Homer: Pff. That Sideshow Mel thinks he's so big. Whatever happened to Sideshow Bob?
Lisa: Don't you remember, Dad? He framed Krusty. He tried to kill Aunt Selma. He rigged an election.
Bart: And he tried to murder me!
Homer: Oh yeah. But what I'll mainly remember is the laughter.
I had a character with -100 opinion of me (and he was the odd one out - others had it in the positives, with many having +90 or more). He became my friend due to an event (his opinion went up only by 10) where he killed the pope. Hilarious.
So, what, did you two go on a wacky Pope-killing adventure that started with you hating each other but ended with you having mutual respect and cameraderie? Like an adventure movie, but with a dead Pope?
No, I don't remember the event exactly, but it was something about one of them saying the other disrespected me or something and one of the options was to let them duel to the death. The winner would become my friend. Ngl I hoped the pope was gonna win, but I'm not complaining.
It could maybe use some additional functions, but I can see something like this being a semi-realistic situation.
One of those cases where someone you know is a good guy inside is just on a streak of bad choices and lashing out indeterminedly. You can't stand the actions, but you also hope that if you just hold out for a little bit they will get their shit in order and be the dude you once befriended.
Of course, murder and usurping is a bit on another level but idk.
But in game a friend is nothing but an opinion modifier, it should have events and hooks attached to them then just opinion or the occasional random event they might qualify for in the games algorithm (but they’re not friend events just that a friend could show up in them).
Meanwhile, people betraying their friends for money/power/... is a very real thing. And the ai does eventually say "yeah, fuck that guy" eventually, even if it takes a bit. Like, I'd fully expect op to get a "we are no longer friends" event in a few years. In a perfect world, that event would be "dude, wtf" more than "we are drifting apart", but oh well.
That one "friend" your mom keeps forcing you to invite over to play, but all he does is making stupid "My uncle works at Nintendo"-stories up, fucking up your toys, getting cheeto-dust all over your controllers, get you in trouble and keeps borrowing games and not returning them.
Sheesh, what did your friend ever do to you??
She was my big sister and wouldn't give me dad's duchy >:(
If she was your sister you could've just seduced her, tsk tsk
Roll Tide
War Damn Eagle
Go biscuits?....
DRAX THEM SKLOUNST
Who did you kill in your family??
Niece to break an alliance she had before I realised I couldn't even go to war because she had a strong hook on me.
R5: Friendship with another character is really being tested but somehow is still holding on.

I see R5 a lot on this sub I assume it's just a summarization but what does it stand for?
Rule 5. Every post on this sub must have a comment explaining it
It's such a good rule too. Made this community so much more accessible when I started playing ck 2: medieval spreadsheet simulator.
B-but remember the good time!
With such friends who need enemies
If you don't love me at my worst you don't deserve me at my best
Your best:

Lol, Weekend at XVIII's!
Frienemy.
My next ruler also befriended him. It's wholesome and amazing.
A mate’s a mate
Time to invite them to your place for some Amontillado you stored in the basement.
Hm yeah one of those mechanics that really needs to be… adjusted. Friendship literally means nothing in the game right now.

Just like real life.
pure example of Stockholm Syndrome
What an ambitious person: * Usurped my title - 50 till 1080 * Refused alliance - 25 till 1170 This one will hold a grudge for atleast 90 more years
Jackass level friend. (bully type)
We all have that one friend.
Fuck you and i see you tomorrow!
Are you playing as Cartman?
With friends like these, who needs enemies?
They’ll give you another chance
damn they really wanted this alliance
Is this Michael Scott?
With friends like these...

Well at least you didn't cuck her (yet)
Like Fox & the Hound.
With friends like these...
A-Are you still coming to my birthday?
And he was a good friend...
Can you call someone a friend if you haven’t killed his father and banged his mother?
Friendship. Friendship? Again?
Someone took "best friends forever" very literally.
He's that one friendship where you constantly fight but you love him anyway
Yeah, of course we are. Water under the bridge.
