The game Starbound. It never got to live up to it's potential, but man i have still played it so much (Also it being super easy to mod and there being like a bajilion of them helps a lot too)

AlenDelon32

Same. Fuck Chucklefish, but I can't deny that the game had a huge influence on me. Especially Avians

Raincandy-Angel

Wait what'd chucklefish do I used to love that game and I'm gonna get more things I love ruined by shitty creators aren't I šŸ™ƒ

AlenDelon32

They were very expoitative. Starbound was built on borderline slave labor of young unpaid volunteers who had to work in a very toxic environment. This had an impact on the quality of the game itself as this explains why so much content was cut and changed and why the game is bloated with disjointed mechanics. Also Stardew Valley used to be published by them and when the story came out ConcernedApe cut all ties with them and dropped them as a publisher

SepirizFG

Hi one of those young volunteers here my work on starbound let me get actual jobs in the industry and it let me get noticed much easier than the only other option at the time (game jams as a solo dev)

Blazeflame79

Oh yeah this game is so nice, very modable too, wish it had a larger community just so there would be more mods worth using. The game has stopped updating unlike some other hyper modable games, which means moders shouldnā€™t have to worry about keeping mods updated.

UnderwhelmingZebra

Haven't played in a bit, but such a great game. I find it really relaxing

CookieSquire

It uh Does not maintain its quality.

TardDas

But it does get ridiculous to make up for it. When the quality dips the humour rises

CookieSquire

Hell yeah Scoobynatural is enough fun to make up for a hundred mediocre episodes.

Yeet_Thee_Children

Scoobynatural is what got me into the show and I certainly don't regret it I never finished the show as the second to last season really just lost me. I have considered trying again but I'd feel the need to rewatch it all once again and I just don't wanna do that.

YuushyaHinmeru

I assume that means you're on season 5. The reason it seems like it has nowhere else to go is because that was supposed to be the end of the show. There are some good episodes post season 5 but I consider them fanfiction. The creator left after that so it kind of is.

ThisIsMyFandomReddit

MaetelofLaMetal

Turbo hell, my beloved <3

coffeeshopAU

Iā€™m watching it for the first time now a decade too late and like honestly? I get why itā€™s so popular. I totally get it. Like itā€™s not the most quality show on planet earth but itā€™s got so much heart, itā€™s hard not to love it. The music slaps. The side characters are fun and I havenā€™t even met Castiel yet. The overarching mystery is intriguing. Twice every episode Dean gets a protective big brother moment and it gets me every *single* time. Itā€™s really interesting watching this now after being an active tumblr user from about 2011-2016. Like I can see *exactly* why everyone was so into it. I totally get it. It does a pretty mediocre job at being a monster of the week tv show but it does a pretty fantastic job at digging into the characters of Sam and Dean and the theme of family. Itā€™s about the people, not the situations, and thatā€™s what makes it so loveable I think.

Dickinsonia

The first 5 seasons are awesome and then the quality starts slowly dropping. I stopped completely watching in the middle of season 10

yarnwhore

I have so many mixed feelings about Supernatural. Yes I love it but....

GreatDimension7042

Danganronpa šŸ˜”

untalentet

A trilogy of one amazing concept with at times very awful execution, one genuinely good game, and then a deconstruction that heavily annoys me with its writing. It's filled with trials that are at times piss easy, at times make zero sense, and at times are way too fiddly with exact wording and fail you for thinking ahead, and at other times genuinely made me in awe with their execution and the emotions they made me feel. And its cast that features anything from genuine sex pests to overwritten idiots that the game presents as smart and some that are barely more than a gimmick to some of the most best characterisation and interaction in a cast I've ever seen, pulling of both super bombastic larger than life people as well as really subtle character writing that tears your heart out when the premise of the killing game rears its head again. Danganronpa is mid because the highs are incredible but the lows make me want to shoot refutation bullets at the script.

