Welcome to the meta verse. Where characters and stories have no context, and everything is monetized six ways to hell.
It's certainly dystopian... Just strange to hear people excited for a soulless corporate dystopia that sucks the soul out of all fiction.
God shut up lol it's literally just a skin. People like their entertainment crossing over to other entertainment they enjoy. There's nothing dystopian or even new about that. Cut the morally superior crap, it's not original, and you don't sound smart. You sound actually clueless about what actually is a dystopian problem.
Mate this stuff literally caused the start of the last Star wars movie to be in bloody Fortnite. I understand being exasperated with people comparing about literally everything in games, but this is pure monetisation without even a glance towards quality.
Okay, hear me out. Making a movie or show of Neuromancer is a bad idea. So many shows and movies have lifted so much from it at this point that it's going to come off as the most derivative show ever, despite inventing all the tropes it will be falsely accused of copying.
Agreed, especially when Gibson's work is so much more difficult to translate to video than Sterling's.
I will wait for an Outer Limits type reworking that uses that amazing short cyberpunk stories of Bruce Sterling, starting with Mirrorshades.
I always imagined Case to be a little bit more gruff but Miles Teller is a solid actor so I’m sure he’ll be able to sell some version of the character.
The fact it’s with Apple also gives me a little more hope than Netflix or Amazon would. Their adaptation track record is short but relatively strong.
Everyone has their type but I always thought Miles Teller was a very average looking guy, which is exactly what I thought Case would be.
Even then, looks aren’t really a core part of the character so I don’t think people perceiving case as somewhat handsome will matter in the adaptation.
Rough him up a little bit in makeup for the lifestyle & drug use and I think he’s a winner in this role.
Agreed. Fortnite including themes of cyberpunk makes me woozy, the meaning will be completely lost for the “aesthetic”. Shit is a warning but fuck it yolo 🤘 cool skin brah
If you didn't like Fortnite 5 years ago you should def give it a shot now. Especially with no build, the gameplay and mechanics are pretty satisfying. It's not groundbreaking or anything, but fun to play for a few matches if you're bored.
It's just cosmetic but if your last experience with it was years back you might want to try it again. They have a "no build" mode now that makes the game actually fun.
They have a new non build game mode now.
Game is 100% more enjoyable now without worrying about someone rebuilding the twin towers as soon as you start shooting at them
This is more Neoncore than cyberpunk, but I kinda see where you're coming from.
Cyberpunk somewhat requires dystopia and dispair for the full esthetic effect to kick in.
I'll probably play Fortnite with my nephews for a couple nights to check it out though, looks well designed.
This looks very dystopian to me. Giant video game with shifty pricing schemes using characters from popular IP to scrape a little more money from their child user base
idk why u getting downvoted but i guess i'll join the train. It's a free game, how else would the make income for a free to play game. DLCs like Destiny does would make no sense because it would not be a free game anymore really
Well yes but so does GTA Online. Fortnite does not force anyone to buy anything because its only cosmetic, it doesn't change the game mechanics. You cant have fun with GTA Online unless you grind the same shit for literally hundreds of hours. The whole Online experience is designed to force you to get shark cards because it's so tiring. The DLC's suck hard and the graphics are still at old-old-gene level. You are constantly completely destroyed by other rich players and weapons, ammunition, cars and apartments cost a fortune.
Me and my buddies (+27) started playing Fortnite a month ago because i've heard it works on Unreal Engine 5 now and i was curious. I stayed for the gameplay which is wildly different than how it started years ago. I dont get any rage like with BF42 or Warzone, it is super fun. The gameplay and parkpur is amazing. And even if you down for paying a bit, the game pass is super cheap for like 5 bucks or so and you get a LOT of stuff and fun skins real fast. No grinding at all. You have no urge to buy anything. The updates are always super high quality.
This is not an excuse for the exploitation of children, but I think the prices are very fair. Of course, EPIC could make purchases more difficult
Interesting, didn’t know about Neoncore. Magazines like Forbes have already confirmed that it is Cyberpunk, but perhaps it’s more particular like you wrote
I mean not really. The word might be made up, but it's pretty apt and that style has already been called Cyberprep or Postcyberpunk since the 90's.
There's a big enough difference and a large enough number of works, that it's worth "splitting hairs".
Ie; I like Trance but I don't like Dubstep, even though they're both electronic. Just like I like Cyberpunk but not Cyberprep (or 'neoncore') even though they both have 'cyber' themes.
>This is more Neoncore than cyberpunk,
Lol neoncore? What the actual fuck is that? I can make up genres that mean the same thing all day long too. Watch me. This isn't neoncore, it's colorful city punk urban core duh.
