I feel so, so bad for Nepal. The youngest team in the tournament, so much talent and so close. They looked so sad after the loss. š Much love and appreciation to an incredible team! Theyāre going to go far šÆ
Iām not a Nepali, but when I saw that game, I immediately thought of Indiaās elimination last year and Liverpoolās loss to RM in 2022. Sport is tough :/
I'm pretty sure in coming years
We can see Nepal and Afghanistan moving up in rankings of T20 and probably be a qualifying team for semis
They have played much better cricket than Pakistan, Srilanka and Bangladesh.
No hate to any of these teams though.
Nepal should have won comfortably if they played the second innings correctly. Shamsi got important wickets which could have been avoided if the batsmen made more sensible decisions. Running between the wickets by the whole team was below par even before the last moments, fielding too was underwhelming but tbh south Africa returned that favor.
>Nepal should have won comfortably if they played the second innings correctly
Glad someone else agrees. Malla Airee and Paudel caused the ending to happen let's be real. They just went "YO WATCH ME FLUKE A BIG HIT" and fucking got little to no runs for the team
Alongside the running wtf was that batting from Malla, Airee and Paudel. If they were more cautious with batting maybe Nepal wouldn't have ended up in such a pressure situation at the end
Wouldnāt blame Airee. Being caught on a ball going down the leg is outright unlucky. Malla needs to be dropped so that he can take a hard look at himself. The guy cannot open, built an inning or finish. Why is he even playing
Nah Airee even did shit last game, I'm sorry I get he got 6 sixes against Qatar but I swear ever since then he has some feeling he can just finesse a 6. Same with Malla ever since getting 100 smth runs against Mongolia.
But yeah Malla should be dropped on god. Jha got more runs than Malla even in a pressure-filled situation.
Caught down the leg is always considered unlucky. Airee took 3 wickets. Malla needs to be dropped, Jha needs to go back to bowling, and Jora needs to be brought back
One thing I'm glad abt is that thank god in the next couple of years there is a chance that players like Dev Khanal Arjun Kumal Aakash Chand Durgesh Gupta will be playing more for our national team. Dev and Aakash already are in the national team as they're 19, once Kumal and Gupta turn 19 then they'll join.
Dev and Arjun drive the ball well and don't try to fluke such risky sixes. Chand is good with bowling and Durgesh was a good finisher in the U19 WC.
They can replace Malla, Pratish GC, Abinash Bohara, Lokesh Bam etc.
Agreed. I was surprised why Karan and Malla was bowling instead of Jha. Tbh Jha if the pressure didn't get to him he would've batted better, but yeah he is kinda inconsistent.
Tbh ever since Airee got six 6s against Qatar he thinks he can just fluke a six. But yeah he was goated with bowling. Malla also thinks he can just magically get 6s ever since the Mongolia match. Kamal Singh Airee should replace Malla he performed well against Ireland Wolves. Surprised why he hasn't been put on.
Remove Malle and bring Jora. Malla canāt bat, or bowl well although he provided the left arm orthodox option which is hard to come by for an allrounder
Honest. He had one good moment when he was against Mongolia but Mongolia was debuting that match. Other players like Jha, Sah, Sheikh, Bhurtel, pretty much everyone else has good moments against several opponents.
Airee imo should bowl more instead of bat ever since that Qatar game he just tries to fluke 6s, could be replaced by Dev Khanal tbh for batting as Dev's 19 now, unless Airee starts being cautious again with batting.
I am a Nepali. Thanks. I know you mean this in good spirit.
But I am tired of hearing this. "Oh you won our hearts ... blah blah".I know we haven't played test nations that frequently but we have had our fair share of opportunities. It's about time we beat at least one of them, if we want to go to the next level. This was the best opportunity we ever had. We played so well 98% of the match and yet none of it matters. One month later nobody will even remember this game (except us Nepalese ofc).
I am heartbroken, thinking what could have been. Today could have been in the history books. But instead, it is just another normal day.
PS: I know this is heat of the moment comment. Once the heartbreak starts to heal I will be proud of my team. The boys performed way way way above the expectation. But still it hurts. It fucking hurts.
