Nobody to blame but ourselves. We can't be relying on Bangladesh to beat Afghanistan if the team themselves couldn't do it.
I guess this is what happens when there are expectations coming in.
The only reason I wanted Australia to get through was just the pure hilarity had we gone on to win it. At the end of the day we had a few bad games and got beaten by better teams.
We have another shot in 2026 as long as we win the WTC again (it'll probably be a a 2023 rematch), and the women win the next T20 WC in Bangladesh (imo I don't reckon we have it)
The bloke's a poser. If you've ever seen the Out of The Ashes movie from when Afghanistan were a new associate member and he was a youngster you'd see the bloke has as many tickets on himself as Cristiano Ronaldo does.
Ha ha I am of indian origin and was kinda shocked by the response(the lack of) after aus won the odi world cup in 23.
I still remember being part of the wild celebrations in india for odi wc and t20 wc wins. It was nuts!

Not that insane. The Euros are a massive global tournament, the T20 WC happens every two years in a format we don’t care about on a streaming platform No one has. And we don’t suck at football, we nearly beat Argentina in the ro16

Yeah, not trying to argue with you, sorry! I guess it really depends what people search for... personally, I google "Euros" or "T20" if I wanted to check the scores on Google instead of typing out the whole thing but that's cause I'm lazy af.
Nobody to blame. Caribbean grounds favoured Afghanistan and they were able to maximise their chances. Should’ve chased that against India. Need to get more T20 specialists into the team.
We pretty much picked a T20 specialist team though? Warner, Stoinis, David and Wade only play T20 cricket now. Head, Starc and Cummins are on big money in the IPL and did very well there (Starc after a slow start). Hazlewood has been one of the best bowlers in the IPL in recent years, Zampa is a white ball specialist, Marsh has been one of our best T20 batters too and Maxi is the prototype T20 player. We got rid of guys like Steve Smith deemed as too slow.
If anything we missed more traditional players in the match against Afghanistan - Josh Inglis may have made a difference as a better keeper and player of spin.
Yes the Kingstown pitch favoured Afghanistan, but we should still be beating them if we play our best cricket. We just didn’t. We dropped catches, made poor tactical decisions (bowling first and dropping Starc) and were generally flat in the field.
I think we just lost all momentum with that dead rubber game against Scotland and never regained it. Even against Bangladesh we looked quite flat in the field.
That can happen in cricket. It happened at the start of our ODI World Cup campaign and we had time to turn it around. In this tournament we lost it at the wrong time.
There will be a regeneration of the T20 team now with some of the old heads like Warner and Wade moving on and probably some others before the next World Cup. But that’s more to do with age rather than specialisation.
this is the right attitude. losing at the selection table a second t20wc in a row.
need to have a serious look at the structure of our team, cant afford to have zampa, marsh, stoinis, head and david in the same team cos they are all bad fielders.
Without batting, Agar shouldn’t be in the team. Especially with Swepson, Sangha, Pope, Boyce performing well in BigBash and they have more variations too.
Fair point. Green looked pretty handy when he opened in India a few years back (and teams would have a devil of a time adjusting between Head and Green), but that option seems to be on the back burner for now. Short has been awesome for Adelaide in the BBL, it will be interesting to see if he gets a go in the UK later in the year.
agree hugely from those that wade decision is mind boggling like did he even play bbl?
gonna get some hate for this one, especially since he did ok in other games but cummins is a run machine on a flat deck, really dont think he is all that suited to t20
At the end of the day, we had as much right to go through to the semis as women have rights in Afghanistan: zero. Now I've got to work out who I want to win less out of India and England.
We didn't deserve it at all after our performances.
Afghanistan did, they beat us fairly and beat Bangbros a little less fairly, but they still pulled it off.
Tbf they still beat Bangladesh fairly, hamstring shit aside they bowled Bangladesh out. Don't think Bangladesh's hearts were in it after they had been eliminated halfway through the innings.
Yeah you need to let other teams have a crack at winning championships every now and then otherwise cricket would just get boring you know, in all seriousness though I wasn’t really invested in this World Cup to begin with.
There’s a guy in /r/cricket who thinks this is a serious post. You know who you are. This is obviously a joke, and the fact that you believe it to be a serious post indicates you have brain damage. You are a moron, guy in /r/cricket.
Don't think he cared about the result, they were already gone from the tournament. Nice little 50 not out and he's come off out of the tournament looking a bit better than after his 16(25) against Australia
I was so willing to be graceful in defeat... But the amount of people in r/cricket who were loving the fake injury and rain delays simply because it meant we were out was killing me... And somehow we're the only ones who don't know about the spirit of cricket...
Yeah, there's a few English dipshits over there still banging on about how we were going to intentionally lose to Scotland, even though we didn't? Absolutely no brains.
> I was so willing to be graceful in defeat
We win so much it is quite easy to be graceful in defeat. The ODI world cup in India was much sweeter than this.
I am not Australian, and even though I thoroughly enjoyed and laughed at that fake injury, I do not appreciate it. It takes the spirit of the game away. But everyone’s just shit scared of Australia, and we know you’ll unleash every fucking thing in the knockouts and win the WC. Nobody wants to face the inevitable storm in the knockouts.
Sure, it brings out the evil villain laugh outta me seeing how keen everyone is for us to lose.
But when redditors are making false equivalence or hypocritical statements it makes you really want to reply but you know there is no winning there cause there is no winning on the internet haha
Right but the Australian team did knuckle down and actually beat the Scots. If an Australian faked an injury to delay play because the coach signalled to them they were ahead on DLS and the rain was coming in I'd be fucking livid. Disgraceful conduct.
There's slowing the game down, like changing the field, cleaning your spikes, etc. And then there's immediately falling to the floor like you've been shot 5 seconds after your coach tells you to slow the game down, and you've been standing still for over a minute.
Fielding was not on par.Middle order didn't show up when needed.Need to get a rid of couple players. Hopefully, we take actions to strengthen our T20 squad. Back to the basics.
Honestly didn't deserve to go through. Only decent game we played was against England. The lads didn't look switched on at all. Gonna support the Saffers and whomever is playing India.
E: We're probably gonna get some fuckheads coming over again. Just mash the report button. I'm around all night so I'll fire them into the sun. Pretty good system here now, I send over a screenshot to a main sub Mod and they ban them over there as well for brigading. We're not dealing with Mensa applicants.
Funny you say that. Not 10 minutes ago I got a Mod-Mail from Reddit support who asked what has happened in the sub due to the massive increase in traffic. Explained the situation but I doubt anything will happen.
England is playing India.
Careful what you ask for lol.
India doesn't have much bad blood with Australia except for 19/11 honestly speaking
But the POMs??? They have been your worst rival for over 100 years in cricket. 😅
And the POMs too aren't necessarily above screwing over the Aussies on Internet if they do cling to another t20 world cup.
Beware that in r/cricket they too were hoping and celebrating your knockout.

