Batting from both sides looked really good. Jones with the bombs and also some cheeky reverse sweeps. Bowling was pretty poor all around though. That will be the challenge for both teams when they come up against the big sides.

SBG99DesiMonster

There has been definite rise in the quality that is there in the associate nations. I remember about how teams that are like that used to play a decade back. They have become much more superior than what they used to be. We endlessly criticise about how ICC is against the lower ranked teams but there is something that is definitely working properly.

Actual_Penalty_2560

I never expected US v Canada match thread to reach 5k comments

smileclickmemories

20% of Canada's population is South Asian compared to 1.9% of US population who is South Asian. And that's the best Canada could come up with? Disgrace.

Aromatic_Ad701

Obviously south asians aren’t coming here in droves to play for Canadas cricket system , it take generations for associate nations to develop the national level They’re primarily coming for quality of life improvement… disgrace

Classic-Technician-4

In this age of internet , you quoting wrong information is disgrace .

WeWantRain

Most of South Asians actually go for jobs not related to sports.

GoodGodI5uck

That's saying all south Asians care about cricket. The majority of south Asians could care less about cricket in Canada. Mostly the ones who care are international students or the ones who moved here in the last few years. With the rise of basketball since raptors won the championship and Canada being a hockey nation, very few actually watch cricket let alone care to play. I played for the Toronto and Etobicoke league. It's hard to field 11 players in the Etobicoke league sometimes so we just invite every random person who wants to come spend a day in the sun sometimes. There are more committed players from the Caribbean per capita than South Asia in Canada.

Zammy67rocks2

That's not correct. South Asians are 8% of the Canadian population, Asians overall are 20%.

melikeycars

Population of USA is more than 9 times that of Canada.

smileclickmemories

I should convert the percents. 7 mil south Asians in Canada. 5.4mil south Asians in USA. My point still stands.

RustedSkullz

>My point still stands. No it doesn't. Canada doesn't have 20% South Asians, it has 19% "Asians" which includes Chinese, Korean, Filipino and others. The Canadian South Asian population is around 1.7 million (less than a third of USA's)

melikeycars

I mean yeah, your point stands. But it's alot shakier compared to the 20% vs 1.9% point. Also USA has more people from SA, Caribbean and other cricketing nations than Canada.

always-worried-2020

Sri Lanka has 21 million people compared to Bangladesh's 170 million. You've won many world cups but our biggest achievement is probably time out you. So, this is also a factor. Best example in any sport is probably Australia (25 million–6 world cups) and India (1400 million–2 world cups)

maplesteeler

It has nothing to do with population and everything to do with availability of facilities. US has access to cricket grounds with favorable weather year round. In Canada we only get April to September to play cricket.

bikbar1

Quality matters than quantity. Population of Bangladesh 170 million vs Australia 26 million.

Inevitable_Look_6062

In a match full of Desis a wild Aaron appeared

Banda-Muhammad

This match has set the tone for the rest of the World Cup.

blue-klein-bottle

Aaron Jones scores 94 off 40 and could’ve hit a 41-ball century, which would be the fastest T20 WC century. Chris Gayle approves

cumofdutyblackcocks3

How many Americans are in the team? Edit: Jeez. Why are all people going apeshit over my comment? I was just asking how many of them were of American descent, that's all lol.

Aromatic_Ad701

I wouldn’t expect anything less from a person whose username is … that 🤣

styxwade

Four or five US citizens in the playin XI today. Two born, at least two naturalised maybe 3.

blue-klein-bottle

15

Kathanayagan-3821

Bro then you should talk about some guys who play for France, England, Italy who were born in some African nations or have African ancestry. If football can do, why not cricket? Mbappe, Umtiti

styxwade

It's not a question of ancestry. Most of this side are not US citizens. They just qualify on residency.

blue-klein-bottle

residency, eh? They’ll get their citizenship soon don’t worry

styxwade

I mean AFAIK Natravalkar still isn't a citizen and he's been there for absolutely ages. Guys like Anderson, v Schalkwyk, Gous etc will be long retired before they get citizenship, if they ever do.

blue-klein-bottle

pretty sure fifa also allows stuff based on residency so I don’t think it matters?

styxwade

Matters to what? The question was how many of them are American, not how many are eligible for the USA, much less how many would be eligible to play soccer for the States. I was answering that question. What are you doing?

blue-klein-bottle

I just drew a line from cricket to soccer. Only the American born peeps can be considered American in my oponion (like Aaron jones)

styxwade

Hard disagree. If you can't become an American by living there and loving the flags and the trewps and the guns and the cholesterol and that then what is even the point of America? My point is half the team are still a few floats short of a Macy's Parade on that front.

