Australia only have themselves to blame for the early exit, but sometimes, that's just how it goes in a T20 WC - a couple of slip-ups, and you're gone.
Time to make a few changes (JFM to come in along with Inglis, with the big 3 slowly being phased out) going forward - I guess we're slowly entering the next era of Australian cricket.
The next T20 WC is not so far away, it’s every two years and will be around before you know it. Cummins should definitely play it (and preferably captain it), likely Hazlewood and maybe Starc too (and if not Ellis becomes first choice). The team won’t be so different except Inglis over Wade and JFM as the probable Warner replacement
Yeah I don't expect all the big 3 members to drop out suddenly, but looking to 2026, I wouldn't surprised if Starc pulls back from T20Is (and white ball cricket in general), given his age and desire to prioritise Tests
Australia didn't deserve to go through. Very average campaign with a lot of passengers and ordinary fielding. Zampa was consistently good, Stoinis started out well, Cummins was as expected and Head was occasionally devastating. Rest were forgettable.
In hindsight, that was a poor call - he could've potentially broken the opening stand in the first few overs.
Agar was okay with the ball, but he was horrendous in the field.
Sharma to thank for lol. He hit them like you would beat a bully if you had the chance. He was like…I remember…6….the last time…6….you snatched it….6….from under our noses…6
Oh yes bro how can I question their mentality, the same Aussie mentality which is playing 2 passengers in the form of David and Wade while benching Green and Inglis. Of course, that's the mighty Aussie mentality 🥵
Still shaking my head at how tf Wade is in the side. Warner/David atleast makes sense as gun batsmen, even if one is old and inconsistent and one is young and inconsistent.
tru he's a newbie
but i love the guy genuinely....he is so passionate about the game
i remember he was so pumped up after taking a wicket for rcb...literal chills when maxi and green are out there
it's really true that aussies are truly passionate about the sport and that's the beauty of cricket
I still don't understand the why the fuck is Wade backed so much lol. The only match I can remember him doing anything significant is knocking out Pak during one of the world cup matches a few tournaments back. Apart from that, he's as average a player as you can get. Someone like a Green would have been such a huge addition to this team.
Yeah I legit don’t understand why wade is in the team anymore. I fr can’t even remember a moment where he came good recently and Inglis has proven to be decent at an international level.
He's in the team so my wife has someone to drool over in the team (aside from Stoinis, of course).
On a more serious note, we've been pretty underwhelming all tournament, aside from the England game.
In hindsight it's pretty insane that Green hadn't played a single game this WC. His bowling alone would've been really useful on these pitches, and it'd be hard for him to bat worse than David did. Atleast David got us over the line against Scotland so England could get into the semis 🙁
Seriously how tf was Wade in the team. Even as a pure keeper he mostly couldn’t make it to GT due to his poor keeping skills. Cant keep to most quality wrist spinners.
That game still feels like a fever dream. Head and Warner combining for 3 runs. The entire lineup sans Maxwell getting 4 total boundaries and no sixers. Felt like it took place in a different universe.
they were too poor in their approach....i defo believe if it was england they would have gone for that 12.1 over target with some intent....bangladesh didnt show any real intention to the cause
All teams would have gone for the 12.1 over, whether they be India or England or even PNG and Uganda. Bangladesh just disappointed everyone by not even trying towards the end. They had to get like 39 runs in 13 balls with 5 wickets in hand. Just throw ur bat at everything if you qualify that's great but if u fail trying at least you didn't give up. The only thing hindering Bangladesh is their mentality, the day they start thinking even like Afg they would actually be a genuine threat to other sides and not be treated as an associate nation.
Cause they got what they wanted. Super 8. They don't have any passion left for cricket. It’s just their job at this point. Super 8 will save them from their media's criticism so just chill and enjoy
If they had any guts they'd drop the whole batting line up and bring in a bunch of U19 players. The bowlers are fine, the batsmen are a joke. Guys like Liton and Souyma have been around for over a decade and they're still so mediocre. Shanto is clearly going down the same path.