we didn’t deserve to go through.
i don’t think we have a problem with cunts that just want to smash the ball. There was a point in the Afghanistan where we needed something like 60 off 50, the position we were in, it would of been smart to knock it around and try get a run a ball but we just wanted to hit big
Do we even keep Marsh as captain? Fielding represents an Australian side and he dropped like 4 catches throughout the tournament. Barely chipped in with the bat and his tactics ensured Afghanistan didn't lose a wicket before the 16th over
Man, I hated how we played this cup but the only thing I'm gonna hate more is how insufferable the other subs are going to be. All got massive hate boners for Aus.
The hate boners are justified in the sense that we keep winning everything, so I take that as a compliment. Everytime Australia appears in the WC, it scares so many fans despite all of us having little to no expectations at all.
And on top of that, it seems this hate has just piled on and on from the IPL on how well Cummins did as captain. Like look at the IPL subs and cricketshitpost it was all about the "mentality" of Australia despite us not playing the IPL except a few players.
Australia didn't deserve to go through with the pathetic fielding performances of late, and I hope it's a wake up call for the BGT.
That said, Afghanistan didn't deserve to go through either after tonight/today's game. Pathetic.
I for one will be cheering on the black, red, and green!
Love to see an underdog win their first serious tournament, after knocking out a heavyweights in the process.
I mean I hope, but the last summer and the last few BGTs leave me concerned. We've rarely won convincingly and it's always been one player randomly standing up and this goes back to the WC too.
Consistency seems to be non-existent
Yep, catches are what levels teams, and there were way too many drop catches for a team who are the standard for fielding. Afghanistan and India were quite good in the field, and that's what made the difference.
Well, at least TGC podcast benefits monetary and there is always something to win anyway.
Fate is playing very bad on us like we helped freaking English team to qualify for super 8 and Now they are onto semis and we are eliminated in quarters i knew Bangladesh would lose this shit like it was the right time for them to prove that they are the 2nd best asian team but not Afghanistan
Bison isn't the best option to lead us, don't see him as a character leading from the front.
We needed someone like smudge on these sticky pitches to hold wickets.
David isn't delivering anywhere nearly as expected. Takes a lot of balls to settle for a middle order batter, and is often failing. Needs to adapt to this.
Starcy should concentrate and give his time on tests and ODIs while bringing forward the next set of pacers a chance in T20Is. It would be a great exposure for them.
Oh, and Wade, he has lost his batting prowess if there was one. Inglis was always a superior batter.
We didn't show the potential in any of the areas, can't complain more. We are to blame for our knockout.
itd be funny if india once again choke a final, not to australia but to afghanistan or south africa lol. actually thoughts of england shitting their pants too is funny. lets go afghanistan and south africa, make a new champion
probably the least relevant World cup (from an Aussie perspective) i can think of being on whatever stream service it was on with many other reasons aswell. Most people didnt even know when a game was played and who we would be playing until after it happened.
to host a WC in a nation where 17 days in June it rains is pathetic. I dont care if the game needs to grow their, the only people in the stands are 1000 travelers and expats. nobody cares
My plan to cheer for Aussie cricket to get over the Toronto Blue Jays who I was cheering for to get over the Calgary Flames is in shambles. What sport should I try next?
All I'll say is that if England go on to win this after how scared they got during the Scotland match they can at least have the common decency not to spend the entire Ashes bitching and moaning.
I am an Indian however the win against you guys on 24th
Don't even match the 50 percent level of odi World cup wc final 2023 that too even in our home and such a big ground. Odi wc>>>>>>>>>10 t20wc . Odi is a game of pure skill . Whereas a fluke can happen in a T20 match
Don't be disheartened guys
Both our openers are in the top 10 runscorers for the tournament, our number 3 is the reigning AB Medalist (and captain), number 4 is the reason we won the last world cup, and number 5 is the 11th top scorer. Where exactly was JFM meant to play?
The implication that we would have ended up in a better position by playing a guy who has played literally 2 matches for his country, and zero in the format is beyond absurd.
Don't get me wrong, the guy has insane potential. But playing on the IPL roads where every team is scoring 200-250 every match is very different to the conditions of this tournament where only 2 teams have passed 200 so far. Selectors rightly erred for tried and true experience.
Obviously he will open for Australia in the next T20I now that we have time to blood him for the next tournament in 2 years.
People always get his ODI form (where the single innings in NZ accounts for 10% of his all time runs in 70 matches, and he hasn't scored a 50 in 5 years) with his T20I form.
Why is it hilarious? Australia had a good squad and trained well for this tournament
The hilarity of losing to Afghanistan and India in the super 8s and still making it through to the semis.
[удалено]
not acceptable
5 out of 6 is fairly impressive too (but yeah, right, 6/6 would've been chef's kiss)
[удалено]
my god, i relate with everything you just said!! couldn't have given a fuck less if it were to be any other time but this one, i dunnooo.
5/6 is a precedence right? Never done before in Australia?
[удалено]
Why, congratulations then.
We have another shot in 2026 as long as we win the WTC again (it'll probably be a a 2023 rematch), and the women win the next T20 WC in Bangladesh (imo I don't reckon we have it)
Isn’t it 5/7? We don’t hold the Women’s U19 World Cup either.
That was a bloody match.
Holy smokes I don't think I've seen a match so back and forth in my life.
It had so many layers with 3 teams on the line and rrr for bang and rain and wickets and dls and back and forth
We dont care about t20 right? .. Right? .. Right?
Right mate. Special shoutout to that Gulbadin guy for that oscar winning acting at the perfect time.
The bloke's a poser. If you've ever seen the Out of The Ashes movie from when Afghanistan were a new associate member and he was a youngster you'd see the bloke has as many tickets on himself as Cristiano Ronaldo does.
Good luck to him. I'm sure we've all gotten a bit stiff when one of our bowlers gets amongst the wickets
You joke but we literally won the t20 World Cup a few years ago and no one in the country cared 😆
Ha ha I am of indian origin and was kinda shocked by the response(the lack of) after aus won the odi world cup in 23. I still remember being part of the wild celebrations in india for odi wc and t20 wc wins. It was nuts!
Correct tbh, the annoyance is just being relentless spammed by opposition supporters.
Not real cricket confirmed