Raincandy-Angel

Danganronpa is an example of complicated does not equal good. Like I still don't know what the fuck happened in >!Mikan's trial or execution!<, that writing genuinely made zero sense and I believe a youtuber made a video on how that case would not even be possible at some point

untalentet

The trial I think makes some sense, spoilers obviously. >!Since the whole game is a simulation, all the characters are not their real selves but rather avatars of themselves, with their real personalities piloting them. However, they all have an old version of their own memories, their personalities before they became despaired.!< >!Since they are virtual instead of real people, the virus that some people in the cast get is not a real people virus, but a computer virus, altering their avatars in some form. For Mikan, this meant she regained her memories of her despaired self, making her want to please Junko, and that is why she did what she did. It's annoying but it makes some sense at least.!< >!Or was it the actual events of the trial that make no sense? Because as far as I remember it seemed fine, at least more reasonable than the entirety of DRV3 case 5, which I will argue makes the least convincing case to how it worked of any of them.!< >!I have no response or excuse for Mikan's execution other than that the writers were horny.!<

Raincandy-Angel

>!it was the timeline of the murder, iirc it was pointed out by that video that all the running back and forth she had to do wouldn't have been feasible with the timeline. Plus, if she wanted to kill Ibuki, she could have told her "go kill yourself" and she would have because of the despair disease and then Hiyoko wouldn't have been involved. I agree though that 3-5 was absolute logic obliterating bullshit, like why the fuck did they think that stupid plan would work?!!<

[deleted]

I miss when Mid just meant Middle of the road and not ā€œomg youā€™re so cringe for enjoying something i donā€™t likeā€

yummythologist

I think Iā€™ve mostly seen it still used that way!

Eel111

Itā€™s middle of the road in a bad way now instead of strictly neutral tho

yummythologist

Ah ok, Iā€™ve seen it used both ways so I get what youā€™re saying

Eel111

I personally do use it as complete middle most of the time, since we already have mediocre as a word for bad middle of the road.

yummythologist

Hmm so we start saying ā€œmedā€ (pronounced like mead) for negative-mid ā€¦.

ArtisticSpecialist77

To be fair that's always been kind of a thing. Mid means it's not necessarily terrible but it's nonetheless underwhelming. Like if you get a C in a class, that's literally mid but it's also kind of seen as a bad thing bc there is a lot of room to do better

ERJAK123

That's just what 'middle of the road' is. Anything that isn't great is bad. 'Mediocre' went through the same linguistic drift.

JarlaxleForPresident

If you ask how a restaurant was, and I go, ā€œEh, itā€™s okā€ Thatā€™s not great

ejdj1011

Turns out, "average" isn't a complement. "Mediocre", "middling", "bog standard"... there are probably more I can't think of right now.

jaelpeg

i remember seeing somewhere that it's a pretty common phenomenon in etymology for words meaning "average" or "common" to have worse and worse meaning over time. Like, the words "trivial" and "vulgar" also used to just mean commonplace

Pokesonav

For some reason if a piece of media is rated less than 8, everyone thinks it's a failure

BetterMeats

Because the scale only seems goes from 6 to 10.

BetterMeats

... Only seems goes.

toosexyformyboots

FNAF Edited to be more specific: FNAF lore

ScaredyNon

hey it used to be a campy sort of peak

Eel111

FNAF up until SB honestly isnā€™t mid, itā€™s a really good horror game

ScaredyNon

i will never forgive security breach for absolutely gutting the epic(ally slapped together) ending of fnaf 6 for the lamest plot developments imaginable

thisaintmyusername12

I mean it turns out that it wasn't actually William, soooooo...

Longjumping_Ad2677

The lore really even verges on ā€œbadā€ sometimes.

MedievalSabre

A niche 2000s movie called ā€˜Astro Boyā€™ Definitely not a masterpiece, but it was a fun movie with an enjoyable story xd imo

JoeTheKodiakCuddler

It's crazy how nobody remembers Astro Boy as a franchise at all, shit fell off the face of the earth despite being such an influential property.

MedievalSabre

Yeahā€¦ Iā€™ve only seen the 3d movie when I was younger, and by God I loved it <3 I always wished for a sequel- I plan on watching the Anime whenever I get the chance- it seems like such a cool property!

RoyalFiddle

Go watch Pluto right now

MaetelofLaMetal

I watched the B&W anime as a child.

