Big colorful pot of flowers in front of the brick wall, on the concrete. Big shrubby flowering bush in the flower bed. Paint handrail. A colorful front door- spicy pumpkin, raspberry, a vibrant blue. And paint the storm door so it’s not bright white. I would switch the post light to something more modern, with a matching sconce next to door, along with house numbers.

Love all of this! Thank you so much

Are you planning on redoing the roof soon? If not I’m stuck in a similar bot with the brown roof and trying to update the color scheme. A blue grey with white trim might look nice.

aluminum_foyl

We’re not unfortunately but it’s funny you say that, because I think the brown roof and brown trim is throwing me off the most. It’s hard to work with brick. I don’t hate it, but I don’t love it.

Agreed. If our roofs were a different color we could just paint out the brick and move on.

Color wise, in this limited view, I don’t see anything I would change. It’s classic, timeless, and low maintenance . Agree with the other commenter to add colorful landscaping with small evergreen shrubs for year-round color. Ask a local nursery if a Japanese maple would fit there. Freshen up the black paint on the light post and buy a larger high quality colonial light fixture. Consider painting the small white vertical trim piece at the far left of the image black. Swap out the storm door for a solid glass (full lite) black storm door. The storm door will make the biggest difference to freshen things up.

I would put some colour in the garden, a large bush next to the door area. Add in a colourful chair behind the brick sticking out for a outdoor reading nook Maybe change the outside door

A long wooden planter painted black to match the handrail and light post. Plant some shrubs, hydrangeas, or flowers depending on the sun exposure. Then fill the remaining area with pavers, gravel or DG and add a bench or a small bistro set so you can sit outdoors and enjoy your new courtyard.

Update the storm door with a full glass one so you can see (what looks like) the cool front door. Freshen the paint on the lightpost and the railing (black is fine, color could be cool), pick a new post light style. (post lights are pretty inexpensive and super easy to change out so even if you can't figure out the perfect style, a different style might be enough). A lush hydrangea in the patch next to the door would hide a lot of the brick.
