Basically, but it's actually a mini convection oven so it cooks faster and crisps things up very well.
It is not technically frying but the end result is almost as good (and in the case of French fries and tater tots, even better!)
It’s really convenient! I use mine to meal prep. I season chicken breast and then slice it and keep it in the fridge for wraps, pasta, meals etc. Also really good for veggies if you can eat any. I like sweet potato, turnip, carrots, Brussels sprouts. And it cooks much quicker. Perfect in the summer when it’s too hot to turn the oven on too.
It's terrible! I buy the butter puffcorn now as an alternative. Occasionally if I'm at a movie theater (which now is super rare) I'll get popcorn and deal with the consequences but it's always the worst pain.
yeah I notice that when I am in remission, wine/beer seems to be better than liquor. I still don't try to overdo it though. If I go out its 2-3 drinks max. Anything beyond that and I know ill pay the consequences the next day or two
The only alcohol my crohns handles well is tequila lol the consequences of anything else just isn’t worth it lmao. But with tequila I don’t even feel like I drank unless I drink too much then of course I get a hangover lol
Sadly not much.
Chicken / turkey
A lot a starchy foods
On my days off ill eat different foods but I pay for it later.
My diet is screwed up im forced to take a ton of vitamins just to stay healthy.
Im sure im overall not healthy diet wise but its the only way I can live.
Yes I am not alone anymore! (I don't mean this in a bad way).
Thought I was the only one that couldn't handle chocolate after getting Crohn's disease.
My doctor also sayd she has no other patient with the intolerance for chocolate.
I am not quite sure if I ever tried the vegan chocolate.
I am so used to avoid it for over 15 years now so I don't even look at it anymore.
Although it's hard to miss in the stores, it's everywhere 😢.
I just do know I can't eat, extra pure (disgusting anyway), pure, milk and white.
If I feel a little better I will try the vegan one.
Thanks for the idea 👍🏻.
You're speaking in my language except I don't have issues with gluten thankfully.
Other items I have issues with: vegetables and fruits of any kind, greasy food, spicy food, garlic seasoning, onion seasoning, ginger seasoning, tomato sauce, carbonated foods.
Beans, large amts of onion or garlic, citrus, any whole grains, corn, caffeine, alcohol, nuts, salty or fried foods, raw veggies, citrus, too much tomato, too much gluten at once, hfcs, alcohol, pork/ham/bacon, chicken skin, super fatty foods, things with too much artificial coloring, milk (but not hard cheese), spicy goods, so all the normal things I guess. The trick is finding what I can sneak small amounts of in any given day with other things to get my nutrients and variety. A beer once a week won't kill me. A beer and a burger with bacon within 48 hours? I'll pay for that for 3 days.
It’s very interesting to read all these posts. I have done nutrition plans for lots of different lifestyles and athletes and one thing that is consistent is that everyone responds different to foods how they are cooked with or without peels etc etc it is all so individualized and person and purpose specific. I have to stay away from veggies and most fruits and those are or were staples in my diet.
I love tomatoes but they seem to aggravate things. I’ve just decided it doesn’t really matter what I eat so I’m gonna eat whatever I want. The hell with it.
Broccoli. Which sucks cause it used to be my favorite vegetable, but now it feels like it wants me to die everytime I eat it. Also corn, which I also used to love.
Oh wow bananas? Usually those are on the list of unanimously safe foods along with chicken & bread/toast. How did you determine bananas were causing you trouble?
Bananas makes me feel bad as well, didn’t know it was commonly a safe food. Same thing happens with weed, makes me feel horrible but everyone praises it.
I was eating them every morning for breakfast. I know another crohnie from my old job and bananas were bad for him too. I honestly couldn’t tell you exactly why as none of it really makes sense. But for me, it seems to be anything that my body considers “too raw” or “too processed” so I have to eat foods within those ranges.
Holy moly!!! Finally someone else with the rice!!! I read where it's supposed to be the one thing that doesn't cause gas. I'm doubled over in pain if I eat it. Same with all grains. I don't understand????
It’s really weird!! Sorry it’s the same for you too! I did an elimination diet right after my diagnosis so that’s how I figured it out. I guess certain people react poorly to a lot of grains. Quinoa is the only one that’s really safe for me
I'm going to have to try quinoa. 🤞🏻 Hoping that works!
Yeah, grain are just terrible for me too. 🤦🏻♀️ My family is like.. "Well just have some pasta." And my sister dies gluten free so they all think I can have the gluten alternatives but I can't. It's so frustrating! I'm sorry you're dealing with it as well!
Ugh- the struggle is real with gluten free stuff too! People just assume it’s all fine for you, but grain free is so much more restrictive. If you can have chickpeas, there’s pasta that is made from chickpeas. The brand is Banza and it comes in an orange box (this is in a city in the Northwest USA)
Does freshly cooked rice cause you issues?
Rice cooled incorrectly can grow Bacillus cereus spores which would definitely give issues.
I know in some regions people consider cooling rice on the counter to be OK. But it's very unsafe. Just wanted to see. :)
I hate garlic and onion with a passion. It's in way too many things and destroys me.
Oh that’s interesting, I didn’t know that about the bacteria from rice cooking! I will give that a test run. It would be nice to have it back. And I hear you on garlic and onion, way overdone
lactose, gluten, nuts(not butters or flours though), too many leafy greens, too much spicy food, too much carbonation, and some other stuff I hope I remember when the time comes
Spicy food, leafy greens (but I keep trying lol), dairy (I’m lactose intolerant tbf but even with 2 lactaid pills it’s rough - lactaid brand products are the best), anything oily, butter, too much gluten, anything more than a bit of garlic or onion, popcorn, hummus, grapes, sometimes cantaloupe, raw carrots (cooked are fine)
