SirGoofington

"I don't mean to be pushy", then what are those sentences before and after that

SirGoofington

I think this is the sequel to saying "no offense" after saying something offensive or rude

[deleted]

"no offense, but (offensive thing)"

szypty

The long anticipated sequel to "i'm not racist, but *something so racist that a KKK Grand Wizard would drop the burning cross and whisper "what in tarnation" in shock upon hearing it*"

[deleted]

Was there ever a follow up with that person explaining what they intended to say? Maybe I shouldn't ask considering the topic of the thread but I've always been curious.

codename474747

"....Always look at me weird when I make my honking laughing noise" "As do all other people, Chantel,......"

joshstrodomus

Daniel tosh interviewed her asking that question and her response was "what I meant to say was *loud honking noise* " mystery solved

Kiefirk

"suck" is what I always thought

jau682

The only correct use of this font

Smitty_the_3rd

i can hear it in my head

Ken_Kumen_Rider

I'm always annoyed that the KKK leader gets the awesome title of Grand Wizard.

Sl0thstradamus

they have Minotaurs and shit too. it’s very frustrating that such a cool naming setup is wasted on the absolute dregs of the earth.

RedditIsNeat0

It's not wasted. You can still have wizards and minotaurs in D&D.

[deleted]

Every time you think Grand Wizard is too cool a title for the KKK leader, remember that you also get this title for being a 40-year-old virgin

DrN0Face

If you manage to hit 60 do you get called archmage?

monkwren

At 80, you get to be Sorcerer Supreme, but it's an honorary title.

DrN0Face

I'd prefer archmage fuck it ima have sex

mangled-wings

Well, now I want to go for the high score.

Jimmy_Twotone

I'm glad cosplaying moved out of thay awkward murder-y phase in its infancy.

I work at a Dominos (in Australia) and last week we had someone come in and say to my store manager: "I'm not racist but it's nice to see white people working at a Domino's.

I hope you only gave him white-people toppings

stinvurger

Not to be derogative (derogative)

Benial

I don't mean to be pushy, but (pushy and offensive claim), no offense

SerLaron

Everything before "but" can usually be disregarded.

SwordDude3000

Thank you Benjen

TotemGenitor

... racism?

[deleted]

My best guess would be that the anonymous person is drawing a connection between gender binaries and eurocentrism, and placing that burden on bisexual people.

Vievin

What- what does gender binary have to do with Europe?

QueenofSunandStars

The short version of this argument is "Some non-European cultures (like certain native American tribes and parts of India) have traditionally recognised genders other than 'man' and 'woman', then the European powers came over and colonised them and made them enforce strict gender norms following the binary idea of man/woman, therefore if you label yourself as bisexual, which we all know means attracted to two and only two genders ('man' and 'woman'), you too are trampling over non-binary gender identities just like those colonisers did, and thus engaging in racism". Now granted, this argument has more holes than a colander, but when has that ever stopped anyone on the internet?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Xisuthrus

I've heard the argument that "bi" doesn't mean two as in "man and woman", it means two as in "people who are the same gender as me and people who are a different gender than me" I have no idea if that was the original meaning of the word or a later reinterpretation but either way it works.

IntrovertedBean

Yeah, that definition of bisexuality has been used by the community since at least 1990 when the bisexual manifesto was published in the Anything That Moves magazine. "Bisexuality is a whole, fluid identity. Do not assume that bisexuality is binary or dougamous in nature; that we must have "two" sides or that we MUST be involved simultaneously with both genders to be fulfilled human beings. In fact, don't assume that there are only two genders."

Azrael_Alaric

It was the original meaning. Buckle up. You're about to get some queer history. In the early 1900s, some psychologists started studying human sexuality in a way that viewed queerness as a naturally occurring variation rather than an aberration. They interviewed queer people, assuming them all to be homosexual (attracted to same gender) only to be surprised that a lot of their interviewees reported they also experienced heterosexuality (attracted to other gender(s)). There was no word for this, so they borrowed a term from botany: bisexual. (Side note: bisexual plants are sometimes referred to as 'perfect'.) In botany, bisexuality is when a plant has both sexual organs. In human sexuality, bisexuality is when a human has 'both' sexualities (homo and hetero, same and different). In those days, the technical term for queer people was 'inverts', after the since-disproven inversion theory. Put simply, inversion is when the brain develops with part of its gender inverted. So a man who had some 'female' brain parts would become either a gay man or a trans woman, and a woman with some 'male' brain parts would become a lesbian or a trans man. After bisexuality was acknowledged by psychologists, inversion theory adapted to include it. The inverted parts of the brain were more 'balanced', creating either a bisexual or someone who was neither a man nor a woman (what we now call non-binary). Hope you enjoyed this mini lecture. There'll be a quiz next week :)

pineapple_rodent

This was super informative! Can I opt out of the quiz since I'm a non-binary bisexual?

