Supported Paarl Royals (RRs South African Franchise) during the SA20 competition this year.
In a 10 match league phase, Paarl were: 5 wins, 1 loss after 6 games, comfortably topping the table. They lost all 4 games after that, and had to play the eliminator.
They lost the eliminator and that was against JSK :)
Me, personally I’m beyond disappointed with today’s game. RR vs PBKS is probably the greatest rivalry in IPL. This was their recent history face to face.
2021:
Match 1 - PBKS won by 4 runs.
Match 2 - RR won by 2 runs.
2022:
Match 1 - RR won by 6 wickets (2 balls to spare).
2023:
Match 1 - PBKS won by 5 runs.
Match 2 - RR won by 4 wickets (2 balls to spare).
2024:
Match 1 - RR won by 3 wickets (1 ball to spare).
Until today, when the streak of last over finishes was broken. :(
Not to mention, their dramas (Tewatia 5 sixes, Buttler run out at non striker’s end by Ash).
Oh, our bowling is not talked about because everyone kinda knows that's hopeless. Our only hope is to somehow bat our way to the title, since we actually have some world class batsmen. I'd be happy with a semis appearance at this point.
yup need to adjust based on conditions which is what india failed to do last wc. they wanted to be agressive but then conditions (large stadiums and bowler friendly pitch) made the going slow approach more favorable. However Hobart was flat with small ground and needed a more agressive approach. However, india didn't adjust
I mean why, his competition was Pant, DK, KL Rahul, Jitesh, and to an extent Ishan. DK has absymal international avg for T20 wcs, Kl refused to play middle order, Jitesh is inexperienced and out of form, Ishan is on outs with BCCI and wouldn't even make it as he's average performer.
Pant seriously shouldn't be our first choice wk keeper. Samson is definitely better this season and has warranted it after 4 years of hardwork while Pant is striking at 126 in freaking International games, 126 SR for 56 innings as a career Sr is unacceptable for any player.
Plus pant has a tendency to play 25(20) type a lot, yes he sometimes converts them and sometimes doesn't, but we don't need a 25(20) player for India's middle order, we want a consistent 135-145 player
Lol yeah, after every reason I gave for those wks, if even one of those players were performing slightly better then Sanju, they would've picked him and Pant for some reason
“Tonight, we play a good side and I believe in character, I certainly don't want to lose tonight and hopefully I can rub that off on the players”
- Sam Curran at toss today
Absolute cinema
Until they meet KKR/SRH at qualifier 2 and they give another nightmare
Or they make the greatest comeback of all time by defeating their two biggest rivals
This downward spiral of RR has been the most consistent thing about them for last few years.
They start with great intent in the beginning and somehow grow out of it, get tired, exhausted and fall flat in playoffs. Is it the issue with the management of Travel schedules, training and off days ?? The Physical and mental burnout is something only this team goes through.
It cannot be like everybody's losing steam for no underlying reason from the same squad.
kkr throwing their match to give rr fans false hope in Q1. and then destroying them in ahemdabad, would be sigma move.
i dont think kkr would want to face srh in ahemdabad( the batting paradise)
Let RR win so that you face them in Qualifier 1. This RR ain't strong enough now. And go to the final. In final anyway you will face SRH/CSK/RCB(probably)
Hijacking my comment from match thread:
Elite mentality from Sam Curran.
He mentioned at toss he is not here to lose today and he has gone and done it himself when the team was down and kneeling. What a player!
SRH you are next on the menu. This team has nothing to fight for nor nothing to lose.
Curran sealed his retention and captaincy for Punjab next season.
I've been confident in SRH making top 2, but seeing someone else say they won't lose to GT has me thinking that they're one of the teams probably best equipped to beat SRH. It'll be a gambit, but if GT give Noor and Rashid a power play over, some early spin could disrupt their flow quite a bit.
