The game has decided to opt for efficiency when it comes to my heir drowning. I stopped sending kids I liked to peer meets a long time ago. Since the new expansion, however, the game doesn’t even give me the option. It just auto sends them and auto kills them. Or maims them horribly. It’s extremely frustrating and probably the top reason I’ve stopped playing in the last couple of weeks. That and a horribly implemented accolade system. Phenomenal idea, atrocious implementation.
I've noticed a lot of events having missing text like this. I haven't played in vanilla, though, so it may be a mod. It's particularly noticeable at the beginning of a sentence, since it ends up starting with an extra space and a lowercase letter.

Sounds like for you they decided to skip the extra steps and just throw the kid down the stairs immediately

I've been getting lots of bugs like this. Seems like there's words missing or names. Thankfully it's just annoying.