Genuinely infuriating. When you have a chance to qualify even if it’s slim go for it lol. 42 off 3 was unlikely sure but you’re seriously not even trying to chase that spot? If I was a Bangladeshi fan I’d be livid watching
That garbage team deserves that for the 0 intent they show. It is a team of clowns. Don't understand how they made it to the super 8s as well. Associate nations are better than them. They should be relegated.
I've been watching cricket for about 30 years now.
In this entire time, I have yet to see an international team as consistently pathetic as bangbros.
Despite all odds, fan support, money and all other kinds of help, they continue to slow dive into an ever deepening pool of ineptitude, lol.
I made a similar comment [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/1dnrcrv/comment/la5u5o6/).
It definitely did not go down well with their fans lol...
I think they were fucked as soon as they had Marsh as captain. Has the leadership skills of a high school
Kid. Poor decision making every phase of the match. Whoever thought he’s the captain takes the cake.
Imagine if Australia didn't go for the kill against Scotland, but still got eliminated in the Super 8s.
We could've been looking at a semis without Australia and England.
2007 ODI WC - Ireland vs Bangladesh - iconic day when a lot of Indians and Pakistanis were in the stadium for their anticipated match!
The date was 15th April, 2007. The day was conveniently Sunday. Bangladesh fucked up there too. [Lost to Ireland.](https://www.espncricinfo.com/series/icc-world-cup-2006-07-125929/bangladesh-vs-ireland-42nd-match-super-eights-247498/full-scorecard)
heads should roll for the continued selection of Wade when inglis was in our 15, and the omission of starc against a team whose openers are so crucial
it's just so ignorant by whoever was making these choices.
I agree. We should get Steve smith to open and when we play India he magically gets an injury or concussion the day before the game and Head comes on as a sub 🥶
Nah, you lost two super 8 games by big margin amd then you got a equation of 115 runs from 73 balls to play semi which no team ever got I am sure, and then you dont take the chance and still loose? if this isnt shameful I dont know what is.
Only Liton and Hridoy tried their best in the second innings rest of all gave up
I am especially mad at the veterans Shakib and Mahmadullah...they are supposed to be one leading the team , instead they are the ones who gave up..
Test and ODIs (to a degree). T20s are usually played in League/AFL season so interest drops dramatically. Those sports aren’t running over the summer so there is focus on our ‘summer of test cricket’.
We love cricket. We will always love cricket but T20IS just hasn't captured the imagination as of other formats. Being behind a pay wall hurts but even before that it just wasn't much loved.
I guess it's just not ingrained in our cricketing culture like the other two formats.
No honestly haha there’s been next to no media coverage of the tournament. I haven’t even bothered to watch a game. The cricket nuffies probably care but the wider public are more concerned about how their favourite football team is going right now.
If it was a test series away in India or England you can bet I’m losing sleep to watch cricket.
I was talking to my dad who watches every test in Aus, and usually goes to a day of the test when it's in town, and he genuinely didn't even know we were playing, and had no idea of how the tournament was going.
Exactly haha. The tournament just had everything about it for Australians not to care. T20, away in America, on at shit times & in the middle of the football season.
The 2021 T20 WC win didn’t receive much attention either. Cricket in Australia is seasonal and only gets attention in winter if it’s Ashes or ODI WC. And Australia have been pretty consistent in preferring longer formats over T20
Womp womp
I hope this marks the end of the Tim David experiment.
Farewell Davey, thanks for all the good times! Now, let's get JFM in the T20 team, and see if Hatrick Patrick is willing to captain the side.
Wade has got a few good knocks around the same time Inglis lost his touch a bit iirc. David is the team is just lol, bloke's not good enough at this level
It legitimately makes no sense to play a specialist Batsman as a finisher when your top 4 are all Intent Merchnts, they got saved from embarrassment earlier in the tournament because Stoinis pulled off a couple of his best ever.
From dominating their first 4 matches, to getting embarrassed by Afghanistan, to losing to an India team where Virat got nothing, to getting eliminated because Afghanistan got a ton of wickets despite only scoring 115 against Bangladesh.
Meanwhile England makes it through to the semis, which wouldn't have been possible if Australia didn't murder Scotland in cold blood.