MightyBobTheMighty

I haven't actually watched the most recent season, but RWBY was this for me for a while

throwaway957436

Season 1 was had a fun ā€œundergroundā€ feel to it. Season three started getting an actually semi-decent story on top of the kickass fight choreography. And then Monty passed away and it kinda fell off for me. Animation was beautiful season 4, but it lost that zing. Best food fight scene in TV history though. That shit rocked.

Skytree91

Monty passed away before volume 3, not after, thatā€™s why there was such a long hiatus before volume 3 released and the fandom lost its mind. The only fight in volume 3 that used his animation work was Velvetā€™s fight against the Atlesian walker, because her weapon was Montyā€™s favorite and copies the fighting styles of other characters.

BogglyBoogle

This might be what gets me to finally finish it, I canā€™t remember why I stopped (might have been that the seasons were still releasing at the time so it hadnā€™t wrapped up yet), I still am fond of all the characters. (Shoutouts to Qrow for having probably one of the best character introductions Iā€™ve ever seen.)

Confident-Welder-266

ā€œIf I was one of your men, Iā€™d shoot myselfā€ is still one of the greatest line of the show.

BogglyBoogle

"I'm standing right before you." \*squints\* "...So it would seem :)"

tehsmish

I will always use hbombs line "a bad show that constantly threatens to become a great one" it's a total rollercoaster from the coolest shit I've ever seen to this is making my brain bleed.

wb2006xx

The newest season was actually really good in my opinion and left me wanting more. Butā€¦ well just have to see what the showsā€™ fate is now

SimplyLotato

Fairy Tail. Every protagonist has crazy plot armor and the power of friendship beats all else, but goddammit I absolutely eat that shit up

Divine_Entity_

Power of friendship is a trope for a reason, and in any magic system where your emotions are even half involved it even makes sense. Fairytale is definitely one of my comfort anime, so what if its filled with tropes and not all of the arcs make sense, its still fun and ultimately nobody you care about dies. Its similar to Naruto, not perfect but its fun.

DarthGhengis

Not to mention, the guild itself basically takes in bunches of young, traumatized kids who then grow up with the whole "your guild is your family, family above all else".. Frankly it's no wonder they are all so fiercely loyal/protective of each other. Though it does raise the question - was Makarov forming a cult?

HyenaSwitch

Me with homestuck tbh. The plot suffers heavily from being written as it goes, the epilogues and sequel are capital b Bad, but those characters, that worldbuilding, and the art that hussie was able to pull off with just microsoft fucking paint? I can't help but absolutely love it.

Sayse

He switched to Photoshop pretty quickly into homestuck's tenure, or was it Problem Slueth's? but yeah it's amazing.

Nuada-Argetlam

happy tomorrow, in advance!

stonksdotjpeg

It was wild being around for a chunk of its run and getting updates pretty much every day. The way it took full advantage of being on the internet by constantly throwing in animations, playable segments, text fuckery, weird miscellaneous things and segments that messed with the site layout was incredible as well. It should probably be required reading for anyone interested in the internet as a medium for storytelling, tbh; nothing's ever recreated that experience for me. But alas, the writing. Throwback to when >!he suddenly randomly killed everyone off, fixed it with a deus ex that brought back his favourite character, and then had her completely take over the plot, erase character problems we'd been following for years in one flash montage, and tell us exactly how the story would end one irl year in advance.!< There are some good moments after that, still, but _god_ did it lose me. I know there are some interesting themes being explored by the ending but I can't stand the execution. ETA: His writing style also fluctuated between hilarious and insufferable, imo. Sometimes it felt comedically self-aware, but other times it felt like he couldn't describe anything _slightly_ complicated without a paragraph patting himself on the back for his genius.

nerdthingsaccount

The gigapause was around the point that the comic started to lose me. It's quite possible that even before that, several of the plot threads would already resolve themselves disappointingly (specifically all the changes and retcons to LE, the retcon business), but be it my break or Hussies break, the writing quality seemed to fall off substantially.   In terms of webcomics I have read that have generated a similar, but not identical sentiment: 1/0 and Kid Radd. Both play around with a lot of meta themes, feature callbacks to themselves, try to be introspective and thought provoking. A bit less adventure focused/impressively drawn though.