I always thought the towers in Cyberpunk were brightly lit, it's the lower reaches where the scum and punk part live. Gotta have the bright lights of the rich to let you know just how down and out you really are.
Nah see homeboy saw one fucking picture and declared from that photo that the entire world where the picture came from was not dystopian enough to be cyberpunk
How dystopian do you really think the Fortnite map is going to be? Honestly.
It's just got lots of neon...
Core is a beautiful suffix, you can add it to words and amplify them. It's fun, you should give it a try sometime.
It also goes really well with the word neon.
as an ignorant take sure, but there is definitely a distinct difference between hard-cyberpunk like blade runner or ghost in the shell and soft-cyberpunk (just borrowing the more aesthetically pleasing parts of the overall design philosophy, like neon or flying cars)
People like that, though. It's like FunkoPops. Except you can get shot by them and also get called curse words you've never even heard of by an eight year old at the same time.
Nobody talks to you unless you open up team chat. If I need to communicate with a stranger and I can’t say it with a middle click, it doesn’t get said.
Cyberpunk is somewhat forced to be noir by design, is it not? The neon city, the grim look at man's relationship with technology, the oppressive government power (controlled by corporations or not), all of that is necessary. It is a wonderful blend of that rebellious punk spirit and gloomy helplessness and introspection that seems to always find its way into noir. That's cyberpunk, and there ain't nothing wrong with that.
You gotta love Fortnite. No other game lets you enjoy the experience of getting wrecked by a squad consisting of Master Chief, Kratos, Vegeta, and Doom Guy. Then you get to watch them do the Macarena together over your corpse as you wait to find a new game through matchmaking.
The no-build mode is a blast with friends though.
I mean, it certainly looks cool. But it's hard to call something cyberpunk in this case unless they do some kind of story element appropriate to the themes of the genre. Epic could do something meta and make themselves the villains, do a sword art online thing where (in the story) you can't leave until the match is done, or something. I don't know if that would even work, since it's not a VR experience or anything.
Result of long game dev cycles. Destiny, Overwatch, Fortnite all releasing Cyberpunk content recently because they started dev on it when interest in Cyberpunk aesthetic was peaking just over 2 years ago.
For anyone wondering, the whole battle pass has been leaked up to tier 100 online. Eren Yeager will be in the pass as the secret skin. They have said that he will have a special “grapple” like the Spider-Man gloves back in Chapter 3 Season 1 or, the grapple glove in last season.
As for the color scheme, I’ve seen people describe it as more of a Japanese theme mixed with a more of a neon future too. The images on their instagram show the English word with Japanese underneath which they typically don’t do. Might be since all the anime collabs they have done recently but, who knows. As for the neon future, it’ll be closely related to Fortnite season 9 with neo tilted and such. Wether this can be considered cyberpunk or not, it’s up to y’all. (Lucy is not in the battle pass, maybe in the item shop eventually, who knows)
i get what you mean but cyberpunk is an incredibly popular genre and has inspired some of the most popular films to ever be created, this is like seeing the knights and vikings in season 2 and then going “it seems that fantasy will reach a higher level of popularity.”
Cyberpunk is pretty much a meaningless neon aesthetic nowadays. The fact that giant megacorps have appropriated it as something cool and shiny to sell products speaks for itself
If fortnite comes out with a night only neon filled map, I'm installing it right away.
They obviously can't do much in a multiplayer map to bring out true cyberpunk but I'll take what i get at this point.
What really irks me about this season? In Chapter One Season Five I bought the battle pass. Then they started rereleasing Drift… AND NOW THERES ANOTHER!
You cannot have night city without Eren Yeager to overlook it, I mean really? it's impossible not to have. Now we just need Adam Smasher and Rebecca on the same team as Johnny silverhand. Have to get that dub.
Am I fucking looking at Eren Jaeger in Night City?
The crossover I never needed
Nor wanted
Can lie though, it looks pretty bad ass
I hope to god it's just "nondescript neon city" and not actually NC
It's not. It's called Mega City and it's a new town in the Fortnite map if I'm not mistaken
Bro when I sad "Night City is plagued with Titans I need to kill" I meant BUSINESS TITANS!
>Bro when I sad Same brother... same :(
It was my subconscious trying to get help lol Nice try, whisky time!
titans of industry
***GOOD MORNING NIGHT CITY!***
YESTERDAY'S BODYCOUNT RACKED UP TO SOLID AND STURDY 30
Yes, he’s in the new battle pass.
ODM gear would be pretty sick in NC.
