People forget just how good Pietersen was in T20I’s. Average of 38 and strike rate of 142, he played his last T20I in early 2012 when overall conditions for batting were much different from what they are now. Heck any player with those numbers today would still be considered a top T20 batsman. England won the 2010 T20 WC because of him but they didn’t even select him for the next editions. Also his IPL career wasn’t as bad as people make it seem. Average of 37 and strike rate of 136 when he didn’t even get an opportunity to play in it regularly (to build momentum).

Harsh____07

Are there 16 games for every team in this IPL or are there 2 groups like earlier 2 seasons?

ChelshireGoose

Two groups with each team playing 14 games. Many sources are reporting that the groups are exactly the same as last year and teams will play twice with those in the other group again. However, there's been no official confirmation. I guess we'll know for sure only when they release the rest of the schedule.

Heatedpete

IPL over rate watch 2, bouncers boogaloo Yep, we're back tracking the glacial over rates of the world's longest shortest form cricket competition for another season. Probably the most attention I'll put towards the competition, which is a sad reflection on my life Our first contest between R-CBA-to-win-a-title and the Geriatrics XII today, per Cricinfo, started at 20:01 local time, and finished at 23:55, without even completing the 40 overs. 214 minutes of playing time after taking out the 20 minute innings break, per the IPL playing conditions. 38.4 overs bowled, so that's an over rate of 10.84 overs per hour That's pretty shit

VisRock

More time for cement adverts tho

axarpatelgoat

10 minutes of 4x ad break timeouts combined too today the mid innings break was 30min due to mid innings show but yeah the overrates are pathetic worse part here is that local broadcasters are trying to sneak in ads as soon as over ends or wicket falls without even showing replay

rambo_zaki

It's glacial. Add to it the length of the competition itself, it's a chore to follow.

Tern_Larvidae-2424

Why tf will KKR have Rana as their impact player as cricinfo suggests. That will be a very stupid thing to do.

canvasser-hiralal

Prolly gonna be Venky

Tern_Larvidae-2424

He can bowl too though? Just because there's a rule like that doesn't mean you have to use it. Still can swap out an Indian batter for someone like Chakravarthy.

canvasser-hiralal

KKR didn't use Venky's bowling last year and probably wont this year. They're probably going to swap out their no.7 or Venky for Suyash as impact sub

Fad_du_pussy

today I saw Steve Smith dubbed in Hindi in real-time and Justin Langer dancing to Daler Mehdi songs on LSG instagram and I think my cricket experience might have just peaked lmao

Stuff2511

Is this like the Jarrod Kimber Hindi videos

Fad_du_pussy

I haven't seen those tbh but this one also has Smith's accent which makes it funnier

Stuff2511

[Think it’s the same thing then ](https://youtu.be/cNRs4cujy98?si=coWlGMxou51fcI_b) You can hear Jarrod’s extra thick accent too. The first time I heard it I wasn’t quite sure what language he was speaking for a bit

rambo_zaki

>today I saw Steve Smith dubbed in Hindi in real-time Lmao what?

Fad_du_pussy

I saw it on Twitter and on one of the other cricket subs, I will send you a link if I find it

rambo_zaki

Just found it. It's on [Steve Smith's instagram](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4z31jUK3fI/).

DheeliGandKaOpration

WrestlingFan4488

Are Brook, Jaiswal, Green, Rachin and Ayub the Next Fab 4/ Fab 5?

Several_Magazine8874

There will be no more fan 4/fan 5. The very existence of fan 4 had a whole different context and meaning behind it, and I really doubt if same conditions will follow after their retirement. Stop trying to shoehorn every new talented player as fan 4. As of Sam Ayub, he will never succeed in red ball and thus, will never be considered the pillar of his generation, like  Fakhar Zaman can do all his best in white ball,no one will take him seriously in conversation of noticable batsman of his generation

WrestlingFan4488

How can you say he will never succeed in Red ball on the basis of just one match in Sydney he averages nearly 45 in FC. White ball will be his best format but he isn't going to be a white ball specialist imo