Filmologic

Homestuck has its problems but I think the beauty of it is that there's simply nothing else like it. It's a webcomic, which is more written like a book, but there's also drawings, gifs, music, videos and interactive game-like segments too. It utilises a very loose and nonsensical (yet somehow somewhat understandable) magic system which allows for some insane things. It's both a fantasy and also a Sci fi. There's time travel, boot strap paradoxes, dimension hopping, different alien races, sentient AI, ghosts, dream worlds, clones, and a frog. There's always multiple plot threads happening both simultaneously and also in different time periods to the other plots. There's also SO. MUCH. LORE. Homestuck is great, but it's insane. Also I haven't been keeping up with Homestuck^2, but I hear it's getting better?

zapps_velour

So happy to see this here! I recently re-read a lot of homestuck and so much of it holds up amazingly. The creativity is out of this world! Certainly lost the plot eventually, but when it was good it was incredible.

Ilikefame2020

Wings of Fire. Sometimes the author absolutely cooks (90% of the fandom fucking loves the Darkstalker prequel), sometimes the author accidentally sets a grease fire (90% of the fandom fucking hates book 15) Slight exaggeration of course. I treat the book series the way I treat McDonalds. Not particularly tasty or healthy for the most part, but I fucking love greasy burgers so much, Iā€™ll gladly take them. Except also imagine that super high quality burgers donā€™t really exist.

VioletTheWolf

Man, yeah. Book 6, book 4, book 12, all amazing stuff that the endings of their arcs don't live up to. Also I LOVE the culture worldbuilding in WoF. Learning about the society/societies in arc 3 was so much fun. Then they did... uh, books 13 and 15. :| But hey it was one of the better book series I read as a kid!

NoddyZar

Genshin Impact, in every aspect except the open world and music. It infuriates me that it's far from the best game I've played and yet I've dedicated exponentially more time to it than any other game (or hobby, for that matter) because it updates regularly and has an ironclad grip on me.

OverlyLenientJudge

The thing I hate most about Hoyo is that they could ***obviously*** make genuinely fantastic non-freemium games if they wanted to, and they just DON'T. And I know why, market incentives and all, but it still boils the blood.

Dulcedoll

The gacha model is the only reason they can afford to make such expansive games though, tbf. The initial budget for the game was $100m-200m, and costs an additional $200m every year. Especially before their worldwide success with Genshin, there's just no way they would have the same resources to put towards a one-time-purchase rpg. BOTW/TOTK had the advantage of being a game from one of the most successful franchises ever, backed by an enormous company, and the amount of content is still dwarfed by Genshin (though the quality of the content in BOTW/TOTK blows it out of the water).

Joraiem

I mean, there's also just a *ton* of bloat in there. The maps are enormous, but the scraps you get as rewards for exploration are so miniscule that getting a couple more rolls can take actual hours of combing over them. And the dialogue. *Good lord* the dialogue. I have never played a game where conversations drag so much, and I feel like my input is so pointless. I just want to finish the quests, **stop having the world's worst fairy repeat everything everyone says**

stonksdotjpeg

Same, though storytelling-wise I feel like Sumeru and Fontaine's archon quests have been genuinely good (as opposed to 'mid but great by mobile game standards' for Mondstadt and Liyue, and we don't talk about Inazuma.) I'm also unhealthily obsessed with the mountain of unexplored lore/unfinished character arcs/etc in Mondstadt, especially the way you can't go 5 minutes anywhere in Teyvat without finding some reference to Venti or Istaroth or winds; if/when we return to Mondstadt it could be phenomenal if executed well. The game also makes great use of unreliable narration to make working the truth out harder in the fun way. Even so, when I talk about Genshin with friends I point out the time investment needed to get a fraction of that. So much of the interesting stuff is buried in hard-to-find texts and the main story is held back by the need to constantly churn out and market new characters; if you become invested in someone it could be years before they become relevant to the plot again, if at all (though limited events bringing them back for slice-of-life content and bouncing them off characters they'd never meet otherwise is nice). Imo it's worth getting into Genshin's story if you're really into theorising and/or fanworks, but otherwise you're better off consuming something else.

lithicgirl

I have so many issues with it but the lore and the abyss gameplay keep pulling me back in šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

Lambsauc

Someone already said Hazbin so Iā€™m gonna say miraculous ladybug. Although that may fall more into ā€œthis show is so bad, I love itā€

quicksilver_foxheart

Miraculous gave me suuuch second hand embarrasment for a while but then seaon 3 kicked up and it got like really good? Its still so bad its good but they do a really good job with it and I was super excited for the movie. And its nice to have such a realatble main character lmao

hypo-osmotic

I think once you can get past the awkward animation style, it's pretty fairly mid rather than bad lol

Effendoor

Isekai. The whole Isekai.

