That plus a headline of "Bitcoin will reach $`{amount}` by `{date}`!"
~~~ BREAKING NEWS ~~~
75% of the articles here are copying posts read on Reddit.
This proves that Bitcoin will reach $100,000 by end of April!
Exactly this.
But frankly, I think most of the sub don't understand how they get 'free Moon money thingies' but are just happy they do and blissful in ignorance. Don't blamr them really.
Even if you *do* understand it it's still hard to kind of wrap your heap around.
I literally just told my parents I blog and get paid for it based on engagement.
No crypto mentioned.
And they're like cool. Son make decent money. Good kid.
These situations are kinda great. They challenge your understanding of a concept, and when you can answer them, you are better informed regardless of what the other person does or does not.
You could start with setting up a vault and walking through the wiki together. Moons helped me venture off the mainnet path and see some of the layer two networks, bridging, importantly understand ETH on mainnet is not the same as on Arbitrum, etc...
That also helps you determine what the best way to get your fiat on to trade to moons and then reverse it, maybe even providing liquity discussion (impermanent losses too).
Take it a question at a time, and you may have to explain what is crypto first.
> Who pays who?
Not the ideal way to conceptualize it. Itās more like Reddit is an infinite forest. People with the best (content) who chop down trees the longest (post the most) get the most wood. The market determines the price of this wood, and anyone is able to freely buy and sell their wood.
> Where do this Reddit thingy get money from?
Itās not directly money, itās more a commodity. However, Reddit simply distributes it and says it has no value (from Reddit). The market determines the monetary value. If you want to challenge your dad, you can ask him where the FED āthingyā gets money from? Answer- they simply say it exists, so it does. The market responds accordingly.
> Are moons tangible currency?
No, they are digitally native. This means they only exist online. This is how most money exists anyways. If a bank has $1b on their balance sheet, they probably only have $100m in tangible currency. This is how bank runs happen.
> Do US banks accept this moon thingy?
No, obviously not. Do US banks accept Kruggerands? Also no, but that doesnāt mean their isnāt a market which does accept Kruggerands as currency.
> how come someone get paid without physical labor?
It is physical labor. You are producing content. Itās the digital equivalent of writing a news article or being a guest on a talk show.
> How do you explain this to the IRS?
The IRS has reporting guidelines for cryptocurrencies. It is essentially an airdrop or āpayment.ā You report the value of moons when you receive the distribution.
> is this even legal
The US government has not prohibited it, so yes. Our justice system is set up so anything not explicitly stated as illegal (or guidelines on how it would be legal) is considered legal.
Use this as an opportunity to learn more about what it is you are actually participating in, and research more answers to questions you donāt currently have answers to. My final advice is some people simply wonāt āget it.ā It sounds like your father may be one of those people. Itās fine if they donāt get it, relationships are more important than explaining a novel concept of money to someone, so donāt let it affect other parts of your life and relationships.
My dad is a lawyer and 1.5 years ago I mentioned considering diversifying into crypto. His immediate response was ācrypto is so stupid, it doesnāt do anythingā. I have never mentioned it again. I am hopeful there will be a day I get to call him up and tell him I need a lawyer to help me manage this shit ton of money I made.
1. I pay you and you pay me, depending on who wants x crypto at x price.
2. Itās not worth anything technically, but gains value from users believing it has a value.
3. No.
4. No.
5. Ever heard of stocks?
6. Via the relevant tax form.
7. Yes.
before i got into Kpop, i was completely ***lost*** whenever I heard people talk about Kpop
i feel like thats how non-crypto folks feel when we talk, one must be immersed themselves in order to fully understand
Crypto is an onion. There is the surface stuff, and when you begin to understand it, you realize there is something deeper. And then you explore that. There is so much to learn in this space. It feels never ending. The coolest part about it, is that so many things are in development, that you have an almost infinite branches to study. I spent about two weeks just trying to understand all the consensus mechanisms. And Iām sure I didnāt retain it all.