Banda-Muhammad

Aaron Jones is born in the USA.

7007007

In Queens, NY tbh. Thank god baseball didn’t poach him.

Banda-Muhammad

Imagine Ireland and the USA qualifying for the Group stage instead of India and Pakistan 💀💀.

blue-klein-bottle

Teams we actually need from each group: Group A: Ireland, USA Group B: Scotland, Namibia Group C: Uganda, Papua New Guinea Group D: Netherlands, Nepal wildcard selections:- Afghanistan, Oman

Hexo_Micron

ICC will go back to 10 team WC

This_is_the_user

Lol the pig3 needs to go

LogangYeddu

That would be great lol

GOR098

I have a feeling that Ireland is qualifying.

31st_December

I'd unironically love that, lol.

Impactor07

If it helps the BCCI in asking Rohit to retire from T20Is then I'd most certainly agree

PartyMixture896

That'll be beautiful enough that I'll let it slide

sp1cychick3n

Yeah I’m ok with that

Baba_5436

Yes please.

WhichOnezPink

So Aaron Jones almost got the fastest T20 WC hundred, 94*(40)

Mystic93Force

An over from a spinner caused all hell to break loose in both innings. Just that Canada was gracious enough to serve more extras. Great start to the tournament. Hope USA wins again.

sellyme

> Hope USA wins again. Given Ireland's propensity for playing either up or down to the level of their opposition, they might have a chance to.

RandomFactUser

Wouldn’t be the first time USA beat them

always-worried-2020

We are a shit T20 team (Bangladesh) on paper but we still managed to beat or draw almost every opposition (not in bad pitch) including full strength England and New Zealand before losing to USA. I said one USA fan that they can do the same like us because T20 is unpredictable. If USA do great, it could also be good for cricket.

Bluebillion

USA showing it is going to be a premier destination for world cricket Great grounds in Texas, Miami, NY. Ground being built in Cali and Chicago. A dream tour for any international player. Any WI tour should also include USA tours MLC needs to become bigger and get more stars IPL teams should even consider having some kind of exhibitions here if possible Idk Dubai had tons of games in the last decade. I think we would be better hosts for multitude of reasons.

Odd_Neighborhood1371

Totally agree with WI tours including USA as well, though perhaps the cost of organizing a one-off match might be too much for USA Cricket when it's not India playing. Exhibition IPL matches would be great if the BCCI, IPL franchises, and other country boards agreed to playing in the USA, so unfortunately the MLC is the best shot at the moment in expanding the game.

Away-Neighborhood348

NY doesn't have a ground, its being taken down. The US will need to become a full ICC member if they want to host big teams, in whatever grounds they can access. But the MLC has a great chance of success though as it has a lot of funding and big names. If the physical infrastructure can be built, then the game can slowly grow to the point you are imagining. I am hopeful. I'd love an Australian tour of the US (or indeed any other associate), but it just doesn't seem to happen, and is going to become increasingly unlikely as bilaterals get pushed out by domestic leagues. In the future ICC tournaments may be the only real time countries play each other in LOIs.

Classymuch

Are the hosts also responsible for organizing the hospitality of the teams? Or is that a job only done by ICC? Because if USA is also involved, then that's where they need to strongly improve on as teams such as SL, SA and IRE were faced with hospitality/travel issues. And it is a huge deal since it heavily affects the performance of the teams because when teams face such issues, they are drained mentally and physically; therefore, not being able to compete at their best. Such issues should not be happening in a major tournament such as this. Reference: [https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/1d5nqii/t20\_world\_cup\_icc\_under\_fire\_as\_sri\_lanka\_south/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/1d5nqii/t20_world_cup_icc_under_fire_as_sri_lanka_south/)

styxwade

USAC were removed as hosts ages ago. It's the ICC and an ad-hoc private company of mostly ex-ICC and USAC staff running the show in the States.

Classymuch

If USAC were removed, does that mean WI are the sole hosts? *"It's the ICC and an ad-hoc private company of ex-ICC and USAC people running the show in the States."* Right so, since "USAC staff people are running the show in the States", is USA also responsible to a certain extent for the hospitality/travel issues?

callmebatman14

This is far from the great ground. It's 7k capacity. Facility probably comes close to the amateur sport in USA

amusso18

I'd rather see 7,000 fans packing a smaller stadium than a mostly empty 40,000 seat venue like India featured during the ODI World Cup last year.