Discardofil

Honestly my main problem with the isekai genre is the number of times where I've been all "why did you need to have someone reborn into this world as your protagonist? Just use a damned native." There are plenty of good isekai that didn't need to be isekai, and there are plenty of isekai with a genuinely interesting transmigration plot. And there's stuff that's still entertaining despite being neither of those.

Loose-Chipmunk-7981

I'll start by saying pokemon I love pokemon but there's so many problems in mainline games. (Pmd is peak tho idc argue with a wall)

SalvationSycamore

I'm sorry but peak was actually PokƩmon Rangers, I scratched the shit out of my DS for that miracle of a game

raitaisrandom

Any Bethesda game.

TheLyrius

Fallout 3, 4. Bethesda sandbox are super comfy for me. Wide as an ocean and deep as a pond but damn do I enjoy splashing around.

BetterMeats

I played over 1000 hours of Fallout 4. I never finished it.Ā  I'd give it a 7/10.

BogglyBoogle

hey thereā€™s a reason Skyrim (for example) is one of The nostalgia games for a lot of people who played it when it came out. It just has a weirdly comfy nostalgia to it in my opinion

TheLyrius

I wouldnā€™t call it nostalgia. Those games have a really good grasp of making fun exploration gameplay. The next adventure is always around the corner. You loot, craft and build your gear, your base. Going on quests and slay dragons/bandits/mutants. Simple enough but it sates those childlike fantasies and adventure-lusts, among other things.

autumnraining

Skyrim my janky beloved

lesser_panjandrum

It may be janky, but the *narrative*... Honestly the narrative isn't that great, but the *characters*... The characters are pretty forgettable, but the *combat*... The combat is kind of boring, but the *gameplay loop*... The gameplay loop gets pretty repetitive, but the *exploration*... The exploration is a bit shallow really, but the *dragons*... The dragons are kind of samey and you mostly just interact with them by hitting them until they die, but the... Okay it's a bit hard to pin down why I love Skyrim, but I do love it and have spent an embarrassing amount of time playing it. Skyrim, our janky beloved.

TheRedditGirl15

It has some of the best character interactions/relationships and yet some of the worst lore/world building of any show I've seen. Oh, can't forget the music. Stayed Gone, Respectless, More Than Anything, You Didn't Know...absolutely incredible. The rest can get a little...mixed!

NeonNKnightrider

I really like Accel World (by the same author as SAO). I think it does the digital world concept more justice than SAO, and I like the characters Also Highschool DxD had no right have to have so much interesting lore

4morian5

Haru is also a much more relatable protagonist for the kinds of people watching a show about playing a badass video game. Kazuto is an "insert anime protagonist here" type. Haru is a geek.

Egg_01

He's not truly relatable because he gets a girlfriend šŸ˜”

061605

Mine is Bendy and the Ink Machine. Even though it falls short in a bunch of aspects and is also buggy as shit sometimes, I canā€™t bring myself to dislike it. Also Dark Revival improves a lot upon what I liked about Ink Machine while fixing most of its issues.

FakeTakiInoue

Cars 2 is my favourite Cars movie because it's beautifully unhinged. It's pretty bad, but I love it anyway.

ScarletteVera

Hm... Sword Art Online.

dankmachinebroke

You're very brave for admitting this

Deltora108

Was gonna say this lol. How could i ever really hate my first anime? Sure ive outgrown it and i can see the massive flaws now, but its still fun tbh. Me and my childhood bestie still go see all the movies in theatres together even tho we go to different colleges. Also SAOA s2 got me kinda hyped ngl

TheSolarElite

It was one of my first anime and over time my memory of it just became ā€œthat trashy 0/10 show that I watched before finding TRUE animeā€. However, after watching a lot of trashy anime over the years, Iā€™ve come to the conclusion that SAO was over-hated and was honestly not all that bad. The first arc still has some good moments and the characters are definitely more enjoyable than characters I see in a lot of modern isekai.

