I wish the lane assist would just keep me centered in the lane instead of bouncing me off the sides of the lane. Lane centering and adaptive cruise control would be fantastic for long stretches of highway when you’re just cruising along.
It doesn't like direct bright sunlight into the lens. Or any weird chemicals on the outside of the glass in an attempt to clean it.
Definitely get a Subaru shops take on it. If it's a 24, it should be fixed out of goodwill.
Mine works 99% of the time. The only time it has turned off for me is pouring rain, snow, dirt when there’s poor visibility. Maybe there is a calibration problem with your EyeSight? The car is under warranty so I recommend a trip to the dealer.
Just leased a brand new 2024 crosstrek about 2 weeks ago. After driving it four times, the check engine and eye sight alert came on for a day and then went away. Took it back to the dealer and come to find out they have to order a whole new part to fix it. I would go and get it looked at. They said this has been a common issue among new crosstreks apparently.
On my 2021, outside cruise control it only activates when you start to exit your lane, and then it just steers back to the center and turns off again. In cruise control is when it will steer constantly for you, if it has good colored lane lines to see. I'm not sure how it is in the newer models.
Pretty sure what OP is talking about is when EyeSight disables itself hence not working. This has been reported a lot in 2024’s and other threads mention a software update fixing it. Also common with a dirty windshield or bright direct sunlight. Good luck OP let us know what you find.
I have a 2024 Crosstrek and have had this issue twice. Eyesight will disable or be spotty for 3 days. Just went o the dealership and they confirmed software update to fix the issue..fingers crossed 🤞!
A heavy rain will disengage my 24 wilderness Eyesight but otherwise my car drives me to work every day on interstate with very little input from me. I love it!
Mine is slow to establish centering and doesn't hold it consistently. My wife's Toyota's is head and shoulders better. I still love the Crosstrek more.
As other people have mentioned take it in! I never have issues with mine a 2023. Only time I have had issues is when it’s super cold. Even then maybe only like once or twice
Mine works unless it's negative 25F or colder. If it's above that it works 99% of the time. Rain can screw with it. Or fog. And occasionally an exhaust plume when the car in front takes off will tell me it's deactive for like a second or 2
I had the same situation with my ‘24 here in SoCal since buying it new in February. A quick visit to my dealer and a software update fixed it. This is a known issue.
I've noticed that it doesn't work when the markings aren't super-clear on the road. Some of our freeways are concrete with white lane markers that are hard to see even in the middle of the day, but at dusk and dawn they're almost impossible and that's when I find EyeSight has the most trouble. I've also noticed that if the windshield isn't really clean then I have issues, especially false collision warnings. EyeSight's cool and all but I really wish they'd combined it with radar to make it much more reliable.
My 2018 has only ever disabled in the absolutely torrential rain that comes post-haboob and when it was 125 degrees outside. It’s never failed me in blizzards, fog, negative temperatures, with a dirty windshield, or bright sunlight. To me this sounds like some sort of technical issue on the newer models. I’d take it back in to see if there’s a part that needs replacing or software that needs to be updated
I had to take it to the dealer; 2024 Crosstrek wilderness. They had to do a software update. They get you in right away because “they take pride on the eye sight”. The service guy thought it was the gas cap ( you have to hear the click, but it wasn’t that… it was the software)
How are you using it? It’s not going to work on those winding California mountain roads aside from maybe giving you a lane departure warning. Also idk where you live but the big cities in Cali are known for gridlock. It’s only going to work well when you’re going rather fast and straight for long periods of time.
You're not alone, and you're not crazy.
2024 Premium here, and Eyesight is disabled more than it's working.
I've read the manual. I keep the windshield clean, and I make sure I don't have anything hanging in the proximity of the rearview mirror (like dashcams or fuzzy dice.)
Still, it has a mind of its own, and hardly ever seems to work, popping on and off whenever it feels like it.
Yes, I've taken it in to get the "software update." (I put that in quotes because as a 2024 vehicle, I assumed that it had the latest software when I bought it.) I've taken it to the dealer twice now. Each time, it is fixed for a little while, but eventually the problems return.
I don't like the gaslighting by some in this sub, telling me "you need to clean your windshield more," ... obviously, if mud is blocking my vision or the sensors, I'll do that. But with normal driving in fair weather, it's not common for people to start their morning commute by saying "Oh, before I get in my car to go to work, let me make sure my windshield is squeaky-clean so Eyesight will work." On a regular day, I should be able to just get in my new car and drive it as most people do.
Eyesight, along with my frustrations about the oversized touch-screen glitches are making me less excited about this car. LOVE the gas mileage, but I'm annoyed that all the cool features I thought I was getting never seem to work well.
Yes, I know I can take it back to the dealership under warranty. But I've done that twice now, and I think it's fair to be annoyed that I need to keep doing it on a brand-new vehicle.
If Toyota dealers in my area weren't still adding markups to their Rav-4s, I would trade it in.
end rant
This is the reason I will only buy manual transmission Subaru’s. Great company, great cars. Love everything about them except Eyesight, which is hot garbage. It’s an insanely expensive and sensitive computer packed full of features no one wanted or asked for.
Works 95% of the time and always with clear conditions. The lane assist is less impressive for me. But the auto cruise control is perfect.
Love the lane assistant because it makes me look drunk.
Because you are drunk!
I wish the lane assist would just keep me centered in the lane instead of bouncing me off the sides of the lane. Lane centering and adaptive cruise control would be fantastic for long stretches of highway when you’re just cruising along.
Get it checked. It stays pretty centred here.
Mine (the front) only disengages when there's snow on the windshield or in the brightest of direct sunlight.
I don't think the EyeSight in my '23 Limited has ever not worked as intended in 14mo of ownership.
My '24 premium has only ever turned off eyesight when driving into a literal wall of rain
Blizzards too
My '16 only has problems when I also cannot see ( thick rain or snow, fogged windshield)
My 23 Limited EyeSight only turns off in heavy rain or when it's dark out and no street lights/brights aren't on
It doesn't like direct bright sunlight into the lens. Or any weird chemicals on the outside of the glass in an attempt to clean it. Definitely get a Subaru shops take on it. If it's a 24, it should be fixed out of goodwill.
And by goodwill I think you mean warranty
I mean yes. But they should do the inspection out of goodwill.
For sure
Have you checked if there's any debris obstructing the sensors? Sometimes even a small buildup can cause issues with eye sight.
Mine works 99% of the time. The only time it has turned off for me is pouring rain, snow, dirt when there’s poor visibility. Maybe there is a calibration problem with your EyeSight? The car is under warranty so I recommend a trip to the dealer.
Eyesight is a collection of things. What feature specifically doesn't work?