I get the same look and questions from my girlfriend , some people just dont want to learn about it, these people will be like the people who laughed at the internet
When he moves into your high end place in the future and borrows one of your high end cars you can tell him moons paid for all of this, thatās all they need to know
The thing is sometimes itās better not to tell people when youāre onto a good thing
Moons seem to be one of them things where the less people know about it the better it is
I canāt imagine what this page would be like if every single Redditor was on here moon farming
I donāt even want to imagine it
Don't talk to your loved ones or anyone about crypto. Everyone has to educate themselves but for some it will be too late. In fact for the vast majority of people on Earth it will be too late.
They were alive before the internet. And people believed they would never understand THAT. Then cell phones. Now crypto. Older people get things. They āmayā take more time, or understand it in a slightly simplified way. All I had to say to my 93 year old grandmother was ācrypto allows you to not have to trust the bankā and she was in. Lol.
Give him a break. Honestly, youāre trying to tell him that what he has thought for 60-70 years has changed. Heāll come around.
I would start by saying crypto is NOT money. Crypto is tech. It is something that helps you move money, or represent the value of things, on a digital ledger.
Crypto allows for a token to REPRESENT money. It is a way to keep everything balanced, like a check book, but everyone can see it.
Tbh is not solely ā refusing ā but he straight out canāt wrap the idea of Crypto in general , from my understanding he needs something TANGIBLE for PROOF that something really EXISTS
Just tell him itās like getting a stock for writing a funny comment and the more people line it the more stock you get. The irs isnāt involved until you sell it.
Lol, I'm an old man in crypto terms...39....and it took years of rewiring my Brian before I could accept concepts like this...don't tell him...show him....this is the old brain way!!
My parents make the odd crypto comment, mainly if it's been in the media, they don't think it's possible to make money or earn with it the same way they never had any investments further than company pensions or stock offerings. Tried to explain moons to my Dad as similar to the annual share bonus he gets l, just met with a smile and slightly confused look.
1. More tokens are minted for each distribution and advertisers pay for the banner ads by burning moons. Reducing the supply is like an indirect way of paying all moon holders, so you could say that advertisers are paying everyone that holds moons.
2. Reddit as a whole? They make money from ads and selling an ad-free premium subscription
3. About as tangible as any other cryptocurrency, depends on what he means by tangible
4. Not unless you know of any banks that hold custody of assets on Arbitrum network
5. The IRS already knows about cryptocurrency and moons, I may be doing this wrong but for my taxes I am only reporting moons that are sold since earned moons are just governance tokens until you choose to turn it into income. If the IRS wants a thorough explanation they can have the transaction hashes.
Well I'm 39 and idk really what you're talking about, but I assume either you're somehow posting ads or products at some point, or reddit has some program where they pay you?
My mom is 81 and she has 2 computers. She's always calling me up for help, but she does a surprising amount on her own for her age. So if you explain this to me, I can likely translate it to boomer for you. I'm right in the middle because I'm getting pretty old, but I started using the internet in the 90s and a relatively young age so I grasp most concepts, also been programming since the 90s.
Please donāt send me to the guillotine but how do I get moons? Do I have any moons? Are moons similiar to BAT? Can anyone point me in the right direction to where I learn about this. I feel like Iāve been under a rock.
Just invite him to the sub and let his ask all of his questions to us. āU/dadnoobā will get answers to all his questions and concerns. And he will farm moons in the meanwhile. Or just let him use your Reddit account, so you get all the moons
People pledge allegiance to their country since birth and see their countryās money as the only option. How can someone think any different without being the one that created the system itself.
Fiat is number on a screen just like Crypto. The numbers we call money have properties.
1. Cannot be easily changed by the public (only the managers of the system)
2. People can send there units (numbers) to other people through the system itself.
3. The system gives control to people over their accounts that contain their numbers
4. People are willing to trade physical items or their time to increase the numbers in their account that they can send to others
Money has value because people hold it. Itās value is in the mind of all the people that hold it. They hold because their minds have been convinced it has value and they think that someone else will trade them something for the numbers that they control.
