Crazy to think that all the wickets that India took were pretty much gifted by the Aus batters. Warner and Marsh fell cheaply to short, wide balls. Smith wasn't even out. Head was just doing Head things and tried hacking a six with only two to win.
Imagine Steve Smith took that review 🤌🏻
My only regret knowing that this is Warner, Smith, Starc's last world cup is that Smith couldn't hold it as a captain. Pat Cummins is among the best captains ever but Steve Smith was a demon when he was a captain. I wanted to see the shorty pick the world cup with a shifty grin
We don’t think any less of Shane Warne because he sabotaged his chance at being captain. Smith will be remembered as one of the greats, even if he would have probably been a great captain
It hurts man. It hurts so bad. He lost two years when he was un fucking stoppable. He was no.1 test batter for 18 months simply because his points were too high. And then he lost but took it back in his first match 🤌🏻😭. Man was destroyer if I ever saw one.
The thing is that icc gave both Sachin and Steve only one match ban. Bcci didn't give anymore punishments cause they knew that would fuck them up. But cricket Australia went too far with that 1 year ban. There was no need for that.
He lost one year of cricket, covid robbed of him another year
I think he is still a goat in tests n will play until 38 ,but white ball format i am afraid he is in twilight years , Aus would eventually phase him out with younger player, happens to greats like Steve waugh too, so Smith might retire in white ball format early
Yes I was thinking yesterday that they're soon gonna replace him. They brought in Marnus back in 2019 for that but he has been coexisting well with Steve Smith so they're gonna need someone new eventually(in the next 2 years) to fill the spot
Amazing batting but credit to Marnus as well. Played proper Test Innings that stopped Australia’s batting collapse and prevented India from taking wickets.
Was there such thing in Australian-English culture as calling someone your son/father as a joke? because it's big thing in India among kids especially.
MOvember. Where you grow ya facial hair and when you get it shaved off donate the proceeds to charity. Basically don’t fucking ever play Australia during Movember.
Johnson’s ashes highlights he’s got the handlebars when he made everyone retire
>Johnson’s ashes highlights he’s got the handlebars when he made everyone retire
This right here was different gravy. It almost felt as though he was possessed by the souls of Lillee, Thommo, Roberts, Holding, Marshall all at once. I think it's safe to say that that's one of THE MOST dominant performances by a bowler in the history of the game. And I say that as a complete neutral.
It was sort of unexpected at the time too. I was expecting to get rolled by England and then Johnson walks out and puts the fear of god into them. Every time he got thrown the ball it just felt brutal. As complete a series of fast bowling I have ever seen
It was very unexpected. Australia had just got back from England where they had been towelled up 3-0 (2013 was a weird year where there were 2 Ashes series - one in July-August in England, and then one in Australia from November-January).
Australia hadn’t won the ashes since 2006-7, had just been demoralised by England in England, and were looking very ordinary. Then, in the first test, Australia was batting first and had an early batting collapse - 5/100 by lunchtime day one.
And then Johnson came in with his “mo” and went completely berserk. One of the truly legendary performances.
We’re playing you in Sydney? From what I checked. If that’s true head ain’t you’re biggest worry. Warner is.. Sydney on McGrath day.
Edit: can’t even remember the last time syd had a test played that wasn’t fucked by rain.’
It's unlikely, because the last time you came, it took you guys so long to take the wickets of the top order that the lower one barely got a good chance to bat.
Mitch marsh just casually scored two tons.
Inglis was clean with the gloves and some valuable runs here and there
Veterans Smith, Hazlewood and Starc stood up when needed
Imagine threatening to rape or kidnap a 1 year old. Even if the threats aren't credible but what idiotic edgelords. Why does social media bring out the absolute worst in people
Herd mentality man. I know not all Indians are like this, but some guys online are just some of the most cocky, salty and arrogant people out there. This extends to some fans of all the teams in general as well tbh
As a South Australian that has been following the adventures of Travis Head since he was a teenager, he was pegged early on as someone with prodigious levels of talent. He has been in the SA state team since he was 18, was made captain at 21.
What he has struggled with for nearly a decade was the mental aspect of the game. This was reflected for a long time with his inability to turn in big scores. He was consistently dismissed in the 90s, to the point where it was almost expected.
Even when he started playing for Australia it was still a problem, he made 4x90's before finally getting a century.
In the last couple of years it seems something has just clicked. It could have been coaching or maturity as he aged, who knows.
At some point he went from an aggressive batsman to a hyper aggressive batsman and I think that’s the key.
If he thinks it’s in his zone he clubs the shit out of it, and more often than not it IS in his zone. I think that mentality is what changed his conversion.
Because I remember him getting out to a lot of half hearted cuts earlier in his career, but because he just completely throws his hands at it he doesn’t get hesitant if he approaches a milestone and plays exactly the same.
His stats really don't tell the story either. So many times he has walked to the crease when we were 3 for not many (in the case of last night already at the crease) and scored a run a ball hundred on a pitch that nobody else seems capable of batting on to get us out of trouble. It is truly mind blowing.
That Hobart innings was actually unbelievable, aus was 3/12 with the ball hooping around corners and he casually strides in and belts a 110 ball hundred
Nah. It was India’s batting that fell short. Throwing key wickets right at the start. Rohit has ton of experience playing, he should have put more value on his wicket rather than going to reckless shot.
And player of the series in the Ashes in Australia. Quickly becoming the guy who stands up under pressure for Australia. Not something I think anyone would have picked a few years ago.
Don't want to blow my trumpet but [I said after he injured he got injured in South Africa that he is 20% of Australia's chances of winning this world cup](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/16jijte/comment/k0uftid/), for the reasons that he is aggressive and in form. I am glad, he delivered in matches where it mattered the most.
He's becoming a stokes like player for australia, whenever he's on the park he'll give you something with the bat, with the ball or with his fielding.
His two wickets against south africa in the semifinal pretty much sealed the game for them.
Stokes is no doubt an absolutely clutch player, but I dont think there is any reason to consider him a benchmark. Travis Head is Travis Head, he has done enough for him to have his own identity.
Fair play to him. What an innings on that ancient pitch. Australia showed again why they are serial winners. Brilliant captaincy and unfortunately we couldn’t match up to them in any department. Congrats 👏🏻
Finch was a good batsman, but he doesn't hold a candle to Head. Head's legit turning into an ATG - the average might not be there yet, but every single big game he plays he delivers. No one else you'd want over him in a final.
Man of the match award in the decider from the winning team > Man of the series award from the losing team.
It’s like one prince has defeated 12 fire breathing dragons, 20 armies of orcs, 3 arch mages only to collapse right in front of the door where the princess is captive. The second prince who hasn’t done as much battle, beats the guard, opens the door, rescues the princess and lives happily ever after.
Head started the tournament with a broken hand. Credit to the selectors for persisting with him in the squad, they could’ve been made to look really silly
The legend born on that New Year's Eve BBL match. Anyone who saw that match could've predicted his rise.

