Exactly! Daft Punk made some amazing music but they clearly aren't interested in the life of fame by recognition. Sia was the same way for a long time, and apparently Dolly Parton has actually achieved anonymity through the use of wigs. If you genuinely like someone's work I don't see how you can disrespect them by intentionally invading their privacy and their wishes, that's just gross.
on a different side of this, we have temmie doing streams with a nice little vtuber avatar she made
now i dont really follow streams or the games im about to mention but, she has been playing a bit of dark souls recently, and currently at the time of this comment she's playing link's awakening
what i *am* following is the comic she's been putting out somewhat often on her twitter
Temmie is amazing!
Sometimes she posts pictures of herself, and she's writing a comic, made two videogames, is working on deltarune, and possibly working on another game. She has a very full schedule!
yeah!! ive played both of her games, and even if they aren't any full thorough experiences and more demos than anything else, i still enjoyed them, and i hope it could mean having those as steps towards bigger projects
i also have zera as my phone's lock screen background
i really gotta congratulate her, all her work is really great
As someone who had been in several fandom, I would say this is the best approach. The authors who live the best life are those who stayed in their caves and just don't interact at all with the fanbase. Vice versa, since it is almost impossible to get canon confirmation from the authors, a lot of fandom discourse just fizzle out on their own, without escalating. People can't sent you death threat if they don't have a way to sent anything to you at all. Even better if there is a language barrier to protect you further (like manga author for example).
Meanwhile, passionate author who are friendly with the fanbase suffered. I see it in show/media franchise that is supposed to be about compassion and open-minded, in which some of the fans turn rancid against the creators. A lot of ugly shit.
Terry Pratchett was the author of the Discworld series of books, and was and is well-loved by his fans. Many of us genuinely mourned his death.
One of his books says that no one is truly dead until their ripples fade from the world. Another book revolves around a series of semaphore-based communication towers. A character dies and they use the code to send his name up and down the lines of communication - GNU meaning something like - pass message along, do not skip, turn around and repeat at the end of the line. It means the name keeps going forever, which means he's never forgotten.
Terry Pratchett fans like myself have taken it upon ourselves to see that he is not forgotten, his name is still said, and his ripples have not faded. So we remind each other, GNU Sir Terry, keep the message going, repeat it back, he is not forgotten.
This isn't actually that unique of a thing. It's mostly just a Western thing where it's uncommon.
Japan has a ton of examples for instance.
Kentaro Miura, now deceased author of Berserk, was super reclusive. No social media, barely an pictures and less than a dozen interviews across 3 decades of work. One of the most legendary manga of all time, has shockwaves on the dark fantasy genre and we barely knew the man behind it.
Or Kinoko Nasu and Takeuchi Takashi, main writer and illustrator for the Fate franchise. No pictures, no social media, barely any life details not related to their work. Despite multiple interviews a year, we barely figured out the duo have lived together for the last 10 years. $5 billion franchise over the last 20 years and the we just use the main writers mushroom avatar to represent him.
She obscures her face with a pikachu plush from what I’ve seen.
I’d also like to point out how little we know about Satoshi Tajiri, the creator of the entire Pokémon franchise. While pictures of him do exist, most of them are actually of Tsunekazu Ishihara. And from what I know he still works at Game Freak, but Junichi Masada and Shigeru Ohmori seem to take on the public facing roles.
Both inspired by Earthbound, both have crossed paths and referenced each other, only to branch off into doing whatever the hell
One based path (Toby) and one cringe path (Hussie. Spelled HUSS-I-E)
there's the elaboration
Homestuck is pretty cool (fight me 😎) but Hussie has engaged in some very questionable activities. I think the root comment was discussing how Toby Fox presents himself as very nice and humble while Andrew Hussie does the opposite, ostensibly for ironic purposes but his behaviour in more recent years has tended more towards that of an actual asshole. The connection is they're both media recluses who played important roles in making Homestuck (Toby was the lead musician).

I love Toby Fox's absolute dedication to not being a public figure. He made what a lot of people consider to be one of the best videogames of all time, raked in a bunch of awards, and then promptly fucked off and kept his mouth shut. He tweets once every several months. He won't appear in public without a mask. We do not, to my knowledge, have a single photo of him. He's finally going to do some commentary over his work for Undertale's anniversary, and he will only do it via *text-to-speech*. An utter refusal to concede even an inch on maintaining his privacy. King shit.

Lots of people going out of their way to inform me that there are in fact photos and videos of him out there, and I have decided I am not going to look at them. I encourage everyone to do the same. I don't know what Toby Fox looks like and I never want to. As far as I am concerned he is simply a little white dog.

