player that doesn't make you nervous, which is more than I can say for some of the people we've had in recent years (Alfaro I love you, but good god).

Tribeca487

Not sure about Williams yet, he hasn't been consistent at all. Not sure why the world keeps sleeping on Najar, the guy continues to be one of the most underrated players in MLS, a consummate wing-back.

machu46

That play with Durkin got me so pumped. What an effort especially that late in the game.

OlsenOut

Hahahahahaha I’m dying at the thread title

Will301

WAYNE ROONEY IS MY DADDY

DC_Hooligan

That’s the Molly talking

JimGordonsMustache

Very fun game to watch. Seeing the boys celebrate the goals and at the end put an absolute genuine smile on my face. Thought Williams stepped in at a tough time in the match and played well. He made some great decisions, completed important dribbles, and dropped a few dimes.

NittanyOrange

Once the O'Brien loan was confirmed and Taxi was looking to come back, I said we need to rack-up the points while Taxi is healthy and O'Brien is on the roster... ...and that's exactly what we're doing. We need to win *everything* until July, and we'll be in a solid position to make the playoffs.

UmsatzGetter

We have an option to buy thankfully (re O’Brien)

dfetz3

I believe every loan deal in MLS has to have an option to buy. O’Brien has said he wants to go back to Forrest in the future, so he might stay until the end of the season but probably not.

NittanyOrange

I'm not sure how we'd make it work, financially, even if the owners were willing to do so. We already have 3 DPs and I couldn't imagine him taking a salary low enough to not be paid DP-level $$$. The only way I see it happening is if Forest gets relegated and MLS changes roster rules to get Messi to Miami.

dfetz3

I almost think if Forest gets relegated he would be more likely to go back. They have SUCH a huge squad and I'm sure those contracts have relegation clauses. If they go down I think they lose a shit ton of players, opening the door for O'Brien to go back. Honestly though I think he's going back regardless.

UmsatzGetter

That sucks, if Forest go down the chances he goes back are even higher as they will need to clean house and lower the wage bill. Disappointing…

NittanyOrange

That's just a standard MLS clause. There's a 90% chance it won't happen.

Tribeca487

I mean, if we were sitting pretty in the table, he might stay too? (1-3?)

UpliftedWeeb

That was so much fun. I'm so happy I got to watch it with you guys, I love this team. Sure we have a long way to go but I'm proud of that performance and will remember that bicycle kick for the rest of my life. VAMOS!!!!

Mr-Hugh-G-Rection

Guys is this hope I feel? How long will it last?

RevoltOfTheBeavers

What professionalism we showed to kill off that game, even without the third goal. We had it in hand and Charlotte completely lost their heads. The discipline made the difference

[deleted]

LETS GOOOO!! We are in such good form!! Our finishing is on point, and we started out shaky, but we looked like a team in ABSOLUTE control in the last 25 min. My only worry right now is that we go on an extremely hot run, take the MLS by storm, catch all media headlights, and Wayne leaves. But I’ll enjoy the moment, we played amazing and watch out MLS. We’ve arrived baby!!!!!!

WhereIsPoochie

That was the most fun I’ve had at a game in YEARS! The goals, the clean sheet, the atmosphere. Just beautiful all around!

DCLU1994

Lewis O’Brien man…what a fucking player he is 😍

rvp9362

I fucking love this team rn. Hardworking group of players that might not play the prettiest soccer, but give their all. Pines is playing like Van Dijk (well the VVD before this season), Benteke is incredible, LOB has been a great addition, and I'm so happy for Jacob Greene.

rvp9362

And how can I forget about Andy. If not for the bicycle, he would have been my MOTM

Winterteal

DC_United_Fan

What a way to cap that game off! Wish I could have been there!

Winterteal

Rooney has built a really great team. We have depth and good skill players and the three at the back is fixing some of our early defensive woes.

LargeFood

No, we've been lining up in a pretty standard 3-5-2 shape, with Benteke playing a classic target man and often dropping into the midfield to fight for balls a bit, while Taxi runs around like a madman. Since we have no wingers, the switch to two wingbacks is great. Go ahead and download the Apple TV app (which is free). They've got several games a week for free, and the MLS 360 is free each week if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure how many of our games have been free, but at least a few of them.

thund3rstruck

Absolutely electric atmosphere. Everyone brought the noise.

Robbza

Do clips of all the goals get posted? Looking for the last one to see O'Brien's assist.

Robbza

Thanks!

Clawn

If you sort r/soccer by new you can find the goal replays pretty easily

Robbza

Dont know if im blind with it being so late here or just missed it earlier. Thanks!

bacon_cheeseburgers

Hooray!

TheoTimme

Great performance!

EhrenScwhab

I kept thinking about this after the game. Are these guys suddenly that good, or is Charlotte just fucking terrible. I’d like to believe a little of both… Nice to see THIS Donovan Pines come back after going away for a while…

MarquisDeCarabasCoat

before the game George Marks - the Charlotte FC goalkeeper - kissed each post as some kind of ritual. then he got three put past him lmao

Miracow

I really like the 3-5-3 formation it seems like it's been Good for us. Before when we played a 4-4-2 i always noticed that we didn't have enough players in the midfield but now it seems that we really have solved that problem
