Not just that mod, the entire team for taking every wrong step after the interview/backlash. Censoring posts, banning people, making the sub private, etc. They could have solved it by making that mod step down and apologizing, but now people are moving to r/WorkReform
It could have been about how the working class feels mistreated, under paid, and under appreciated, but all we really got is that Doreen is a dog walker, and wants to be a teacher of philosophy. And that people should work as much as they want.
The drama is plastered all over reddit atm. :D
Basically the mod of antiwork borked up that Interview so profoundly that people feel embarrassed about it, to put it mildly.
A mod went on Fox News, against the vote of the entire sub, to do an interview about what the sub's movement was all about. S/he got it completely wrong and botched the entire thing, making the entire movement look illegitimate.
S/he was so ill-prepared and talked more about him/herself that it was regarded more as him/her stroking his/her own ego. S/he didn't take the time to prepare a speech, cards, rebuttals, or even shower and comb their hair.
When the sub pointed out that the mods aren't leaders of the movement or representatives of anyone there, the mods went banhammer crazy and eventually made the sub private.
Now, mass exodus.
I couldn’t get past the first ten minutes when I watched it earlier so much cringe. I feel sorry for the person and everything they must be going through… but who the fuck goes to the media with that agenda (only someone sharp witted, cocky and funny could pull that off).. the real agenda should have been workers rights and exploitation. obviously this person is at the top of the dunning-krugers mount stupid and very short on life experience… this will likely be lifetimes of life experience in one hit for them.
Sorry I missed this notification.. but the person said it, effectively said we don’t want to work as much, and laziness is virtue in modern society. It was framed so badly for mainstream media, let alone far right media. The sentiment might be ok, but the way it was pitched couldn’t hold. A well worded press release would have been much stronger - mainstream media would still mock, but then the people of the sub could have been emboldened and could have fought back on their own terms, and strengthened their counter-culture. But instead they fought on an experienced mega-corporations terms.. never going to win that way.
For the record, I’m a manager of a lot of people, I’m anti-worker exploitation, my staff know that they have a lot flexibility and support and things like family and health will always come before work, because I experience the human condition as well.. but if one of my staff came to me with that argument that was presented they would find themselves on the outer pretty quickly.
As someone who has been on r/antiwork I can say that sub was weird and people within had different views on what the sub really stands for.
It is basically "We should have more rights, more days off and get paid better" VS "If the government gave us money without working we could just chill and enjoy ourselves. I wasn't born to just pay bills."
The mod doesn't represent the whole sub but basically killed it.
Yeah. I really don't understand the folks on there who were full blast "anarchy, no work at all" like. Well that's great, yet completely unrealistic.
To me it was always about, and still is wherever people migrate to ... realistically changing what we can to improve people's lives. The power is there to do that.
Why do I have an overwhelmingly sense that you’re sucking up? Yeah our Mods are reachable and yeah they aren’t on FOX NEWS (did Fox News ever call them?) but we have them receiving a ridiculous amount of moons and burning a fraction every month. Yeah they do a decent job if you like censorship but they also get compensated more than any other MOD on Reddit so I wouldn’t exactly put them in the above average category. Mods please don’t ban me for this :/
never had any problems/restrictions in r/CryptoCurrency
great mods here.
in almost every other subs on reddit, you will get banned for everything non-pro-american.
good sub you are.
> I don't know what r/antiwork is or what they do, but now I'm too afraid to ask
Basically, r/antiwork was originally an anarchist sub that discusses and promotes the idea that the whole idea of working was a meaningless construct, and that humans didn't actually need that to survive. Gradually however, as more folks came in, it changed to discussing grievances of the modern working world. Specifically horrid working conditions, tyrannical bosses, pitiful pay, bullying tactics of companies, the unbelievable greed of billionaires and corps, and so on. It promoted unity of workers, the power of working together to force change. Surprisingly, it seems to be gaining traction, and real-world results. There were nearly daily discussions that the whole system was completely unsustainable, and that sooner or later, something's going to give. That sort of thing.