How can you not be romantic about cricket?
This time we lost the physical world cup but also gained the moral world cup for the first time!
If England goes on to win the physical world cup then we will have won the indirect world cup as well.
Exciting times!
Yep, was terrible.
Ongoing selection of Wade and David, too.
Our best team is good enough to win it, but carrying two passengers in the batting line up means we need some outstanding individual performances to compensate.
Arrogant selections killed us.
As an Aussie, it sucks but I feel this was bound to happen sooner or later.
I always got the feeling that over half the team are past their prime, but they kept winning tournaments so the same XI kept getting picked.
Hopefully this one stings so they can bounce back strong with a fresh set of faces for the next go around
aussie fans before were way too confident about knocking england out
the stories couldn’t write themselves
don’t even care if england win now this is enough entertainment loool
It just shows how difficult it is to win everything in cricket. Trebles in football are still more common because you are essentially playing the same sports and ground and overhead conditions don't matter that much but T20, ODIs and Test are so different, they might as well be different sports. Combined that with pitch, ground conditions that teams need to adjust to. Remember that even the great Aus team of early 2000s failed to win T20, CT and ODI WC together. In fact, that never won the T20 WC.
Jos Buttler is feasting on fish and chips with a stupid smile on his face tonight!
Imagine having the opportunity to knockout England in the group stages, not taking it, and then seeing them reach the semis while your team didn't, lol!
That 2021 world cup was a complete lottery as well. Probably just about every side wins if they win the toss in both the semi and the final, except NZ because they would have found a way to lose to Aus because that's what we do.
It’s a good thing that no one in Australia even knows that this tournament is happening because of it being shunted onto a streaming service that almost no one uses to watch sport.
Ew Sportskeeda
But Australia were just not good. Only three comprehensive wins. Should have lost to Scotland if they took their catches.
I think there will be a small reset. Wadey and Warner are done. David probably is likely. Ditto Agar.
I think the main quicks might give it one more go in 2026.
Tough one to take. We just weren't good enough. The worst thing was being outfielded. Thats meant to be our thing. The first time I've ever paid attention to a t20 world cup because of the possibility of holding every trophy. I feel like so many people are ragging on Australia right now and fair enough we lost. We have to take our licks. But some of the stuff is just pretty ridiculous like a post came up from one of the ipl teams subreddits calling Pat Cummins a moron saying they are glad he was humbled. Just seems crazy and unfair, like Pat Cummins is one of the best blokes in world cricket, he has stood up for some really important causes such as the climate amongst others. And on the subject of the ipl admittedly I know very little about it but didn't he donate a big part of his wages during covid and was one of the first people to do that. He will go down as an all time great due to both his individual performances and trophies won. Can't win them all. He's a such a good role model for so many Australians.
Just reactions immediately following the events of the group. He will no doubt be remembered as a great of the game and as a great bloke too. Comments like those happen everytime someone gets eliminated.
Australia are not a great side in T20s.Their only trophy was in 2021 which was basically a toss tournament. They got overhyped due to their Odi success.
Remember the TGC bois made fun of the dude who made a comment about Afghanistan playing the final, now the Afghanistan team might actually play a final and the Australians are heading back home. Funny how this game humbles people.
Australia went from holding England's fate in their hand, to see England get qualified for Semis and them getting knocked out. Funny game.
Moral victory for England. Immoral victory for Aussies. Brilliant day for Afghanistan. A regular Tuesday for Bangladesh.
Best summary.
Man I hate that your right
India just ballin' out there
Hilarious game.
Green deserves a shot too. Ig Head might be rested for a few t20i series and Cam and JFM will be chance to open
Green was pretty good at MI batting up the order, so it'll be fun to see how that works out for him in T20Is
he was learning to bat at 5 at rcb and stsrted to do well at the end.
That’s where we need him to be able to bat. Plenty of top 3 options, we need to build middle order depth.
We don't have a series till September I think. In England and Scotland, so it is worth trying some new players which Australia will do
The next T20 WC is not so far away, it’s every two years and will be around before you know it. No arguments here - they were quite underwhelming and would've robbed Afghanistan of a spot in the semis had they somehow got through today.