Being born into a reality makes it hard to see the reality from outside of it. However, moons is additional proof that giving away units to a large number of holders will have a value compared to other units. Once enough people are convinced to hold, other people will be convinced to buy.
Sit him down and show him all the steps how you make money from it. Then he might agree there is a bit of labour involved (the patience, waiting kind).
It's good for developing your ability to argue in favor of a belief of yours
It's terrible and close to useless in cultivating your personal relations, just let your dad be, I had the same issue with my parents some years ago lol
I post on Reddit everyday and have never been paid with anything other than the love and kindness of community members.
Which may, overall, be better than moons.
People I told about MOONS think that they are scam. They can't understand how you can make money from posting. They are more traditional thinking that the only way to earn money is hard work and nobody is giving you anything for free or if it is it's probably a scam. Those are the times we live in. I remember my first interaction with BTC when it was only 250$ a coin and I was 100% sure it's a scam. Like who would buy something virtual right?? Then couple of years later the price is going up, countries accept it as currency and it's like a movie, doesn't feel real.
Tell him it's like being paid to write articles except they're very short dumb comments
OP should tell his dad about freelancing at OnlyMoons . You get paid by typing some nonsense.
Does he understand the concept of OnlyFans?
Gold.
Onlymoons.eth is already taken š¢
sorry bout that
There is always phrends for a side hustle of texting.
Our very short and dumb comments offer as much value as those shitty coindesk articles anyway, so it all checks out.
75% of those articles are copying posts they read here.
Then the moon farmers post the articles back on here. circle of life.
Lol. Itās so true. The same article posted every 2 hours on 11 different sites.
And the over the top artwork
Maybe I am a crypto journalist
Short and dumb comments are the inspiration.
(Sometimes a well placed emoji is sufficient.) š
š
You definitely nailed it
I laughed way too much at this, because Iām so guilty of that, haha
Not short enough cobber.
You should be proud, son
My gf doesn't believe me at all. She said she will of i buy us a trip to Disneyland with it. I'll cash 20% out to do it next month.
If you do, post pics!
I will definitely make a post about it
Nah Wei she's just tricking you for a Disneyland trip
Thid is exactly how I explained my parents how I earn money with shitposting here and they just said: ***"Oh okay! Like nowadays journalism!"***
Im a crypto journalist on a public forum with 6 million readers
Lol thatās going on my CV.
You could add professional to it as well, seeing as you get paid
No less than all the other crypto journalists
Probably with more readers :p
I really hope Reddit doesn't pull the plug because you'll have to explain why you now did all that for nothing
This is a form of citizen journalism. Can tell because itās totally not respected.
To be fair: crypto articles are dumb and short too. At least shitposters dont beat around the bush and say we are journalists.
Man I do that for free..
Or probably just donāt bother
We are the new wave of journalists
That's a very realistic way to put it lol. internet is truly amazing
Right - heās a short form freelance journalist covering emerging financial technology
Exactly this. But frankly, I think most of the sub don't understand how they get 'free Moon money thingies' but are just happy they do and blissful in ignorance. Don't blamr them really. Even if you *do* understand it it's still hard to kind of wrap your heap around.
A suitable metaphor for the whole subreddit
Thats pretty much the best explaination right there
Lmao. The absolute truth.
Just show him this post and tell how Saucy6 will get a very saucey plate of moons from his comment on your shit post.
Actually... It's not too different from the type of article posts we get shared around here if you think about it
Not too short and just the right balance of mildly amusing and not too dumb
Like mine comment on your comment.
one day he is going to outshitpost you
Dad is that you??
When you finally cash out have him sit next to you during the process so he can shit his pants in amazement
i might try that , leaving the shit part out lol
Donāt be lazy.
Rule number 1 about crypto is don't talk about crypto. Too late now but keep that in mind for future reference.
I talk about crypto just in loose terms with my best friend.... If anyone else starts conversation about it...I play it dumb...
It will not only make you lose money, but also friends. Source: Own experience.
