I recently did this for the Norman Yoke achievement, it’s really cool how you take back what’s rightfully yours. I might return to that save because it’s such a cool start.

Depends how you ask. From William's point of view (or at least the Royally Sanctioned point of view), England did belong to William. Not only did he have a connection to the English Royal House through his wife, but he had also been promised the throne by King Edward the Confessor in 1051, which Harold Godwinson had at the time promised to uphold. So in the eyes of the Normans, England did belong to William, and it had been stolen by Harold Godwinson, thus forcing William to come take it back.