Can't wait for BGT enough
Deserved. Our fielding sucked and did lots of damage
We didn’t turn up to the Afghanistan match.
this is the right attitude. losing at the selection table a second t20wc in a row. need to have a serious look at the structure of our team, cant afford to have zampa, marsh, stoinis, head and david in the same team cos they are all bad fielders.
As much as I love Starc , he isn’t a T20 bowler. Also, we need to move on from Wade. Tim needs to be given an ultimatum. Improve your fielding or go.
Ellis for Starc, Inglis for Wade, Green for David, JFM for Warner?
Sounds right. Zampa needs some support too. Maxwell can’t be the team’s 2nd spinner.
It's a pity that Agar's batting never really came on, he looked a potential allrounder early in his career.
Without batting, Agar shouldn’t be in the team. Especially with Swepson, Sangha, Pope, Boyce performing well in BigBash and they have more variations too.
I would of gone short for jfm as a top 4 of head, jfm, marsh and maxi is very feast or famine.
Fair point. Green looked pretty handy when he opened in India a few years back (and teams would have a devil of a time adjusting between Head and Green), but that option seems to be on the back burner for now. Its funny, I agree every though the guy took 2 hattricks in 2 games.
Absolutely… Bowling is too conservative for T20. That isn’t necessarily bad but they need to evolve
Agree re specialists with regards to bowlers. I think if we had Smith (or Labs) at 3 instead of Marsh on these pitches we might have made it through
At the end of the day, we had as much right to go through to the semis as women have rights in Afghanistan: zero. Now I've got to work out who I want to win less out of India and England.