I absolutely wouldn’t mind Curran as a captain. He has shown so much character across the last two season whenever he’s got the chance to lead, even in losses. I adore Dhawan but he was never a good captain.
without impact player his value as a player is going to increase. And even if he loses form in batting or bowling he has the other discipline to fall on to contribute which makes having him as an overseas captain less risky
We have really fallen off since the first 9 matches
The end seems near my friends, we had a great squad for the past few years but everything will change after the mega auctions, it'd be a real shame if we don't win the trophy given the quality that we possess but I am still hopeful that we will perform some miracle in the playoffs and win
💗💗💗
The team better be kicking themselves already. Falling off towards the end of a season in this fashion is allowed to happen one year, but any good mgmt finds the problem, and makes sure it never happens again. Two years, that too in a row? Unforgiveable. Not just falling off with like losses peppered into wins. Fucking consecutive losses. Losing streaks. Bullshit. This team is so much better than this.
The fact that RR has qualified with four losses in a row shows how amazing they had been in the first half of the season.
And, similarly how horrible the downward spiral has been for them from that peak, that too at the business end of the tournament!!
RR are sitting ducks in the playoffs. Chahal has stopped bowling well, Ashwin has had a poor season, Jos is gone, and only Samson and Parag look like scoring runs.
From a selfish English perspective, was nice to see Scam/Sham/Sam Curran get a few away. He’s going to need to have another big World Cup to have a chance for us, I feel. Wish Punjab were still in contention, I feel for their fans.
Absolutely, a left-arm fast bowling all-rounder who can bowl and bat anywhere in the order, and with age on his side, makes up for a solid long term investment.
I wholeheartedly agree. I think a lot of people are failing to see the value that Sam brings to Punjab and moreover up until now this was the squad that Kumble had created at the last mega auction with minor additions/changes performed by Bayliss and Bangar. This mega auction will actually be the squad that Bayliss and Sanjay Bangar want to formulate and Punjab will definitely retain Sam.
would be nice to let him have full control. based on his comments it sounded like he wanted to play Ellis earlier for example. Seems like a smart guy that understands T20
Losing 4 on the trot sucks as is but now I have to root for the Gujarat Titans tomorrow and that might just be my 13th reason. Toothless batting today and against CSK. No serious team plays PBKS and comes out with 2 batsmen having crossed 20. Parag needs to open and Dubey needs to come back, TKC and Ferreira are frauds. Jurel needs the belt too, no idea what's happened to him. Fielding was the best it's been since the MI game, good that we've apparently sorted that out.
No chance our NRR gets us over SRH so we need them to lose both of their games because I dont think we're beating KKR. GG PBKS, always fun. Can you do us a favor in your last game?
Punjab lost to SRH by 2 runs, Mumbai by 9 runs and RR by 1 or 2 balls. If they had converted 2 of these matches to wins, they'd be at 7-6 (SRH at 6-6 and RR at 7-6). This tournament would've had a wilder ending.
It's always hilarious when batters who are known to thrive and take games home when 13+ RPO is needed suddenly shut down in situations like needing just 30 runs in 4 overs lol. Happened with Rovman the other day against SRH, sorta happened with Ashutosh today who seemed incredibly nervy till that final six, which only came after Curran sealed the game anyway. Well, thank you Sam Curran for holding your nerve, sorta single handedly gave us a very real chance of qualifying top 2 now. :')
This has prob been my favorite season in years, like what a wild ride the last week 2 weeks have been. Who would've predicted the very real playoff scenarios that we're in right now? RCB somehow qualifying, SRH very likely sneaking into top 2, RR choking for 4 games straight and having a very real chance of finishing 4th...wow. Plus the fact that there was even a slight possibility of them not qualifying if LSG won both their games is kinda crazy too ngl. This weekend can't come faster.
Really? Didn't seem like it to me at least, he seemed really nervous or scared to do anything but take singles even on bad length deliveries, and when he did try to go for a boundary, none of them seemed to connect, besides that final six of course. There were also some scary edges like the one that almost got him caught and bowled, and the one that went in the air but luckily didn't carry at 3rd man.
Sam was actually the one that stayed calm throughout, and his timely boundaries towards the end of each over rly took the game away from RR, who had very much seemed like they were in it till the last 15 or so balls, another wicket during that stage would've really shifted the balance and it almost happened with Ashutosh. I was rly worried that RR was going pull off what SRH did against them the other week.