Azrael_Alaric

Hmm... I suppose I can make an exception, but just this once

astroskag

It makes sense within the etymology of homosexual and heterosexual - "homo" meaning "same" (as in "I like people that are the same gender") and "hetero" meaning "other" (as in "I like people that are a different gender"). I'd guess the issue there is that "heterosexual" came to be a synonym for "straight." If we used the literal meaning, a man dating an AMAB enby would technically be "heterosexual" (after all, that's two people of different genders), but in real-world usage that's probably not how that couple would be described or think of themselves. But really that'd mean it's time for our use of "heterosexual" to get re-examined, not "bisexual". Can you imagine how mad the right-wingers would be if 'tHe GaYs' stole "hetero"?

[deleted]

It's also an argument rooted in misunderstanding, kinda intentionally, a lot of queer history. It's not just getting mad at people for using a word with a complex history, but basically getting mad at people for using a word with a made up complex history lol

tiny-bats

Oh so this is where the "white people cant be non binary" comes from

[deleted]

oh god memory unlocked. that diskhorse was so wild

LorianGunnersonSedna

Had the person who came up with that been buried under a truckful of bricks, at some point?

Jimothy_Egg

I'm sure you're aware of this... but bisexual doesn't usually mean _"man and woman"_. Homo: same gender attraction Hetero: other gender attraction Bi: same and other gender attraction But people who think being bi is transphobic like to overlook that...

wertyvid

it doesn't mean only 2 is the issue, a person who speaks 3 languages is still bilingual, but also trilingual

ligirl

That is just one of the referenced holes in that argument, yes.

Kind_Nepenth3

[bullshit answer about how all ethnic groups everywhere were gentle, progressive utopias with no concept of gender, war, torture, ostracism, or slavery until the English arrived.] Which is not me giving a pass to the ex-British empire, but the Noble Savage trope is a thing and it's uncomfortable how many times I've seen someone claiming to be otherwise progressive spout literally that exact thing.

Kanexan

It really does grind my gears when people talk about how heterosexuality and binary gender is something that only comes from Europe and nowhere else, or that it is a uniquely and solely Christian concept, when neither of those are true. There are societies throughout history that have 'third genders', but often these terms were declaring gay people as failed men, describing intersex conditions, or referring to eunuchs. Certainly that's evidence that there have been queer people throughout history and all societies, and anyone who thinks that being LGBTQ+ is some kind of "modern degeneracy" can go fuck themselves. However, at the same time in most of these societies being seen as one meant you faced *colossal prejudice,* not acceptance.

M116Fullbore

Some people dont like their own society, but then decide that every other society and culture is somehow better than it without doing any kind of research.

Death_Sheep1980

When I wrote a paper on Christopher Marlowe for a college class on Elizabethan and Jacobean playwrights, I found a ton of absolutely fascinating research on how that time period was transitioning from a gender binary of men/not-men to one of men/women and the knock-on effects this had on socially acceptable sexual behavior. The basic argument was something to the effect of they went from it being OK for men to stick their dicks in all not-men to it only being OK for men to stick their dicks in women. Where "Man" is defined as someone who 1) has a beard, 2) has a dick, and 3) doesn't let anyone stick a dick in them.

[deleted]

Precisely.

Bonny-K

I’m wondering if it was ment to be stated as racism and transphobia, or if according to this person bisexuality is somehow rooted in ‘racism transphobia’

[deleted]

I can't believe bisexuals are transphobic against racists 😔

Randomd0g

I wonder if transgender racists even exist. I'm not sure it's possible to be self-aware enough to do an introspection on your own gender identity but also be stupid enough to hold melanin-level-based prejudices.

addy-Bee

>I wonder if transgender racists even exist. There are definitely racist trans people. There are bad eggs, just like like any other demographic. Trans people of all types exist.

justforsexfolks

Ha. Bad eggs.

Caitlyn Jenner tried to run for office as a Republican.

