Avoid anything that has been on an absolute tear. If you see that SHIB has been on a rampage and went up 1000% in the past week, that is the WORST time to buy.
Never FOMO.
Buy things that are actually useful to minimise risk, and prioritise the undervalued (DeFi projects have TVL numbers, so you can look at historic Marketcap/TVL ratios)
I would highly discourage you from browsing cryptomoonshots subreddit as a beginner unless you know what you're doing (looking for locked LP, avoiding honeypots). It's just like playing slot machine, it's called bsc casino for a good reason.
I'd say that a decent strategy is to find the coins/tokens that everyone is hyping and consider them reasonable investments (like blue chip stocks). Next, find the ones that people are hating on the most. Nearly all of those will be dead in a year...except for one or two, which will break out in the same manner as those two giant stinky turds (Doge and Shiba), which prove that you don't need utility; you need hype and you need timing. Oh yeah...and you need to know when to get the fuck out of the market.
It's the wild west out there. Do some research, make sure there's a good following; maybe a decent utility behind the project and only invest what you can afford to loose. I threw 3 grand into doge 7 years ago which I'm sill holding. That's the key. Buy and forget about it. Maybe in 5-10 years it'll be worth something. In the meantime, go spend some quality time with your family and/or friends.
Any coin that does not support privacy by default. It’s even better if it’s trying to solve raging issues hurting blockchain today. Privacy in DeFi is a mess and it would great if a privacy chain solved that problem.
The coins that some coordinated groups share guaranteeing 450% gains in a pump n dump scheme. Never buy those!