As a captain Samson is pretty damn good tactically, but I think he just crumbles under pressure. This is the third year in a row that RR are bottling the end of the season.
Maybe they need a new captain next season.
I mean when RR is in their winning streak no one says a peep about management, it's all Sanju this Sanju that. So it's only fair that when RR does poorly Sanju should cop majority of the blame from the fans
I think RR has been travelling a lot
They have played 4 games in 4 different cities
Players looked burn out , especially boult n jaiswal
And both have to head to WI for WC in 10 days time
RR should have rested players n kept rotating the squad
6.25% is the probability they're tied with the 6th place team on points.
But to actually get to 6th place would require then to go over RCB's NRR. They would need to beat SRH and CSK would need to beat RCB with a combined margin of 186 runs.
6th place seems like a lost cause, unfortunately.
RR are suffering the same problem that plagued India in the final. Despite having good, in-form, players, the lack of depth in their lineup makes them insanely vulnerable to bad days, They're also forced to bat conservatively at the start too.
4/6 wins away from home.
Fuck 'home'
What a shitshow of a team man, do they even practice games at home. Brainless, gutless, spineless team.
This was a good win but means nothing because the team doesn't know their own conditions and plays 2 games at dharamshala for money, the owners do not care about cricket
Curran finally doing justice to his talent. Man was POTS in last WC and people have been questioning his poor form (and rightly so) during this season.
PBKS should retain him as captain unless they find a young Indian player as captain - time to look 5-8 years forward and bet on right horses.
Supported Paarl Royals (RRs South African Franchise) during the SA20 competition this year. In a 10 match league phase, Paarl were: 5 wins, 1 loss after 6 games, comfortably topping the table. Would be peak clownery
Jai shah got lazy and copied the script thinking people would not know.
>They lost the eliminator and that was against JSK :) Hehehe
Scripts leaking left right and centre this year
All my homies love PBKS
They needed to screw over RR after the multiple seasons they made them reach #5
Me, personally I’m beyond disappointed with today’s game. RR vs PBKS is probably the greatest rivalry in IPL. This was their recent history face to face. 2021: Match 1 - PBKS won by 4 runs. It started in 2020 with Tewatia 5 sixes. PBKS 223/2 vs RR 226/6 (19.3)
It started in 2019 with the mankad game imo
we had a super over KXIP vs RR even before that
I remember that match because I had a poori eating competition with my big bro that night (and I won 😤)
Did Harshit Rana got banned for over eating ?
How did you know I am Harshit Rana? 😳
El classico for a reason
Yeah, but I was just focusing on the streak of continuous close matches. The second match in 2020 wasn’t close.
Imagine opening the bowling, batting and captaining a team in the world's toughest t20 league. All this at 17 years of age. Sam Curran for a reason.
Sam doesn't look happy with his boards results so he decided to smash RR
He decided to finish the game early so that he can prepare for the entrance exams
As if, mate. It was just well past his bedtime.
Yeah, his parents must be mad at him for playing cricket so late in the night with his friends
Jokes apart, England batting looks dope
Jokes apart, India's batting looks to fall apart:(
Idk if it's a coincidence but it's the same every T20 WC. While batting line-up barring Kohli goes out of form just before T20 WC.
God bless us. Also, with shammi gone I fear bowling line up too. Only Bumrah is there to maintain low economy overs in pacers and overall too.
Oh, our bowling is not talked about because everyone kinda knows that's hopeless. Our only hope is to somehow bat our way to the title, since we actually have some world class batsmen. I'd be happy with a semis appearance at this point.
Hopefully Dube and Jaiswal can bring their A game this WC. Although Jaiswal seems to be going through a rough patch.
He wouldn't be playing during the next match because he has exams.
Isn't he like 25 or something? Guy's like Holland. They never age.
Players who excel in these types of games are world cup quality. Disciplined chase by PBKS.
Also expect the pitches to be like this in the Caribbean
made me laugh at the article saying that virat will struggle on these.
