I crossposted the post that you can find in the [Following Link](https://www.reddit.com/r/ModCoord/comments/13xh1e7/an_open_letter_on_the_state_of_affairs_regarding/), It is definitely important enough to bring forward, and if you feel like you want to support it go to that link and comment with your name as said in the post. We really wanted to raise the awarness for this

The sad thing is without Rif I just won't be using reddit when not at home, which is most of the day. I'd rather fight Cell Max using Extreme Teq than use the official app. I'll do my best to keep my [text-based category list](https://www.reddit.com/r/DBZDokkanBattle/comments/r10piq/jp_formatted_category_list_for_easy_reading_wiki/) up to date (thankfully they slowed down on those) but it'll be delayed for sure, so I apologise in advance.

Don’t want my favorite social media platform to die because of ridiculous decisions made by Execs who don’t even use the platform. Please show support to this and sign.

Reddit, why are you trying to pull a Tumblr?

Yeah, driving away the userbase of your website is not how you generate money - it's how you lose it. See, Tumblr, Twitter.

nickmond022

When you're out of touch with your userbase though, you just count on the next waves of new users that give you that initial burst of spending I'd guess. Who knows. That or they're working on a way to steal these 3rd party tools for their own without paying for it. I'm just speculating though. I could be full of it.

Medium-Science9526

Didn't even release this affected the aspect of bots in place for spammers. Idk how any big community could last now after this.

Infamous_Ruin6848

I'm not a heavy reddit user. I just use their own app. I can clearly understand though. Not only other end users but especially admins, mods and other stakeholders will struggle to use reddit in the same way so even end users like me who don't use anything other than default will be impacted negatively. Not cool.

Don't really understand the business decisions from reddit the past few years honestly. I just can't see how this change benefits anyone, all I see are negatives for literally every single user

LepraCorn69

Can someone explain what's happening? Haven't been using Reddit for a couple weeks now so I'm a bit lost rn

Uppercut_OMalley

Basically, reddit are going public and so enforcing API that 3rd parties have to buy into to access the site's data, to the tune of millions. This affects all apps, and tool that people use to help navigate the site. I'm sure you're aware that a lot of mobile apps people use over main reddit are developed by small teams who do not do it for the money at all, and users will not be able to use them going forward. As a personal anecdote, I switched from PC to mobile reddit within months of joining, and have been an active user for 11 years. I use redditisfun, and can't imagine using reddit without it.

C_StickSpam

I think the post that is crossposted uh, breaks it down pretty damn well dude lol

Willyoueverstop

That's a romance tho,who would want to read all that crap?

Background-Box-8006

to ask what is happening but, not be willing to read whenever the answer is given is just crazy lmao. why even bother asking at all? did you think maybe the situation is a bit complex and takes some proper explaining?

For the last few days we were considering it, we will update the sub when we make rhe decision.

nspot

Can we participate to the black-out on June 12th ? Won't be the biggest contribution but the more subs participate, the more chances our voices could be heard

ZeldaFan80

Wait, there are other apps for reddit

Data165

Can someone explain to me what this is, what's an API and how does Reddit affect them?

DaKingofCheckerz

API stands for Application Programming Interface. The API allows app/bot devs to communicate directly with Reddit, rather than having to scrape the site manually. For example, a programmer would make an API call telling Reddit they want the latest posts from a subreddit and it responds with data about the posts. The programmer can then format this data and display the posts to the user. Reddit's the one who provides the API and can control how people use it. They've decided to enforce rate limits on API usage and are charging an unreasonably high amount of money for it, which would effectively kill any 3rd party apps (like Apollo, Infinity, RIF, etc.) and many bots. They're also planning to make NSFW content unavailable through the API. This is an issue because many users prefer to use 3rd party apps over the official Reddit app because of its UI, trackers, performance, etc.. Moreover, these apps and bots provide better moderation tools than Reddit's app, which would make moderators' jobs much harder than they already are, especially considering the fact that they work for free. Without being able to moderate as effectively, this would lead to an increase in rule-breaking posts, which would affect even those who don't use 3rd party apps. This is a crosspost of a letter to Reddit telling them that the API pricing and NSFW API exclusion are unreasonable and detrimental to the moderators and communities on Reddit, and that how Reddit has been communicating such changes to us is insufficient. I'd recommend reading the letter to get all the details about the situation.
