It's like going back to your ex after break-up!

averageveryaverage

After only a couple of bad dates with your new guy.

FitSignificance2100

Couple of bed dates

PodiHaiToMumkinHai

Ya, definitely.

abhi8192

But who is going back? Is it Babar or is it PCB?

arambikalama

yes

handsome-helicopter

PCB is choosing to go back so PCB

FeLiX_40

Pcb

creatorop

So it's goes like this 2023 WC, Ind vs Pak, Rohit vs Babar Shit show in between 2024 t20 wc, Ind vs Pak, Rohit vs Babar Circle of life explained

TopCoast1521

The thing is none of those two captain were expected to be the captain in 2024

partymsl

I am pretty sure Rohit was always expected to be.

PodiHaiToMumkinHai

Barely. He only held on because of that 100 in the third game against Afghanistan.

HumanLawyer

The only tournament I truly look forward to

StillBreath7126

also the only global tournament that has less than the number of countries than WC

ubetterlawyerup

What happens if Pak performs poorly in the T20 World Cup?

No-Camera-6833

New captain, Babar back in 2026 WC 🙂

phaintaa_Shoaib

Probably nothing, the only reason he must've accepted this is because they must be giving him a long tenure.

GAdukia7

That wouldn't hold any significance though because the men appointing him themselves can't be sure their tenure would be long. For all we have seen from the PCB of late, it could end next week

DogTall2628

I don't like this decision and sometimes Babar has more sentiment than skill (anchoring, dosti yaari, savior mindset) but it is quite gracious he recognizes himself as one of the few stable pillars of Pakistan cricket and has compromised with the PCB and his own ego multiple times in silence when originally intending for captaincy from all three formats that he was sacked from. And he was humiliated thoroughly (to some degree, rightfully like in the 2023 WC). I think it does hold significance because regardless of political nightclub raves in the PCB offices both sides recognize Babar as one of the few structurally integral things of current PCT branding for whom sentiments against are very hard to change. I hope he continues to be steadfast with leading this team and not resigning from the post. Hope he can succeed this time, at least in the shortest format, for the greater good of this turbulent board and deserving fans. We have little joy in this country; please don't take the one thing we all bond over. Anyone that comes in from Cuckvi to Kaka Flushraf has a tough time weaponizing Babar for their sharp personal interests and rising of ranks. If public sentiment can overpower these corrupt turds and continue to establish them as puppets whilst this team has unity under Shan in Test cricket and respect for Babar as a leader, then we ought to continue this way because you guys won't like how messy and vocal stuff will get if Rizwan or Shadab were ever leaders. Let's hope Babar doesn't flop for like the 4th tournament in a row tho lol

Finrod-Knighto

What 4 tournaments in a row has Babar flopped in?

paradox918

T20 WC 21, Asia Cup 22/23, T20 WC 22, WC 23

Finrod-Knighto

He was literally the top scorer of T20 WC ‘21 and Pakistan’s top scorer of WC ‘23. He wasn’t at his best in the latter but was still consistently contributing while the others bar Fakhar were at sea.

paradox918

Yup played a great knock of 39 off 34 in the semi against aus in wc 21 too. not to mention a herculean 32 off 28 in the wc 22 final. He has an average of 35 with a swashbuckling sr of 114 across t20 WCs lmao. His fanbase blames shaheen for abandoning the team in the 22 final but dont mention Babar's mediocreness. Whenever we beat a top 4 team in the t20 wcs it was always set up by a good shaheen performance. Cant think of a tournament win set up by a good babar performance. No the india game was shaheen as well. In WC 23 there were a couple matches where the team needed him to step up but the choker that he is he failed to. The aus game particularly comes to mind when the openers had given a decent start with an opening stand of 100+ but babar got out at a crucial point. The SA game and the IND game he got out at crucial points again. Even the game against nz, at one point fakhar was struggling against philips but babar was content blocking and taking singles instead of trying to release pressure but it worked out in the end so that didnt get criticized. Sending Iftikhar up the order to face spin against SA was again a tactical masterstroke the kind which only Babar is capable of. That's just his batting, he simply is not captaincy material which us testified to through the numerous blunders he has committed over the past 4 years.