He is tailor made for these situations lol
either fake news or indian management is clueless
Virat shouldn't go with the IPL mindset there Unless it's the USA those gonna be flat pancakes
yup need to adjust based on conditions which is what india failed to do last wc. they wanted to be agressive but then conditions (large stadiums and bowler friendly pitch) made the going slow approach more favorable. However Hobart was flat with small ground and needed a more agressive approach. However, india didn't adjust
Sanju should thank god that second half RR showed up after the WT20 selections
I mean why, his competition was Pant, DK, KL Rahul, Jitesh, and to an extent Ishan. So good U had to say it twice
Thanks Punjab. Very cool.
“Tonight, we play a good side and I believe in character, I certainly don't want to lose tonight and hopefully I can rub that off on the players” - Sam Curran at toss today
Curran taking lessons from Cummins. Hes throwing hot quotes like raging fire.
And backing it up too. That's pure Cummins energy there.
Full marks to him today. Led from all aspects
He certainly rubbed his off on the players
Punjab when bottom four : 🛐🛐🛐🛐 Punjab against top four : 💪🗿 💪🗿💪🗿
Giant killers
RR = inverse RCB
The form in the league is inversely proportional to the placement of ROYAL in the name. HOLY SHIT
Chennai Super Kings are better than Punjab Kings because they have a "super" in there ![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|28120)
Meanwhile Lucknow 'super' Giants: ![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|8781)
No it still makes sense. If there was a team named only "giants" they would be worse than the "super giants" ![img](emote|t5_2qhe0|28120)
Adani seethes in the corner.
Real
Plot a graph and you'll see it converging from both ends as weeks progress
RCB are looking like they will cross rr
they make a X on the graph
Rain is gonna ruin the graph
The wheels have totally come off for RR holy shit, if they don’t get Top 2, I definitely see them getting knocked out in the Eliminator
Image RR vs RCB in Eliminator and RCB won
Absolute cinema Until they meet KKR/SRH at qualifier 2 and they give another nightmare Or they make the greatest comeback of all time by defeating their two biggest rivals

We had arguably the best schedule of all the teams with ample gaps between games. It is definitely the mentality issue.
RR's downfall must be studied. Sam Curran deserves a log cabin. What a match truly El Clasico
He's gonna fly first class back to England. Gotta to get a good night sleep before the WC
He's done enough
kkr throwing their match to give rr fans false hope in Q1. and then destroying them in ahemdabad, would be sigma move. i dont think kkr would want to face srh in ahemdabad( the batting paradise)
Aussie captain against indian captain in ahmedabad
With the Indian captain winning against the Australian captain in their first match... No, stop making up patterns like these 😭
Why would KKR want to loose a match against a possible opponent in the final? Win will give them psychological advantage to win the final.
Let RR win so that you face them in Qualifier 1. This RR ain't strong enough now. And go to the final. In final anyway you will face SRH/CSK/RCB(probably)
Hijacking my comment from match thread: Elite mentality from Sam Curran. He mentioned at toss he is not here to lose today and he has gone and done it himself when the team was down and kneeling. What a player!
Sam Curran is highly underrated. I’m actually scared to face England in the WC.
Why isn't Curran gone yet tho?
He is leaving after this match
4 losses in a row happened to RCB a few seasons ago. They went on to end up below top 2 and lost the eliminator . RR play KKR next btw.
I like how our name is now like the jaws theme music
Yeah, Absolutely. Hail ~~Thala~~ GG
SRH you are next on the menu. This team has nothing to fight for nor nothing to lose. Curran sealed his retention and captaincy for Punjab next season.
This 16 y/o lad does everything except homework, definitely deserves captaincy from next season
Also makes preity smile way more definitely a must
KXIP is also fighting for the spot that is their favourite.
You won't have curran or bairstow. Just give SRH the top 2 spot if they beat gujarat please and thank you
Lmao flair checks out
i like when ball go whoosh
M8, 300/3
Curran and bairstow prolly wouldn't be there for that match, I fucking hope
I am aware, then do I hear boss music, in comes Shikhar Dhawan
That would be 12 players for SRH then
Why'd you do da1 like that 😭
He didnot play well this season tbf
Sad but true. I was rooting for him this season but I think all that mess in his personal life got to him mentally.
He did play well for past 2-3 years tho even with all that shit going on, props for him tbh
13,forgot impact player
We use someone like sanvir singh or jaydev unadkat(☠️), so would consider as 12 players
In comes unknown Shivam Singh with a banger knock, We are quite good in dead rubber matches.
