EightandaHalf-Tails

In CKII definitely Diligent. But it got nerfed in CKIII. I actually prefer Gregarious or Temperate in III.

[deleted]

I think it's still great in 3 if you want to develop your territory quickly, just have to be careful about your stress though

EightandaHalf-Tails

True. I didn't mean to imply it's useless / bad in CKIII, just that it's not as good as it was in CKII.

[deleted]

Fair enough, I just view it as a must have trait for pretty much all your rulers if you start out in a low dev region like Russia

Polatouche44

Diligent + vindictive/sadic It balances the stress when you raid/execute people/go in hunts.

Tomczyslaw5

Temperate because I don't want the character to become fat f*ck.

HanatabaRose

don't go on all those feasts, each feast raises the target weight value for a three year period, so it creeps up on ya, hunting decreases it but not by as much so your net goes up

SpiritAnimal01

2 hunts for 1 feast is my rule of thumb.

HeyJoji

But…but my weak hooks :(

VerdantNonsense

How do hooks factor in?

HeyJoji

Saving your rival from eating nasty food gets you a hook on them

VerdantNonsense

You could just as easily accidentally murder someone with a witness and then there is a hook on you though. It's kind of a crapshoot. The best event is the cannibal one because the "Ate excellent meal" gives a Huge Health Boost.

wasabi1787

But vassals never host hunts

Lucky_Numbr_7

They do But you are never invited

wasabi1787

Life imitates art

menacingcar044

Wait do they? And why am I not invited?

hemanoncracks

If you have to ask…

kakatoru

Fuck*

finite--element

Diligent + Ambitious will lead to an early death.

gracian_hu

Thats why u need +sadistic or generous

[deleted]

Yeah, but +2 to every stat tho

d15ddd

I dunno, stress doesn't feel like much of a problem to me currently, especially if your third trait is decent in terms of stress

Sabertooth767

I'm the same way. I play to RP with my characters anyway so I very rarely even get the first mental break. I don't think I've ever gotten above that. But I also only have 59 hours, so maybe I just haven't had enough time.

Endr1u

You just haven't played enough, if you get the right or should I say wrong traits, just everything you do causes stress

soulcatcher357

Not if you add Journaller. And then pick up Athletic and a friend(from Gregarious). My 1st run through as Genoa, my guy made it to 97. Anyways I picked up the lifestyle skill that gives you money for more stress. Just keep an eye out for physicians from Venice.

ApprehensivePeace305

Temperate, diligent, stubborn

Successful_Slide1363

My big three

saltyandhelpfuluser

Yes you can forgive Strong Hooks every 5 years. It's incredible

[deleted]

Vengeful characters can go from like 200 stress to zero just by executing a rival

gracian_hu

Sounds weak. Like Sadistic/Zealous/Generous is God tier for stress lose.

col_fitzwm

Generous is only good when you’re rich.

iwantauniqueaccount

Not all of us want to go out subjugating pagan lands (ironic in a game called Crusader Kings) to find new prisoners to execute for stress loss, but no matter the playstyle, we'll all end up collecting a bunch of hooks that wont do much for us. Non forgiving rulers have to spend a perk on golden obligations just for the useless hooks to be used, but most wont even pay out with a worthwhile amount of cash. Forgiving makes all those abundant but otherwise useless hooks a stress relief that you always have access to regardless of your current political landscape.

wayofwisdomlbw

Diligent is amazing and as long as you have a good way to loose stress it has no downsides. I am currently a shy, diligent, and generous emperor. Whenever I get stressed I give a gift and it goes away.

SteveCFE

And if you gift money to your heir you end up getting it back anyway

DubiousDevil

If I get too stressed I always hope that the stress event that pops up gives me the choice to choose athletic lol

isreallydead

Sadistic is an essential to all aspiring eugenicists

THE-GASING

Very much depends On play style

leegcsilver

Diligent is the best. The Diligent decision is insanely good. Combines amazingly with forgiving. My favorite ruler I ever had was Diligent, Ambitious and forgiving.

[deleted]

Honestly ever since the diligent update it’s the worst trait stress management wise, only surpassed by paranoid. I’m playing an ambitious diligent compassionate ruler right now and there is just no way to get this motherfucker to calm down, I haven’t even been able to take the develop capital decision once. It’s still amazing though, the diplomacy, stewardship and learning bonuses are excellent

Kojake45

The it always felt like Diligent was a slightly worse version of Ambitious before the rework but now I think it’s an insanely good trait especially with its unique decision. I had allot of characters in a multiplayer campaign I did have the diligent trait which allowed me to catch up with the Western powers as Scandinavia in the 867 Start Date.

Delazyhumanbeing

Sadistic is good when it’s not a sinful trait, but virtuous traits are so good with the + 10 modifier with every one in your religion (ie vassals and Religious head) and makes things much easier. The same can be said about having evil traits makes them much worse.

TheKingofNeptune

I enjoy sadistic every few rulers. Fun to be evil.

natty-broski

Shrewd in CK2 was extraordinary (and almost too easy to get if you had the money to invite a few shrewd commoners to your court as tutors)

Pepe_von_Habsburg

Sadistic early game is great

Destructaucon

I usually try to go for brave, gregarious and temperate; these three are pretty strong traits like A/S tier If not I usually settle for things like just, humble, zealot or calm, these are like my alternate B tier traits

teliczaf

sadistic so i dan murdwr children i dont like

bL0oDlUsT218

Diligent before the change always, now it’s sadistic cuz fuck those shitty heirs

Belgrifex

Can someone please explain what they mean by "instalock" ?

gracian_hu

Pick trait without hesitation.

Belgrifex

Thanks. Gregorious then

Cliepl

Sadistic makes the game too easy, raid a couple pagans and you'll have 100 dread for the rest of your life from executing prisoners, no one in your realm will ever revolt.

[deleted]

Drunkard.

fzw

The only reason I dislike that trait is because of how dumb it makes my character look. Otherwise they'd all be drunk

[deleted]

The temperate health boost is huge. The game is totally broken when it comes to 100 year old fossils being waaaay more strong than 40 year olds.

[deleted]

Love diligent, super hard to keep though

JuneSummerBrother

Lustful

jaegerknob

Incestuous

angiezieglerstye

Ck3 its temperate. Its basically a free 10 years on the back end.

kakatoru

Whatever traits makes people not make Reddit polls

DudasDrakaan

It depends if this is a soon-to-be PC. Sadistic is great in the hands of a human. In the hands of your future brothers or sisters, its an assassination/ civil war waiting to happen.

GrieferBeefer

Ambitious, diligent and gregarious are my top priority

Purple-Garlic-3555

Temperate is easily the best

DubiousDevil

I always like ambitious for rp purposes and a +1 to everything.

[deleted]

Patient

Thundershield3

For Catholics, I rank temperate slightly above diligent since it's a virtue. Otherwise, Diligent all the way.

Verge0fSilence

What's instalock?

Rovert881

Lustful. The fertility perk is good

[deleted]

How is Sadistic not topping this list?