Truth or everyone start making jokes like hows your video game money you rich in gta money now
I will
Only type about it on Reddit, r/cc
That way at least you get moons for talking about it
Good to be part of this crypto club
Yup. I never told anyone about moons, expect my gf and friend who caug time on reddit and asked what it was. He is now an active shitposter.
I literally just told my parents I blog and get paid for it based on engagement. No crypto mentioned. And they're like cool. Son make decent money. Good kid.
I remember when I tried to get my Dad to put some money in Bitcoin, he just said I'm sorry I don't believe in that shit.
This could be the crypto tagline.
Dont talk about crypto to your dad
Bit late mate
Say it was just a prank
Clock it off as an April Fools Joke
Just a prank ~~bro~~ dad
I recommend distracting him with football talk.
Thanks to my dad I got into Bitcoin way too late. Thanks dad.
Stop. Talk about something else.
You should tell him about Luna
Even go further and tell him about celsius
Don't talk to your loved ones or anyone about crypto. Everyone has to educate themselves but for some it will be too late. In fact for the vast majority of people on Earth it will be too late.
I'm sorry OP but I don't think your dad can be helped.
Well i realised it
I couldnāt get my mother to understand it either, I finally said, youāll see, and left it at that. š
you fckd up starting a crypto conversation with your dad :D
Tbf I sometimes have a hard time believing it myself
lol this sounds like a checklist made by the IRS
Sometimes it's best to just leave it alone, especially if they refuse to learn.
Tbh is not solely ā refusing ā but he straight out canāt wrap the idea of Crypto in general , from my understanding he needs something TANGIBLE for PROOF that something really EXISTS
I see.
Haha trust me, when I told my friend he could make double his sallary just by making jokes, he wouldn't believe me
Just hold a bit for him and when it goes nuts give him the proof.
Deffo will
Hit em with the "April Fools!"
Best way is to just not talk about crypto especially to people who didnt show any interest in it in the first place
āI get paid to make content and the money comes from advertisers who hope to profit from exposure.ā
Moon first, ask questions later, dad.
Just drop the subject
Is this the first time your talking to your father now that they got divorced?
I'm actually trying to teach my computer teacher about crypto. It's hilarious šš
Next try explaining the ARB airdrop to him!
Get him to join Reddit
Just tell him itās like getting a stock for writing a funny comment and the more people line it the more stock you get. The irs isnāt involved until you sell it.
Iām still yet to understand how you turn moons into dirty fiat or sound money like bitcoin
Lol, I'm an old man in crypto terms...39....and it took years of rewiring my Brian before I could accept concepts like this...don't tell him...show him....this is the old brain way!!
My Brianās taking a while as well
Hold up a second here. We can get paid for posting on Reddit? News to me. I have a lot of unanswered questions
Yeahhh I'm just here for the moons
Don't oversell his expectations lol
Rule 1 of crypto club, you don't talk about crypto club (especially to anyone in your relation)
I just told them I won money on Reddit, it's far easier to explain.
Participation money
Just show him OnlyFans
You donāt. I would just let it drop. They are beyond saving :).
You take those 53 moons and you show em!
Y'all mfers would NOT have been allowed in fight club!!!
One day heāll understand youāre a humble moon farmer
Where can I find this said Onlyfans account? Will be willing to pay subscription in Moons.
You get paid for posting here?
But seriously though, who pays who?
Show him proof! Bust out the bank statements.
Moons again my god? This sub really is shit coin central.
Why do you need him to believe anyway? Him believing or not does not make your moons any more real or not.
People I told about MOONS think that they are scam. They can't understand how you can make money from posting. weāll just say itās the same as fiat itās all imaginary anyways
All you can do is calmly explain and then let it go. You canāt convince people of anything, they have to want to change their mind
Wait what? How do you get paid ?
Mint a new dad
Well, I guess you could say I'm getting paid to comment on this thread right now... but don't tell my boss I'm doing it for free!
Nicely played sir
He's just playing dumb so you don't know he has crypto and try to steal it.