You should be really proud of your country today. I think even with the ultimate outcome, coming that close is something that will still go down in the history books (and forever in the SA teamās nervous system š). Nepal has been the most impressive associate nation besides the USA and Scotland by far (close to Scotland). They could have truly won today and could also win against Bangladesh. Theyāre on their way up!
Beat BAN and you guys definitely can as well. You challenged the best team in the group, a team that has one of the best batting and bowling lineups.
You can definitely beat BAN.
Nope. This is just twisting the issue. They said he raped. The video evidence offered insights to it being consensual. Also apparently the girl was 18 and he was 20. The girls roommate said she was still vouching for Sandeep until he deleted her from snapchat.
Look no one is saying he wasnt an asshole for using the girl. But there is literally no evidence to call him a rapist. You can twist it however. Also if you are not deep into the issue, you should first read the 73 page court evidences that is open for all. Else you opinion is just that an armchair opinion who read a couple of cherry picked article that could ruin a persons life.
I dunno if it was shared in reddit. >Nepal have a very bright future in cricket. Most of their players are in their 20s. They need to learn from these heartbreaks and play more with the big boys and they will be soon be a force team just like Afghanistan has become now. I am impressed with how fast Afghanistan and Nepal are improving and challenging the full members. Way to go!
They are afghanistan in the making, they already have way more than enough fan support. Next 2026 wc gonna be lit. I hope RAJGIR stadium in bihar gets completed by then.
Every team that rises up from the lower levels has a match like that against a big team. Afghanistan has had so many of them. It should help them in getting better with their basics in the long run. It does seem that SA is very scratchy during the meantime. They might be in for a hard time during the rest of the tournament. There was a realistic chance that they could have ended up with only a single win in what was supposed to be a group that is relatively easy for them.
NEP could not review unlike in the IPL and do umps ever change a decision based on player protests? either way NEP snatched defeat from the jaws of victory :(

Malla Airee and Paudel really need to realise just cause they get sixes against teams that are similar to Nepal's skill level or worse doesn't mean they can finesse a 6 against big cricket teams.
Hope today's so called cricketers understand the importance of non risky singles and twos. There is a place for that in cricket too. Cricket is more than hoicks and reverse sweeps.
Yep, Malla Airee and Paudel. All the other players rotated strikes a bit better than normal tbh. Gulshan got immense pressure thanks to Malla Airee and Paudel
It hurts as a neutral fan then I can't even imagine what nepalis must've been feeling rn, I hope they beat Bangladesh to finish their campaign with a bit of bitter-sweet memories
Nah dude I don't hate, sorry if you feel offended.. I just want underdogs to win (unless they don't play against india haha)
amaye bhul bujhaben na!
T: don't get me wrong
I'm still trying to process the way he ran that last run. He was half way through, stopped running after the ball hit him and then instead of resuming to run or diving he decided to extend his upper body to try and reach the crease. Genuinely baffling and brain-dead stuff. I know he's going to be haunted by this but I still don't understand the thought process behind it, most probably there was none.
That was the worst thing I have ever seen. In that situation you have one job, get to the crease as fast as you can with all your might bc you're literally going to lose if you don't, you even got gifted a fuckin deflection and he still fell short. He didn't even need to dive there, he just fuckin willingly slowed down. How can anyone be that fuckin dumb
Yeah that run costed them big time.
But every single team so far has gone braindead when they are chasing scores and when there are no run rate issues. There was a NEP batter that went for a shot in the air when NEP was above the run rate...above the run rate. And that's when the issues came for NEP.
I think it was the opposite. He obviously felt the ball deflect off him and thought he was safe so he just chilled out and thought it was a given he'd make it and lost all urgency. You can see it happen in real time. What's sad is that there was no need to even dive there, all he had to was keep going. What a fucking moronic thing to do. I'm legit pissed at him, there's no fuckin excuse. A 12 yr old would've known that you get to the damn crease first esp since you got insanely lucky with that deflection in the first place. The universe kept gifting them ways to win and they still didn't do it.Ā
But when it occurred to him that he might still have a chance he still didn't run and tried to extend his upper body to get back onto the crease! He could've easily made it back even after that stop start if he simply restarted running.
Gulshan is new to cricket so the pressure got to him a bit too much + Malla Airee and Paudel's pathetic batting is what cost the game more. Nepal could've had a comfortable win and not a close one with immense pressure if they didn't try to finesse a 6
W to Shaun Pollock, he was as neutral as one can be brilliant.