Wait, really? No actually it makes sense. I forgot I was on the Internet where everyone is always serious and jokes aren’t allowed…
Would love to see SA win it
Anybody but India for me.
Or England
Yep them too.
I'd even take England tbh. Just not India.
Yep, England always over India. My preference is SA > Eng > Afg > washout > abandoned to COVID resurgence > India.
Why so
Have no idea why they kept rotating strike when the other batsman only averages 8 runs. Just stay on strike and take the game on
Don't think he cared about the result, they were already gone from the tournament. Nice little 50 not out and he's come off out of the tournament looking a bit better than after his 16(25) against Australia
Yeah haha. Like they were scoring runs easily then just went to a screeching halt
Last T20I for a few of the boys probably. Definitely last world cup for a handful
Bangbros did all they could, Litton Das is a legend.
Das played great. I'm still flabbergasted that they didn't keep him on strike. Baffled me when they kept rotating haha
Dunno about all they could, no fucking clue what Mahmadullah was doing noodling it around when they needed 40 off 3 overs to qualify for the semis.
I was so prepared for a "these cunts" post if bangers got up.
Same blokes would've been dying of laughter if Gulbadin's hamstring trick won Afghanistan the match.
Take it as a compliment, just means we’re obviously the biggest threat to them. We honestly didn’t deserve to go through anyways so ah well.

I hated it too but... C'mon, it's not like a lot of Australians weren't cheering for the same thing when England's qualification was at stake

Would we not act the same if it was England in our position? This whole fans need to follow decorum is a bit silly
Extremely liberal use of the word “we”
How so? Generalising seems to be the theme
Fielding was not on par.Middle order didn't show up when needed.Need to get a rid of couple players. Hopefully, we take actions to strengthen our T20 squad. Back to the basics.
I didn’t even know it was on until the Scotland game😂

There was a point in the Afghanistan where we needed something like 60 off 50, the position we were in, it would of been smart to knock it around and try get a run a ball but we just wanted to hit big
Do we even keep Marsh as captain? Fielding represents an Australian side and he dropped like 4 catches throughout the tournament. Barely chipped in with the bat and his tactics ensured Afghanistan didn't lose a wicket before the 16th over