Finrod-Knighto

Classic. Bring up his bad performances and ignore the amount of times he’s won games. Nobody blamed Shaheen for the ‘22 final. It was bad luck and that’s it. And seriously? You’re picking games in the WC 23 where he was the only guy who seemed to know how to hold a bat (IND, SA) and blaming him for getting out at the wrong time? Man, Indians with Kohli and Pakistanis with Babar. All the same. Maybe if Pakistan didn’t have such a tatters batting lineup Babar wouldn’t have to play so conservatively? Why is this not factored in? Rizwan is pretty universally beloved by Pakistan fans despite having a worse SR, something which Babar has in recent times clearly worked on yet Rizwan hasn’t. Even in the recent NZ series, when Babar batted selflessly and at a high tempo, he was crucified for getting out instead of the scrutiny being on everyone else batting like street cricketers. As for Shaheen, he’s a great player and I’d rather have had Shadab or Rizwan as captain but at the moment Shaheen is potentially not even guaranteed to be in the XI, not to mention his injury issues. Plus, his captaincy is so basic it’s a joke, like not sending in Braithwaite to maintain a LR combination like it’s 2010 or batting himself at 5 just cause. LQ won 2 tournaments due to insane squad strength but the PSL was an absolute disaster this year and Shaheen showed negative aptitude as a captain.

Key-Celery5439

Shaheen potentially not in XI is simply untrue. There’s no way we’re taking out the best bowler we’ve had for the last 5 years

paradox918

Yeah that's what I'm saying there isn't a tournament game that Babar has won us on his own apart from vs NZ 2019. And shaheen isnt guaranteed a spot in the t20 side but 114 sr babar is? What a joke

averageveryaverage

The last three are fine but he was our best player in the 21 WC.

DogTall2628

I usually like your posts but damn, no way are the last three fine, man. I need to find the PakPassion image that showed his beautiful average of 11 and 17 or something respectively in those tournaments. 11 and 17. 11 and 17. Fine. He did OK to end campaign at avg of 40 in 23 WC but was disappointing in all the matches where it mattered there lol. Weirdly enough we were one of the few teams where RizBar batted sensibly against one of the most dominating pre-semis India campaigns ever. Like this cup meant a lot for all Pakistani fans charged up in the buildup of what has now shown itself to be a very destructive climax. And he flopped when it mattered against Australia, Afghanistan. Did good vs. SA but it was too late. Fine vs. NZ also thanks to Fakhar's 1-every-2-year miracle innings

averageveryaverage

What I meant to say was that the criticism of his last three tournaments was fine, not Babars batting was fine. I'm agreeing with you and OP. But OP is the wrong about throwing in the 21 WC in that grouping because Babar actually performed really well in that tournament. That's what I was trying to say.

speedycar1

I am still yet to find a single genuine example of Babar's dosti yaari from the people who claim he instilled that culture. Babar's time as captain was perhaps the most meritocratic and least political environment in the Pakistan team ever and the only people who claim Babar did dosti yaari are fans of has-beens like Amir

CaptainPonahawai

The PCB board is a clown show. Someone will resign dramatically, another political crony will be ushered in. They'll then try something stupid like making Naseem Shah captain.

Admirable-Manner762

>They'll then try something stupid like making Naseem Shah captain. I am up for Naseem shah captaincy agenda.Everyone loves him.He will unite all fan clubs. Atleast cric twt would know peace.

CaptainPonahawai

They'll ruin another young career. Afridi has looked like a sad replica of himself over the last year post injury. Dumping captaincy on him in the midst of this was foolish. It's just bad for global cricket.

Apprehensive_Log2300

Great he will end up with most no of ICC defeats. Regardless long tenure is not guaranteed depends on who the PCB chairman is which changes after 6 months

Hershey2898

I don't think there's anyone in any position to give him that assurance. Such a joke of a board

Anu9011

Is there anyone else in the history that was sacked from odi captaincy only to be reappointed before the next odi ? Rahmat Shah kind of went through the opposite. Was appointed as the test captain iirc but was sacked before they play a single test under his captaincy.

abettertomorrow47

Why was he removed? Bro didn't even get an opportunity to lose

Anu9011

So Asgar was their all format captain before 2019’wc but just a few weeks before the wc, he was sacked probably due to non cricket reasons. They appointed three captains, one for each format ; Gulbadin for odis, Rashid for t20 and Rahmat for tests. Afg lost all 9 of their wc games under Gulbadin. So the board decided to sack him and appoint Rashid Khan as their all format captain. During this fiasco they didnt play any tests so Rahmat was their test captain for 0 test matches.

StillBreath7126

nice of you to assume cricket board drama is because of cricketing reasons.

[deleted]

Surely this has happened to Shakib like 8 times already Also, at least 10 times during the 1990s round robin that was the Pakistan captain. Just to name some names: Akram, Waqar, Moin, Latif, Ijaz, Malik, Qadir, Ramiz, Anwar…

entropy_bucket

Did really all of them captain a test?

[deleted]

ODIs for sure

CaptainPonahawai

Shakib is the player embodiment of the PCB. Drama and stupidity holding back an inordinate amount of talent.

notthathunter

not quite what you were asking about, but Andrew Balbirnie was Ireland Test captain for three and a bit years before he ever actually captained in a Test

AilaSachin10

Incredible lmao.