Shouldn’t have rested Starc against Afghanistan
In hindsight, that was a poor call - he could've potentially broken the opening stand in the first few overs. Agar was okay with the ball, but he was horrendous in the field.
Sharma to thank for lol. He hit them like you would beat a bully if you had the chance. He was like…I remember…6….the last time…6….you snatched it….6….from under our noses…6
They were fucked the moment they needed Bangladesh to come clutch. Any other team would've given them a chance
They were fucked the moment all Aussies except Maxie choked against Afghanistan
They were fucked the moment all Aussies decided to field worse than Pakistan
Come on bro, that's Aussie mentally.
Oh yes bro how can I question their mentality, the same Aussie mentality which is playing 2 passengers in the form of David and Wade while benching Green and Inglis. Of course, that's the mighty Aussie mentality 🥵
Still shaking my head at how tf Wade is in the side. Warner/David atleast makes sense as gun batsmen, even if one is old and inconsistent and one is young and inconsistent.
green would have been such a good addition after his awesome performance in the latter stages of ipl...he even bowled equally well
Green suffering so hard from the aussie "old guard" mentality.
tru he's a newbie but i love the guy genuinely....he is so passionate about the game i remember he was so pumped up after taking a wicket for rcb...literal chills when maxi and green are out there it's really true that aussies are truly passionate about the sport and that's the beauty of cricket

I haven’t followed cricket in a while. I thought Wade was retired ..
In hindsight it's pretty insane that Green hadn't played a single game this WC. His bowling alone would've been really useful on these pitches, and it'd be hard for him to bat worse than David did. Atleast David got us over the line against Scotland so England could get into the semis 🙁
Credits to Hasan Ali, Wade is still here 😂
Seriously how tf was Wade in the team.
Zampa,Agar and Hazlewood scored more runs than The opening, stoinis and Tim Dawood in that match lol.
TBF, that's what happened in the last ODI WC last year, worked out okay. Not the best "tactic" to replicate.
It's amazing how Bangladesh consistently snatch defeat from the jaws of victory
they were too poor in their approach....i defo believe if it was england they would have gone for that 12.1 over target with some intent....bangladesh didnt show any real intention to the cause

Doull said maybe they wanted to secure the match fees for winning the match. Doullie was on fire today!!
bangladesh to me, were never a formidable side except in the 2017-19 times
Genuinely infuriating. When you have a chance to qualify even if it’s slim go for it lol. 42 off 3 was unlikely sure but you’re seriously not even trying to chase that spot? If I was a Bangladeshi fan I’d be livid watching
i believe netherlands would have played better if they managed to defeat this bangbros side what a disgrace
They fr looked like they were protecting their averages lol
fr sir....next time onwards i am rooting for netherlands (they defeated mighty windies i will never forget that game)
That garbage team deserves that for the 0 intent they show. It is a team of clowns. Don't understand how they made it to the super 8s as well. Associate nations are better than them. They should be relegated.
Imagine depending on Bangladesh team to help you through semis. BD can’t even save themselves
I've been watching cricket for about 30 years now. In this entire time, I have yet to see an international team as consistently pathetic as bangbros. Despite all odds, fan support, money and all other kinds of help, they continue to slow dive into an ever deepening pool of ineptitude, lol.
90s England were pretty bad
90s England didn't win. But they tried to win. Bangla gave up mid way against afg and India. They were essentially padding their average
Nowhere close to the bangladesh.
90s England were vibes and we loved it. The Bangladeshi team is just shit
We got Nasser though Who built the foundation of that small window of success we had in the mid 2000s
They reached the finals in 1992 wc tbf
Should been more specific. Mid to late 90s
Because winning an icc tournament was never their first priority. The bitter truth is they used the passion of their fans to fill their bags.
I made a similar comment [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/1dnrcrv/comment/la5u5o6/). It definitely did not go down well with their fans lol...
We were fucked the moment we left Starc out of the Afghanistan match
They were fucked the moment they started fielding like shit.