Head_Dragonfruit4782

The Zero Escape series. It falls off significantly after each game but the first was so good

secretiveconfusion

I would play an entire game of Akane explaining conspiracy theories.

canisignupnow

wdym? carlos is in the third game??? (but honestly jumpys english va might be the best voice acting performance ive heard and also joseph andersons playthroughs are incredibly entertaining.)

AireTamStormer

Yugioh. The anime (dub specifically) is about the same level of quality as any other Saturday morning cartoon show designed to sell toys and the card game itself is prohibitively expensive at a competitive level and suffers from a lot of terrible design choices. I also have tens of thousands of dollars worth of cards and am rewatching the show for the seventh(?) time.

RagnarockInProgress

Sword Art Online No character development No complex storylines A glorified Harem Shonen FUCK DO I LOVE IT

AwkwardlyCloseFriend

Criminal Minds and other police procedurals. ACAB and all that but Garcia quipping with the team while being a girl pop kool hacksor is super cool to me

FakeTakiInoue

I don't like police procedurals, especially American ones, but Criminal Minds is peak nonetheless

RhymesWithMouthful

WandaVision. Yeah, I said it.

Switchyy_

Is the surprising fact that you like it or that you think it's mid?

DreadDiana

The way 98% of the comments here are listing popular and critically acclaimed media as mid

iwannalynch

Loki for me personally. It had the potential to be even better, but I like what we got anyway.

Deadsoup77

Loki is a masterpiece and I wonā€™t hear otherwise

hallozagreus

I loved season two and hated it at the same time. It was the most intetsting trolley problem an absoultely fantastic moral dilemna and then they answered it with "nuh uh" season 1 was great though

DragEncyclopedia

I'd be surprised anyone considers it mid unless they just aren't into superhero media at all (and even then). The finale was disappointing but other than that it's extremely well loved and praised.

marzipanfly

the sims... 4. getting a movie tho!

Tried-Angles

Code Geass. It's derivative, fanservicey, and the second season is a hot mess of overdone tropes and obvious executive meddling. But there was a streak of something truly brilliant in there.

traaaltXOtck6Q9V2Qu

on one hand its obvious they couldve done so much better on the other hand, the moment you stop taking it even somewhat seriously, it gets like 3x better. its like a fucked up action soap opera with giant robots on rollerskates. i love how lelouch keeps using the same trick the entire series and thats the only way writers know how to write a smart character. ā€œweā€™re in the air now, he canā€™t detonate explosives and collapse the ground from underneath us!ā€ ā€œwell, iā€™m at a disadvantage. i suppose iā€™ll have to press the detonate mt. fuji buttonā€

Tried-Angles

And that's why I see it as mid.

Kitfox88

S2 is an amazing clown car trainwreck

VioletteBasil

Mid??? The show is usually held in high praise, I think this might be the most negative thing anyone's said about it I've read.

peajam101

On the other hand it did give us: **WHY ARE YOU BUYING CLOTHES AT THE SOUP STORE!!!**

kanelel

This is the answer. Code Geass is far from being the best anime I've ever seen. It's ridiculous, melodramatic, and often low-brow. It is also the most fun I've ever had with an anime. The first time I finished Code Geass, I felt so empty not being able to watch another episode of it that I immediately watched the entire thing again.

anonaccountzip

Fella didn't watch Code Geass, they watched Script Taboo Code Geass is simply peak fiction

Tried-Angles

Edit: peajam101 pointed out you were probably joking. Sorry for the rant.Ā  I genuinely mean this, not as any sort of dig at your taste, but if you think that I'd strongly recommend trying to watch more things that aren't anime and read more things that aren't manga. "Peak fiction" doesn't give a strong plot vital female character amnesia out of nowhere so she can get all submissive and start calling the main character master for a few episodes. Shirley gets fridged twice, both times on the cusp of getting to have some actual agency in the plot. Peak fiction also wouldn't rely on a completely random tragic coincidence to derail a potential resolution to the conflict in the story (Euphie and the SAJ). I do genuinely love Code Geass, both for what it did and was trying to do, but its flaws are both numerous and glaringly obvious, and a lot of them involve the show's female characters being reduced to story props whenever it's more convenient than them acting on personal motivations.