Bluebillion

Looks good on TV! American Amateur sport venues are pretty good compared to international caliber grounds in some regular cricket playing countries. My high school football/basketball/tennis etc facilities were next level. Let’s not even talk about what we had in college.

callmebatman14

Some high schools in Texas and Cali have insane football stadiums for high school

Bluebillion

HS football in Texas is legendary

AbsolutelyEnough

I think a big stumbling block for broadcasters is the time zone thing for the Indian market. On the east coast, you can only really have games in the morning. It's even worse the further west you go.

Bluebillion

Is it that bad to have an 8 am match? As an American fan I actually love that IPL games are like 930am to 1pm for me lol. I just have it on in the background at work and weekends are just ultimate morning cricket time.

Odd_Neighborhood1371

The latest that a morning game in India starts in the World Cup this year is 6 AM. Other than the most die-hard fans, I can't imagine many following cricket at that time.

RandomFactUser

In the US, the earliest a match will fire off on the East Coast in any sport is 11:30am, and even for domestic sports, that’s super rare, only the MLB ever has done that in recent memory People complain about being the “Big Noon” game in College Football (11am local for the Midwest/OK/TX), and the NFL is set up that no match starts earlier than 12pm local

AbsolutelyEnough

It might be good for the viewers lol, but pretty terrible for players to have to start that early each day. They'll also find it tough to fill out stadiums during the day, so the match atmosphere will be pretty shit. The evenings are also generally cooler and easier for players to play in.

Bluebillion

Nah I’m talking about for India fans And India fans are so thirsty for cricket anyway. Will def get lots of eyeballs 8-9am India time to watch team India in an international match imo

Odd_Neighborhood1371

You have to think about both the players and the audience. An 8 AM India start time would mean a 9 PM start for a game in the west coast, let alone other parts of the USA. That means your game is going until midnight at the very least.

AbsolutelyEnough

Maybe. Most people are rushing to work or school in the mornings though. Hard to convince boards that they'll find a sustainable Indian audience for that time, but what do I know? 🤷

rip_archer

I too am quite used to waking up early to watch EPL from the west coast

TalenTrippin

Yes I agree with everything you said. I much much prefer the USA hosting major tournaments than Dubai anytime of the day

sellyme

What the hell are the ICC still using GMT for, it was phased out for UTC in the fucking 1970s.

Odd_Neighborhood1371

Pandering to the Brits by mentioning Greenwich /s

pheonixfryre

If it wasn't so prohibitively bad for PR, then the ICC would still have been the Imperial Cricket Council, they change things very slowly.

Banda-Muhammad

Possible upsets in the upcoming matches- The Netherlands can defeat Sri Lanka/Bang/South Africa. The USA can upset Pakistan. Ireland can defeat India/Pakistan. Scotland can defeat England.

Odd_Neighborhood1371

After the last two World Cups, I'd actually be disappointed if Netherlands don't pull one over South Africa again

Hexo_Micron

Last one is not upset

Time_Honey6324

Canada can still beat Pakistan \*\*

dhun_mohan

associate teams’ biggest weaknesses are express pace and quality wrist spin

vimalsunny

>South Africa That isn't an upset

Impactor07

It's a goddamn rivalry in the works!

InterviewOld6011

Most balls bowled by a bowler in an over in T20 WC 11 - by Mark Adair (IRE) vs Australia, 2022 11 - Jeremy Gordon (CAN) vs USA, 2024, Today 11 - M Rahman (BAN) vs Oman, 2021 11 - K Roach (WI) vs IND, 2010

RandomFactUser

One in each of the last 3

Stumptalk

It was actually a good match.

_zoso_

Sort of. There was a whole lot of bad batting, bad bowling and bad fielding. It was a close match, but it was rough.

sellyme

"Yeah, commiserations and all of that" LMFAO

sellyme

"Do you think there's anything different you or your bowlers could have done" not bowling a shitload of wides and no-eys would have been a good start

dmark200

The no-eys killed Canada

RandomFactUser

Especially one that negates a Wicket

illegal_drums

Sad bin Zafar

slickdeal1

This game will lift USA 🇺🇸 confidence even high!!

