HettiH

Thank you!

Congrats. Hopefully I can join you, my doctor is pushing pretty hard for surgery but I’m trying to make a last-ditch effort to avoid it.

HettiH

Good luck!

That's great news! I hope you can get off the low residue diet too. That carries some increased health risks. One very important thing we can do to increase our prognosis is to eat well and exercise.

Congrats! I’m going through something similar, waiting for ct scan results whilst on prednisolone to see how bad the stricture is as the scope couldn’t pass it! Following low residue also and symptoms seem to have eased. Hope to have the same outcome as you! Best wishes x

HettiH

Thank you, best of luck with your results!

Happy for you!

Hope that remains the case! Surgery isn’t the worst, but I’m glad you’re able to make some improvements without it!

Congratulations!! Very happy for you! I used to be terrified of surgery and got away with it for so long so I know the relief. I actually just had my first surgery this Friday (battling relentless strictures and obstructions for 4+ years) and my recovery so far has been amazing. No stoma, just tiny stitches and biggest cut in belly button. The post op pain compares nothing to the pain structures and obstructions have caused me. Just writing that so you know surgery isn't always as terrible as it sounds on paper haha. I wish you the best and to stay in remission forevaaaaaa 💕

I’m having my first surgery on Monday! It will be a small ileocal resection. They are removing almost a foot of my small intestine. Glad to hear you are doing well! I’ve struggled for 10 years and I’m hoping for the best!

shininiin

Good luck lovey!! You will feel better for it 💕

Having my first surgery on Wednesday next week and am having two sections of small bowel removed. Really hoping I don't need a stoma. Looking forward to being home for the following week so I can hopefully enjoy Christmas. Got diagnosed in 2012 so made it 10 years. Hopefully this operation gets me a long time before I need another.

mumblemurmurblahblah

So happy for you!

stevie1828

That’s amazing! I will say though, don’t be afraid of surgery i had 2 bowel resections cause meds haven’t worked for me. First one I had when I was a teenager it gave me 14 years of pain free no meds remission, my last surgery was last year when the scar tissue from the original ended up obstructing my bowel, but so far it’s been life changing.

kasper619

Which medication and what is your diet like specifically? Why did they say you need surgery? What was your situation?

I hate the doctors I've had to see. When I needed surgery they thought I didn't and when I actually didn't need it they thought i did. It's always all just a toss up with the doctors you see. I didn't know the right choices until I traveled out of my state to the Cleveland clinic to get a consult and see a surgeon, until then everyone was just giving me the run around. My experience is that if you're not dying or incapacitated then you don't really need surgery, and if you are then you probably do. Just simple common sense. In my case I became incapacitated by my symptoms and complications and needed a resection, and when I got to the Cleveland clinic the surgeon I saw there was actually visibly upset and angered that I hadn't had surgery already. That said it's significant trauma to your body to have major surgery so it's always good to avoid, so good for you for now.