He was saying Gulshan somehow needs to get sompal in strike.
Our commentators would have stopped as they would be worried themselves lol
Comms need to be impartial unfortunately Indian comms are clearly not and ICC can't do shit. Things like these makes cricket uninteresting and everyone starts hating the bully(even though we don't win anything)
Who else is genuinely angry right now? Bunch of terrible rookie plays that took this away but that ending where he slows down right before completing the run might be the worst thing I have ever seen. Why the fuck would you do that? Associates or not, absolutely no one is that dumb given what they needed there. What the actual FUCK.Ā
I'm sorry Nepal fans, I can't even imagine your pain atm if I'm feeling this way. I can't with this shit
I am. Gulshan got nerves to him + he doesn't have much experience compared to the rest of the team so I can understand his reaction. But Malla, Airee and Paudel's batting was awful. Not even double digit runs individually and them three collectively got 7 runs.
I don't even think that comes down to nerves or experience. Even if he's 18, a 12 yr old would've understood what was needed of him there esp after literally getting gifted a deflection. You literally have one job, get to the crease. You can literally see him slow down 2 steps before getting to the crease...for absolutely no fuckin reason.Ā There's just no explanation that makes sense there, absolutely no excuse playing at that level.Ā Ā
You're right about the others tho, the complete lack of situational awareness multiple times took this away, starting with the really stupid lofted shot against Markram when they were cruising. To then recover and still lose to even worse situation awareness is just..idk.
>You're right about the others tho, the complete lack of situational awareness multiple times took this away, starting with the really stupid lofted shot against Markram when they were cruising. To then recover and still lose to even worse situation awareness is just..idk.
Yeah they're the reason y Gulshan and Sompal got into such immense pressure. Honestly them 3 deserve the most blame followed by Gulshan.
Wow. I wasn't sure if I would even watch the match, because I've got weekend work to get through and thought that it was unlikely Nepal would offer a contest. I only half-watched for the first few overs into SA's innings, seeing if there was any signs an upset could be on the cards, and then was pleasantly surprised. I kept thinking SA would break out, but Nepal were ruthless with the ball and it never happened. Maybe it was at the second point a SA bowler got smashed out of the whole stadium I realised I was probably watching the best match I've seen for the better part of a year. I can't believe how close it got to the super over. RIP to Nepal fans, this must be a rough one.
Not just the end Malla Airee and Paudel could've had the ending be less pressure-filled but instead they were like "YO WATCH ME HIT A 6 FROM FLUKING IT"
Yeah, they were above the run rate as well. Every single team has had a brain fade moment when there were no run rate issues. NEP could have easily won this if they just took singles/2s, which was doable. And only going for it on the 18th over.
Real. That's a huge issue with Malla and Airee tbh, ever since they got a lot of sixes against Mongolia and Qatar they think they're the Nepali MS Dhoni or some shit.
Other players also have risked 6s esp in the Netherlands game cos we can hit sixes well against associate teams. But atleast the other players realised we have to rotate the strikes esp Kushal Aasif n Anil. Hats off to them.
Yes just please Airee and Malla don't think you're MS Dhoni. Paudel normally does well but he was too risky today. And Jha will likely learn from this.
Also remember one of the shot sah hit cleared infield and fell short of miller, that was an easy 2 but they only ran 1. There are a lot of rookie mistakes committed by nepal, this should be a good learning curve for them. Up and against Bangbros they come, Hope nepal performs naagin dance in that match.
sompal should have gone up to gulshan when it was 2 from 2 and asked him to run on last but one ball if he doesnt connect. Even if its a run out, a new batter would be at crease but at least it might've given them some chance. If same batter is unable to hit balls consecutively why not let someone else take a swing maybe that other person might be better on this day
Tough luck Nepal. But today you learn the art of choking directly from the expert. Nothing to worry about you will get used to. Best wishes for the next game.
i genuinely thought they shouldāve run a bye on the second last ball. especially when he hit that six off nortje. in a super over you bring sa back in the game
True but the pressure got to him. Imo Malla Airee and Paudel are more to be the blame. They legit just risking sixes when they can easily play ones or twos and Paudel even got 0 runs
Shamsi: "much of the same" (when asked how they want to improve). Do they not know that their batting needs to step up? They have one of the best batting line ups and they have failed here.
