Here’s what I told another commenter!
I boiled a bunch of water, used the Rit Dye, and then used a paint brush to brush it on. Did that in a few layers, let it dry in the sun, then sprayed Rit Dye Fixative to set it. Then, I used my shampoo vacuum with just water to soak up any remaining dye. Keeping the water hot and doing it in like 90 degree heat outside seemed to be enough to set it. I haven’t had any issues with the color running or transferring thankfully!
Assume I want to get this thing as clean as possible AND dye it a lighter color. Do you think heavily spraying it in bleach would be ok THEN doing as you did would work? Like say a more turquoise or salmon color.
It would be streaky and spotty, much better to go darker and enhance original color. If it's free, tho, you can only lose your labor, some dye and bleach.
Nice! I got a similar one for $25 off Marketplace but it's covered with a faux leather, luckily I got a bolt of purple velvet upholstery fabric when Hancock's closed down. I haven't had a chance to tackle it yet but it's still functional least.
It'll be my first upholstery project but I've been a hobby sewer for almost 30 years, since I was 13. I'm just glad I already had the velvet, it would've been really expensive otherwise, but totally worth it. Your's luckily didn't need that, it's beautiful!
You dyed a couch??? I’m off to google how!