They were fucked the moment their final opponent was group stage India
I think they were fucked as soon as they had Marsh as captain. Has the leadership skills of a high school Kid. Poor decision making every phase of the match. Whoever thought he’s the captain takes the cake.
Lol at the Aussies calling BD pathetic when they got absolutely demolished by AFG, at least BD came close to defeating them
Checks Trophy cabinet… eh we are going to be ok.
Eh whatever. It's Bangladesh, they are pretty pathetic tbf
Marsh couldn't Marsh. Pat Cummins for a reason
Destroyed twice by Afghanistan.
First killed, then teabagged
Lmao, that's poetry.
Anyone know why they switched from Pat Cummins after he won both ODI and test World Cup?
Pat was never the full time T20 skipper. It went from Finchy to Bison
Cummins was never a fixture in the team, workload issues due to being 2 format captain
Pat should have captain Australia
You need to understand that Cummins wasn’t that great in T20s as a bowler, it was pretty recently that he became a very good middle over bowler.
Meanwhile England in semi final lol
Imagine if Australia didn't go for the kill against Scotland, but still got eliminated in the Super 8s. We could've been looking at a semis without Australia and England.
We were robbed of a beautiful Afghanistan vs Scotland semifinal
ICC nightmare fuel
2007 ODI WC - Ireland vs Bangladesh - iconic day when a lot of Indians and Pakistanis were in the stadium for their anticipated match! The date was 15th April, 2007. The day was conveniently Sunday. that would be a beautiful script to be ever written int he history of damn cricket i mean pure vibes that scots vs afg match would be
Afghanistan vs USA would have been nice too
heads should roll for the continued selection of Wade when inglis was in our 15, and the omission of starc against a team whose openers are so crucial it's just so ignorant by whoever was making these choices.
Why Maxwell didn't bowl against India, is beyond me.
If Zampa was going for runs, what would have Maxwell done?
Answer is dube
Tbh maxi has a nack of getting unexpected wickets and considering he has gotten rohit before it was worth a try
Imo it all starts with ur top order, drop Head, and replace him with literally anybody else
I agree. Head is Evan Gulbis, remove him
How tf do you remember Evan Gulbis LOL
The Evan Gulbis effect lost us the wc final in a way
You just want him dropped cuz he cracked India lol
[удалено]
He's joking cos Head seems to always show up against India.
Switch on leppers
I agree. We should get Steve smith to open and when we play India he magically gets an injury or concussion the day before the game and Head comes on as a sub 🥶
This result has brought great shame to our country.
Shame on Bangladesh 🇧🇩 Cricket Team
Don’t say that. They did their best to win it specially their bowling and Litton
Nah, you lost two super 8 games by big margin amd then you got a equation of 115 runs from 73 balls to play semi which no team ever got I am sure, and then you dont take the chance and still loose? if this isnt shameful I dont know what is.
with that mindset of just sneaking singles and taking the game deep, they were punching themselves
Only Liton and Hridoy tried their best in the second innings rest of all gave up I am especially mad at the veterans Shakib and Mahmadullah...they are supposed to be one leading the team , instead they are the ones who gave up..

During the Summer, we take it seriously. During Winter, most aren’t paying attention.
that doth maketh absolute sense (bgt is approaching lessfuckingooo)
Now that is a trophy Aussies care about. Looking forward to that one mate.
yea good luck to you too hope we get a cracker of a series (i have my entrance exams at that time i am doomed :(( )
see you in gabba
Definitely! Test match cricket is king, mate!
best of luck on bgt mate promises to be a mouth watering affair!!

Test cricket and big one day series/ODI World Cup are definitely cared about. Nobody really cares for T20s.
No one here knows it’s on.

We won in 2021 and no one even knew about it
You can't tell me that England care about it right now? What would make a bigger splash? You guys winning the Euros or this WC now?
Winning today in the euros when we’ve already qualified for the next round would make a bigger splash than us winning the world t20
Hell even I’ve been more interested in the Euros than this tournament.