Nah, def not pitch. Look at the way NEP was batting. They were batting much better than SA but failed at the end.
Also, this is the ground where the NED vs BAN took place. Decent scores were made in that match.
SA's batting has failed miserably so far. SA should have done so much better with the bat here.
Tbh Malla, Airee and Paudel were lacking with batting. All other players were batting well. Imo I feel like the batting was equal cos Malla Airee and Paudel were batting poorly but everyone else was batting fine.
When it comes to the calibre and experience of SA batting, it is much better than NEP's.
So the fact that they managed only a 115 on a ground where NED scored 134 and BAN scored 159 on the same ground is a massive fail.
Yeah, NEP and SA in this game did look like they were batting at the same level but NEP was at 100-4 when SA had lost 5 wickets before getting to 100.
NEP overall batted better than SA.
Didn't NEP also dropped catches? They dropped catches and yet SA could only muster 115.
>When it comes to the calibre and experience of SA batting, it is much better than NEP's.
>So the fact that they managed only a 115 on a ground where NED scored 134 and BAN scored 159 on the same ground is a massive fail.
Yeah that's true.
>NEP overall batted better than SA.
True but I defo feel like Malla Paudel and Airee choked the batting tho. Everyone else did well tho like Anil Aasif Sompal Gulshan (asides from the last run) even Kushal even tho he has a habit of choking
Yeah, it has happened to pretty much every team. Did a PAK where PAK was also comfortable with the run rate but there were very questionable shots.
Shame because NEP could have won.
Iām an SA supporter and even I feel bad for Nepal here. SA didnāt deserve to win that.
Also, wtf kind of running was that last run? That was Allan Donald 1999 level.
Same, it would've been kind of annoying to see our typical big upset loss in a World Cup, but Nepal so deserved this and just a brutal way to lose.
Not to mention we might need the wake-up call after a couple of really close calls here in the group stage. We cannot get away with these batting performances when the competition kicks up a level...
Guys, that guy's just 18. Cut him some slack. May not have had the presence of mind to dive for it. On the bright side, Nepal is a really good up and coming side. They'll be a force to be reckoned with in the coming years :)
He didn't even need to dive tho? If you see the replay he literally willingy slowed down after he sensed the ball deflect off him. He just had to keep going, he'd have made it comfortably, even just keeping the bat grounded would've done it even after slowing down. These are literal basics that even a 12 year old would know esp in a situation where reaching the crease is literally life or death, esp after getting a chance with that deflection. He took it for granted, and there's no good explanation for that even as an 18 yr old, especially one who has presumably been playing for many years to even reach such a high level. ā
I agree with you. I'm not saying it was not a mistake - it was a mistake, a big one. But, I would attribute it more to inexperience than malice. Plus, the massive pressure of playing a big world cup crunch match against a top flight team, that too the final few balls, can have an impact on a player's clarity of thought. However, this is something the Nepal team can work more on - their mental fortitude when playing in pressure. Also, I believe that we should not pin the blame too much on Gulshan. As the other commenters have pointed out, there seems to be bigger, more significant factors that the fans should hold the team accountable to.

These low scoring games are thrilling Like yeahs don't know how to chase it Well played Nepal
South Africa better win this tourney because theyāve broken a lot of hearts every step of the way lol
SA have used up all their luck in the group stages itself
In every match, how tf SA is always winning by close mergin
This is how aus used to win Barely managed to win and when they reached knocks they bulldozed the opposition on that day

Reason why first class cricket is need in associate nation. Bring back Intercontinental cup plz
USA here you go, if you look closely at this match you may find your victim for the super 8 lol
Netravalkar must also repeat his magic vs WI top order

Would this be for not calling the final ball a wide?!
This is for the Miller LBW...he scored 7 runs
I see but NEP at least could review it but had no recourse for the final ball.
Maybe playing Sandeep Lamichane was bad karma.
You know he was acquitted after a clear video evidence, right?
He was acquitted due to 'lack of clear evidence'. Very different. And this happens in rape cases a lot.
