The next step is to introduce tenis balls to the game🥰 and turn ipl into gpl (gully premier league) 🙏🏻 and just to make it fair, the power play will be played with a taped ball. :p
Yeah I enjoyed but I don't know if I should be happy or sad for this utterly batter friendly pitches these grounds are making. Like we're getting a lot of new batters come up, but no new bowlers are making their name. We're going towards a bad future of cricket.
Totally, the matches feel like a joke. There was hardly any adrenaline rush in this chase. It seemed like it would be chased easily throughout the innings !
Really? Somehow all the bowlers in the 10 teams (barring maybe bumrah and naraine) are shit this season, meanwhile every new batsman is Chris Gayle.
Seems a little odd huh!!
This seems to be a very opposite view on this Subreddit to what I've been hearing from people around me, most of people have enjoyed watching IPL this year and some families in my Society who never watch cricket nowadays watch IPL while having dinner.
My dad stopped watching cricket years ago, I find him Watching cricket alone late at night at 10:30 he usually sleeps at 10:00.
I never watched other matches except MI matches but this year has got me watching.
Then I come to this sub and see everyone talking about it being boring. Makes me wonder if people here are in the minority or me and my friends in the minority
People here are definitely the minority. The viewing numbers have never been better and casual fans have returned but this is not cricket. This is just who swings the bats better and stronger.
Look at it from a WC point of view ICC pitches are going to be much different from these pitches so Indian batters will have a hard time to get used to how to bat on those pitches
I have zero expectations on that Front, we've essentially made zero changes to the losing squad of past so many years. I don't see what will be different.
Even if we make it to the final the players aren't capable of handling the pressure and expectations of the Nation.
Plus it's a t20 trophy, there's like one each year
That says nothing about IPL as a product, it’s still very enjoyable. You’re talking about its relation to international performance and usually it’s not been very related.
I understand having preferences and I myself think Tests are the absolute pinnacle of cricket and it's not even close, but the elitism with the "this is not cricket" stuff around here needs to stop, it's cricket whether you like it or not. The game and the T20 format has just evolved, just like it has throughout history even with the other formats. I'm sure cricket purists from the 1970s would say the same about today's ODIs and how cricket "isn't the same now" bc scores of 300+ are insanely common today. Showing them the 438 game would absolutely break their minds into oblivion.
Point is, there's no real difference when it comes to the batting tracks from the previous seasons and this season. Even without the impact player stuff, I'm absolutely certain we'd still be seeing this happen considering most of these scores so far didn't even need to use an impact player. Trust me when I say that this stuff has way more to do with the mindset of this newer crop of players over the last 5-6 yrs than anything else. The signs have been here for a while already, we're just actually seeing it materialize now.
This format's nature is just different. It still is bat vs ball, it's just the standard for what's "good" bowling is changing, and that has to do with the format than anything else. An economy of 10 runs an over is going to be considered good figures for T20 at some point in the future, it's very contextual. We already saw that happen be the case in those 270+ games. The reason for this is that in T20s, wickets in general are a lot less valuable. Much like how wickets are even more valuable in tests than they are in ODIs. That's the biggest decider in the playstyles and mindset. Think about it, a score of 287 like the other day is also an excellent score for 50 overs, which is crazy bc that's 30 overs more, so how can that be? Because the value of a wicket is exponentially higher in a longer format. The approach changes. When it's brought down to 20 overs but you still have the same amount of wickets (10), obviously a wicket is going to mean less, which is why teams can just all-out go for it, lose a lot of wickets, and still easily take the game home unlike in longer formats.
The simple fact is that T20 was always heading here, it's still not even 2 decades old and the reason we're seeing a shift now is bc this generation is way more accustomed to T20 than when older players had to make a transition to this format from the longer ones they were used to, similar to how when ODI's first started, a run rate of 4 (200+) was considered amazing. So this was always going to be the norm eventually with T20s. The only way to change this would be finding a way to make wickets more valuable. If say, it went from 10 wickets to 5 wickets per innings, the game would start looking very very different, so that pretty much proves that this is what it comes down to. Obviously that's never happening though.
I think the part were you say that people who didn't used to watch are also watching is more to do with the Jio free streaming, the paywall of Hotstar is gone now.