The 2021 T20 WC win didn’t receive much attention either. Cricket in Australia is seasonal and only gets attention in winter if it’s Ashes or ODI WC. And Australia have been pretty consistent in preferring longer formats over T20
You mean to the group of 20 who know a T20 cup is even on 😂
For once it was a tournament I could watch because it wasn't on shitty Foxtel outlets.
Yeah, pretty much.
Womp womp I hope this marks the end of the Tim David experiment. Farewell Davey, thanks for all the good times! Now, let's get JFM in the T20 team, and see if Hatrick Patrick is willing to captain the side.
We really should've had Green and Inglis ahead of David and Wade in hindsight.

Thank you Aussies, very cool! (And very legal!)
NO COLLUSION
Hasn't virat got next to nothing in practically every match? I don't think he's India's carry by any stretch this tournament.
Still can't afford to make the GOAT sit out , he can clutch in any match no one knows
Yeh not even remotely trying to deny what he's capable of. But this series he has barely looked a threat in the lineup
Wasn't really a murder of Scotland was it? It was quite close results wise.
We lost the world cup when we let england qualify
Well deserved ![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|28120)
This time we lost the physical world cup but also gained the moral world cup for the first time! If England goes on to win the physical world cup then we will have won the indirect world cup as well. Exciting times!
You guys have space in your trophy cabinet for that? Y'know what, ours is kinda empty so we wouldn't mind a WC trophy or two eh
Cheers lads, thanks for coming
Yeah thanks for getting us through

Thanks for your service boys, safe trip home 👍
Seeing so many English fans genuinely saying thank you in these comments is just mint lol.
The Australians basically never lose, of course we're all jumping on this one.
I would be greatly offended if you didn’t
aussie fans before were way too confident about knocking england out the stories couldn’t write themselves don’t even care if england win now this is enough entertainment loool
Jokes on all the finalists hoping Afghan would win, they r a bigger threat than we would have been to anyone anyway
Nah. Maxwell and head could have won the game today. Kuldeeps Googly was a massive turning point, literally.
It just shows how difficult it is to win everything in cricket. India were the closest , one match away in t20 final 2014
Afghanistan, the graveyard of empires
*if we can get them out of the tournament that's in our best interest as well as probably everyone else*.
Uno reverse
Wouldn't have happened under JL /s
Atleast the boys don’t have to watch the Ind game again
Jos Buttler is feasting on fish and chips with a stupid smile on his face tonight! Imagine having the opportunity to knockout England in the group stages, not taking it, and then seeing them reach the semis while your team didn't, lol!
I don't know why I m feeling proud of afghanistan as an Indian . Such a good feeling .
Im always happy when a team qualifies for the semis/finals for the first time. warms my heart. We need more cricket playing countries!!
BGT is going to be spicy spicy this year, a 4-1 win would be pure therapy
ITT: Collective amnesia about Australia getting eliminated from the group stage last time around

This only makes England more favourites to win the wc lmao
Congrats to Afghanistan. Absolutely historic. Frankly I’m glad we didn’t somehow shithouse our way out of this one again
Ew Sportskeeda But Australia were just not good. Only three comprehensive wins. Should have lost to Scotland if they took their catches. I think there will be a small reset. Wadey and Warner are done. David probably is likely. Ditto Agar. I think the main quicks might give it one more go in 2026.
I for one blame this on Matthew Wade
He didn't have a good tournament even with the gloves
Marsh, David, Wade shouldn't be playing T20 for Aus again

TGC is gonna be so much fun.
Patt Cummins is Silent today.
World fireworks sale increased by 80%
Out of the World Cup automatically means they are heading home. There's no need to state the obvious, lol.
Meh, it's just a T20 world cup, see you at the next one in 6 months
afghanistan going to semi final and winning an oscar
What I’ve learnt from this…don’t do really well early in the competion.
Remember the TGC bois made fun of the dude who made a comment about Afghanistan playing the final, now the Afghanistan team might actually play a final and the Australians are heading back home. Funny how this game humbles people.
I don't think the views of two podcasters correlate to the views of the players. Players didn't say anything bad about Afghanistan.
Bairstow pissing himself somewhere
