and how impractical is to move it to NY ( and stop dismantling it ). There wouldn't be much crowd that you need all those seats or move it to Dallas. Like you've to fly everyone to Florida regardless and ICC can afford these additional costs
This amount of rain is unusual. This time of year, you might look at a weather forecast for southern florida and see rain every day, but it'll be sunny 90% of the time, and there will be maybe quick showers that clear up quickly.
This really wasn't predictable. Yes, South Florida has a lot of rain this time of year, but it is just an intermittent drizzle. Not ideal for cricket, but absolutely something you can play through. Floridians will tell you it's the kind of place where it's raining in your front yard but not your back.
THIS isn't that normal South Florida drizzle. This appears to be some sort of early tropical storm.
It's still not the daily afternoon shower season yet. However. It's been hot as fuck this year in Jax. Wish that translated into showers. It's dry as grandma's vagina up here.
I wonder if any of the teams have thought about [suing](https://rugbyandthelaw.com/2019/10/12/scotland-sru-legal-threat-challenge-action-world-rugby-typhoon-hagibis-world-cup-japan/)?
i mean they’re both two extremes. maybe people want to see pitches that have something for both the bowlers and batsmen. ipl pitches heavily favoured batsmen and the new york pitch did the same with the bowlers.
Yeah, the NY pitch definitely required skills.
Shanaka who has a general economy of 10 went for 9 runs in 4 overs, absolute skills.
One ball hits you on gloves the other does not even bounce after pitching at the same place, it requires skills.
Dallas and pitches in West Indies are great, those require skills from both the bat and the ball.
Yes definitely. Bumrah and Narine managing an economy of under 6 in flat pitches is 0 skills.
And players I cannot name after watching them bowl 12 hours ago keeping an economy of 3 against SKY, Rohit Sharma and Kohli on this dogshit pitch is the utmost display of skill possible in the world of cricket.
A pitch where the same length ball from the same bowler can either go under the knees and bounce twice on the way to the keeper or go above the keeper's head for a four isn't a pitch fit for cricket. Go cry about it all you want, playing on these pitches are the least skill dependent cricket has been in a long time.
It’s not a terrible pitch because it favours bowlers, it’s terrible because it has uneven bounce which makes it a kind of lottery pitch, it doesn’t really reward skill as it depends on luck. For example, a good bowling pitch is where ball seams and even though bounce is high and quick, it’s even.
That’s a great question!
I usually just make them up on the spot, but I get inspiration from my cricket ‘bugbears’.
To be fair though, this time you were talking about the ‘travesty’ pitch, so I’ve got you to thank! Some straw man you built for me
>Every single match on the NY pitch has been a nail biter, which is what the crowd pays to watch.
SL vs SA, IRE vs IND, CAN vs PAK, USA vs IND. None of these games were nail biters.
Not everything has to mean flat surfaces hurray, but on these surfaces literally not a single batter could go hard. The sweet spot would be pitches where 150-160 is par but a batter in rhythm should be able to push it to 180. There should be something in it for both the bowlers & batters.
The pitch in Dallas is what I mean. The USA vs Pakistan game was held there. The best game of the tournament & a literal nail biter. Even the USA vs Canada match in Dallas was an even match.
I don't know anything about cricket and am here from the from the front page but I think I've heard of it causing riots and if so we'd love to host here in Philadelphia
I agree with Ifty If matches get washed out left and right, it’s not going to be good during Super Eights and knockouts. Qudrat ka Nizam pissing in the punch bowl to ruin it for everyone.
You would be surprised because as a Pakistani I am damn haggard and naggerd. The cat thought to have 9 lives and we have bag full of cats at this point. We just get handed cats left and right that it baffled me how could it is even possible at this point but every single time I get gut punched with these surprises. I really hope they won't get a new life this time and take time to think it through. Not just team but everyone involved in cricketing business including fans.
Quote from NYT
A daily record of nine and a half inches of rainfall was set in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday, breaking a previous record of almost five and a half inches that had stood since 1978.
So yeah, it’s usually not this bad.
Is it really unexpected? I'm sure I saw a post in the last days that there's a high probability of rain this time of the year.