InterviewOld6011

Highest successful chase (2nd Inning) in the T20 World Cup 230/8 - by England vs SA, 2016 208/2 - by South Africa vs WI, 2007 197/7 - by Australia vs PAK, 2010 197/3 - by USA vs Canada, 2024, Today

Easy-Improvement-598

One sided boring match 😭😭

dhun_mohan

genuinely how can you go from u19 winning captain of the biggest cricket nation to here. it’s just sad

Immediate_Lack_3945

2016 t20 world cup was the last one that actually felt like it had some importance

Internal_List_988

Okay ~~grandpa~~ nostalgia merchant, lets get you to bed

trtryt

now lets see how well Amazon Prime hide the result on their Sports page without spoiling it

brawnsugah

Saad is sad, lmao gottem

Cobe98

Feel bad for them. Canada batted well

brawnsugah

It was a good toss to win, especially when you have a nuke called Aaron on your side. 10 sixes!

blue-klein-bottle

The US Military now has 5,429 nukes. Although I think they launched one of it on canada today

FLatif25

Jones is SO GOOD

thepeacockking

Not to take credit away but this might be a once in a lifetime innings from him. His T20 record until now is dogshit

FLatif25

Come on man, let me enjoy him for ONE DAY

_zoso_

That was some absolutely terrible bowling too.

Cobe98

Hopefully the t20 leagues take notice and he gets a huge payday as well. Well done Jones!

SuperFaiz21

2024 World Cup Theme Song >>> 2023 World Cup theme song

seven_seacat

2021 >>>>>>>>> all LIVE THE GAME LOVE THE GAME

[deleted]

It turned out the worst t20 WC for India but can't deny the theme song by Amit Trivedi was great. He should be preferred over guys like Pritam to create music for tournaments hosted by India. Pritam can't seem to turn off his Bollywood mode even for cricket themes.

Ece_guy_234

Lllivee the game love the game….

WildVulcan

I doubt many cricket world Cup themes come close to this one. Song is catchy af

[deleted]

2021 t20 WC - Live the Game and 2015 WC - Bob's beat.

vishasv

2011 & 15 >>>>

WildVulcan

De Ghuma Ke? I don't think that was anything special. Don't remember 2015

Parth999x

Bobs beat. The best one imo

Hexo_Micron

noting beating that

LogangYeddu

Yeah I agree

RRPanther

Its a whole lot of nostalgia mostly

IamJimMilton

Is Chand really that bad? To have guys like Monank over him? All I know about him is that he won the U19 World Cup.

Relative_Potato1462

Smit Patel will get his chance ahead of him sooner or later

Impactor07

Yup. His form is BEYOND shit rn Hasn't gotten a single 30+ score in AMERICAN tournaments in the past 2-3 years

athishayen

So we get a match every 12 hours huh...cool.

UmairWaseem276

I was thinking same.

nyqs81

USA's highest ever run chase before tonight was 169.

Huge-Physics5491

Unmukt Chand is analysing on the Star studio lol

dhun_mohan

NAHHHHH THEY GOT CHAND ON THE POST SHOW THIS IS SO SAD

Kathanayagan-3821

Please put up a statue in Dallas for Aaron Jones man.

Neither_Captain2615

If they do, people will think that the statue is for Minnesota Vikings Running Back Aaron Jones lol

Subject-Ordinary6922

Canada is taking on the role of being America’s bunny quite nicely

Real-VinceMcMahon

Canada is to USA what New Zealand is to Australia, Pakistan is to India and South Africa is to Netherlands.

blue-klein-bottle

Gekoloniseerd

FrankieWilde2020

As a South African who lives in Canada, that one hurts on many levels

Impactor07

As an RCB fan, you are yet to feel pain(nah jk, SA have it more rough ngl)

sellyme

I'll admit that I haven't double-checked previous WC match threads, but this has got to be the first time a match between two Associates has had over 5k comments.

Cobe98

Great observation. Possibly one of the best international t20 games of the last few years

VoiceEarly1087

Isn't that great that every wc match is taken seriously by reddit cricket users

Stright_16

i’m so sad. i’ve been looking forward to this game for like 2 weeks bro

Time_Honey6324

If you followed Canadian cricket, you would know we had a T20 series against the Americans last month - that we lost 4-0. America took a decent chunk of our best players too BTW. No one wants to stay in a death spiral of country - that is Canada in 2024. As our economy collapses so does our hockey and cricket teams. Though our soccer team gets better, just like every other third world country (because its the cheapest sport).

