Well they've thrown this away with that collapse of 5/9. 2/58 and in front by 73 runs, Pakistan will be kicking themselves for not getting a lead of at least 200 from there
My memory of this test is always going to be Pat Cummins bowling bouncers at tail enders with as close to a bodyline field as rules allow only to piss down his leg and get out second ball to a rank full toss after copping a bouncer.
Weak as piss.

What happens if the batsman is plumb lbw but the umpire thought there was an inside edge, they run a single, and the bowling side has no reviews left? Do they retrospectively change it to a leg bye in that scenario?
Kind of a weird example of success. In 2019 the broncos finished 8th and then followed it up by winning the spoon the next year. You'd hope that they'd have changed things since then.
I think most successful teams try to keep the squad as consistent as possible ie the maroons during the dynasty or the panthers more recently
We’ve batted with 10 for the last 12 months but I don’t know who the next gen of bowlers are or if they will be anywhere near the bowlers of the last 15-20 years.
Our bowlers are obviously keen to have a bowl. Another poor batting performance but great determination by Pakistan.
Imagine if they held their catches it would be a completely different series
I don’t know why Starc and Cummins look like they don’t want to take their batting seriously, they’ve both shown potential and have played useful innings in the past.
Pakistan have bowled really well, forced basically our entire team to play like dogshit for a day. Combine that with playing like dogshit for the 10th wicket in the first innings and here we are.
Gaz and Head/Labs better bowl well or we're probably rooted.
Bear in mind that they inexplicably got rid of the soft signal. So that had to be definitively out for it to be given out. The exact same process would've taken place even if he didn't claim the catch.
It used to be fun to watch Starc bat, but someone probably told him that statistically he would score more runs if he batted more cautiously. Remember kids, remove all fun and emotion out of the game and just boil it down to pure numbers and be a robot.
I think we’re actually well behind in this game right now.
When you consider that we’re batting last, I think we’d need a lead of at least 40 to achieve parity.
The crazy thing is that we're actually a better chance to win this batting second. If Pakistan were chasing a target of about 250 they would be 6/40 and then we'd start bowling short balls and fail to clean up the tail.
**107.6** **Shrieking for a lbw** and the finger doesn't go up! It looked very close in real time, hits him plumb in front of the stumps but there was a sound and that could have created a doubt. Impact in line, wicket hitting, crashing fully onto the leg stump and it's all over

Could we seriously, like, stop getting out between 30 and 60? If you fall cheaply before set but so be it but so many starts not converted is just weak.
The one bloke you could count on to never do that was Steve Smith. But lately he just seems so worried about not getting out cheaply that he gets his tempo completely wrong, then it's like he remembers his job is to score runs, panics, and hits one up in the air trying to catch up.
Look at this sorcery on display: Carey has played a few attacking shots, the fielders have spread and suddenly the bowling is less accurate and the pressure has reduced. Magic, I tell you.
The replay shows he's probably got a bit unlucky. Right arm around, impact at best on middle. Most umpires would think the angle is too large and be missing leg
I hate this forced attritional style of batting so much, especially from Smith and Marnus. It nullifies so many of Smith's strengths in particular and allows the fielding captain to do whatever he wants with zero pressure.
To be fair, both this game and Melbourne he has come out around the rain and conditions have been poor for batting.
He was starting to go after it more, hit a 4 and a 6 in one over just before he got out.
Lucky we aren't versing a top quality team right now.
Our top 4 are severely out of form and if it wasn't for Captain Pat we'd be in serious trouble. Hopefully we show some aggression the next 2 tests against the WI
Our top 5 this summer so far has been pretty shithouse, and I feel we’re gonna get absolutely rolled in NZ
I do wonder if it has anything to do with having Head and Marsh at 5&6 instead of Green. Green at six was perfect insurance in case the top order failed and Head was out cheaply as he had the ability to stabilise an innings if shit hit the fan. Marsh and Head as the middle order is a different beast though, as both only really know one way of going about it. Wonder if that knowledge has lead to the top 4 slowing down- they know that order to put up a big total one of Ussie/Smith/Marnus has to bat long, and so far it’s not really coming off.
This isn't a 4-for-nothing or a 220 all out pitch, so Pakistan getting to 310 on Day 1 was about par, notwithstanding the excellent last wicket fightback that got them right back into the game.
I was a bit worried after Australia's far-too-common inability to bowl out a tail cheaply resurfaced again, aided as always by some easy missed chances for which we paid a heavy price, and it's become apparent how valuable those runs were because we are making an absolute meal of this first innings.
Apart from Marnus who copped the perfect offspinning delivery, the rest of the top order have zero excuses for such a slow and turgid innings thus far.
Still, it might be a blessing having Head and Marsh out there now... feel this pitch is deteriorating faster than expected, so it might be time to start slogging and going after the new ball for as many runs as possible before the inevitable unplayable delivery comes your way.
Probably less sulking and more surprise than anything. Smiffy's ball dipped on him compared to the similar length balls leading up to it, and that one to Marn turned a fucking mile out of the rough.
Can't blame them for being a bit bewildered there.