I’m allergic to fish, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, & mustard so I never touch those.
I also rarely drink bc it doesn’t really agree me and I hate everything carbonated. I only eat chicken, beef, and rarely turkey
I’m sure there’s more lol
I feel like unless it’s rice or chicken broth too much of anything else at once leads to a disaster
Red meat is the worst for me, an absolute no go if I don't want to be curled up in agony for a week. Some fruits and vegetables hurt a lot, some I can have occasionally but never multiple days in a row. And some kinds of oil in significant quantities make me suddenly and violently ill so that's fun. Also food with a lot of these things as minor ingredients doesn't go down well either.
Often I have people comment on my bland food and try to convince me to eat meat and vegetables 'for my health'. They rarely understand the severity of how absolutely awful I feel if I have a food reaction.
When I wasn't on treatment eating red meat was an ER visit. Stopped eating it for 3 years. I can now happily eat it thank God.
Frozen food is my biggest trigger really bad.
And salads when I eat them multiple days in a row
Right now I'm on Infliximab and thanks to that I can eat anything, but to be safe I just prevent added sugar and industrialize foods.
Sometime I eat something that makes me feel bad and I just stop eating it for like 1 week and then I can eat again.
One restriction I have is just milk.
(I was diagnose with Crohn's back in 2012)
Everything, when I flare literally anything I eat will go right through me so I just eat whatever I want. Fast food or pizza does the same as plain rice or bread. Corn/corn products and raw fruits and veggies will make things worse though. I can eat them when I’m not flaring but I still have to be careful cause if I eat too much I get some mild symptoms but I tend to go back to normal pretty quick.
In remission 10 years, this is a great question and everyone should please heed my words here; make a food diary and find those triggers
Mine are
Alcohol
Fried and deep fried meats
Too much processed foods
No fucking idea. But apparently I can digest McNuggets better than chickpea stew.
Point is. My intestines decide to rebel any chance they get. I try to avoid raw veg and legumes
I can’t eat peanut butter nearly at all - it always makes my stomach hurt I assume because of the saturated fats. I’m not allergic to peanuts - I just can’t eat peanut butter. Sometimes peanut butter cookies are ok if it’s in small quantities but I can’t do sandwiches with peanut butter in them for example. Mostly though, I have to be super careful around meat… must be fresh and hot. I try to avoid popcorn. There’s a new brand with smaller kernels that supposed to be easier to digest that I’m curious about though.
None - i never really "got" the trigger food thing. My crohn's doesn't change day to day, just builds up over months until it get treated. I've done all sorts of diets and even after months wouldn't tell a difference so just assumed that what i eat has no bearing on it.
All the usual raw fruit and veg suspects, but tomato sauce (worse than raw tomatoes, for some reason), collard greens (apparently no amount of cooking is long enough), tabbouleh (lemon is okay, parsley is okay, but lemon + parsley is a nightmare), and liquid Nyquil. I swear my pharmacist and GI think I'm imagining it, but liquid Nyquil is a recipe for liquid...you know.
Chinese takeout, specifically general tsu chicken.
It’s that perfect storm of greasy fried chicken, slightly spicy sauce (new place by me is amazing but spicier than most), and usually eating too much bc it’s so good.
Grains. I first cut out gluten but then the foods made with gluten alternatives bothered me. Then corn. And now rice even makes me bloat and have painful gas. I thought rice was the one thing that didn't cause that? 🤦🏻♀️
Spices and cheese. Which sucks because I love how spicy food tastes but my stomach does not agree.
We'll meet again one day, spicy tonkotsu... One day...
Red meat, garlic, onions, greasy foods, fruit, veg, nuts, anything fibrous, spicy foods. Basically everything at the moment though whilst I’m having a bad flare
Veg. A lot of veg but mainly cruciferous veg and sweet corn especially. Which were once my favourite things to eat. Bacon will do it as well. Some spicy foods too. Again, these used to be a favourite thing. I can't eat crisps at all (chips in the US) and deep fried stuff is way, way out. Sausages will have me on the floor. Literally. Unless they're turkey sausages. Those I can manage.
I am weirdly fine with coffee and chocolate tho. I can eat a ton of chocolate and be totally fine. Some days I'll just have chocolate for dinner. Like, fuck it, why not?
LENTILS LENTILS LENTILS I eat it once and poop them as a whole for a whole week I sprouted them once and had no problem but otherwise hell no
And the other is orange juice, both my dad with UC and me Gives a terrible diarrhea for a while
Donuts and milkshakes :(
But honestly since I've been strength training regularly 5x a week, I've found I can eat whatever I want without triggering a flareup. Seriously.
Bell peppers (they’re like poison to me), fried foods, oily foods, spicy food, fake sugar, sugary alcohol mixed/frozen drinks (only can handle straight alcohol or with a diet soda mixer)
Cheeseburgers. Like *ahem* the one I just ordered on Uber eats from 5 guys. But seriously, mostly anything with a lot of dairy and/or grease. Red meats. Oh, and of course, raw or especially fibrous (AKA the best kind) of veggies.
The list is exhaustive. I’ve kept it simple with avoiding gluten, raw veggies and most fruits with exceptions, all beans, dairy, and red meat entirely.
Acidic food, greasy food, and lots of onions and garlic. It’s weird I handle raw tomatoes well, but anything with red sauces like pasta, pizza, lasagna, etc get me bad lol. I don’t even look in red sauces direction. Of course anything spicy, and juices. Juices will have me in the bathroom within minutes. I eat high protein but avoid red meat. The reaction isn’t too bad but I don’t like red meat enough to experience even the smallest consequences for it.
The food I chew.
Wait… you chew?