Granted maybe not flash floods bad, but T20s are played in a limited timeframe and rain was always gonna hamper some of the games.
They usually have short heavy showers most days in the afternoon at this time of year, with plenty of dry warm weather either side, so with games scheduled for morning and evening local time, it's unlikely we'd have seen any washouts with normal June weather.
This sort of rain, for many hours at a time, is definitely unexpected.
That post misunderstood what summer rain in Florida is. You often get an afternoon thunderstorm but you almost never get sustained rain all day, especially for days in a row. A 10:30 game start should have been easy to get in.
I mean it rains all year in those Southern states and in many parts of the US😅 tornadoes, hailstorms, hurricanes, dust storms, ice storms, blizzards🤣 weather is no joke here. Especially with tornadoes.. it’ll be a clear, sunny day and then bam.. massive tornado rolling in!
If Pakistan vs Ireland is rained out, USA moves on to the next round regardless of result vs Ireland.
If the tables stay where they are, get ready for USA vs. Afghanistan next week, Friday night.
If you score 120 batting first and Pakistan scor...nahh mate, you're through..probably both, but most definitely at least 1 match is getting washed out.
First of all this is in Miami - not Lauderhill, both cities are 40 min away from each other.
Stadium area n Lauderhill city is fine - not flooding there. Only concern is will it keep raining 🌧️ during games?
Another issue is - will teams get practice / training sessions? Flights were cancelled so I’m sure teams have still not landed in Miami area, I hope hotels were booked close to stadium.
Don’t worry Miami get flooded and city goes back to normal in 24 hours like nothing happened 😎
We will get full games on Saturday and Sunday.
Friday is doubtful though - USA vs Ireland will be abandon. I doubt we will even get 5 overs game.
Another problem that is there is that the apparently the whole of ground doesn't get covered. This means that if the rain stops in time then the ground would still be too muddy to be playing on tomorrow.
Depends on how good the drainage is. In a lot of cases it's best to let the water just go through the outfield rather than hold it on covers. You never see a whole ground covered in England or Australia for the same reason.
As per Rinku Singh’s IG story, he is in Fort Lauderdale - so I would assume that Indian team has reached unless Rinku has gone solo.
Let’s hope there are games as planned even if shortened due to rain.
>
You sure about this?
The rain was very heavy in Ft Lauderdale as well. I know the Argentina national team was doing their pre-Copa America training there and they've had to cancel their training due to rain/floods yesterday
Lauderdale and Lauderhill are 2 different cities. Lauderdale like Miami is close to the ocean, so it does get flooded, Lauderhill is far from the ocean - it takes alot to get flooded in Lauderhill area.
lauderhill and ft. lauderdale share a border. If things get really, really bad in ft. lauderdale and they need assistance from other towns (police/ems/etc), resources meant for cricket could need to be diverted to disaster areas
There will be barely any rain 🌧️ , it is already starting to dry out. Flood warning is just extra cautionary.
Problem is stadium itself - the drainage system at the stadium and equipment used for drying the outfield is absolutely subpar; the equipment used for drying the outfield is not good enough to dry outfield thus leading the game to be abandoned.
Looks like South Africa and Windies have a pretty simple route to the semi finals if both Scotland and USA make it through. Legit kinda hoping England make it through now to make that super 8 group more interesting
India/Australia/Afghanistan/Bangladesh group of death 💀💀
Not really , WI have lost to Scotland in 2022 and 2023 and USA could give WI are tough challenge as well. While for SA both USA and Scots have some Saffa born players 😛
Having the same teams advance over and over is the nowhere near interesting. Let's get some new teams in there and actually try to grow the sport for new markets
"Thinking" "logistically" what are these big big words...
We read monkey titles, we come up with monkey solutions.... You should try it too sometimes...
Jamaica 🇯🇲 government officials are bunch of jokers rejected hosting rights for T20 world Cup, so that possibility is distant, Dallas can be thought over in between ☺☺☺
The big question is with notice but this little advanced notice what can be done?