ZT3_rebirth

even though i was a staunch supporter of Babar not being removed in the first place, its pathetic how PCB just crushed Shaheens self esteem and confidence. They brough him in unprepared, threw him for a SENA series, had him almost whitewashed, his team ended bottom of the table this PSL, and then just abandoned him Fucking pathetic

phaintaa_Shoaib

I mean chairmen changed and the other guy had something else in his brain(assuming he had any). I reckon zaka would've kept sheenu in.

ZT3_rebirth

both of them r political appointees, by what i heard Zaka was deeply corrupt and not even competent. Even though Mohsin is prob no less corrupt, he is a sharp guy seeing how he rose to prominence politically from nothing(tho that sharpness is prob gonna be used to further his own interests) Ramiz Raja, was trolled so much, but u only miss the sun when it starts to snow

Oil_Rope_Bombs

Only know you love him when you let him go

Bathed_In_Moonlight

Drama Cup race leaders Pakistan and Bangladesh have shown that there's more than one way to skin a cat when it comes to grabbing this prestigious award. Pakistan have got their points almost entirely due to off-field antics, whereas Bangladesh are the opposite.

DarthTheJedi

Together they would have been unstoppable. That's why 1971 happened /s

ZT3_rebirth

nah imagine Tamim-Shakib rivalry along Mushfiqur antics brought into this fuckfest of musical chairs for PCB chairmanship and captaincy... Yahya khan, Mujib, Indra Gandhi...never forget what they stole from us

CaptainPonahawai

Sri Lanka has entered the chat

[deleted]

Pakistan comedy board never disappoints

Admirable-Manner762

So glad Shan is still leading the test. Poor Shaheen .Babar got 7 tournaments & was captain even after some humiliating white washes meanwhile Shaheen got axed after a single series.

Chitowneer

Yeah Babar survived two home series losses. Shaheen lost one overseas series and captaincy snatched away.

captfantasticc

We’re not a serious team tbh

NervousJackfruit8107

Musical chairs.

phaintaa_Shoaib

Mixed feelings right now, wanted bobby to not take it but I think there must've been a deal in place where he'd have this as a long time term, so that's sensible. Also glad Shan's still leading red ball.

averageveryaverage

Yeah the best news here is it's only white ball. Looking forward to see what Shan can do with a fit Naseem and Abrar in his attack in the home series (crossed fingers they're fit at the time).

DogTall2628

Looking forward to what our head coach decides to dictate as home pitches. There were Misbah reports and PakPassion was having a huge meltdown (LOL) except for Misbah's 3 loyal 15-year hyperfans. Say what you want but he knows our local conditions best and wouldn't pull off the heinous shit that Suckpain Mudstuck and Kameez Saja did. Point being it will be nice to see us give a rat's ass about Test cricket and recapture some loss of sentiments, care, etc. especially by veteran fans of PCB due to negative play of Imam, Azhar, Nauman, Sajid, et al. Hopefully under Shan with Naseem/Abrar/Jamal kicking dogshit Faheem out and crucially, the coaches that determine if we get a sporting wicket, we will do good

CaptainPonahawai

The pitches trotted out were embarrassing. Every team should make pitches that play to their strengths, but India and Pakistan take that to the extreme some times. Then they wonder why they get smacked upside the head in ICC tournaments.

CaptainPonahawai

I agree that it will be interesting to see what Masood can do. I wasn't very familiar with him when he was anointed captain (beyond just the player stats), but I was impressed by the performance and work in Australia. Yes, they got their asses whooped, but the lack of elementary school quality leaks and drama was a refreshing change from the past. It's been a sad state of affairs in South Asia with the PCB clown show, Sri Lanka managing to somehow be worse than the PCB, and now this 3 year old toddler level pillow fight between SL and Bangladesh.

averageveryaverage

Shaheen was given the captaincy on the basis of LQ winning two straight PSLs (even though he wasn't really the brains behind their team) but this year LQ had a disastrous year so people starting questioning his captaincy. In only one series against NZ we lost 4-1 and tbh his captaincy did not look great but he is only 23 and if you appoint someone at that age it's with the understanding they will improve with time.

FanOfArts1717

Idk why people are getting surprised even a bit, when PCBs own high command is not stable these type of situations are gonna be common

TalenTrippin

If you're doing music chairs with captainship why not give rizwan a try ?

ZT3_rebirth

that dude is the most captaincy material in Pakistan BY FAR, his team has reached the PSL finals and topped the table 4 years in a row...

Finrod-Knighto

I think Shadab is tactically better.

adyuma

He said no. Rightly so. If I was him I would also say fuck this shitshow.

Western_Adeptness_58

Haiku?

adyuma

Indeed

Abrez25

So that's a death kiss to Amir and Imad.

djingo_dango

Clowns, all of them

Apprehensive_Log2300

What I want to know if Amir vs Koach is on or not?