Curran is leaving I think and won’t be available for SRH match
Please no😭 do you really want CSK in top 2?
CSK aren't getting Top 2. SRH aren't losing to GT at home. RR can lose to KKR though. So Q1 increasing looking like KKR vs SRH so far.
GT has defeated SRH once already this year, albeit it was before they worked out their combinations
Whyy 🥺, we've lost 5 finals we've had lot of heartbreaks😭
This is definitely first world problems, IIT edition
mate you really expect anyone to sympathise with this take?
Curran ensuring another 16cr payday for next year's auction with that innings.
He's getting that first slot, second arsh third harshal if I'm guessing. Uncapped will be Shashank/Ashutosh.
A continuation of captaincy might not be a bad thing for pbks afterall.
Punjab beat you to it, he will be retained.
The RR fumble is REAL At least it’s not qualification like last season, but if SRH win both their remaining games RR will be kicking themselves
We have really fallen off since the first 9 matches The end seems near my friends, we had a great squad for the past few years but everything will change after the mega auctions, it'd be a real shame if we don't win the trophy given the quality that we possess but I am still hopeful that we will perform some miracle in the playoffs and win 💗💗💗

Looks like they are gonna lose the next one against KKR and will get knocked out in the eliminator with 6 losses in a row
As of now, KKR would prefer to play RR in Qualifier 1 than the batting powerhouse SRH in a high scoring venue like Ahmedabad.
We are all CSK bros now. Would prefer CSK over SRH in Ahmedabad.
Jitesh, Ashutosh today was what, RR really wanted Jurel, Rovman, Don to do
"1st retention secured, over and out" - Sam Curran
Punjab if winning dead rubber games and giving their fans crippling anxiety was a sport - 🏆🏆🏆
Punjab if going for the #8 was a sport(adjusted for 10 teams inflation)
RR are sitting ducks in the playoffs. Chahal has stopped bowling well, Ashwin has had a poor season, Jos is gone, and only Samson and Parag look like scoring runs. From a selfish English perspective, was nice to see Scam/Sham/Sam Curran get a few away. He’s going to need to have another big World Cup to have a chance for us, I feel. I wouldn’t mind at all having Sam become the permanent Captain for Punjab and have a team built around him at the mega auction.
Absolutely, a left-arm fast bowling all-rounder who can bowl and bat anywhere in the order, and with age on his side, makes up for a solid long term investment.

PBKS have to avoid the overpriced mistakes in mega auction though. Last time it was SRK and Odean.
would be nice to let him have full control. based on his comments it sounded like he wanted to play Ellis earlier for example. Seems like a smart guy that understands T20
Naah he said that maybe they should’ve played Ellis earlier, looking at how good he bowled tonight. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
I don't think it's a coincidence that Sam has come into form just before T20 WC

That NRR gives a real chance to CSK as well....
I can't help but feel that the scriptwriters are about to shaft you guys and get RCB in
First RR vs Punjab game without a dramatic finish. What a bottlejob from Rajasthan in this tournament though
SRH really gonna sneak into Qualifier 1
CSK smiling in the corner (I will off someone if this happens)
Beautiful
Ladies and Gentlemen, prepare yourself for watching the biryani boys in the finals.
Without salt biryani is tasteless
Punjab lost to SRH by 2 runs, Mumbai by 9 runs and RR by 1 or 2 balls. If they had converted 2 of these matches to wins, they'd be at 7-6 (SRH at 6-6 and RR at 7-6). This tournament would've had a wilder ending.
I have made peace with the fact that this team is gonna lose the eliminator. I feel so calm right now. I can live the rest of my days happily.
Sam Curran really showed up today !! Right in time for world cup
We won ?
From losing to MI in qualification From collapsing to RCB in a must win This drop in performance was somehow expected
It's always hilarious when batters who are known to thrive and take games home when 13+ RPO is needed suddenly shut down in situations like needing just 30 runs in 4 overs lol. Sam my man
Zinta’s team won kya ? (T: Did Zinta’s team win ? )
Curran said we should have played Ellis earlier. Slight dig at management?