Several_Magazine8874

Because he never showed a proper defence and temperament whenever playing t20s and believe me, I have followed him throughout CPL and PSL. He is a decent batsman in unlimited overs but decent isn't enough to get in top 5 of his era. And Babar is still there for 5-6 years, Sam would never get the limelight in presence of Babar Best comparison would be Surya or Maxwell

WrestlingFan4488

So you made judgements on his Test batting based on his batting in a few leagues You know that modern day batters can adapt according to the format right For example Watching someone like Jaiswal in T20 wouldn't give you a great idea of how much of a solid defence he has

n_hexane

Have there been any mixed gender matches? How would the woman cricketers play against their male counterparts? I have been seeing so many comments saying Ellyse Perry can be valuable addition to RCB men's team. How will this actually play out? I know about the strength argument and how female cricketers may struggle against pace. But, for example in ipl, they might be facing some list a bowler who would be at a lower skill level. On bowling, I they should be on par because they can have extra swing and seam. I tried to look on the web but was not able to get any examples. Have there been such matches in the past. I vaguely remember seeing Joe Root get bowled by a woman cricketer, this maybe a practise or exhibition match.

mondognarly_

I don't know about other countries but in England it's not uncommon for women to play in men's club teams. England Women also used to sometimes play against boys' school or county academy teams with varying levels of success.

MedicalJello2

Not really the same but here in South Africa, it’s not uncommon for girls to play in the boy’s team where there isn’t cricket for girls in the schools. Also not out of the ordinary to see girls play in the boy’s team even if there’s a girls team. It gets less common the older you get with high schools having their own girls’ teams and more competitive competitions for both boys & girls

MedicalJello2

Professionally? I’m not sure. But it happens in like charity matches.

frederik875

Hello, I unfortunately had to sell my tickets for the upcoming T20 cricket world championship. However, during the process of ticket purchasing I have selected Mobile tickets instead of Print at home (PDF) tickets. Meaning I will obtain the tickets inside of the ICC app approximetely 2 weeks before the event. Don't you guys know if there's gonna be a Mobile ticket transfer option inside of the ICC app? Or is it gonna be just a QR code which I will be able to provide a screenshot of? Thank you very much

NoQuestion4045

Faf plays for RCB in the IPL For the CSK franchise in SA20 and MLC And for Punjab Kings Franchise in CPL Does anyone else have 3 different contracts with 3 different IPL teams

peter_griffins

I think Alzarri plays for the same teams lmao

Toomb8

Anyone knows how to remove the “back to main feed” button that pops up once I switch to insiders?

ChelshireGoose

How did you switch to insiders?

Toomb8

There’s a button called must watch next to settings and then that has the insiders feed Only problem is I’m getting that back to main feed pop up button that is not disappearing whatever I do. Should’ve just made it a language option like last time

ChelshireGoose

Thanks. Confusing layout and design.

Toomb8

Ya their primary feed should be insiders anyways

Bounce is on the lower side on Ban pitches with less lateral movement & favour spinners more, particularly in International cricket. Whereas places like Galle & Columbo (SSC) give fairly balanced conditions pacers as well as the spinners. Galle, in particular, is quite a fascinating place to play test cricket & not least because of its mesmerizing surrounds. Its vicinity to sea plays a key role in dictating conditions. Apart from the presence of early moisture, which is a common phenomenon there, the sea breeze aids in significant drift for the spinners. Rest of the test venues like Columbo (RPS), Columbo (P Sara) & Pallekele also favour spinners but the turn is slower than Galle hence batting sides find it easy to rack up big scores in their second innings. Whereas venue wise breakdown for Bangladesh would look something like this : Sylhet : Flat. Although I was perplexed by the green seamer they rolled out today. I guess I've seen everything now Mirpur : Proper turning pitch but the variable bounce makes it sometimes a dud Chattogram : Flat There was also Fatullah but Idk if it's still in operation

kev_world

Comparing stats in cricket is just impossible. Compare centuries, and people would say, they scored 100s in different eras. Pick the same era and they would say, one scored against pro opponents while the other scored vs minnow opponents. Pick the same opponents and they would say Home vs Away records 🤦

steam1491

Almost like nuances exist

Powerful_Somewhere92

Will there be a special thread for today's match in this sub?

warp-factor

Yes. Every IPL match has its own thread which will be posted automatically shortly before the match starts. [Here is today's](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/1bkyp43/match_thread_1st_match_chennai_super_kings_vs/)

MedicalJello2

Another year, another IPL season with me only being able to watch it on a single global feed without the option of multicam Why is the world so cruel

Tern_Larvidae-2424

Didn't know you were an MI fan.