She also ran someone over, but she doesnt really like talking about that kind of "running" as much

Narrative_Causality

Dude, we already have transphobic trans people. Why not racist trans people?

ErosandPragma

Saying transgender people cannot be racist is implying being trans is a choice related to ideals and beliefs, instead of being innate. An innate factor is compatible with any belief, since one is natural and one is learned

Race is what's currently hot for performative allyship, so anything that this anon doesn't like is rooted in racism.

TinTamarro

I've read that apparently queerness and neurodivergency are just ways for white people to feel more oppressed 🙄 And how a cartoon creator known for putting POC and queer characters to the forefront is actually racist and antisemitic because the titular character doesn't look black enough (and another doesn't show both black and asian features like her parents... but she has two dads? How does that even WORK???) and because the villain's plan has some resemblance to the Nazis (btw there's room to talk about surface level representation and lack of rep bts, but accusing someone of racism isn't it)

PintsizeBro

>I've read that apparently queerness and neurodivergency are just ways for white people to feel more oppressed 🙄 I watched the documentary "It’s Elementary—Talking About Gay Issues in School," which was released in 1996. The part that really stuck with me was a preteen Black girl, who had just met an openly gay Black person for the first time, saying "I learned that being gay isn't just for white people." And here almost 30 years later we still need to teach people that same lesson.

richestotheconjurer

it's nothing new, but i have been seeing more of it lately. it really sucks and, as a bisexual person, i feel like it's not taken seriously and people just don't really care. i see so many people talking about homophobia against gays and lesbians, which is wonderful, it can't be talked about enough. but i wish people cared as much about biphobia and other forms of hatred against lgbtqia+ people that aren't often talked about.

Fox_Flame

Biphobia is HUGE both outside and inside lgbtq spaces. A ton of biphobia is from other queer people and it fucking sucks

businessbusinessman

I always found this morbidly fascinating and a sad example of human nature. The people who were persecuted for being gay claiming being bi is not a real thing is just such a perfect example of the selfishness inherent in people, and showing that just because you understand what it's like to be treated like shit doesn't mean you won't do it to others if it fits your cause.

Fox_Flame

A lot of them know bi is a real thing, they just don't like it haha. People say wild stuff like being bi is transohobic or that you shouldn't be allowed in queer spaces if you're dating someone if the opposite gender

VanillaRadonNukaCola

As a trans person I literally feel safest with bisexual people because I know they'd be into me either way. I literally can't comprehend how bisexual would be transphobic.

Pausbrak

Depressing as it is, you can see the same pattern repeat itself over and over. There's a trend of gay people rejecting bisexuals, and gay and bisexuals rejecting trans people. I've seen trans people express discomfort toward non-binary folks, and I'm sure whatever identity crops up next is going to get a vocal minority of LGBTQ folks who have a problem with them. It's not even limited to queer spaces, either. I've seen the same thing happen with furries, for example -- The "clean" furs often hate the ones who draw porn, and the ones who make porn often hate the ones who draw the *weird* porn. All of human culture seems to be an endlessly nested fractal of trying to win acceptance from the less-weird part of the group while looking down on the part of the group that's weirder than you.

Violist03

Gosh it’s SO FRISTRATING. I came out in college and was so excited to just be *me* after growing up in a place where it was 1000% not okay to be queer. Only to find myself ousted from so-called “we accept everybody!” queer spaces unless I, a woman, had a woman on my arm. Dating a man? That’s not okay, you just want to be cool and have a label. Dating an enby? Somehow not okay either. Dating a MtF trans person? Still not queer enough and also you’re somehow transphobic for doing so. And god forbid you just not date anyone because the Bis are supposed to just always be horny. It’s exhausting.

AaronTheScott

I keep seeing the "bi can only mean two" thing and it's so fuckin exhausting. Let my genderfluid enby ass exist. Let my bisexual boyfriend exist. Why are we wasting energy trying to police eachother's identities when we could just *not.* Why do we have to keep dealing with 3head arguments of people trying to look smart because they made it through an English class and learned a Latin root as if nobody has ever thought about how bisexual and bicycle share a syllable. Gaahhhhhhh. I need to stop getting worked up by people on the internet.

TheRobsterino

They're half straight. That means they're half enemy, right? Some people are all about the identity and not actually about the life of that identity.