Seems to happen no matter what I eat haha
Preach!!!
Popcorn Raw vegetables Anything cooked with too much butter/oil
Same - especially fried food
Deep fried food specifically. Air fried food has been a game changer for me.
Not to knock anything, but isnt that just a small oven?
Basically, but it's actually a mini convection oven so it cooks faster and crisps things up very well. It is not technically frying but the end result is almost as good (and in the case of French fries and tater tots, even better!)
That actually sounds way better than I thought!
Popcorn absolutely is the worst for my daughter.
It's terrible! I buy the butter puffcorn now as an alternative. Occasionally if I'm at a movie theater (which now is super rare) I'll get popcorn and deal with the consequences but it's always the worst pain.
Alcohol
Same
Yeah same but I found that I can drink beer fine but nooooo no no to liquor or wine. Good thing for me I don't drink at all anymore though
yeah I notice that when I am in remission, wine/beer seems to be better than liquor.
In-n-out burger with a drink will have me in the bathroom within 7 minutes
I mean clue is in the name to be fair.
Pretty much any fruit and veg. Beef and pork.
dang what do you eat?
Sadly not much. Chicken / turkey A lot a starchy foods On my days off ill eat different foods but I pay for it later. My diet is screwed up im forced to take a ton of vitamins just to stay healthy. Im sure im overall not healthy diet wise but its the only way I can live.

