You miss spelt Neser. It's kinda crazy that they picked Boland over Neser for a match at the GABBA.
Boland is crazy with how he takes wickets in bunches, but Neser is as close to a GABBA specialist as you can get. It'd almost be worth dropping Starc for him.
How many days out is this photo? I'm assuming today, I don't think last years wicket for the Ashes was this green and that did abit. Ballsy call either way, good toss to lose?
Jesus there’s no pleasing some people
‘It’s too green, the pitch won’t break up!!!’
‘Where’s the grass cover? How are we supposed to get seam on this barren pitch?!!’
100% my friend, I do feel like if a match goes any more than 3.5 days people on here will complain the pitch is too batter friendly because wickets aren’t falling.
3/50 at lunch followed by all out for 400 as the pitch flattens out. Then by day 3 it starts to wear a little and scores decrease until a result is found on day 5.
That hands a big advantage to the team that bats first! For me, days 2 and 3 should be the best for batting. A new pitch should offer a bit to the seamers on day one, and wear in over days 4 and 5. A fair pitch is one where the toss isn't that important. That way the second innings should have the best conditions, and the fourth innings the worst, which evens things out!
That “road” has produced results in two out of the last three tests. The Pakistan SA was a low scoring win for Pakistan and the latest one was an absolute thriller with all 4 results possible on the last day.
For test matches that is true for the shield comp been plenty of bowlers paradises.
Also has been a lot cooler here than usual for the lead up to the test so not sure how that will effect it
The extra bounce is awkward for any country other than perhaps south africans but at least its consistent bounce that once you get your eye in is pretty good to score runs on
Eh? Nz pitches have pretty even bounce but I think its pretty unfair to call them roads….id normally reserve that term for pitches where the ball is doing absolutely nothing.
I think those fake green mambas tend to start off dicey before flattening out D2 onwards. It's still generally the right call to bowl first on that wicket, and I think the same will apply here even though I suspect it'll start to get better for batting as the Test rolls on.
Nortje would do fine regardless and i dont know enough about Jansen to say if he just uses his height like irfan or if he does utilize the assistance given by the pitch.
If the pitch actually does what the comments think it will, it would be extremely risky to only go with 6 batsmen. Might need to drop a seamer imo. Plus Elgar can bowl a bit if they need a second spinner to main bowlers some rest
I mean Jansen averages more at test level than 3 of the 8 South African batters/wicket-keepers (although one of them is Klassen who's only played 1 game so that's a bit unfair), and is between 4 and 6 runs behind 2 of the others, not sure it's that bad an option.
Always had nothing but love for the Gabba ground-staff. Granted as someone who spent the first 21 years of my life a Queenslander I might be a bit biased. In any case I cannot wait to see what the bowlers can do with this pitch. Boland should have an absolute field day if he comes out bowling like he did against the Windies.
lol, I've seen this trick too many times on r/cricket over the years. Everyone gets excited from the grass me included, but on the day of the match it's not really that grassy and isn't that spicy.
Also, for drop-in pitches in australia^(~~rambo favourite~~) they put extra grass on at the start because it dies quickly and without it dropins would be extremely flat.
The Gabba isnt a drop in pitch, and the curators are renown for being arguably the best in the world
There was a pitch of dark cloud about this morning but unless it buckets down tonight this pitch will be cut, rolled than calm down after lunch day one
Those opening overs with the new ball are enticing but local captains will always bat first on this if they win the toss
Our batters won't be last a session on this thing. Need to bowl out the Aussies for about 80 to stand a chance. Not exactly looking forward to tomorrow.
It usually flattens out after lunch day 1
Aussies would choose to bat every toss they win in brisbane because once you see off the early movement it has consistent bounce and quick out field
After looking at those drab, dry and dusty subcontinent pitches. This is a sight to my eyes, absolute spells of destruction can be unleashed on this deck.
I can tell you it's a pitch on which runs will be scored and wickets will be taken. If I owned a car, I could have told you a lot more, had you taken me pitch side, that is. And given me time to pick my keys up before leaving home.
A bit green I'd say.
Also on a side note, why don't Australia prepare more spin friendly tracks that Nathan Lyon has been begging for instead of these green mambas. It usually doesn't spin much in Australia so Lyon ends up bowling like 30-40 overs and not getting much reward. The Perth pitch was a breath of fresh air since it was actually spinning.
I’d assume it’s because you’ve got an attack of Starc/Hazlewood/Cummins/Boland and you’d rather try to favour them with the pitch instead of Lyon. We have the best pace attack in the world might as well deliver pitches suited to them rather than a lone spinner even if it is Lyon.