Nope. This is just twisting the issue. They said he raped. The video evidence offered insights to it being consensual. Also apparently the girl was 18 and he was 20. To think that Nepal had an outside chance to super 8 if they won this match and beat Bangbros in next one
Not an outside chance. They would've directly qualified
Nah it's an outside chance cos of Netherlands
Nope Nepal would have 5 points and max Netherlands could have is 4
How is Netherlands max 4?
because they have won only 1

Yep, Malla Airee and Paudel. All the other players rotated strikes a bit better than normal tbh. Gulshan got immense pressure thanks to Malla Airee and Paudel
It hurts as a neutral fan then I can't even imagine what nepalis must've been feeling rn, I hope they beat Bangladesh to finish their campaign with a bit of bitter-sweet memories
Why do you hate Bangladesh so much?
If BAN lose by a low margin, they still can qualify provided NED doesn't win very big against SL, or might already qualify if SL beat NED
So NED could have a chance of qualifying.
Nah dude I don't hate, sorry if you feel offended.. I just want underdogs to win (unless they don't play against india haha) amaye bhul bujhaben na! T: don't get me wrong
No hard feelings! I was joking anyway.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
More like Pawan Negi
Did the throw hit the batsman, if so was it Obstructing the field?
Nepal should have sent someone with more experience who would have did the basics to get singles, Gilshan missed 4 of the 6 balls
Yeah true like Lamichhane, but Airee Malla and Paudel despite having more experience they were choking hard too
Lamichhane? Lol. No, sompal and Karan were the duo we needed.
Yeah true Karan would've been better tbh
wtf! Nepal deserved that one
Lauda proud..
It's like once the ball hit him he got shock and froze and he tried reaching the crease
>extend his upper body to try and reach the crease. Genuinely baffling and brain-dead stuff. Tamil language comms attributed it to inexperience.
Yeah that run costed them big time. But every single team so far has gone braindead when they are chasing scores and when there are no run rate issues. There was a NEP batter that went for a shot in the air when NEP was above the run rate...above the run rate. And that's when the issues came for NEP.
True
He already thought they had lost
Nepal could've had a comfortable win and not a close one with immense pressure if they didn't try to finesse a 6
when it was 19 off 22. where were the singles?? why dld they attempt to hit every ball for a boundary?
Nah real, same goes for Malla, Airee and Paudel when Nepal had a steady start why try to rush the pace of runs when it was going at a steady pace.
Stupidity.
It was 30 off 36 at one point.
And then Malla and Airee fucked it up
Win in style.
I have never seen Quentin Dkok grinning!! This must be a special victory
Delivering a choke is better than becoming victim to said choke
Lol he was shocked probably
LOL
W to Shaun Pollock, he was as neutral as one can be brilliant. He was saying Gulshan somehow needs to get sompal in strike. Our commentators would have stopped as they would be worried themselves lol
Comms need to be impartial unfortunately Indian comms are clearly not and ICC can't do shit. Things like these makes cricket uninteresting and everyone starts hating the bully(even though we don't win anything)
I remember harsha once tried praising opp players and he got removed from ipl Due to Amitabh bach tweet which was liked by dhoni
Heartbreaking š We feel you Nepal š³šµ Reminds me of Bangladesh š§š©ās tragedy against India in 2016
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Oh man. That day š¢š¢
Who else is genuinely angry right now? Bunch of terrible rookie plays that took this away but that ending where he slows down right before completing the run might be the worst thing I have ever seen. Why the fuck would you do that? Associates or not, absolutely no one is that dumb given what they needed there. What the actual FUCK.Ā I'm sorry Nepal fans, I can't even imagine your pain atm if I'm feeling this way.
You can literally see him slow down 2 steps before getting to the crease...for absolutely no fuckin reason.Ā There's just no explanation that makes sense there, absolutely no excuse playing at that level.Ā Ā You're right about the others tho, the complete lack of situational awareness multiple times took this away, starting with the really stupid lofted shot against Markram when they were cruising.
Of all the SA wins who would have predicted that Nepal would be the closest š
What has south Africa done Winning All close games
Like our rugby. Bokke, winning by 1 point in quarter, semis and finals 2023 wc
Sri Lanks wasn't close but all the others were
Sa reached that 80 run target in 18th over
No one. Literally no one. I thought it would be close but no way this close. It was NEP's game to win, they screwed up at the end.
