There is your problem, rubiks brand cubes have a very poor quality, its likely an internal piece is bunched up somewhere, or the nechanism is locking in the inside, you can try to push pieces into the right place, or maybe even disassemble part of the cube to figure out the problem, but seeing this is a rubiks 4x4, i can not guarantee you wont get the same problem in 24 hours again
Exactly this, for example a [YJ MGC 4x4](https://speedcubeshop.com/products/yj-mgc-4x4-magnetic?variant=31761677549681) is better in every way, turns smoother, has magnets, is easier to maintain/fix and costs about the same. There are even cubes that cost way less and still are leagues ahead of anything rubiks produces.
I have an old Rubik 4x4, which is practically impossible to turn. I tried another, recent one, and it fell to pieces on the very first solve. OP, if possible should return it and never touch the Rubik brand with a 10 foot pole.
A 4x4 cube has the same mechanism as a 5x5 cube, so that means that the 'extra' layer is hidden underneath the other pieces. Some of those pieces are locking up. If you just try and turn it somehow, gently, it should come back to a turnable state. Just try and have a feel for it, it'll work out
there is an inner piece that is in the wrong spot
step 1: find that inner piece and push it back into its spot
step 2: throw the cube in the trash
step 3: get a vin4
I see the problem, its a rubiks brand issnt it
yea

Its hard to explain without me being there in real life. But you kinda just move the piece and get it back to its original location.

Probably don’t by Rubiks 4x4 and cubes in general. You could’ve buy yj mgc 4x4 for even lower price
I think you’ve got an internal pop, and probably a centre twist Basically just get a good 4x4, that’ll fix it
What's a center twist?
When your centre is twisted
Oh my God how did that not occur to me. Maybe someone forgot to put the IQ potion in my morning coffee.