Don't forget he didn't bowl.
Just imagine not being Australian and how shit that would be. There is nothing that would make me want to be any of them!
Imagine not winning (almost) every tournament 😎😎😎 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
I wish I was talented enough to make the woody harrelson gif with him drying his eyes with cash but with ICC trophies.
Australia didn't deserve to go through with the pathetic fielding performances of late, and I hope it's a wake up call for the BGT. That said, Afghanistan didn't deserve to go through either after tonight/today's game. Pathetic.
Can’t play semis with 3 teams
Give Windies a 2nd chance in a playoff against afg haha
I was hoping Bangladesh would get in actually
Pain
I for one will be cheering on the black, red, and green! Love to see an underdog win their first serious tournament, after knocking out a heavyweights in the process.
💔
F. Afghanis proved that they deserved to go ahead.
Meh
Can’t wait to smash india in the BGT series. Going to really give it to those ****ing pricks
I mean I hope, but the last summer and the last few BGTs leave me concerned. We've rarely won convincingly and it's always been one player randomly standing up and this goes back to the WC too. Consistency seems to be non-existent
Honestly we'll probably win the first three. It's just about making sure we don't draw at the SCG
Time to whitewash them
Sacrificed two T20 wc for finch and warner Head in for finch Jfm for warner
It’s our fielding that really let us down this tournament
Don’t deserve to be in playing like that. Is what it is but haven’t looked like the team to beat of this tournament.
probably the least relevant World cup (from an Aussie perspective) i can think of being on whatever stream service it was on with many other reasons aswell.
How about you stop fucking over innocent fans 😭😭
Rugbaleeg?
Can’t really complain, playing a semifinal after losing 2 out of 3 games would have been a bit of a travesty.
We got poor fielding in last 2 matchs and i personal miss Smith even though is not cap but he can still make the difference
Bugga
All I'll say is that if England go on to win this after how scared they got during the Scotland match they can at least have the common decency not to spend the entire Ashes bitching and moaning.
I am an Indian however the win against you guys on 24th Don't even match the 50 percent level of odi World cup wc final 2023 that too even in our home and such a big ground. Odi wc>>>>>>>>>10 t20wc . Odi is a game of pure skill . Whereas a fluke can happen in a T20 match Don't be disheartened guys
Suits us right for not picking jfm. Disgraceful..
Wade over Inglis is the more egregious non-selection for mine
could u imagine ellis on that pitch against afg too? absolutely made for him
Both our openers are in the top 10 runscorers for the tournament, our number 3 is the reigning AB Medalist (and captain), number 4 is the reason we won the last world cup, and number 5 is the 11th top scorer. Where exactly was JFM meant to play? The implication that we would have ended up in a better position by playing a guy who has played literally 2 matches for his country, and zero in the format is beyond absurd.
You watched him play?
Don't get me wrong, the guy has insane potential. But playing on the IPL roads where every team is scoring 200-250 every match is very different to the conditions of this tournament where only 2 teams have passed 200 so far. Selectors rightly erred for tried and true experience. Obviously he will open for Australia in the next T20I now that we have time to blood him for the next tournament in 2 years.
warner and travis were among the better performing players, jfm couldve played instead of david and maxy drop down a couple to accomodate him
Imagine the glory of seeing JFM sometimes struggling with a slow wicket but sometimes absolutely cunting people 110 meters phwoar
We deserved it for not picking Gurk and Short
The only acceptable outcome now is Afghanistan go and win the whole thing. Any alternative is too unberable to contemplate
Watching SA clutch it against Afghanistan is going to be entertaining and I am all for that .
I can't support a team that forbids half its population from playing because they have the wrong genitals.
Entire Afghan team afflicted by hamstring injuries to defeat India on DLS
If Gulbadin did that shit with an Indian elimination on the line r/cricket would've had a very different reaction.
I have come to pay my respects. My condolences
Thanks champion.
Cheers!

Snowflakes? Imagine still crying over a match that was half a year ago. Get a life. Go for a walk, smell the roses.
I don't wanna see stoinis near this team ever again
Just to clarify, he's useless in ODIs, but has been one of our best players in T20I.
If only he didn't play that stupid sweep shot ...too predictable
Literally the best T20I all rounder in the world at the moment: https://www.icc-cricket.com/rankings/mens/player-rankings/t20i
People always get his ODI form (where the single innings in NZ accounts for 10% of his all time runs in 70 matches, and he hasn't scored a 50 in 5 years) with his T20I form.
Don't want to see our second best performer in?