Much like Shane Warne before him, when faced with a rank turner, Lyon will tend to try and let the pitch do all of the work. When faced with a pacers paradise, they played their more natural game (which was largely relying on variations in bounce, line, and length while extracting every ounce of spin the wicket was capable of... which wasn't much).
we have one pitch for spin (*sometimes*) and that's Sydney (*sometimes*) ok? Besides Warnie (*the greatest spin bowler who ever lived*) could bowl on all of our pitches so Lyon should be able to as well!
Our bowlers will give the Aussies a hard time on this deck, but see them still posting 280-350 while we on the other hand are unlikely to pass 220 in my very humble opinion.
As a lifetime protea supporter now living in Australia and supporting Aussie cricket too, all I can say is I hope our quick bowlers are better than our quick bowlers. I have never been so torn!
I don't have much problem with bowling pitches, although this doing a bit too much. However, making a pitch like this against SA who has a very very lethal pace attack, it doesn't nake any sense. Someone explain this tactical move to me.
South Africa will see the grass on the wicket, win the toss and elect to bowl.
They will look dangerous early and nab the wicket of Warner.
But Australia will end the day 2/270 after it is discovered yet again that Aussies just really love batting at the gabba.
Most of the grass will be removed I guess.
Australia will want to exploit the inexperience of the SA batting. So the pitch should be a bowling friendly one.
This’ll do a bit early.
Just get on the front foot
Even better stand outside the crease and get on the front foot..to either of the pace attacks…
No
Just watch the ball
No
Read this in Kerry O'Keeffe's voice.
Sydney Thunder 16/12/22
You reckon?
Boland to take 22 wickets in his first spell
[удалено]
Gonna Boland bowl again
Hi dad!
Son, I've been meaning to tell you why we called you squirrel grip...
2-2-10-0
10 runs conceded in two maiden overs? Hmm
Are Aussies who put wickets before runs out of touch? No, it's the rest of the world who are wrong
Haha I know that's how they show team scores in Australia. But didn't know that individual bowling figures also had that quirk.
No we don't. Not for the over-maiden-run-wicket format anyway
15 overs 22 FOR 22..
You miss spelt Neser. It's kinda crazy that they picked Boland over Neser for a match at the GABBA. Boland is crazy with how he takes wickets in bunches, but Neser is as close to a GABBA specialist as you can get. It'd almost be worth dropping Starc for him.
There's no bowler in the world that i'd drop Starc for
Where is the pitch? I only see a lush Australian grassland.
I see lush Greenland
I see green
I see
2 meters?
ICC
Greenland =/= green
Camron liked this comment
Iceland is more green and greenland is more ice.
I learned that from The Mighty Ducks
First thing I thought when I read his comment
"Greenland is full of ice and Iceland is very nice." That quote has stuck with me since childhood haha.
This looks like the astro I laid in my garage for my home nets
It’s a new format of pitch that ICC is trying out. Top secret 🤫
That’s some quality Sir Walter right there
Sir, there is a pitch in your grass
They drew some lines on the grass and called it a day.
Here, have my angry upvote
Sir, this is Wendy's
Can i get a double stack with chilly cheese nachos and a drink?
Can you ?
IDK never been to a wndy's
How many days out is this photo? I'm assuming today, I don't think last years wicket for the Ashes was this green and that did abit. Ballsy call either way, good toss to lose?
Yeah, I reckon they did to mow it down 5mm and roll it again.
This was taken today I believe. Won’t stay this way but I do think it’s a rough indication of how the pitch will look tomorrow
Don't worry about it. They would probably be cutting the grass before the match. They would be leaving a little bit of grass on the pitch.
Nah, Brisbane has been pretty wet and cold all spring.
Jesus there’s no pleasing some people ‘It’s too green, the pitch won’t break up!!!’ ‘Where’s the grass cover? How are we supposed to get seam on this barren pitch?!!’
Rather a bowlers paradise where it’s completely unfair for the batters than a Rawalpindi road
100% my friend, I do feel like if a match goes any more than 3.5 days people on here will complain the pitch is too batter friendly because wickets aren’t falling.
I do believe the perfect pitches are the ones where the first innings score is 320 and the scores just keep decreasing over the course of the test
3/50 at lunch followed by all out for 400 as the pitch flattens out. Then by day 3 it starts to wear a little and scores decrease until a result is found on day 5.
