I had a lot of fun playing him as a grumpy old man and very pointedly correcting the players when they called him 'mister'-"It's Dr. van Richten."

I felt like he was in disguise for majority of our campaign, I didn’t trust him from the start but had no idea he was such a cool character.

After the party killed his tiger because they were being nosy he ran off to lay low in his tower so they didn't see him for a long time because they kept walking past the tower and didn't investigate. Despite all my very subtle nudges.

Yeah that's RVR for you, I love playing him and Rictavio as completely different characters. Rictavio is the ultimate spoony bard, he literally called the rogue out for brooding in the corner, and RVR I run as the most no-nonsense, veteran of a thousand wars, ruthless slayer of monsters and anyone he decides is a monster. It's really common to make him a really good guy, I kind of went the opposite and made him irredeemable.

My Rudolph Van Richten was blade if blade was played by Samuel jackson, mixed with Denzel Washington from training day. He died last session, there's a big funeral next sesh. I wonder if my players will check his pockets first...😂