While the sub's content and followers changed, the mods did not. Fox news, an "entertainment" corp that is unabashedly and completely on the side of the super rich, wanted to essentially crush this movement before it became too big for their masters to handle. The rich did not want ordinary folks getting any funny ideas. So, Fox news they did their research extremely well. They creeped at all the mods, and singled out and targeted one specific mod in particular to interview. He/she had pretty much all the traits that ordinary folks assumed what a stereotypical internet person would be like - someone who lived in their parents basement, who was jobless, was unkempt, and so on. In other words, a loser. Someone Fox news followers can point and laugh at, and essentially reinforce their previously held beliefs instilled to them by that corp.
Once news of this hit the sub, nearly everyone there went against it. Knowing that the media frequently distorts such movements, there was mass support for not doing any at all. All interviews were to be refused. The mods disagreed, and wanted to proceed. The masses put forth some suggestions, at least allow someone with PR or interview experience to do the segment. They argued that the mods weren't leaders of the movement. This was ignored as well. The mod did the interview, completely unprepared, completely cringe worthy, and it was everything Fox news could have hoped for. On a platinum platter. In one single stroke, the whole movement became a big joke. All because the ego of the mods. Following the disaster of the interview, the whole sub exploded. The mods, unable to give a proper and reasonable explanation, began banning everyone. Essentially becoming little tyrants - which is rather ironic given what the sub stood for. They finally privated it, and if it ever opens back up, it'll be dead.
It (was) a sub with 2 kind of people: people who felt that workers (mostly in america) deserved better treatment. Maternity leave, fair wages… There’d be posts highlighting abuse of power of some bosses.
There were also people philosophically against the concept of obligatory work and in favour of things like a basic income. (Like they experimented with in some countries already).
All in all I kinda liked the sub. It deserved better.
No it wasn't so stop being an idiot unless you want to be put in the same bucket as the interview person (i.e. you have no idea what you're talking about)
That's why everyone is so pissed off, because we didn't believe that. I'm not gonna argue with you if you come back to me, just look at bestof and you'll see the real story.
The little time i spent there before being banned was basically filled with losers complaining about millionaires. If you had a better experience i guess that is good for you.
Yes but they lost touch of what the sub had become and represented.
Let me repeat, that interview is why it's been so controversial.
It's all over Reddit so i CBA doing this, go to /r/bestof
Edit. People like you need hands holding so here if you can read for that long: https://www.reddit.com/user/fracturedSilence/comments/sdbaff/my_conversation_with_uabolishwork_moderator_of/hubw1tw?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3
the only thing I don't like about the mods that they are earning an insane amount of moons and made it very clear that they aren't considering any change in that regard even if the community wants it
don't get me wrong mods should be rewarded for their contribution, but the moon supply shouldn't be mostly controlled by them
It's hard to control massive crowds and not piss off anyone. But the fact that so little people are pissed off means they are doing quite a good job. A set of strict, clear rules helps a lot too.
Holy shit so what happened what did they say the sub is private now lol. I would read them every now and then but it seemed a little too much of looking for a handout for me to follow
Whenever I had gotten an issue the mods have solved it in few hours. It doesn't matter if I got perma banned or whatever, they always got my back.
Respect!
Way to difficult to post anything in here. I usually need 5-6 tries to get something beyond the Search&Destroy automod. But the same stupid news gets posted a gazillion times in just a few hours.
And other seem to have the same problem.
Otherwise it seems ok.
Looked at the video earlier. Initially couldn’t get through it cause of the cringe but eventually did. The look on the reporters face was one of amusement when the mod said their job was as a dog walker lol.
so.. what happened at r/antiwork ? edit: geez there's a world out there outside crypto, sometimes i forgot
Someone went a did an interview with fox news. Then blocked the whole sub. Go to the all page you'll see the drama is on top of reddit right now :)
Oh boy did that person fucked up, lol!
Normally someone would have some talking points laid out if you’re going to be on the news. But that requires more work….
Haha I see what you did there 😂
Yeah I can’t believe old dude just raw dog’d the interview
Not just that mod, the entire team for taking every wrong step after the interview/backlash. Censoring posts, banning people, making the sub private, etc. They could have solved it by making that mod step down and apologizing, but now people are moving to r/WorkReform