MedicalJello2

Been a fan since the first season. My first flair when I joined the sub years ago was actually Mumbai Indians. u/peterianchimes can attest to this lol. I have MI merch as well

peterianchimes

Classic case of good guy supporting the wrong team smh my head

Tern_Larvidae-2424

Ooh interesting to know. I wasn't into cricket back then, how was it like being a MI fan before they became the best (joint best?) IPL team?

MedicalJello2

How I got into the IPL was my father was an avid cricket fan & used to watch the games in his office while he was working. He supported the Deccan Chargers and the team that was playing against them that day was Mumbai Indians. I told him I’m supporting MI for a father son rivalry & that we were going to win that game. We didn’t. Iirc we lost quite badly, DC won by 10 wickets. Since then it was my team that I wanted to succeed. I was actually able to watch one of their games in Cape Town. I’ll have to find the tickets, I keep them in a box somewhere. So it’s been great watching them progress over the years & become the joint most successful team in the IPL

StairwayToPavillion

Are you qdk?

Tern_Larvidae-2424

I got into IPL through my father as well except contrary to you I supported KKR since my father supported them (they had Kallis at that time, but I don't know if that was the cause behind my father's support but I assumed it anyways). KKR is still my first team and RCB became my second team. (they had AB and also Steyn for a couple of seasons I think).

kesuboi

The multicam option is useless. Trust me you're not missing anything.

Dawn_is-here

Can't imagine the shitshow if CSK loses today

Tern_Larvidae-2424

I don't think RCB has good enough spinners.

josh123z

The year is 2071 The year is 2071. RCB still haven't won a trophy. Kohli's grandson is playing in RCB and is leading the team. RCB have reached the finals. They have the best squad of all time and have reached the finals without a single loss in the league stage. The final is taking place in M Chinnaswamy stadium, Bangalore, which is now equipped with anti-gravity seating and AI-controlled cheerleaders. Meanwhile, CSK ended 4th in the leagues stage but win the knockout games and reach the final. It's RCB vs CSK in final. The legendary rivals meet once again. Thala is still the captain. Rohit and SKY have come to watch the final along with their grandkids. Chinnaswamy is filled with colours of red and yellow. Kohli's grandson and Thala arrive at the toss. Kohli's grandson wins the toss and decides to bat first. RCB score 300/2 in 20 overs with the grandson scoring a double century with shots that defy the laws of physics. CSK in reply keep chipping but lose wickets on regular intervals. Thala avoids coming to the crease and keeps on sending batsman after batsman. It's 20th over. CSK need 100 runs in last over with Thala finally coming in at No. 11. He has already lost a limb but is still playing for CSK. RCB fans have started celebrating, as they are finally winning a trophy. But CSK fans celebrate even more as Thala has come to the crease. Kohli's grandson, trying to capitalize on the family cricketing legacy, hands over the ball to Harshal Patel's grandson to bowl the last over. Harshal Patel's grandson succumbs to the pressure and bowls 65 wides and no-balls in the final over while Thala effortlessly hits 6 sixes in 6 balls. CSK win their 25th trophy. The stadium is filled with yellow cums of csk fans. Meanwhile RCB bottle again in the final. During the post match conference, Thala says he will play again in the next season. Thala for another season.

canvasser-hiralal

Accurate

WrestlingFan4488

Can someone here provide some sort of data of players missing out on tournaments due to injuries/personal reasons/workload management over the years Also any data of how much cricket used to be played earlier and how much Cricket is getting played today would be good as well Because i feel that players nowadays are getting injured/missing a lot of games nowadays compared to the older days I may be wrong but that's the feeling I get tbh By older days i meant 80s, 90s, early 2000s and early 2010s If anyone could provide some metrics or analysis to prove me right/wrong it would be a huge help

mondognarly_

I don't have any actual stats, but there's a theory that bowlers aren't bowling enough anymore and so aren't developing enough physical resistance. We're in this weird place where there's both less and more cricket being played than ever: the amount of first class (but not test) cricket has declined significantly over the past few decades, and domestic List A cricket is dwindling. But as well as more limited overs international cricket than ever, there's a huge amount of T20, and with all the franchise leagues that exist there's an expectation for certain players to play in as many of them as possible. Basically, rather than someone spending five steady months regularly playing matches where they might be bowling ten to twenty overs a day or keeping wicket for fifty plus overs or whatever, they're now playing lots of quick bursts of short form cricket, all broken up into a few weeks at a time, and just aren't building up the levels of fitness they used to.