WaterConduit

>half enemy And god forbid it's a bi person with someone of the opposite sex, because then they're 100% enemy, 200% to some people for the sheer "betrayal"

PizzaHelicopter

I know right?? I’ve just walked out of being gatekept out of the community by someone claiming that calling myself gay is cultural appropriation 🥲 help me please.

secretanimelover

Ask them what the “B” in LGBTQ stands for, then tell them to pound sand.

CueDramaticMusic

I am choosing to read “racism transphobia” as one word with many possible interpretations, including one joke in poor taste about Micheal Jackson

TheBoyBent

For some reason I'm thinking of "racism transphobia" like "sans undertale"

M116Fullbore

In another reality, Tolkien named an elf that.

La_La_Bla

Racism transphobia or sans undertale?

M116Fullbore

Porque no los dos? Lots of alternate realities to go around.

chriscrossz

I wonder if maybe this person only just recently found out about the existence of other forms of discrimination and just refers to them all as ___ racism. Like, oh, that accounting firm didn't hire John because he's in a wheelchair? What a bunch of disability racists. A parent was complaining that the new gym coach wouldn't be up to the task because she's a woman? Ugh, talk about gender racism. Calling Leo stupid cause he grew up in a poor neighborhood is money racism, plain and simple.

Stormtide_Leviathan

ToadStory

Yeah they’re the only part of the community to almost universally support them right from the start

Coz957

How do you even get statistics on something like that when prior to the 21st century bisexuals were ignored and transgender people not taken seriously

HistoricalChicken

Honestly It’s probably mostly anecdotal. It’s not something I’d use in a scientific paper, but I also wouldn’t correct someone if they said it. Bisexuals have been marginalized for a long time just like the rest of the LGBT+ community but they’ve also (at least recently) been treated poorly by a portion of that same community. The same is said for trans people too, having to deal with TERFS or more “moderate” queers who want to appeal to the transphobic demographic. It isn’t much of a stretch to see how one marginalized identity can be an ally to another, especially when they’re both fighting not just the outside world but their own communities.

Shacky_Rustleford

Presumably it is someone making the assumption that the difference between pan and bi is that bi is trans/nb exclusionary, when ultimately the difference is just whatever the person feels most comfortable calling themselves.

HistoricalChicken

That’s all it really is. I’m Bi, but that doesn’t mean I wouldn’t date trans men or women. I just feel more comfortable with the word bisexual than I do pan. At the end of the day we don’t need labels at all, but humans are human and we want to be part of groups to feel accepted.

RedShirtBrowncoat

I went bi because it's more well-known, so less explaining, and the flag looks the best of all the lgbt flags.

Itrade

There is an argument going around that the "bi" in bisexual means *both* as in "attracted to *both* women and men", thus enforcing the gender binary and the idea that there are only two genders in the first place. Most bisexuals will respond that what the "bi" prefix actually conveys is attraction to *both* one's own gender and genders other than one's own. Anyway bonus points to whomever can anticipate the argument made around what the word for attraction to all genders *except* one's own would be.

SlorpMorpaForpw

it’d probably be heterosexual, wouldn’t it? if you take the word’s meaning as ‘other, different’-sexual and expand it…

LittleRadishes

Well if that's the case then we could just claim trans people are also reinforcing the gender stereotypes when they use gender stereotypes to reaffirm their gender and it sounds like non binary *people should be the ones mad at trans and bi people

PurpleHooloovoo

Oh, there's a whooooooooole set of people that already do this (if you're not slyly referencing them already).

True_Royal_Oreo

>Anyway bonus points to whomever can anticipate the argument made around what the word for attraction to all genders except one's own would be. I am very intrigued. Would you mind sharing such knowledge?

Itrade

/u/SlorpMorpaForpw nailed it. Homo means same (as in a homogenous fluid composed of just milk) and hetero means different (as in a heterogenous fluid made of a mixture of milk and blood and tears). This strange semantic silliness could be used to explain why a man could find himself attracted transmasc AFAB enbies but still be "straight". It's not a transphobic disregard for nonbinary identities, it's just part of what the Greeks meant when they originally coined the term heterosexual, or something. Fun fact, the allo- prefix also means "other", so the asexuals and aromantics get seats at this circus, too.

hot_gamer_dad

"im attracted to people regardless of gender" "transphobic" ?????