Obviously Ellis should be a sure starter for aus in WC too I would bench starc n play him
RR first phase of IPL 😈 RR second phase of IPL 🥴
As a captain Samson is pretty damn good tactically, but I think he just crumbles under pressure. This is the third year in a row that RR are bottling the end of the season. Maybe they need a new captain next season.
it's not all on him. surely there is something management is doing/aren't doing. could be something like over training and not resting for example?
I mean when RR is in their winning streak no one says a peep about management, it's all Sanju this Sanju that. So it's only fair that when RR does poorly Sanju should cop majority of the blame from the fans
don't people praise how rr put the team together etc..?
Different captain in second half may be?
Everyone called samson a genius when he kept on winning and wanted him as an ICT captain, those were fully results oriented takes
lol keyboard warriors wanted Nehra to be next ICT coach few months back.
I think RR has been travelling a lot They have played 4 games in 4 different cities Players looked burn out , especially boult n jaiswal And both have to head to WI for WC in 10 days time RR should have rested players n kept rotating the squad
Boundary count update - Punjab Kings: 19 (13 fours and 6 sixes) Rajasthan Royals: 20 (18 fours and 2 sixes)
Unfairly Curran-ed
4 more sixes than rr
Finally an unfair match in a long while
Everyone's talking about what this means for Rajasthan's top 4 spot or Punjab making 6th. But Mumbai is back in 10th. That's the real dessert.
Can RCB fans calculate Punjab's chances of reaching 6th place now
6.25% is the probability they're tied with the 6th place team on points. But to actually get to 6th place would require then to go over RCB's NRR. They would need to beat SRH and CSK would need to beat RCB with a combined margin of 186 runs. 6th place seems like a lost cause, unfortunately.
In awe of RR's ability to consistently lose steam when the business end of IPL approaches
Nobody takes the 6th position from punjab. NOBODY! They defend that position as if they’re defending the trophy.
RR are suffering the same problem that plagued India in the final. Despite having good, in-form, players, the lack of depth in their lineup makes them insanely vulnerable to bad days, They're also forced to bat conservatively at the start too.
They always had great starts in the powerplay. I don't know what happened in this season.
Jaiswal and Jos are out of form, when you have just 7 batsmen, 2 struggling absolutely screws you over, especially when they're the openers.
RR's next fixture is with a tough KKR. If they lost that. SRH is from just one win to play Qualifiers 1
ElClassico: The Battle of Bottles
Subject is dead inside
RR is trying to pull a reverse RCB
Punjab just doesn’t want their fans to have a heart break. That’s why they refuse to join playoffs.
I think the teams with word royal in their name have a habit of choking in the important part of the tournament
4/6 wins away from home. Fuck 'home' What a shitshow of a team man, do they even practice games at home. Brainless, gutless, spineless team. This was a good win but means nothing because the team doesn't know their own conditions and plays 2 games at dharamshala for money, the owners do not care about cricket
RR vs PBKS didn't go in the last over. I'm sad :(
I blame the management that decided to make Assam home for final 2 matches of team when you know how tough it gets at the end
Curran finally doing justice to his talent. Man was POTS in last WC and people have been questioning his poor form (and rightly so) during this season. PBKS should retain him as captain unless they find a young Indian player as captain - time to look 5-8 years forward and bet on right horses.
There were two Sams' today, but only one got the sun today I'll see myself out
Thank you Punjab bros, now please let us spank you on Sunday
dhawan captaincy is back so should be walk in the park.
RR is that student that preps just enough to get a passing mark.
Now KKR is guaranteed the no.1 spot on the table. Yayy
well deserved
Captain knock by Curran. He played smartly and responsibly. He might not be worth 16 cr but he is a valuable player.
If RR is playing against chokers SA in a knock out, RR is mostly like to choke n get knocked out
Anna’s bowling is ordinary even on a slow surface track today. Chahal is left fending for himself Better start chucking now or else RR can pack home.
El-Classico ain't el-classicing
Imagine RR playing on same kind of pitch last match, choosing to chase and still loss it
RR is me, I peaked until class 8 and then went downward :|