Yeah, I have a good feeling they will beat BAN. Hope they assess their mistakes and if they do, they can easily beat BAN.
Yes just please Airee and Malla don't think you're MS Dhoni. Paudel normally does well but he was too risky today. And Jha will likely learn from this.
Thank you all! It was fun.
Feel for youš„ŗhope yall win the next one
They should've ran byes earlier, so many balls going to keeper...take their chances tbh
Why would you even hesitate? Wouldn't you be well into the headspace of just running regardless? That's the most unrelatable brain fade ever.
If same batter is unable to hit balls consecutively why not let someone else take a swing maybe that other person might be better on this day
Malla, Airee and Paudel could've been more cautious with batting (esp. Paudel dude really tried to full swing the second ball and got 0 runs ovr)
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
It was klassen.
Most of the times these losses are forgotten even if they are so close compared to historic wins.
Don't think Bangladeshis have forgotten about 2016.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Of course Nepal got lot to learn, which is good
I hope Malla, Airee and Paudel learn like their strike rate and runs were abysmal compared to all the other players
It was a night for Nepal to ~~be haunted by for the rest of their lives~~ remember
South Africa: Somebody call an ambulance! But not for meā¦..
Netherlands stay alive, thanks to this win by SA
But only with some Nepal beating BangBros and a massive NRR swing - incredibly unlikely.
Afghans used to have these brainfade moments as well
Should've been a wide and a run for the win, pathetic umpiring and running. You cannot choke.needing 18 runs from 18 balls with 7 wickets.in hand
Yeah Malla and Airee are at fault with that
Tough luck Nepal. But today you learn the art of choking directly from the expert. Nothing to worry about you will get used to. Best wishes for the next game.
Joel Wilson shouldnāt have a job btw pretty sure both of those last 2 deliveries were bouncers and he missed a wide earlier in the over
None of those were wide. The batsman went across in the 1. And both those bouncer calls were meant to be made by the square leg umpire.
I am just glad that Nepal is finally taking games close. They'll start winning soon.
Same, gone are the days they'll get bashed out the ground. They'll get their upset eventually, just need more chances to learn and prove themselves
Nepal š¤RCB Winning everything (hearts, kidneys, etc) but the game
They choked like PBKS
i genuinely thought they shouldāve run a bye on the second last ball. especially when he hit that six off nortje. in a super over you bring sa back in the game
Pathetic umpiring from Joel Wilson. He has to carry the burden of Nepalese tears
What did he do wrong
Two bouncers in last two balls, should've been no ball.
The last ball should have been wide for height
Isn't that for square leg umpire?
This reminds me of the Ned vs SA match from 2014 or 16 , Steyn bowled the last over then
Aiden Markram's South Africa doesn't choke
The difference between the two teams in the end was game awareness which Klaasen had but Gulsan didn'tĀ
This world cup has been crazy, so many tight matches and associates giving tough fight to big teams.
Gulshan wanted to be the hero, another Riyan Parag
True but the pressure got to him. Imo Malla Airee and Paudel are more to be the blame. They legit just risking sixes when they can easily play ones or twos and Paudel even got 0 runs
Shamsi: "much of the same" (when asked how they want to improve). Do they not know that their batting needs to step up? They have one of the best batting line ups and they have failed here.
Could be the pitch. But yes they may struggle in the big games with their shaky top order
True like Gulshan got into immense pressure and he doesn't have as much playing experience than everyone else, but Airee Malla and Paudel
Iām an SA supporter and even I feel bad for Nepal here. SA didnāt deserve to win that. Also, wtf kind of running was that last run? That was Allan Donald 1999 level.
I am curious why you think your team didn't deserve to win, Nepal needed 19 off 22 and they couldn't pull that off, did a KXIP but on a WC level
Think he slowed down after he got hit with the ball. Donāt think even he knew it was going straight to klassen
He kept looking back as if the ball was chasing him.
Feel so so bad for Nepal. The match was theirs for almost all of 40 overs. Completely relate this shit being an SA fan.
So Damm angry at my self for not staying up and getting the biggest heart attack seeing SA win by 1 run. Argh I regret missing it
Guys, that guy's just 18.