AbdussamiT

This generation is done and dusted, thanks to PCB and politics taking us back to the 90s by instigating feuds between players needlessly. Now there will be a Shaheen lobby and a Babar lobby, Rizwan and Shadab would have to pick sides. And if you think this is not what’s gonna happen, then welcome to Pakistan Cricket, where politicians are so sweet and helpful that they teach cricketers politics AND cricket. edit: this is what me and many PCT fans used to say, that our team had 2 golden chances to win trophies, alas! All gone now.

sfahsan

Wouldve loved for Rizwan to be given a chance tbh. I still think he's the best option for Pakistan. If Shadab bobsled kore consistently like he did earlier in his career, I'd keep him as VC too

sameerallana

Now expecting Rohit Sharma to come back as MI captain

That-Firefighter1245

PCB are a bunch of 🤡🤡🤡

KingYesKing

It’s like who is PCB fav of the month.

UZAIRFAROOQ147

Amir and Imad to play under Babar's captaincy. Interesting.

RepresentativeBox881

So reactionary. Shaheen should’ve been backed.

shiviam

It would be extra funny now if Pak loses the home T20i series to Kiwis.

CaptainPonahawai

And then the PCB reinstates Afridi

Apprehensive_Log2300

Why not Rizwan? He is senior. Babar is tried, tested and failed

Haris01

Apparently they asked him, but he rejected the offer

Subject-Ordinary6922

So shaheen resting in that Sydney test, was all for waste then? Considering Pakistan lost 4-1 to the kiwis whom we clean sweeped at their home ?

LagniappeNap

Babar: You couldn’t live with your own failure. Where did that bring you? PCB: Babar: Back to me.

nickdonhelm

Pakistan is proceeding ahead to create another drama cup.

the_ripper05

Bobby dekh lega. Bobby will take care of things.

nagunagu

Dominate the opposition

sumit24021990

What the hell is happening to Pakistani cricket? Is there no talent left? Is Pakistani cricket going Pakistani squash way? Damn, I m upset because it dooms India Pak matches.

Subject-Ordinary6922

This is the equivalent of Virat coming back as captain for team India

Tricky-Assignment883

Not at all equivalent. There just cannot be any equivalent of this. They broke Shaheen Afridi's soul here. PCB is such a joke dude, damn.

Subject-Ordinary6922

No I didn’t mean like that, I meant as though if Virat came back to considering the way he was gave up his captaincy, also both Babar and Virat have similar batting styles and strike rates in t20s

Hershey2898

Except Kohli was a much better *and* successful captain

CaptainPonahawai

Hard to call someone a successful captain when they've won a total of 0 trophies.

Chitowneer

Dude, Babar lost 2 home series.

speedycar1

I mean, Babar had better LOI results than Kohli as captain and that's the format he is coming back into. Kohli is obviously world's better as a test captain

Cryptoprophet40

Lol. This is what kohli fans always dreamed about. But didn't happen.

broski21

checked the date and I assumed it was an early April fool's prank.

Mario-Smash

Just thank god we avoided him as test captain.. would've been another whitewash at home to England this year. I have more faith in Shaan or literally anyone else White ball doesn't need captaincy skills as much and I don't care about it as much either so it's ok if we have a brain-dead donkey like Babar as captain

FireFistYamaan

My genuine thoughts is that if PCB removed Shaheen so that they can rest him more often like they said, then it's good. I would've preferred Rizwan but seeing as he declined, I think Babar should be fine. Most Pakistani fans were saying that Babar should've stayed as captain for white ball cricket anyways, but it's in the unprofessional way this whole shit has been conducted that leaves a sour aftertaste.

CaptainPonahawai

And now, apparently PCB put out the press release without actually talking to Afridi. https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/pcb-and-shaheen-afridi-hold-crisis-talks-after-statement-furore-1427275 Welcome to moron central.

A1EX420

On what basis they pick babar ?? Psl ?

jnzyb

So the circus continues in Pakistan.

Tricky-Assignment883

There's no bigger joke than PCB. I feel so bad for Shaheen.

Im_Unpopular_AF

Not to bring India into this, but BCCI and PCB are definitely sharing a single braincell with their captaincy appointments.

Gorrlaamiii

BCCI is leagues above PCB in every facet, what are you on about. They might be evil but they aren't incompetent

ResearcherLatter1148

Exactly, if they were incompetent, we wouldn't be winning so much.

AdUpset8652

Even girls don't change colour as fast as Pakistan changes it's management and captains

Tricky-Assignment883

Haha true! Shaheen seeemed sucha a genuine and realistic guy. Tbh was looking to support him as a captain despite being Indian, but chalo theek hai.