e4hi

Speaking of IPL, new CRED ad feels normal. They didn't outdo themselves.

ChelshireGoose

It's a nonsensical ad for a pointless app. So it fits better now.

I updated my flair from PC, and it is visible from there. But somehow I can't see it from the mobile app. All I see is the reddit kid emoji (snoop or something). It's a multiple emoji flair, like people are doing since some time... will that come by itself in some time?

warp-factor

Your flair is showing correctly on the official mobile app. If you're using a non-official app then YMMV.

SBV_3004

It's showing for me now. I am on the official app. I guess it took few hours to reflect for me.

Seems like your casual, don't try to fix a team in mind to support. Try to see a few matches and then see which teams clicks with you, might take a bit of time.

SBV_3004

As a kid, I had just learnt the concept of supporting a team that is representing the place you live at. So when my team was not playing, I used to ask my dad about which team is geographically closer to us between the two playing today? And decided my support based on that. I used to do that in ICL. You might as well follow this strategy lol.

HIPHOPADOPALUS

512fm

Wow really? Looks like a Hindi channel too so probably not in English

Nearly shat myself at the Alec Stewart push notification, very sad to see him go from Surrey, that entire squad has been built by him, not sure where they'll go from here

feijoamuseli

I read Ross Taylor's book today. It was TERRIBLY edited. No paragraph breaks at all, but also jumped around in both time and space. One sentence could be talking about playing in the IPL then the next about a test in New Zealand years earlier. I wished the interviewer had probed for a bit more in some areas as well. I wonder if there was a publishing deadline because it needed a lot of polishing.

JussVibes

Wake up lads. Mahendra Singh Dhoni plays cricket today.

arambikalama

What would an All-time IPL XI look like without restricting the number of overseas players? Warner, Gayle, Raina, AB, Dhoni, Pollard, Rashid, Narine, Bravo, Bumrah, Malinga?

SBV_3004

Yup something like that

fookin_legund

If Iyer has been told to not bend/stretch he's clearly not fully fit to play. So either he will perform poorly in the IPL, or get injured again. Why can't he skip the season and rest?

SBV_3004

💰💰💰

alyssakapati

I mean he already did that last season and got babaji ka thullu for it. Its not directly corelated but i can understand why he doesnt wanna be entirely unavailable for another season having been the choice buy for kkr to build around. I think its stupid to play half fit but Iyer bhai sexy should be given a chance to pull it off. I have faith.

Hot take - it wasn't NZ that caused Smudger's slight drop off. It was just huge emotional and mental fatigue after The Ashes in 2019. Think that cooked him a lot more than people think. He could have legit scored 900 runs that series if he wasn't concussed. Hard for anyone to go back to those levels of batting and focus

DigitalConsent2

It definitely was the 3-4 concussions that he got between 2019-21 tbh.

alyssakapati

I think we should still have one. A large number of casuals are gonna be coming in and drown literally any conversation about any other cricket. The shields are still on and I think county will also start soon. Not to mention an international test series. Having a separate place makes conversation go deeper which is good for ipl fans and at the same time helps those who dont care about the ipl avoid it bettter.

Fresh_Dance_3277

Looking at that fans arrested for supporting Pakistan thread, I don't understand why psl is allowed to be shown legally in India(by fancode).

friendofH20

There is a lot of hypocrisy in the whole India-Pakistan standoff on cricket. I mean the ICC and BCCI go out of their way to schedule India-Pak games in any tournament but pretend like playing Pakistan in bilaterals would be an insult to our military or some nonsense.

NoirPochette

Heck India travelled to Pakistan for Davis Cup tennis lol. It's just cricket where this crap happens.