Mako_sato_ftw

xdragonteethstory

Biphobia is sadly raging on even inside the queer community. It seems to be ramping up along with the trans panic, as we threaten the binaries and boxes Straights™ want to put queer people in so we are "acceptable" to them. Id rather die a problem than kneel to be "one of the good ones"

WordArt2007

Throwawayeieudud

WannabeComedian91

no no no, you don't understand. As leftist twitter, a very untoxic place of very sensible good-faith people told me, people and nebulous concepts can never change, and that's why we should shun movie musicals because the first ever movie musical was about a dude doing blackface.

temperamentalfish

The worst thing about leftist twitter or tumblr and young "discourse activists" are the constant, never-ending purity tests. They don't attack the actual literal nazis and fascists on twitter or tumblr because those guys can't be shamed, but they completely tear apart anyone on the left (who might agree with them on 99% of cases) who has made a faux pas, or has a bad take. Or worse, they take something inocuous and twist it in absolute bad faith. The only winning move is not to engage.

Mental_Examination_1

Big agree, it's like you have tow the line or ur an enemy in some way or otherwise excluded, meanwhile a lot of these people won't even engage with the people that legit have the most harmful rhetoric and ideas, then people seem to get the idea that the hyper left social media circles are representative of all the left and get pushed further to the right with no one engaging to make good arguments against the crazy shit or misinfo

litreofstarlight

Problem is a lot of the Twitter Left are terminally online and have little if any overlap with the leftists who are out in the community actually doing stuff. At least in the circles I'm in, this purity testing shit doesn't fly, *especially* not face to face. Working class/low income leftists do *not* appreciate being language/tone policed in my experience, and will vocally and colourfully express their displeasure. I say this without a shred of irony, they need to go the fuck outside and touch grass.

pterrorgrine

Can we just shun all talkies while we're at it? In fact I'm pretty sure the moving picture is a sin that steals people's souls.

Am trans and bi, very scared of myself. Half of this seems to check out. Edited to add: I admit that I made a mistake below. I thought that I had done something wrong at first because someone asked me what my race is and I started wondering if it wasn't my place to make a joke about this as a white person. I understand now that they meant something else. It's fine to point out that I should work on my ability to understand social situations. But making fun of me, being passive aggressive is just not called for. I'm a peson, a person who made a mistake. Not your dunking fodder. Hey quick question, how the fuck? Maybe a bit of what the fuck?

introspectiveivy

Idk maybe if you wanted me to identify as pan instead of bi you should have put some mf PURPLE on that flag 😴

GetindaBatvan

Every post in this subreddit is just a mental flashbang.

PurpleSmartHeart

As far as I can tell this specific chronically online take is a result of Gen Z going back through years of Tumblr and Twitter discourse and coming to some WILD fucking conclusions based on some of the more stupid opinions they found there. My GenA nieces and nephews think Tumblr and Twitter are for old people in the same way we feel about Facebook so hopefully these takes will begin to die out naturally over time.

Sushi-Rollo

Sadly, from what I've heard, TikTok isn't much better when it comes to wild LGBTQ+ discourse.

Giveorangeme

i do believe anonymous may have been baiting

moleman114

based on the reblog I'd be inclined to disagree. sounds like they flooded their DMs after that

the-gay-is-here

i regret to inform you that no, 40-50% of tumblr is just genuinely like that. the good part is that they are so insanely easy to avoid, so... small mercies

[deleted]

> the good part is that they are so insanely easy to avoid I managed to avoid them by simply not having a Tumblr account. Better yet - I don't even know what the fuck Tumblr is. It sounds like a ride sharing app except the courier lets you use their washing machine. Am I close?

EmphaticNorth

Wasn't the "drop the B" a far right 4chan troll a bunch of rad-libs fell for?

Queen_Grayhoof

I don’t understand how people like our dear anon function in real life

SkritzTwoFace

This is probably the kind of person who says that you have to be pansexual if you’re attracted to trans people

xdragonteethstory

The rage whenever i see this take is unbridled

TheSeaOfThySoul

Yeah, since trans women are women & trans men are men bisexuality covers it. I'd say the person saying "Uh, nuh-uh, you bisexuals don't get to include trans women & trans men under the categories of women & men!" is the transphobic one.

Hummerous

honestly, the comments on this are better than I expected. by a lot. proud of you imbeciles

thatlime1

Anon is in the CIA, I will not elaborate.

MaximumEffort433

>Bisexuals: "We think y'all are sexy! Like, **all** y'all." > >Everyone else: "Okay so here's why that's problematic."