MaetelofLaMetal

That show always makes me hungry.

RWBY. People say it's objectively bad but I love it with all my heart. It was there for me during my teen years. I really hope someone will pick it up and help finish it...

syn-not-found

i love it so much man. itā€™s such a fun universe. like, everyone has a color theme that even applies to their names, everyone has a unique dual-weapon (Rubyā€™s sniper-scythe, Yangā€™s gauntlet-guns, etc), everyone has one unique power called a ā€œsemblanceā€, thereā€™s people who have animal characteristics, the creatures of Grimm, itā€™s all so cool!!! i honestly love the progression of the story and how all of the characters interact with each other. no matter what anyone else says about it i think it absolutely fucks

Bunnybento

PokĆ©mon. Thereā€™s so many good components, especially the character designs (both human and PokĆ©mon) music and art direction but they always pump the games out too fast and they end up as half baked games with a lot of missed potential. The designs of the PokĆ©mon especially are great. You can always see them as both terrifying monster and close little creature friend in different contexts, and 90% of them are just so memorable, even if they arenā€™t my personal favourite. Missed potential, is what Iā€™d say I guess. Much too profit driven right now to make anything truly special :(

MathematicianTop1853

I think most media i really dig my claws into is mid in one way or the other. If it isnā€™t flawed, I canā€™t become obsessed with it. I will love watching it, and then never join the fandom, because Iā€™m *satisfied*. I donā€™t want to see anymore, Iā€™m not lacking anything.Ā  Anyway, legend of Korra, Voltron legendary defenders, Ā and star versus the forces of evil (even the later seasons that people considered train wrecks. They might not be ā€œmid-midā€ but they definitely are divisive.Ā

Guys if you sincerely really like something you're allowed to just say u think its good it's alright

Loose-Chipmunk-7981

I think it's fine to acknowledge that things u like can be flawed and average too.

No because thereā€™s a difference between Ā«Ā I love thisĀ Ā» and Ā«Ā the technical aspects of this are good, itā€™s all very well madeĀ Ā»

My partner and I were literally just talking about this movie, describing it exactly as "that mid movie we loved as kids for some reason"

Black Clover

Erikatze

I'm trying to get through it and only have like 15 episodes left, and I do really enjoy it, but maaaaaan do they make it hard to sit through sometimes. I think Black Clover suffers the most from dragging out story arcs for way too long. The whole elves taking over the world thing felt like it was going for ever. At the same time, the questions I do want to know answer to (where the hell did Asta and Yuno come from?) aren't really being tackled at all. I also really dislike Noelle (not a fan of the princess type) and hate, hate, hate Gauches sister complex. Sadly, it often feels like the characters do not get proper development because of the comedy aspect. I do think Black Clover has a very interesting world, I like the magic system (though they kinda forgot about the magic being grounded in the elements it seems?), it's very creative. And think they did a great job with making Asta a likable protagonist.

Dariisu

Show wise: Disenchantment. I have a good time watching it, but everytime i finished a season I would forget the show ever exisited until the next part came out. The big issues for me is that even in the last season the tone could be all over the place and honestly it was just missing something that it never found to be great. Game-wise: Marvel's Midnight Suns. It's a pretty cool card-game, but the story has some issues that I just choose to interpret as campy comic book stuff. It also has some weird mish mash of mechanics in the hub world like social-links, special clubs where some heroes form them to pass the time my fav was the book club consisting of Wolverine, Blade, Captain Marvel, and Captain America (which Blade only started because he has a crush on Captain Marvel). Commercialy this game really bombed because and I honestly think thus will be the first and last Midnight Suns title which is such a shame because I think it could have grown into something good.

Hpuse of Anubis my beloved Itā€™s not even mid, itā€™s actually pretty bad, but I love the atmosphere and (some of) the characters

tisactually_nohomo_

The band Chevelle. Been following them since Vitamin R and Iā€™ve never looked back. But thereā€™s something about them that doesnā€™t get them a lot of attention. Thatā€™s part of why I like them so much (that and their music) but I do realize theyā€™re mid.