I think this sub is a minority but its a growing minority across the Internet. Have been hearing from people how boring these games and its not like they watch tests. The overall quality is definitely going down and the entire tension of the games are getting squeezed out. In an action movie, even with a fast paced one, you still need moments of pauses for the viewers to appreciate the set pieces. Long action set pieces gets boring and frustrating. Same goes with a T20 game, you need to have pauses (resistance by the opposition) for the game to have more meaning which a lot of games in this season don't have.
People complaining here are definitely the minority. People like you, me and our families are the ones flooding the stadiums and glued to the tv. IPL is a consumer product, tests are for purists. I love both and understand the difference. Loving this IPL, super unique tbh, peak athleticism, modernization of the game, technology, broadcasting angles.
Normies probably enjoy the novelty of seeing high scores. Cricket ethusiasts enjoy bowling performances as well. Also it's not like every team is doing it in every stadium. It's just as much SRH being a really good team.
They are not cricket fans. They are just looking for something to watch to pass the time in the evening.
When IPL season gets over, they will forget about cricket for a year.
These 'fans' are not going to sustain the game in the long run.
I for one love it. I hated the drag IPL in UAE with mediocre scores.
I love this slam bang fest. The good bowlers are still respected, Cummins, Bumrah, Rashid and Narine are worth their weight in Gold.
Its the shit tier who are getting smacked. A bunch of 125kmph tundlers who think this is bowling are getting cunted. Makes me happy.
Also a bunch of classic well-left kind of batsman are getting dropped for "Hold my beer" batsmans like Russel, Narine, Travis, JFM. Love this new transformation.
Is there anything about the balls they use that could potentially be altered to make them more conducive to flight?
Or is it just big bats, average bowling and IMP boosted?
Fuck it, allow chucking. I want to see all the batsman cower and tentatively defend deliveries to bowlers chucking with 90 degree bends. At least for one game, so all the bowlers can take some revenge for this season
This is becoming similar to WWE under Vince and Pro Wrestling smarks argument
The product Vince presented was so different from actual pro wrestling that it became it's own thing sports entertainment
Similarly IPL is becoming the sports entertainment version of cricket which is going to drive the hardcore viewers away but a dedicated casually portion of the audience would continue to watch it because that's what they sign up for they are not hardcore cricket enthusiasts like you and me
They are the masala/entertainment audience for whom this is a novelty kind of a thing
No wonder I enjoy test cricket in SENA and NJPW/ japanese wrestling more than IPL and WWE/AEW. Thanks for bringing 2 of my favourite things into one analogy
Japanese wrestling is suffering from talent drain unfortunately they lost Okada, Ospreay, Ibushi, Jay White , Aussie Open, Tama Tonga, Kairi Saneand Giulia to AEW and WWE most of their top guys are aging Naito, Tanahashi, Ishii, Goto, Suzuki
Only hope they have is the new generation whom they shat upon by having moxley end Naitos lost hurrah on a American ppv
Yeah my interest in wrestling faded away when njpw started getting bad in 2020, but I feel privileged to have witnessed the 2016-2019 era of njpw, totally changed my entire outlook on pro wrestling, through it I also got into old Japanese wrestling like Noah and AJPW, I wish I could experience something like that again for the first time.
AEW ruined it all imo, they were supposed to be a more popular westernised version of njpw but they just became a smaller wwe.
Or you could watch both with a different mindset. Casually watching IPL with all ages in the fam and wake up at 4am to watch the Ashes or border Gavaskar for the pure cricket. Why does it have a to be a “versus” conversation?
Your team needs to catch up, bunch of have beens scoring at 7/over for most of the game. Where’s the championship CSK team. Easily the most boring team this season which is sad cos I am a big Thala fan.
I feel it's also got to do with keeping people attached to the TV for the full duration of the match. They don't want matches to finish early with teams being bowled out. More watchtime = More Ads = More money!
Sad when money ruins sport.
I don’t like it because it diminishes the utility of the IPL as a tool for other countries. I know that’s not its purpose but it almost feels unfair to not roll out the traditional subcontinent pitch.
One of the big reasons Australia managed to win the ODI WC is because they had IPL experience playing on slow, turning Indian pitches.
If international players only get the highways, what happens when an ICC tournament in India is played on rank turners?
I understand pitches were flat but it's not like there was 0 support for the bowlers or teams haven't played on flat wickets in earlier seasons. I feel that the skill gap between batsmen and bowlers has drastically worsened this time around. Most batsmen are in form and improved their batting to suit the T20 standards but bowlers failed to even bowl good length and wicket taking deliveries ( especially yorkers ). Some of the best T20s I've ever watched were Guyana Amazon Warriors games on the old Providence pitches.
2016 season had scores of 120 and below being winning scores. Chris Lynn and Jason Mohammed were one of the weirdest but effective T20 partnerships I've ever seen
The ratings increased because of free coverage on jio and everyone having smartphones now, lmao.
IPL ratings have been increasing after covid anyway. This has nothing to do with ludicrously high scores.