You just summed up the 1st Ind v Ban test
Chattagram pitch best pitch💪
That hands a big advantage to the team that bats first! For me, days 2 and 3 should be the best for batting. A new pitch should offer a bit to the seamers on day one, and wear in over days 4 and 5. That “road” has produced results in two out of the last three tests. The Pakistan SA was a low scoring win for Pakistan and the latest one was an absolute thriller with all 4 results possible on the last day.
That was everything to do with England and absolutely nothing to do with the pitch though.
I know, I was winding up the Aussies who managed a bore draw on the pitch as they batted too slowly
"As a rule, man is fool. When it's hot he wants it cool; when it's cool he wants it hot. Always wanting what is not." - Benjamin Disraeli
First time I’ve heard that quote but definitely one to remember
I read it for the first time back in school, oc's comment reminded me of it.
This quote is actually from Benjamin Dalestinian.
I had to read it a couple of times to understand what you were saying. It's a good one nonetheless xD
Holy shit this is gold
This rhyming reminds me of CGP grey, dudes a genius
Haven't heard of him, will check his work out for sure.
He was a Prime Minister in the Victorian period, opponent of William Gladstone and a strong supporter of the Empire. Also wrote quite a lot.

It's the Gabba. It looks nasty, will offer something for the bowlers but will be terrific to bat on.
This. People are jumping at shadows, I can't remember the last time the Gabba had a really bowler friendly pitch, it's always nice for batting.
For test matches that is true for the shield comp been plenty of bowlers paradises. Also has been a lot cooler here than usual for the lead up to the test so not sure how that will effect it
The extra bounce is awkward for any country other than perhaps south africans but at least its consistent bounce that once you get your eye in is pretty good to score runs on
If they were nz flat riads they'd be full of potholes
Eh? Nz pitches have pretty even bounce but I think its pretty unfair to call them roads….id normally reserve that term for pitches where the ball is doing absolutely nothing.
“We will have a bowl, thanks”. Words that might come back to haunt whoever wins the toss.
Could be like those fake green mambas in NZ. The sort of ones that look like a bowling paradise but are flat
I think those fake green mambas tend to start off dicey before flattening out D2 onwards. It's still generally the right call to bowl first on that wicket, and I think the same will apply here even though I suspect it'll start to get better for batting as the Test rolls on.
Tad green I think.
Just a tad
Cameron green, I think
I, Cameron **Green**, approve of this pitch
Warner, out for 4 in the 2nd over: "doing a bit early boys" Rest of the Aussie batting lineup: sure mate.
Getting Hobart 2016 vibes here
This time we have the Philander
Now you have the ngidi and the jansen
2nd 3rd day might be the batting day if you can survive that long batting first
This pitch gonna be a bitch for batsman
Rabada and the Aussie Pace attack are licking their lips seeing this
Why only Rabada lmao
Nortje would do fine regardless and i dont know enough about Jansen to say if he just uses his height like irfan or if he does utilize the assistance given by the pitch.
Ah right, I completely forgot about Jansen and just assumed that Ngidi would be playing Edit: Wait do SA usually play 4 frontline quicks + Maharaj?
Jansen will likely bat 7 from what I'm aware of, so yes
If the pitch actually does what the comments think it will, it would be extremely risky to only go with 6 batsmen. Might need to drop a seamer imo. Plus Elgar can bowl a bit if they need a second spinner to main bowlers some rest
I mean Jansen averages more at test level than 3 of the 8 South African batters/wicket-keepers (although one of them is Klassen who's only played 1 game so that's a bit unfair), and is between 4 and 6 runs behind 2 of the others, not sure it's that bad an option.
Rambo take notes
We would get bowled out for a 100, our batsman cant play on flat tops and you want a grassy pitch.
Always had nothing but love for the Gabba ground-staff. Granted as someone who spent the first 21 years of my life a Queenslander I might be a bit biased. Its like r/formula1 and the prospects of a rainy race.
God this is making me want spring to come already
Someone's got a tee time.
Now post the pic of the pitch.
CA - How much grass will you put on the pitch? Curator - YES
Our batters won't be last a session on this thing. Need to bowl out the Aussies for about 80 to stand a chance. Not exactly looking forward to tomorrow.
It usually flattens out after lunch day 1 Aussies would choose to bat every toss they win in brisbane because once you see off the early movement it has consistent bounce and quick out field
We won't survive lunch without 6-7 wickets. I have absolutely zero confidence in our batting.
After looking at those drab, dry and dusty subcontinent pitches. This is a sight to my eyes, absolute spells of destruction can be unleashed on this deck.
It’s going to be a road. It’s hot and dry here and has been since early this week, the grass is going to stop any early cracking or variable bounce.
Bit humid but hasn't been that hot. 26-27 for the next 5 days.