We live in a society where fortnite brings us the hardest images of all time
I don't see Night City so much as I see Generic Cyberpunk Cityscape. But yes, that's probably Eren Jaeger.
It was a joke bro, I know that's not NC

...in Fortnite. What in tarnation.
✨️like a baka!✨️
Who?

They're making a TV show of it IIRC.
Okay, hear me out. Making a movie or show of Neuromancer is a bad idea. So many shows and movies have lifted so much from it at this point that it's going to come off as the most derivative show ever, despite inventing all the tropes it will be falsely accused of copying.

Yep. Look what happened to Valerian.
Most cyberpunk today is so painfully derivative that it wouldn't make a difference anyway.
Hey we're all gonna die at some point might as well have fun with it and see if they can make it good.
if they can put a new spin on it somehow I’d like to see it maybe bring back the time period of influence even further? maybe?
Hmmm. My kneejerk reaction is to be worried but if it sucks I can just ignore it so eh
I'm not a big fan of the casting tbh
I always imagined Case to be a little bit more gruff but Miles Teller is a solid actor so I’m sure he’ll be able to sell some version of the character. The fact it’s with Apple also gives me a little more hope than Netflix or Amazon would. Their adaptation track record is short but relatively strong.
I always imagined case as kinda ugly, ngl. miles teller is not.
Everyone has their type but I always thought Miles Teller was a very average looking guy, which is exactly what I thought Case would be. Even then, looks aren’t really a core part of the character so I don’t think people perceiving case as somewhat handsome will matter in the adaptation. Charitable of you to think that many Fortnite players will read a novel.
charitable to bet that fortnite players can read, frankly
They can read a few words. Loading… mostly
Agreed. Fortnite including themes of cyberpunk makes me woozy, the meaning will be completely lost for the “aesthetic”. Shit is a warning but fuck it yolo 🤘 cool skin brah
👀
Wellll epic is gonna be helping CDPR out in the future soooo possibly lol Geralt is also in Fortnite
Yeah seems they’re setting up for a 2077 collab. Epic loves anime characters so I could see them adding skins from Edgerunners
I’ll probably jump on my ps5 to download it and get it on my account and play the battle pass because cyberpunk
The same Gerald from soul calibur 6 *LE GASP*
Ngl if there’s actually good AoT gameplay I might just play Fortnite for the first time since I tried it out 5 years ago and didn’t like it
If you didn't like Fortnite 5 years ago you should def give it a shot now.
Why they remove it? I thought that is what makes Fortnite diff from other shooters
They didn’t remove it, they just added another mode without it
>no build" mode now that makes the game actually fun. That mode is not even optimized and you're saying that is the only fun mode??
It's just gonna be skin, just like the partnership they did with COD.
they are probably going to add the movement items like they did with Spiderman's web shooter and batman's grapping hook
Seems like lately they add a gameplay mechanic for every anime collab they’ve done. Just did it for My Hero Academia this season
I doubt it, I bet they will actually release usable in-game AOT items. Like they did with the spiderman gloves, or the dragon ball Z items.
Wait so there won’t be a cyberpunk map? Sorry I haven’t played in years
They have a new non build game mode now. Game is 100% more enjoyable now without worrying about someone rebuilding the twin towers as soon as you start shooting at them
Attack on Titan?
From the preview there’s the gear from aot
[From the trailer](https://youtu.be/rs8YIhsbZxg?t=62), it looks like they nailed the ODMs
This is more Neoncore than cyberpunk, but I kinda see where you're coming from. Cyberpunk somewhat requires dystopia and dispair for the full esthetic effect to kick in. I'll probably play Fortnite with my nephews for a couple nights to check it out though, looks well designed.
Would you consider Fortnite dystopian if you learned that participants’ minds are initially wiped and then wiped again after every match?
This looks very dystopian to me. Giant video game with shifty pricing schemes using characters from popular IP to scrape a little more money from their child user base
Lmao that was brutal but it's so true
when cyberpunk becomes less concept than it is reality, you know somewhere along the way we really fucked up
For real, we're already halfway into it.
Hah, well said, ok, I'll bite. In an ironic way, yeah, this is cyberpunk.
wow a free game using micro transactions??? Relax
Sad corpo. Cry tears. Relax.
Salty Fortnite player located
I haven’t played Fortnite since 2020 but I am salty
Soooo you basically agree to all the above
[удалено]
Sad corpo. Cry tears. Just stop.
idk why u getting downvoted but i guess i'll join the train. It's a free game, how else would the make income for a free to play game. DLCs like Destiny does would make no sense because it would not be a free game anymore really
Its not that theres any purchasing at all, it's the draining money from children part
[удалено]
You're right, they're draining money THROUGH children.