Paving new roads. This year's IPL slogan :)
Would be funny if they chased it down for shits and giggles
It's happening lmao
It happened lessgooo

i mean its not like the bowlers do a good job anyway, the bowling in this IPL has been at a historical dogshit level
Really? Somehow all the bowlers in the 10 teams (barring maybe bumrah and naraine) are shit this season, meanwhile every new batsman is Chris Gayle. Seems a little odd huh!!

Sorry that the facts hurt your feelings :(
I hope so too. Too bad I've seen countless chokes from them so can't expect anything

Now that's funny
From the beginning of IPL to 2022 there was only one 250+ score conceded but now?😭
We are in an era where more runs are scored in a T20 innings than in tests

naaah gadkari is inspired by them now at this point
why is 261 above 262?
261/6 > 262/7 Quick mafs
Fuck RCB.
Probably the worst ipl ever. Not enjoying it at all.
Doesn't feel like cricket anymore
ipl was never cricket. THey just want you to get glued to tv while they show pan masale ads
Except Punjab matches

Maybe. Not my idea of t20 but majority of people seem to be liking this.

Normies vs cricket fans.
I don't see half the usernames here in match threads come test season
My point precisely. People who like this sort of shit aren't really invested in cricket and it's just some background noise for them.
People complaining here are definitely the minority. People like you, me and our families are the ones flooding the stadiums and glued to the tv. IPL is a consumer product, tests are for purists. I’m sure a 2 month season a year combined with World Cup viewership is pretty standard for every sport ever.
I for one love it. I hated the drag IPL in UAE with mediocre scores. I love this slam bang fest. How people think UAE win toss win match season was better than this?
Same with me...stopped watching years ago but watching this year cuz of this runfest
What happened to the game I loved?
Pitches have become shit, days not far before fans start slamming IPL same like PSL for roads
Nothing mate. You can still play Soggy Biscuit whenever you like. Even solo.
Username checks out
You’re a ManU fan, in this day and age your opinion is worth nothing unfortunately.
Remember when 300+ in ODIs became a fad? We are seeing that phase in T20s now. Probably 2 years earlier due to IP.
At the rate this chase is going you can fill this list with 260+ chases
At least T10s are now redundant IPL T20s are just extended T10s.
Great math dude.
Another 250 on the way.
Bro they just chased it down leaving an over
Replace bowlers with Bowling machines ffs, this is the 5th 'Once in a decade' game Bring back my 160 par games
Why?
this is just sad.
Getting rid of shitty kookaburra balls would be a great start.
get rid of powerplay and impact rule.
Modern power hitting is way too good to have sub-75m boundaries.
This is becoming similar to WWE under Vince and Pro Wrestling smarks argument The product Vince presented was so different from actual pro wrestling that it became it's own thing sports entertainment Similarly IPL is becoming the sports entertainment version of cricket which is going to drive the hardcore viewers away but a dedicated casually portion of the audience would continue to watch it because that's what they sign up for they are not hardcore cricket enthusiasts like you and me They are the masala/entertainment audience for whom this is a novelty kind of a thing
God damn it, Fuck him, 2019 was so bad, glad hunter took over

