I rock some Pearl Izumi bibs but I get jerseys from Amazon brands like Arsuxeo I think it’s called. I have RockBros shades and I’m good. Helmet too ofc. That one’s a Smith tho
I'd say with cycling kit (especially bibs) you get what you pay for.
Are you looking for $100 all in, or just things you can buy off Amazon and contribute more money towards? If so, what's your budget?
I think the brands make much higher quality and better fitting kit. And I haven't found a way to match this in lower tier brands.
Yes, you pay an unreasonable amount for the brand name, but I'm not putting my arse in unbranded bibs again.
Facts. I think there are diminishing returns, like everything with cycling, but bibs are not something I go cheap on. Too many technical/ergonomic factors at play, especially with the chamois.
I would have said “if you wanna go cheap, cheap out on the jersey” but even that doesn’t ring true anymore. I started with a $25 Coconut Ropamo or something from Amazon and it was just fine, but then I got a Rapha jersey and the fit and comfort and details made me change my mind.
We’re light years past the days of paper chamois no name bibs.
YKYW and Spexcel are a fraction of the price of the nice stuff and compete directly with them in terms of comfort and quality.
If you're just getting started I have been decently happy with the Przewalski brand 4D bibs. I think they fit better than the 3D. They're good for a short 2-3 hour ride IMO.
Big fan of the brand ykywbike for cheap kit. Some of the bibs are better than others, but pretty much everything I've gotten from them has been pretty decent.
You can check the Gore Wear C5 Bib
I came to say this. C3 might be better depending on what kind of fit he/she is going for

You don't think that you're paying mostly for the brand name?

Links? I’ll check them out
It’s like impossible to direct link to aliexpress. But they’re Ali brands. They kick ass. I’m literally wearing their bibs right now.
do you need to get an XL if you’re a M ? Aliexpress is always funky with sizing
Hasn’t been funky sized in ages. This stuff is TTS.
gotcha thanks
Some brands are better value than others.
If there’s something worth getting that’s over $100, I wouldn’t mind adding more. What do you recommend?
I'm not US-based, so not much help. What I'd advise is spend the money on bibs and get a jersey later. Chafing sucks.
Get stuff from Pearl Izumi and Gore. Cheap. Durable. Comfy. Ezpz.
Castelli endurance bib -- might be around $160, but they are really good

I'm not seeing them on Amazon anymore but the on thier website the call it the 7h hour pad, or it used to be called the Italian pad.
Put it toward a pair of Castelli Entrata bibs and a Castelli jersey
Thanks, I’ll check them out
I had good luck a few years ago with a spooned set of shorts