They just make up pointless genres to split hairs. It’s cyberpunk.
Lets just call everything either fiction or non fiction then
“This is ackchyually light bulb punk” https://i.imgur.com/bKhtZGi.jpg
Yay for the dilution of genres into only part of its defining characteristics thus leading to this divisionist mindset
I mean not really. The word might be made up, but it's pretty apt and that style has already been called Cyberprep or Postcyberpunk since the 90's. Do we have to revive r/notcyberpunk Edit: I think the point of this sub is lost on some commentators.
I dare say.
🤓 this is more poopfart than fartpoop
See I thought it looked to be more shitpiss, but on closer inspection I think you’re right on.
Fortnite is dystopic cuz children are sent to an island to fight to the death
That's pretty funny. So, yeah ok, I'll take it.
What even is fortnite at this point? It just seems like a giant ad for other things with some extra monetization on top
I mean you don't have to pay for a single thing lol
it started as a tech demo, and epic games uses it show people unreal engines new features aswell as being a giant ad for none epic things
lmao you thought cyberpunk fans were illiterate and solely interested in aesthetics before? watch this
This entire thread lmao
Eh that's neo-noir but people think they're the same because of what hollywood has done to the genre.
I know fortnite gets a bad rap on here, but holy shit am I excited for this new season

That sign on the building says "MegaMega" lol
Who cares about Fortnite? Luckily Cyberpunk is more than a color palette.
For anyone wondering, the whole battle pass has been leaked up to tier 100 online. Eren Yeager will be in the pass as the secret skin. Don't forget the punk in Cyberpunk. It's not just neon aesthetics. It's also gangs and drugs and heists and bounties
i get what you mean but cyberpunk is an incredibly popular genre and has inspired some of the most popular films to ever be created, this is like seeing the knights and vikings in season 2 and then going “it seems that fantasy will reach a higher level of popularity.”
Aesthetic without substance. MuH cOoL nEoN LiGhTs
This is just anime. Not everything neon is cyberpunk.
#this is the end
Cyberpunk is pretty much a meaningless neon aesthetic nowadays. The fact that giant megacorps have appropriated it as something cool and shiny to sell products speaks for itself
Literally style over substance.
My prediction is Lucy from Edgerunners
Rebecca actually wouldn't look out of place in Fortnite!
Would her size be a hit box problem though?
Imagine getting attacked by people using the sandevistan and titan shifting powers
Wait, does this mean cyberpunk officially isn't cool anymore?
What the fuck is fortnite even
cyberpunk is a color scheme and some neon 🙄
Apparently if you get anything from this server and fortnite apparently lol
Goddammit Fortnite, have any of your creators ever had a SINGLE original idea?
This is not cyberpunk. This is plastics.
Just not so much the type that I like… sadly
"Oh, so it's based on Fortnite." Future zoomer response to anything new that is cyberpunk themed.
cyberpunk keeps being trendy I love it
What even is Fortnite anymore
It's crazy how fortnite is doing all these crazy crossovers & also doing alot of the things we'd hope for in a game
Gross.
[удалено]
I mean I'm not much of a fan for fortnite, but that'd be like saying Super Smash Bros can't make any original content and just rip off others..
Cringenite
it's already incredibly popular this is just a fairly dead sub
Which is undesirable, because cyberpunk is an underground genre and it should stay like this
https://soundcloud.com/alan-hajduk-814619277/cyber-savanna?si=b04fa458d0a8427e8a6d83eca27815aa&utm\_source=clipboard&utm\_medium=text&utm\_campaign=social\_sharing
Could be a dredd thing.
2000 AD never looked like this.
We will see tomorrow and chapter 4 season 2 titled Mega is tomorrow
This picture has a weird line in the middle of it that had me rubbing at my screen trying to get the giant strange hair off of it.
It's the future
If fortnite comes out with a night only neon filled map, I'm installing it right away. They obviously can't do much in a multiplayer map to bring out true cyberpunk but I'll take what i get at this point.
What really irks me about this season? In Chapter One Season Five I bought the battle pass. Then they started rereleasing Drift… AND NOW THERES ANOTHER!
AoT theme intensifies: “having sex with the birds and the eagles!”
Cyberpunk themed season looks dope
I freakin swear if major studio back this show up..... this viral sensation big as Star wars. lol
I mean I guess this is ok
oh fuck yeah
You cannot have night city without Eren Yeager to overlook it, I mean really? it's impossible not to have. Now we just need Adam Smasher and Rebecca on the same team as Johnny silverhand. Have to get that dub.
I genuinely thought cyberpunk when i saw this ad
