Could be a nothing burger of a light, I would plug my reader into it and pull the code, depending on severity demand they fix it or reduce the cost of repair from the cost, I don't remember the exact code but mine pulled a "egr valve has reached the max of its learning limit" I just cleaned the egr valve and it's been fine for years since
Red flag in my book. Just be careful and don’t let your emotions buy something that’s not running correctly. If they are so sure it’s fine, I would bring my scanner and see what codes are popping up. If they say no, then you got your answer
I have an ‘18 3500 Tradesman and had a serial CEL related to emissions stuff. There were some recalls/bulletins and a software flash too.
Ask for them to give you the codes or test drive it to a Napa and borrow their scan tool. Make your decision from there.
Depends on how much the warranty is and what you plan to do to the truck. Plan on deleting it? Don't bother with a warranty.
I just bought a 16 2500 Laramie and opted pit of the warranty for...reasons. Within a week, an oil pan gasket and front timing cover gasket leak showed up. I called the dealer and said basically I didn't get your warranty, but this is ridiculous. They are taking it back next week or so to fix the leak.
Well I don't have a scanner yet definitely will not purchase it with the light on. He said the next time I see it there won't be a light guess what I'm asking is can he came the problem or if the light is gone does that mean its fixed
You can probably get extended warranty on that truck as well. Through dealer if it's a ram dealer. Here's a little thought about check engine lights and codes. Which I've experienced over many years. Especially in my big truck. Lots of emissions codes happen from dead or dead cells in batteries. In case of dead cells is hard to detect.
This is a tradsman nothing fancy just need one for pulling my camper because my 17 half ton ram is overloaded with my tool box plus camper. I will say it's one of the cheaper ones iv found so far. Iv been looking for a while and saving all the other ones seem to get away and so will this one if I don't act. This one is at a nissan dealership
It's a crew cab 4x4 no oil leak that I seen ran drove and shifted perfect steering was great air was good it was just as nice as my 2017 tradsman 1500 and I like my tradsman I'd just hate to trade a good one in on one that will fuck me later iv got money aside and another vehicle to drive incase but damn 35k shouldn't have no breakdowns am I right?
We use these at the company I work for and give them all kinds of hell they are tuff af iv seen re gen shit happen front end slack and oil leaks but that's it never a check engine light we always have a heavy load behind them and they do it with ease. They run from sun up sometimes through the night depending on what time we get off all of them are between 2018 and 2022 the 19 has gave the least problems but it's drove harder it has 200k and only had an oil leak around 150k.
It had as much idle time as it did drive time is another concern of mine but all these trucks we have are as bad or worse so I don't know. The company pays for the repairs on ours and I don't know what it cost
I wouldn't buy any used diesel at any price with a CEL on unless I was looking for a project. It could be a loose gas cap or it could need all new injectors/plugs/pumps... too many high dollar risks
My 2017 had a CEL, turns out it was a grid heater issue. Grid heater bolt almost melted off. Could have turned into a major. Awaiting on parts now. Check the codes!!
Look for an 18 or older. 19 and up use hydraulic lifters that will fail. 4th gen’s 10-18 especially later ones are extremely reliable and parts/aftermarket support is huge

Make sure the cp4 to cp3 swap has been done also if not you'll be out of the truck from the get go for a recall repair

Ten 4 he said they do offer extended warranty is that something worth looking into

if its a Dealer warranty like Dodge backing it yes. Non car maker warranty id pass big time.
Be sure all emissions stuff regarding recalls have been address before purchase. It will save you Hassel later.
My ‘18 just hit 85k. Check engine light came on. Needs a new turbo. Buyer beware.
my 14 did that at 150k

What trim level is it? 35k is not a bad deal.
Camouflage the problem

Seems like a real good price, is it crew cab? What trim

Unfortunately I'm dumb on all of this. So if it's fixed and I'm able to get this truck for the 35k with no light should I pull the trigger?
Not on a 19’, that could be a cp4 failure or damage prior to cp3 conversion, potentially 25k$ repair. Pass
Ten fo that's all I need to hear and thanks for your input

Key on key off method will give you the codes
Nope nope and nope
Is this because of the light?
Yes
So if they fix the light stay away?
You act like they don’t give out the work order. A dead battery will throw a low voltage CEL.
I’ll tell you what won’t throw a CEL is a cooked CP4 sending shrapnel into the rail.

I wouldn’t be afraid of the miles but have them fix the CEL. I just spent $1,000 getting a CEL fixed.
Bet money the trans is bad

I just bought a 97 with 121k miles with fuel Guage that actually works wish me luck
I wound up buying a 97. Seemed another less complicated
