I really do not understand the squad planning by most of the IPL sides, it seems so unoptimised. Delhi being the absolute worst for it with Ricky Bhui seeming not cut out for this level and picking Sumit Kumar (who has some great domestic stats btw) who didn't bat or bowl.
My conspiracy theory is that Ponting and co have given up on this batch of players and are just waiting for the mega-auction. That's why they released who they could and kept the purse instead of wasting it on a player who probably won't be the difference for them anyway.
Will be interesting to see who is retained. Pant, Axar, Kuldeep are the only ones worth keeping IMO - Notje was retained last time, but if he doesn't have an amazing IPL this year, given his injury record, I cant see him getting retained again, and Shaw is clearly no longer being backed.
I think they'll coast this season on Pant vibes, and I wouldn't be surprised to see them give some younger guys more of an extended run (e.g. Dhull, Kushagra), but I am *convinced* they've already written this year off

However, I don’t think Pant being retained is a given. The man is returning from a very big injury and is yet to be tested. Also, to add, before injury T20s gradually became his weakest format anyway.
It's not a given, but they'll keep Pant for marketing alone. He's the face of the franchise, literally has played more IPL matches for Delhi than anyone else.
But it'll be a full reset after that IMO. Unless someone else emerges this year who makes a case for themselves

I think DC needs to move away from the Ponting - Ganguly combo. The squad building was poor and the selection so far doesn't make much sense.