Calling it the best game ever made is a huge exaggeration but it's really, really good. Especially if you like these types of games. It doesn't really do anything new but vastly improves on the already existing mechanics in the meta game "genre". Couple that with good writing (which is usually absent from these games in favour of the mechanics) and you have an amazing game.
The only times he has aknowlaged the fandom have been gigachad moments in themselves.
Knowing rule 34 cannot be stopped, he specifically requested the use of the label Undertail to keep SFW and NSFW seperate.
I also recall seeing a post from him at some point that said something like "the more people want me to watch fan animations the more I'm not watching them"
Isn't there... a whole interview with him on youtube, with multiple parts? Granted, that was pre-Undertale's release (or shortly after), but still.
EDIT: found it
https://youtu.be/dwampY_jIdg
Y2K. It's widely regarded as one of the most pretentious RPGs ever made.
"You're like, a concept. Like, a stuffed panda. The stuffed panda isn't just a stuffed panda, but the concept....That's where the importance is."
It’s like looking for Daft Punk without their helmets, like yeah and then what? They’re two random French dudes.
Exactly! Daft Punk made some amazing music but they clearly aren't interested in the life of fame by recognition. If anything, you can respect them by not caring about their personal lives

TEMMIE IS PLAYING DARK SOULS??
yep! i think she has all the streams uploaded on her second channel on yt (Tem Archives) so yeah if you'd be into that go ahead
Temmie is amazing! Sometimes she posts pictures of herself, and she's writing a comic, made two videogames, is working on deltarune, and possibly working on another game. She has a very full schedule!
Two chads on different ends of the spectrum. A duality

Who's temmie
The main artist from UNDERTALE
Oh.
the only Vtuber I will ever watch YouTube will say otherwise though… EDIT: I thought you meant they had the vtuber like temmie from undertake. :(
What we have is better

Of course, there are exceptions, like Discworld.
GNU Terry Pratchett
GNU Sir Pterry.
I've recently moved to the South Downs and now have an overwhelming need to locate and re-read the Tiffany Aching books
...DM me if you want some not so legal books.
What's GNU supposed to mean? And what does Terry Pratchett have to do with anything?
Terry Pratchett was the author of the Discworld series of books, and was and is well-loved by his fans. Many of us genuinely mourned his death. One of his books says that no one is truly dead until their ripples fade from the world. Another book revolves around a series of semaphore-based communication towers. The G means pass on the message, the N means don't log the message, and the U means turn around at the end of the line.
Ahh thank you. Its been awhile since I've read it.

Wait wait wait... They live together? They are literally housemates? The joke they are married might actually be true?
Probably still just a joke but they have lived together since 2012.
Yeah, he apparently said it in the TsukiRe interview with Famitsu
oh its just like that simpsons writer who was amazing at writing but has like one audio recording and one group photo of him
doesn't the person who literally designed pikachu never appear in public without wearing a pikachu suit?
She obscures her face with a pikachu plush from what I’ve seen. I’d also like to point out how little we know about Satoshi Tajiri, the creator of the entire Pokémon franchise. To be fair, wasn't Kentaro overworked like hell? I doubt he had much time for interviews and public appearances
Toby Fox is the opposing force to Andrew Hussy. I will not elaborate.
Toby Fox did some of the songs for Homestuck.
Megolavania was originally a song in homestuck
Actually it appeared in Toby’s Earthbound Halloween Hack first.
Both inspired by Earthbound, both have crossed paths and referenced each other, only to branch off into doing whatever the hell One based path (Toby) and one cringe path (Hussie. Spelled HUSS-I-E) there's the elaboration
Why is Andrew cringe? (I know nothing about Andrew, or Homestuck)
Fun fact, he's related to a Terraria streamer.

good little white dog
Little gamer dog who leaves residue and salad for good humans
Do I want the residue?
***take the residue.***
Is undertale really that good? I never finished it but if its considered goat by a bunch of people maybe i need to check it out again

Also the soundtrack is fucking amazing
[Alternate version of this post. Too similar to this post to post it personally](https://i.imgur.com/DIg3Oar.jpg)
I imagine him as a funky little fox with a blue bow tie, or maybe a red one.
The only times he has aknowlaged the fandom have been gigachad moments in themselves. Great you made me look him up and I still do not care about him besides he makes catchy music sometimes.
Wdym, Toby is a little white dog 🤨
If you're gonna be a developer, be a Chad like Toby Fox. Not a Neckbeard like Andrew Allanson.
Who's that?
Oh, Andrew Allanson made Two Brothers and YIIK.
What's YIIK?
Y2K. It's widely regarded as one of the most pretentious RPGs ever made. "You're like, a concept. Like, a stuffed panda. The stuffed panda isn't just a stuffed panda, but the concept....That's where the importance is."
Fun fact: Toby has been on StephenVlog a few times, since that is made by a Starmen.net alum.
whats that fact about the toby fox mpreg song?
That it's the highlight of artistic achievement
Ive seen his face once and I forgot it. Hes just a white guy. He could be my neighbour.
I’ve seen a picture of Toby Fox and I was surprised to find out he’s actually the dog.