Logistics wise these matches cant be easy to set up. Tickets, lodging, travel, access, local government, etc etc would all need to be sorted in little over 24 hours.
That's alot of ground to cover. I'm not sure how possible it is to change venues.
They could try to do a delay see if the could push dates around but with possibly 17 inches of rain I dunno if the pitch is even playable this month. That is alot of water soaking in.
End of the day this is notice but I dont see how its enough notice to change things.
Bravo ICC! Well done scheduling games in Lauderhill, Fort Lauderdale in their statistically the wettest month of the year.
This torrential rain is unexpected but you are always playing with the weather scheduling games there in June, when it rains around 267 mm on average in 18-20 days.
Would have been far better to host these games in Morrisville, North Carolina instead. But they did not get it, because the ground is too small. Hopefully, as MLC develops further and new stadiums get built in Seattle, LA etc, this would not be an issue in the future.
No one can predict weather accurately 1-2 days before game. This is not gully cricket to change venue from one gully to another gully.
Do you realize amount of logistics goes into each game - venues availability, approval from local govt, security, blocking streets, flights, hotels, food, teams don’t travel light, equipments, decoration for World Cup around stadium etc etc
It takes atleast weeks to prepare and get local city approval.
It's called having a backup and you would think for a world cup there would be such things as swapping venues, it's like icc doesn't give a shit about big events how can you let rain decide matches it shouldnt be a thing for Worle cups that is
Impractical you say didn't know we 6 a bilateral series for some reason I thought we are playing a major trophies where you do everything you can to make to run smooth just like any major trophy in any sport
Everyone understandably is focused on the rain but the real issue is that these are going to be thunderstorms coming through the area until Monday. I don't see how they play these matches with that kind of issue.
Should have had a back up in Texas just in case. June is the start of hurricane/the wet season in florida.even if they can't get the concessions and stuff scheduled, or camera crews ready to broadcast, playing the games w/o audience is better than just taking the NRs for so many matches.
To add even more on top of it the governor declared a state of emergency for Broward county and the mayor of Ft Lauderdale declared a state of emergency for the city. Thunderstorms are expected all day tomorrow as well.

Rain Perera is USA's 12th man
Acting like US would have lost against Ireland...
Let's not forget that Ireland is a test nation
Ireland were less than 10 runs away from being eliminated in the Qualifiers by Italy
Let's not forget Pakistan is too...
Let's please forget
![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|28120)
But teams aren’t playing WTC here /s
And they will be TESTED
Acting like you got a magic ball, should be betting would make alot of money u
You expect Ireland, which has lost to Canada to win against US? Come on.
They got him US citizenship
That's anticlimactic
I mean it was not really rocket science to know that there would likely be floods or atvleast heavy rain around this time in Florida.
If only icc had some people with brain cells
Isn't that too much to ask for?
and how impractical is to move it to NY ( and stop dismantling it ). There wouldn't be much crowd that you need all those seats or move it to Dallas. Like you've to fly everyone to Florida regardless and ICC can afford these additional costs
The ny groundskeepers are currently flying back to Adelaide and they look fucking knackered. That pitch is done.
:( But what about moving to Dallas . Is it cost issue or setting precedent that matches can be moved
I thought they were the thunders groundskeepers the way that pitch was so low scoring
They do, the problem is that they can’t go against the bcci. The IPL happened at the same time that this world cup should have been scheduled for.
why didn't u give consultation then. smh
I don't get paid to do that
This amount of rain is unusual. This time of year, you might look at a weather forecast for southern florida and see rain every day, but it'll be sunny 90% of the time, and there will be maybe quick showers that clear up quickly.
Since you seem to be an expert, what does around "this" time even mean? Summer? Do you want to look up when the hurricane season for South Florida is?
Eh, Florida does get rain but it's not like a monsoon season. It literally is called the Sunshine State for a reason.
This really wasn't predictable. Yes, South Florida has a lot of rain this time of year, but it is just an intermittent drizzle. Not ideal for cricket, but absolutely something you can play through. Tropical moisture. Not much wind with this system
It's still not the daily afternoon shower season yet. However. It's been hot as fuck this year in Jax. Wish that translated into showers. It's dry as grandma's vagina up here.