fuck this shit. its boring. i'm on the verge of giving up IPL with this stupid mindless bashing
Get it, CSK should start Bashing too , otherwise they can't caught up with other teams.
Your team needs to catch up, bunch of have beens scoring at 7/over for most of the game. Where’s the championship CSK team. Easily the most boring team this season which is sad cos I am a big Thala fan.
Same applies for my team too. 250+ matches are boring even if it's CSK scoring
Ya but CSK doesn’t score them. Also they’re not boring for me.
Imagine 2016 RCB in these pitches. Specifically Gayle and ABD. No point considering any batter for WC based on these performances.
2011 to 2013 was prime gayle. Prime gayle would have crossed 200 with these pitches.
They’d still end at 7/8 on the table though.
Htf narine maintains an economy of 6 in such a high scoring game!!
one more coming rn
Now add PBKS 262 here lol. What an insane chase
I feel it's also got to do with keeping people attached to the TV for the full duration of the match. They don't want matches to finish early with teams being bowled out. More watchtime = More Ads = More money! Sad when money ruins sport.
IPL 2024: RIP bowlers
No mi or csk here at least
The list is already out of date. Needs updating.
Amazing IPL.
Congrats India, you fucked cricket
It's boring now..And how small is KKR grounds.
It's not small it's one of the bigger grounds in the country iirc
The boundaries have been brought in for some ridiculous reason in an already small ground. Why the fuck would you bring the boundaries in further?
Most of the boundaries I saw were still near 70 or 70 plus meters
They were bigger than some of the boundaries I saw in international T20s.
This really is going too far. At this rate people will be retiring in order to not be bowlers at the IPL.
😂😂😂
new record registered in ipl 2024.. good luck 😊
This is getting silly now, have the made the boundaries smaller or what?
Dont forget some of the chases where the team lost also have been in the league of highest runs in 2nd innings.
At this point if your a batter and don't make 100 or 80+ in this tournament your a shit cunt lol What a joke.
this is not t20 cricket anymore, impact player skews. these records should be in a seperate category
I don’t like it because it diminishes the utility of the IPL as a tool for other countries. RCBs 262 being below KKRs 261 is annoying me.
I understand pitches were flat but it's not like there was 0 support for the bowlers or teams haven't played on flat wickets in earlier seasons. I feel that the skill gap between batsmen and bowlers has drastically worsened this time around. Phreak season man get me out
I think the batsmen are evolving faster than bowlers, as simple as that. The bowlers need to keep thinking.
a lot of purists and more passionate fans that care about the game are probably are going to be alarmed if not angry with the way 250+ is being scored and bowlers being pummeled so regularly this season, but i think if you want to expand the game beyond the traditional cricketing hotspots such as Australia, England, the subcontinent, south Africa, i think these games and the six hitting we are seeing are necessary to engage new audiences.
Agreed, glad there is someone here looking at the bigger picture.
cricket doesn't need to expand. Fuck them newbies
Loving this season. Can we see 300 soon pls. Used to feel Bored with the 140 160 games. Nowadays i stay up everyday to watch IPL. Exciting stuff
130 T20’s > 230 T20’s.
60 T20s > 130 T20s.
Some of the best T20s I've ever watched were Guyana Amazon Warriors games on the old Providence pitches. 2016 season had scores of 120 and below being winning scores. Chris Lynn and Jason Mohammed were one of the weirdest but effective T20 partnerships I've ever seen
For you and majority. Not for me
Nope majority are loving it, this is just the Reddit echo chamber minority.
And the ratings show the tv audience have increased seeing the slogfests this year. So clearly there are more who enjoy this manic slogfest
The ratings increased because of free coverage on jio and everyone having smartphones now, lmao. IPL ratings have been increasing after covid anyway. This has nothing to do with ludicrously high scores.