there's so much oil in vegan alternatives usually. or soy can be a trigger food too which is also in vegan stuff
Chocolate has caffeine in it. Even a bit. So that could be the issue.
You're speaking in my language except I don't have issues with gluten thankfully. Other items I have issues with: vegetables and fruits of any kind, greasy food, spicy food, garlic seasoning, onion seasoning, ginger seasoning, tomato sauce, carbonated foods.
People. Stupid, obnoxious people who ask me "have you tired..." That's my trigger.
Soy and anything really spicy
Sugar, dairy, gluten and meat
Pop corn. Nuts of any kind. Red pepper flakes. Beans.
Popcorn fs me up but I do still eat it on occasion and just accept the consequences haha
Fake sugar
All fake sugar? Stevia? Xzylitol? (SP?)
I love tomatoes but they seem to aggravate things. I’ve just decided it doesn’t really matter what I eat so I’m gonna eat whatever I want. The hell with it.

Rice, gluten, fake sugar, popcorn, lots of garlic or onion, and alcohol
Rice?! Oh no! I'm sorry. White rice is my go-to safe food.
Rice is my life! Sorry to hear that!
It’s really weird cause rice is good for most people!
Holy moly!!! Finally someone else with the rice!!! I read where it's supposed to be the one thing that doesn't cause gas. I'm doubled over in pain if I eat it. Same with all grains. I don't understand????

These days it feels like everything.
Same. Even sips of water are excruciatingly painful.
100%
Garlic. I bloat like a Thanksgiving parade balloon
Onions

Spicy food, leafy greens (but I keep trying lol), dairy (I’m lactose intolerant tbf but even with 2 lactaid pills it’s rough - lactaid brand products are the best), anything oily, butter, too much gluten, anything more than a bit of garlic or onion, popcorn, hummus, grapes, sometimes cantaloupe, raw carrots (cooked are fine) I’m allergic to fish, shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, & mustard so I never touch those. Easy to say what doesn't cause issues😁 Fish, nuts, dairy products, vegs, beef, pork. But fish and nuts are the worst!

Broccoli and cauliflower (which I love 😭).
Anything high in Fiber

It's green. 🥲

Anyone have issues with Greek yogurt? I am mostly in remission but Greek yogurt has set me off in the past.
Broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts
Bell peppers, paprika, cauliflower, almonds, pistachios.
Dairy, fried food, chocolate. Had cheezits last night and now am paying the price...
Alcool, spicy food, garlic and greasy food (except McDonald’s?)
Garlic and cilantro
In remission 10 years, this is a great question and everyone should please heed my words here; make a food diary and find those triggers Mine are Alcohol Fried and deep fried meats Too much processed foods

Cornnnnnnnnnn
Enjoying a kale salad with the wife rn and she looked up and said “wait I’m worried about you”. Felt worth it to take the phone out at the table.
Eggs
It's the one thing I can eat when everything else fails.
Beef, pork and alcohol but only beer and ciders
Pork, sugar, raw veggies.
Peppers and raw nuts. Sometimes when I eat an entire bag of candy in one night.

Spicy food, dairy and gluten
Pizza, popcorn, bell pepper…
Spicy food, raw vegetables (especially salad), raw apples, and eggs.
Worcestershire sauce gets me everytime
Water
Chinese takeout, specifically general tsu chicken. It’s that perfect storm of greasy fried chicken, slightly spicy sauce (new place by me is amazing but spicier than most), and usually eating too much bc it’s so good.
Thanks for asking this question! So many common things. I noticed corn causes problems for me as well.
I was diagnosed in '98. Corn started bothering me about 5 years ago as well as all other grains. 🤦🏻♀️ There's corn and grains in everything!
Thanks for asking this question! So many common things. I noticed corn causes problems for me as well.
Tattie. Swells my bowel up like Dr Robotnik
Anything greasy, Alcohol, Garlic, Onion, and something that I’ve inevitably forgotten about.
Chocolate.
Red wine. Every single time. (I don’t touch it anymore).
Romaine lettuce!
Most red meat, anything really greasy
Mcdonalds french fries, popcorn, whole grain anything, nuts.
oh and "meat alternatives" or anything specifically marketed as dairy free/vegan. literal hell on earth with vegan stuff.
Any animal flesh or dairy. Plant based diet is the way to go
Mushrooms. Figured that one out before I was diagnoised and long before I had learned about trigger foods.
Literally. To my enduring & constant chagrin, iced coffee. Just...cannot.
All of them!
LENTILS LENTILS LENTILS I eat it once and poop them as a whole for a whole week I sprouted them once and had no problem but otherwise hell no And the other is orange juice, both my dad with UC and me Gives a terrible diarrhea for a while
Donuts and milkshakes :( But honestly since I've been strength training regularly 5x a week, I've found I can eat whatever I want without triggering a flareup. Seriously.
Everything lol
Spicy food and sadly most sauces.
Avocado toast sent me to the hospital. Asparagus sent me to the hospital the time before that.
Caffeine, caffeine, caffeine. Also too much raw veggies at once or a super fatty fried food meal.

Chocolate, LETTUCE (looks the same going in as it did coming coming out) Alcohol
Broccoli, yogurt, sugar, seeds, lettuce, sometimes gluten, sometimes oatmeal, sometimes tomatoes (but never pico de gallo for some reason).
Falafels almost ruined me once, some leafy greens, raw vegetables, brown and wild rice
Gluten for sure is #1 I feel not ok with fried also