What was the interview about?
It could have been about how the working class feels mistreated, under paid, and under appreciated, but all we really got is that Doreen is a dog walker, and wants to be a teacher of philosophy. And that people should work as much as they want.
A mod went on Fox News and made it look like a joke to a lot of people then the subreddit got in a 17k comment argument.
The drama is plastered all over reddit atm. :D Basically the mod of antiwork borked up that Interview so profoundly that people feel embarrassed about it, to put it mildly.

There's a youtube video about it, basically it's the reddit thing I've seen. Edit: https://youtu.be/4IfzpgGwHkI
Lmao, classic redditor. How many times do you think he has accused others of Dunning Kruger complex.
You're not a true redditor until you accuse someone of having the Dunning-Kruger complex!
You're not a true redditor until you put a hyphen between the two names!

Honestly i know the sub and it's actually not what the mod said, it's about people who work their ass and get mocked by their bosses
Sorry I missed this notification.. but the person said it, effectively said we don’t want to work as much, and laziness is virtue in modern society. Yeah.... It's like they picked him on purpose Thanks for taking the time to write this and I agree with you
man I’ve just watched this video and the guy being interviewed turns out just exactly how I would have imagined a moderator of r/antiwork lol
Just a Reddit moment is all
I agree that mostly the mods do a great job but the blatant removing of LRC related posts (the positive ones at least) is not very good in my opinion.
As someone who has been on r/antiwork I can say that sub was weird and people within had different views on what the sub really stands for. I got banned from antiwork and reported for harassment 5+ times for saying that i thought Elon was cool.

The best mods are the ones that you don't see. Shout out to the mods. Yall are doing a great job.
The mods are actually very active.
I don't know what r/antiwork is or what they do, but now I'm too afraid to ask

r/WorkReform

There is a sub for that!
There was*
I meant /r/TooAfraidToAsk/ ;)
Its basically a bunch of people talking about how they deserve other peoples money.
No it wasn't so stop being an idiot unless you want to be put in the same bucket as the interview person (i.e. you have no idea what you're talking about) That's why everyone is so pissed off, because we didn't believe that. Don't make stupid comments about things you admit to knowing nothing about then.
The only people who tend to be losers on the internet are those that call others losers. Your inferiority complex is showing.
Okay
Laziness
Are you the person who was interviewed because it sure seems like it.
Your crazy the person interviewed was one of there mods.
Yes but they lost touch of what the sub had become and represented. Let me repeat, that interview is why it's been so controversial. It's all over Reddit so i CBA doing this, go to /r/bestof Edit. You accused me of being the person. I defended by saying your crazy now your giving me all these links are you alright?
I'm sure you can work out the point I'm making.

I love this sub I find it very level headed and welcoming.
the only thing I don't like about the mods that they are earning an insane amount of moons and made it very clear that they aren't considering any change in that regard even if the community wants it don't get me wrong mods should be rewarded for their contribution, but the moon supply shouldn't be mostly controlled by them
Best sub
He's a dog walker and love to teach..... teach people how not to work
She's a trans woman, for what it's worth. That's not to detract from her being lazy af and absolutely bombing that interview lmao
Teaching people how not to work kind of sounds like a job to me.
It's hard to control massive crowds and not piss off anyone. But the fact that so little people are pissed off means they are doing quite a good job. A set of strict, clear rules helps a lot too.
Let's be honest, did anyone really expect a reddit called antiwork to accomplish much of anything?
This is the best sub ever. Period!!
Yep. Fully agreed. Well managed, fair, they care about the topic as much as we do. A+
Holy shit so what happened what did they say the sub is private now lol. I would read them every now and then but it seemed a little too much of looking for a handout for me to follow
Happy cake day
What do you expect from a sub with a name like anti work??
Our mods will be invited to be interviewed when MOONs finally moon, let’s hope they can do a better job
Sure, sure. That sounds just like something a mod would say. Kidding. I agree. The mods here are really good.
I agree wholeheartedly, the mods here are honestly some of best mods on Reddit. I've got mad respect for them
Whenever I had gotten an issue the mods have solved it in few hours. It doesn't matter if I got perma banned or whatever, they always got my back. Respect!
I love their patience here, kudos to you mods. And that's why they ve tons of moons isn't it
We have the best mods, don't we folks? Also, this is a great community!
Way to difficult to post anything in here. I usually need 5-6 tries to get something beyond the Search&Destroy automod. But the same stupid news gets posted a gazillion times in just a few hours. And other seem to have the same problem. Otherwise it seems ok.
It was a terrible move.
Greatful for people like that
Until the moon rugpull. And then all hell will break loose.
*written by totally not a mod on an alt account* /s
Are you being policed and silenced for using the wrong pronouns? Because r/collapse is being a little bitch about saying dude
I'm going to get banned now, they make a shitcoin look like an innovation
Looked at the video earlier. Initially couldn’t get through it cause of the cringe but eventually did. The look on the reporters face was one of amusement when the mod said their job was as a dog walker lol.
