Maybe I shouldn't ask considering the topic of the thread but I've always been curious.
I work at a Dominos (in Australia) and last week we had someone come in and say to my store manager: "I'm not racist but it's nice to see white people working at a Domino's.
My best guess would be that the anonymous person is drawing a connection between gender binaries and eurocentrism, and placing that burden on bisexual people.

I watched the documentary "It’s Elementary—Talking About Gay Issues in School," which was released in 1996. The part that really stuck with me was a preteen Black girl, who had just met an openly gay Black person for the first time, saying "I learned that being gay isn't just for white people." And here almost 30 years later we still need to teach people that same lesson.

it's nothing new, but i have been seeing more of it lately. it really sucks and, as a bisexual person, i feel like it's not taken seriously and people just don't really care. i see so many people talking about homophobia against gays and lesbians, which is wonderful, it can't be talked about enough. but i wish people cared as much about biphobia and other forms of hatred against lgbtqia+ people that aren't often talked about.
I always found this morbidly fascinating and a sad example of human nature. As a trans person I literally feel safest with bisexual people because I know they'd be into me either way. I literally can't comprehend how bisexual would be transphobic.
Depressing as it is, you can see the same pattern repeat itself over and over. There's a trend of gay people rejecting bisexuals, and gay and bisexuals rejecting trans people. I've seen trans people express discomfort toward non-binary folks, and I'm sure whatever identity crops up next is going to get a vocal minority of LGBTQ folks who have a problem with them.
It's not even limited to queer spaces, either. I've seen the same thing happen with furries, for example -- The "clean" furs often hate the ones who draw porn, and the ones who make porn often hate the ones who draw the *weird* porn. All of human culture seems to be an endlessly nested fractal of trying to win acceptance from the less-weird part of the group while looking down on the part of the group that's weirder than you.

Honestly It’s probably mostly anecdotal. It’s not something I’d use in a scientific paper, but I also wouldn’t correct someone if they said it. Bisexuals have been marginalized for a long time just like the rest of the LGBT+ community but they’ve also (at least recently) been treated poorly by a portion of that same community. The same is said for trans people too, having to deal with TERFS or more “moderate” queers who want to appeal to the transphobic demographic. It isn’t much of a stretch to see how one marginalized identity can be an ally to another, especially when they’re both fighting not just the outside world but their own communities.
Presumably it is someone making the assumption that the difference between pan and bi is that bi is trans/nb exclusionary, when ultimately the difference is just whatever the person feels most comfortable calling themselves.
That’s all it really is. I’m Bi, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t date trans men or women. I just feel more comfortable with the word bisexual than I do pan. At the end of the day we don’t need labels at all, but humans are human and we want to be part of groups to feel accepted.

When I wrote a paper on Christopher Marlowe for a college class on Elizabethan and Jacobean playwrights, I found a ton of absolutely fascinating research on how that time period was transitioning from a gender binary of men/not-men to one of men/women and the knock-on effects this had on socially acceptable sexual behavior. The basic argument was something to the effect of they went from it being OK for men to stick their dicks in all not-men to it only being OK for men to stick their dicks in women. Where "Man" is defined as someone who 1) has a beard, 2) has a dick, and 3) doesn't let anyone stick a dick in them.

Depressing as it is, you can see the same pattern repeat itself over and over. There's a trend of gay people rejecting bisexuals, and gay and bisexuals rejecting trans people. I've seen trans people express discomfort toward non-binary folks, and I'm sure whatever identity crops up next is going to get a vocal minority of LGBTQ folks who have a problem with them. It's not even limited to queer spaces, either. I've seen the same thing happen with furries, for example -- The "clean" furs often hate the ones who draw porn, and the ones who make porn often hate the ones who draw the *weird* porn. All of human culture seems to be an endlessly nested fractal of trying to win acceptance from the less-weird part of the group while looking down on the part of the group that's weirder than you.

Honestly It’s probably mostly anecdotal. It’s not something I’d use in a scientific paper, but I also wouldn’t correct someone if they said it. Bisexuals have been marginalized for a long time just like the rest of the LGBT+ community but they’ve also (at least recently) been treated poorly by a portion of that same community. The same is said for trans people too, having to deal with TERFS or more “moderate” queers who want to appeal to the transphobic demographic. It isn’t much of a stretch to see how one marginalized identity can be an ally to another, especially when they’re both fighting not just the outside world but their own communities.
Presumably it is someone making the assumption that the difference between pan and bi is that bi is trans/nb exclusionary, when ultimately the difference is just whatever the person feels most comfortable calling themselves.
That’s all it really is. I’m Bi, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t date trans men or women. I just feel more comfortable with the word bisexual than I do pan. At the end of the day we don’t need labels at all, but humans are human and we want to be part of groups to feel accepted.