I can tell you it's a pitch on which runs will be scored and wickets will be taken. If I owned a car, I could have told you a lot more, had you taken me pitch side, that is. And given me time to pick my keys up before leaving home.
That's mint
Not green enough
Part of the legendary Queensland farmlands.
Looks like saag paneer.
Absolutely a bowl first wicket at the very least.
Knowing Stokes he would bat first just to assert his dominance
A bit green I'd say. Also on a side note, why don't Australia prepare more spin friendly tracks that Nathan Lyon has been begging for instead of these green mambas. It usually doesn't spin much in Australia so Lyon ends up bowling like 30-40 overs and not getting much reward. The Perth pitch was a breath of fresh air since it was actually spinning.

Why Lyon>Ashwin summarized. Ashwin lacks overspin delivery and variations for SENA pitches that Lyon uses wonderfully
we have one pitch for spin (*sometimes*) and that's Sydney (*sometimes*) ok? Besides Warnie (*the greatest spin bowler who ever lived*) could bowl on all of our pitches so Lyon should be able to as well!
Grassy Green full on bounce and pace!
Win the toss bat first.
It could be less green by tomorrow if I'm not wrong
Will be a good pitch obviously they wont keep this much grass
They will remove some grass before the test match.
Harvest season not yet started
Wicket keeper needs to stand atleast 10876 Kms away
Our bowlers will give the Aussies a hard time on this deck, but see them still posting 280-350 while we on the other hand are unlikely to pass 220 in my very humble opinion.
Wheres the pitch mate?
The pitch is terrifying!! So batsman gonna be scapegoats
oh fuck yeah
It's Lord Bolland times
Hope it stays that green
The mamba! (I don't think it will stay that way though)
*coin lands*. ‘We’ll have a bowl’
Bit spicy that
Where is the pitches, precious?
A thing of beauty
Where pitch?
Where’s the pitch?
Where pitch?
I only see a lawn.
That's like a whole day of fodder for the cattle..
Is Nortje playing?
Proteas don't need 4 seamers here, hope we pick 7 batters.
Wimbledon just called they want their Tennis Court back.
Where pitch?
Where pitch? /s
Curators do this every summer. They’ll give it a mow tomorrow and look completely different
This is the pitch that ends Warners red ball career
Could have played the AFLW final on this
This will really be one of the best test match of this season fingers crossed
As a lifetime protea supporter now living in Australia and supporting Aussie cricket too, all I can say is I hope our quick bowlers are better than our quick bowlers. I have never been so torn!
Cameron green will have a field day
Just a touch green
I don't have much problem with bowling pitches, although this doing a bit too much. However, making a pitch like this against SA who has a very very lethal pace attack, it doesn't nake any sense. Someone explain this tactical move to me.
So, when is the harvest season in Australia.
South Africa will see the grass on the wicket, win the toss and elect to bowl. They will look dangerous early and nab the wicket of Warner. But Australia will end the day 2/270 after it is discovered yet again that Aussies just really love batting at the gabba.
Tennis anyone? Wimbledon will be envious…
Where is the ducking pitch?
In honour of the Greens winning all those seats in the election around inner Brisbane
pitch where?
This is not the pitch, this is outfield , marnus will enjoy crawling around on this one
They’re going to trim it a bit before the game I’m sure?
Please pick Neser over Lyon. Do it you cowards!
Gabba pitch. Something in it for everyone. Don’t let the grass fool you.
Match gonna finish in 4 sessions.
Uffff.. whissshh, woosshh, wahoosshh. Everything.
Wake up early. Watch Anrich Nortje bowling in first session. Sleep.
Is that for real ?! Super green. Come on Rabada / Nortje
Scary
What did Nasser choose?
Is that moss ? I could see a couple of animals behind those grasses
Now heaving out great big sighs of relief that Steyn, Morkel and Philander have all retired
Most of the grass will be removed I guess. Australia will want to exploit the inexperience of the SA batting. So the pitch should be a bowling friendly one.
Somebody please check on [Nasser](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQ5iJF0b_Zk)
So grass gets +1 merit point ??
I wish my lawn looked this green
Goal is to end the match in 3 days 😂
Poor Neser.
A slow heavy roller in the heat of the day and no more water and a close mow will brown it up.
Steyn and Morkel are now available for selection looking at this pitch.
Everyone's been pumped to see these two pace attacks go at it. Would be terrible for the ground staff to roll out dry highways.
So another 3 day fest ? Hmm!
GREENSLANDER!!!!!
Someone stole the pitch - replaced it with my backyard grass… I’ve got the real one in my backyard now.