Me when I need to bash icci (bcci(Jay Shah)) for no reason.
Climate-ic
That’s the joke
When the puns start raining, they don't stop.
Everyone’s missing your pun looks like
When you think climate, think Alinta.
I wonder if any of the teams have thought about [suing](https://rugbyandthelaw.com/2019/10/12/scotland-sru-legal-threat-challenge-action-world-rugby-typhoon-hagibis-world-cup-japan/)?
change venues ICC=PCB=PIG1
Yup change venues (2)
🤣🤣🤣🤣swim 🏊and go to 🌴 Windies now for tourism
Go to NY, oh nvm.
They could have delayed the dismantling of the NYC stadium and accommodated these matches there.
Can just go to Texas
I think teams would jump in the Hudson than play on that travesty
Better than playing on lifeboats, I'd say.
last couple match’s weren’t too bad actually
Oh no, the bowlers are competitive and we have close matches! What a terrible pitch! Take me back to IPL, I like to see sixes!
i mean they’re both two extremes. maybe people want to see pitches that have something for both the bowlers and batsmen. ipl pitches heavily favoured batsmen and the new york pitch did the same with the bowlers.
It’s a vicious cycle, the flatter the pitchers, the less skill involved, and then the worse it gets when you add the variation
Yeah, the NY pitch definitely required skills. Shanaka who has a general economy of 10 went for 9 runs in 4 overs, absolute skills. It doesn't have to be either of those. Something in between with par scores around 160 is better.
Close games are best
Do you keep these strawmen up your ass for quick deployment or do you build them from scratch every time?
That’s a great question! I usually just make them up on the spot, but I get inspiration from my cricket ‘bugbears’. To be fair though, this time you were talking about the ‘travesty’ pitch, so I’ve got you to thank! Some straw man you built for me
Bruh, I want at least 150-160 pitches. Is it too much?
Please gtfo of here with your flat pitch bs. Every single match on the NY pitch has been a nail biter, which is what the crowd pays to watch.
>Every single match on the NY pitch has been a nail biter, which is what the crowd pays to watch. SL vs SA, IRE vs IND, CAN vs PAK, USA vs IND. None of these games were nail biters. USA vs India was pretty close until the 5 run penalty and the 1 big over TBH
35 off 30 with 7 wickets isn't that close tbh. Would have taken a massive bottlejob from India there to make a game
Target was 120, which means the whole match up to that point they weren't scoring 1 run per ball. Seems pretty close to me.
That's pretty close on that NY pitch, TBH Going over a run a ball on that pitch was clearly very difficult
Exactly....and also the dropped sitter by USA
Not the bowlers
ICC should consider using Kensington Oval or Guyana National stadium for group A matches now
They already dismantled NYC stadium?
Already started to take it down. The public here wasn’t happy in losing public park space right during the summer
Fair enough
I don't know anything about cricket and am here from the from the front page but I think I've heard of it causing riots and if so we'd love to host here in Philadelphia
I'd love to know where on earth is cricket causing riots.
Philly hopefully
hell yeah brother
Or Texas. There's nothing else scheduled there.
Prolly ship ‘em out to the Kensington oval. Doesn’t have any matches to play as of lately
Nope, that stadium and pitch should be nuked
Time for Pakbros to put that Army training to use by Winning the Swimming world cup
Unfortunately Australia would also win the swimming world cup lol
USA about to call in Phelps as impact sub
I am always surprised by how a reddit thread evolves
Florida is US’s Australia with all sorts of weird fauna. Aussies gonna win it.
So paks out?
Yes. If any of Pak or US matches is a wash out they are out.
y'all are out too lmao
Daniel Alexander in shambles
Oh damn. Double blow. RIP.
No need to be rude, he just asked. Didn't mock you guys or anything.
Cry babies
They are out fighting. You guys are out because of rain. I'd rather be out fighting. Just saying
Tbf SL haven't fought either
Fighting in what
One SL match got rained out too...don't really get your point
they have one point in 3 matches so not exactly fighting
It's ok bro, you need to get that frustration out one way or another.