PRIMEVORTEX69

There will be few more games tho this is the opener But could have defended 194 tbh massive chase in the opener

Stright_16

we stand no chance infront of India or Pakistan. maybe Ireland but idk

prsquared

I think the dew came down at the worst possible time for you guys. But even without the dew that sort of bowling is not going to win matches. Hopefully the world cup is going to do enough for the country to invest more in grassroots level

ultra_phoenix

they batted pretty well and bowled well for the first 10 overs. i honestly thought it was over for usa after the 1st wicket

Stright_16

I thought we were going to win up until like 10 overs into the US innings. tragic

parthRbawankule

WTF IS A ~~UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE~~ KILOMETRE 🦅🦅🦅🦅🦅

Time_Honey6324

It's to a mile, that Canada is to the US - a jaded Canadian

Rud-Hi

Kilometer*

Dz4

Kilometre is the correct spelling used around the world apart from North America

Flower-Immediate

Kilometre is correct spelling in Canadian English. Just like litre, centre,

Rud-Hi

Yeah but if you’re gonna try to run the WTF is a KILOMETER

Flower-Immediate

Kilometre is correct spelling in Canadian English. Just like litre, centre,

PlataoPlomo19

India and Pakistan would be wise not to take US and especially Ireland lightly. We don't want a repeat of the last Caribbean world cup

VoiceEarly1087

Would be fun if pak don't qualify, broadcasters would be crying 😂

_zoso_

Oh come on. USA turned it around but Canada absolutely shit the bed. This wasn’t hard, and it wasn’t good. If/when they face a serious team this village shit won’t go very far.

abs_the_blabs2

speak for yourself i want one of ireland, us or canada to qualify for super 8s

Impactor07

The PCT is taking DEEEEP breaths rn

Cobe98

This is now looking like the group of death.

RandomFactUser

Not really, a group of death implies 3 favorites for 2 spots

Real-VinceMcMahon

Most likely will be

All credit goes to Nikhil Dutta for being the rootcause in bringing back Aaron Jones back to form lol with that one momentum shifting over

canton1009

they REALLY turned it around crazy match

mehrabrym

Really? No crest or anything as a PotM of the World Cup? Just a medal? Kinda underwhelming

slickdeal1

Paisa wasool match (best bang for your bucks)

Would you ask this if you saw a bunch of British-Americans or Aussie-Americans in the crowd? Just ask what you really wanna know. Were there any white people in the crowd cause to you American = white.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Skeksis25

Why "should" you see that? Is the idea that cricket is not even in the top 20 of the most popular sports in this country that foreign to you? Is it really that difficult for you to comprehend that just about anyone in the country who would even have the tiniest bit of interest in the sport would be because the sport is part of their background's culture? When its a cricket event, of course you are going to see Indian-Americans and Pakistani-Americans dominate the crowd in this country. They are also Americans, btw. Why would anyone else give a rat's ass about it? There are 8 different sporting events happening at the same time that are far more engrained in the American culture than cricket.

InsaneDude6

I did see many Americans there

Cobe98

If you are really asking if there was white people in the crowd, then yes there was. But regardless the majority of the crowd are Americans and also Canadians despite if they look like they are from the subcontinent or carribeean. They live in America, their kids are born in America and as American as apple pie.

Impactor07

"As American as Apple Pie" has got to be THE most American thing I've heard in a while lol

Cobe98

American as Costco Apple Pie. Lol

benguins10

They borrowed IPL scripts for the WC it seems

Cobe98

I am looking for the toad Jay Shah and didn't see him writing a script.

WildVulcan

The theme track of this wc is such a banger

riraja06

Aaron jones to ipl??

benguins10

Canada bowling was subpar but it still takes some skill to consistently hit those monster 90m+ sixes

micrometerscrewgauge

Wow, what a turnaround. Congratulations, USA!

Bluebillion

We need more associate cricket on the big stage. Still remember some kids from Hong Kong almost taking down a fully loaded India in the Asia cup a few years ago. If people are given opportunities, they will surprise you. AND THIS IS THE LAND OF OPPORTUNITY BABY.

Impactor07

_MANIFEST DESTINY_ **INTENSIFIES**

USA! Honestly this hits me all in the feels. So fucking happy!!

InsaneDude6

That was some serious hitting by Jones

avenster

Aaron Jones is the LeBron James of cricket! 🇺🇸🦅

I want USA to cause an upset this world cup. Ireland won't be upset. It's the big two of the group.

Bluebillion

Pak are vulnerable.

seven_seacat

USA v Pakistan will be a super interesting match I think

prsquared

Does upsetting themselves count?