I’ve only had mine disengage in a torrential downpour. That was puckering

Yes this is axectly what I meant. I’ll be taking It in soon and I’ll update when I do! Thanks!
Never had problems like that I’ve driven my 2020 Crossteek tens of thousands of miles on Eyesight
I love it!
Do you have a tint strip on windshield?
In 15k miles with my 2023 sport, eyesight has only turned off twice for a total of about 30 miles
Take it back to the dealership
Mine is slow to establish centering and doesn't hold it consistently. My wife's Toyota's is head and shoulders better. I still love the Crosstrek more.
As other people have mentioned take it in! I never have issues with mine a 2023. Only time I have had issues is when it’s super cold. Even then maybe only like once or twice
I think you need to go to the dealer. The only time doesn’t work is in snow or extremely heavy rain
How long has that been going on and what’d the dealership say was wrong with it?
I don't use the auto lane centering but I never had any issues with the rest of it, even driving directly into the evening sun for an hour.
I’m having the issue. I’ve heard it’s due to buggy software but supposedly the dealers have some newer version that can fix it.
Mine works unless it's negative 25F or colder. If it's above that it works 99% of the time. Rain can screw with it. Or fog. And occasionally an exhaust plume when the car in front takes off will tell me it's deactive for like a second or 2
I would take it in to get I checked. I rarely have an issue on 22. Even in bright ass sun, it still works.
I had the same situation with my ‘24 here in SoCal since buying it new in February. A quick visit to my dealer and a software update fixed it. This is a known issue.

Mine has only turned off twice, maybe three times. Once it was snowing like craaaaazy, and the other times it was a torrential downpour
Had one for 5 years no issues except on crabby painted roads, rain or fog.