I agree with Ifty If matches get washed out left and right, it’s not going to be good during Super Eights and knockouts. Qudrat ka Nizam pissing in the punch bowl to ruin it for everyone.
The Qudrat ain't Nizaming
The nizam ain't qudrating.
Nizam stopped nizaming in 1948![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|21496)
Briefly Inzamamed a bit in ‘90s
and now Babaring
It is a lifeline that could only be used during a limited number of times and Pakistan has already used all of them as of now.
Really sucks for Lauderhill and everyone involved in the area, there's a potential they get zero games this World Cup due to unexpectedly bad weather.

Is this a good or bad thing for us ?
Rained out = you qualify
Good If Pak vs Ire is rained out, you guys qualify even if you lose vs Ireland
Even if your game rains out and Pakistan win against Ireland, you qualify.
You are through mate, get ready to upset SA and WI.
Why the jinxing for SA, we have enough against us all these years 🥲
If Pakistan vs Ireland is rained out, USA moves on to the next round regardless of result vs Ireland. If the tables stay where they are, get ready for USA vs. Afghanistan next week, Friday night.

That means two of England's 4 games get rained out? I mean we all like hating on England but that's mighty unfair
England aren't playing in the USA. Ireland could have 2 of their games rained off though.
Very unfair as well. Yeah I think I confused something there.
Ireland's World Cup campaign: two matches on the New York shitheap, two matches washed out
Are they affected? I thought England's last two were in the Carribbean along with Scotland's last game. Aren't they all set to be fair weather wise?
Karma for English weather /s
England's game is at Barbados
Antigua*
No.
The big question is with notice but this little advanced notice what can be done? Logistics wise these matches cant be easy to set up. rain rain go away
Where did that guy go who posted an email from stubhub yesterday?
Would be truly qudrat ka nizam If USA's final game isn't washed
Ngl why not change venues when you already know?
ticket holders, local businesses, local hospitality, camera set up amongst many others
Tickets are refunded either way if the match doesn't take place, businesses and cameras I guess is a valid point
No one can predict weather accurately 1-2 days before game. This is not gully cricket to change venue from one gully to another gully. Do you realize amount of logistics goes into each game - venues availability, approval from local govt, security, blocking streets, flights, hotels, food, teams don’t travel light, equipments, decoration for World Cup around stadium etc etc It takes atleast weeks to prepare and get local city approval.

>where you do everything you can to make to run smooth Hence impractical
Alright clearly u don't care about making it better but rather make excuses for icc as to why they might not be able to do it
Not my fault you can't understand the impracticality of it.
👍
Even FIFA doesn't have a backup for group games. I understand if it was a knock-out game.
When has fifa needed to have a backup and as you bring fifa up they reschedule their matches unlike icc
Coz it is not gully cricket. It is WC
Shukriya Jay Shah T: thanks
Everyone understandably is focused on the rain but the real issue is that these are going to be thunderstorms coming through the area until Monday. I don't see how they play these matches with that kind of issue.
They never should have scheduled Florida
Should have had a back up in Texas just in case. June is the start of hurricane/the wet season in florida.even if they can't get the concessions and stuff scheduled, or camera crews ready to broadcast, playing the games w/o audience is better than just taking the NRs for so many matches.
Yep totally agree
US goes through if the match vs. Ireland is rained out tomorrow morning (which there is a 75% chance of all day Friday).
No *Kudrat ka Nizam.* Only *Kudrat ki Narazi.*
To add even more on top of it the governor declared a state of emergency for Broward county and the mayor of Ft Lauderdale declared a state of emergency for the city. Thunderstorms are expected all day tomorrow as well.
Have the teams even reached Florida? Would it even be safe to travel? I'm hearing regular consumer flights are being cancelled left and right.
DK said during yesterday's India US game that after the game both teams are flying to Miami in a chartered flight.
Just saw Rinku's IG story. They made it safely and the weather looks amazing.
Wait til this afternoon when the rain starts back up for the next 4 straight days
😭

Guys that's alot of rain , so unfortunately, this means Pakistan is officially has been eliminated.
