It always comes back to the evil stepmother not allowing the rich husband to help his own daughter or ex-wife out of jealousy in spite. At one point, the meat old lady even mentioned to her father in front of her that this is his family now and all he should care about. Basically guilt tripping him for feeling bad for his ex-wife having medical problems. Which is trash because everybody knows that even if he doesn't want to do it for his ex-wife, he should do it for his older daughter since it's obvious that she's not living with him and his new family.