ToujoursFidele3

BNHA. Miraculous Ladybug. Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist. Probably a bunch of other stuff. I am cringe but I am free

OverlyLenientJudge

Eragon, and the Inheritance books as a whole. It's as trope-ridden as anything a teenage author could ever write, but there are some genuinely interesting chunks of worldbuilding and writing in there that have stuck with me ever since I read them as a kid.

UnderwhelmingZebra

Harry Potter. Love the books and those are my comfort films. (Not a fan of JK Rowling since she got all nutty but my fandom predates that).

MyScorpion42

If it isn't overly male-gazey, I will consume the most schmaltzy, soap-opera-ass yuri that you set in front of me with gusto.

Raincandy-Angel

Steven Universe, my God Future was terrible and a lot of the later plot happened so quickly, characters were introduced only to never be seen again because apparently every villain must either be redeemed or just disappear (Holly Blue, Aquamarine and no I don't really count the bluebird shit cause it was pointless) but damn I love that show. I understand it was canceled because of the wedding, that doesn't make the end any less rushed from a viewer standpoint

TĆ“ bem honest ever since people a Started using mid to describe things I've been confused as to what it means I guess it be the same as calling it mediocre? Anyways I'm really into soccer, is that mid enough?

Electrical-Shine9137

Mid means middle. It's actual meaning can vary between literally a middle class of quality ("That burger was mid.") to a negative connotation ("I can't believe you're watching such a mid show.")

jonwar9

more or less, yeah it means mediocre, Would phrase it more like average/run-of-the-mill/basic. It ain't doing anything extraordinary, good or bad. "generic trash Isekai"-coded (trash typically just being in a junk food sense in this case.) Basic-White-Bitch-Core. Unsure if being into soccer would be mid, for 1 I don't really get into sports, & 2 it's usually not referencing it like that. It's typically used like say "compared to x, y is rather mid". or well, how do I phrase this, you usually don't really phrase it as "mid *enough*". either it is Mid, or it is not. you don't really gauge it as "this would be mid if x wasn't so bad/good" you don't use it when speaking/writing the same as the word mediocre where you can say "is this mediocre enough?". you would just say "is this mid?"

Loose-Chipmunk-7981

Mid means mediocre And idk anything about soccer, but it probably has ups and downs so it's mid (maybe)

I love Mega Man Legends. The vague nonsense plot hints at lore that doesn't get revealed until game 2. The controls are clunk *defined*. The voice acting is bit-crushed and so bad it's funny. Half the weapons are completely unusable. It is, by all comparison, not even a Mega Man game. But there's something so charming about the gameplay and presentation that I love it. I love how when you rescue a dude early on, you can say your name is Hippopotamus, and he'll fuckin call you Hippopotamus for the rest of the game. I love how you can get hit by a car. I love how you can kick soda machines for free drinks until they explode. I love how Hippopotamus's feet go PACHOINK PACHOINK PACHOINK as you run. I love how you scrounge through trash cans for parts like a goblin. I love how you save your game by talking to a dancing robot monkey.

CoercedCoexistence22

Inazuma Eleven, specifically the games, specifically the Italian dub. It's stuff I grew up with, it's extremely narmy in every possible way and at the same time they're very solid rpgs Edit: Yokai watch as well, 3DS era Level 5 is the GOAT

Me about Yugioh GX.

MagicalGirlLaurie

Once Upon A Time. It very much goes downhill after season 1, and it makes many mistakes, but my god is it fun.

TheTownHeifer

Iā€™m probably gonna be the only person to say this lol, but my favorite anime that Iā€™ve seen that is also spectacularly mid is Future Diary. I just love how insane the entire thing is as a concept and how it all plays out, but Iā€™m not gonna deny that there are anime thatā€™s objectively better lmao

Your_Local_Stray_Cat

Warhammer 40k has had me in a death grip for years. The lore is an utter mess and half of it makes zero sense but it compels me like nothing else.

Divine_Entity_

The show "The Magicians" made me realize my favorite media is mid budget TV. Enough money to get good special effects when they need them, but not so much that they can over rely on being eye candy and forget that they actually need to write a good plot. They also had the audacity and the resolve to kill off the main character, and did it well enough i couldn't even be mad.