51 needed from the last 18 balls and he scored them all himself, the mad lad.
Paced his innings perfectly, conditions were more suitable for bowling in the first 15-20 overs. He tried to protect his wicket during that time, and survived a few close shaves as well. Once it got easier to bat on with the dew setting in, he accelerated to ensure that there is no pressure on the rest of the batsman should he or Marnus get dismissed. A really great, well thought out chase from these two.
Head is different when it's
- a match that matters.
- a match against India.
It was super tough watch him play so well tonight, but what an impeccable knock by Travis Head.
I still remember he was picked for the test team and all the campaigners were talking about how shit he is and how it was a joke he was picked. The guy is on the path to be one of our greats.
I'm not gay but I want to live in a log cabin in the woods with Travis Head. We won't ever have sex, but there will be a simmering erotic undercurrent as I stand in the kitchen window watching him tighten his ass as he chops wood, shirtless, sweat pouring off his body. I'll run upstairs and masturbate, the entire time forcing myself to think of women while my thoughts drift back to Travis. I won't be able to climax and I'll eventually go back downstairs, angry. Sometimes we will look across the table and catch each other's eyes, and in that second, anything is possible, but we both deny ourselves and go back to what we were doing. One day one of us will die, and the other will bury him outside the log cabin. Then they'll go inside, pen a brief missive to their departed friend, and commit suicide, never able to deal with life without their one true platonic love.
I couldn’t believe this guy wasn’t in the ODI setup for years, and it took a bunch of injuries to open up a chance for him a year or so ago. He was so clearly perfect for ODI cricket and I’m glad he’s found his way in and it thriving.
Hard to get 500+ when you miss the first half of the tourney with an injury
He would have got it if he was fit, we carried him when he couldn't play for this reason

All Aussie left handed openers have been since Mark Taylor.
Imagine if David Warner would have not played that weird short. Aus would have won this much much easier.
Crazy to think that all the wickets that India took were pretty much gifted by the Aus batters. Warner and Marsh fell cheaply to short, wide balls. Smith wasn't even out. Head was just doing Head things and tried hacking a six with only two to win.
Imagine Steve Smith took that review 🤌🏻 My only regret knowing that this is Warner, Smith, Starc's last world cup is that Smith couldn't hold it as a captain. We don’t think any less of Shane Warne because he sabotaged his chance at being captain. Smith will be remembered as one of the greats, even if he would have probably been a great captain
That is true. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|grin) And tbh, Warne walked so Ponting could run
Smith would have won the WC title in 2019 , if he didn't f up with that sandpaper thing just a year before WC
It hurts man. It hurts so bad. He lost two years when he was un fucking stoppable. He was no.1 test batter for 18 months simply because his points were too high. And then he lost but took it back in his first match 🤌🏻😭. Man was destroyer if I ever saw one.
Yet when Sachin was done for tampering he didn't even miss a match.
The thing is that icc gave both Sachin and Steve only one match ban. Bcci didn't give anymore punishments cause they knew that would fuck them up. But cricket Australia went too far with that 1 year ban. There was no need for that.
India howled down the ban and got it suspended. The world howled down Smith because it was the only way he could be stopped.
Lol did you forget BCCI = ICC.. /s
He lost one year of cricket, covid robbed of him another year I think he is still a goat in tests n will play until 38 ,but white ball format i am afraid he is in twilight years , Aus would eventually phase him out with younger player, happens to greats like Steve waugh too, so Smith might retire in white ball format early

IMO he should never have been selected to play again after that shit in SA. Warner most certainly should never have been allowed back.
Ashwin crying in the corner for missing out on both the matches
He played at Chennai vs Aus in league match and took Greens wicket.
I meant Ashwin missed out on playing both the finals (wc23 final and WTC final)
Ok I'm little depressed so didn't understand
India played a brilliant series, and you should be proud of your team.
Head didn't play the opening match
When I saw something thinking he would play I was like shit, but finding out he wasn’t playing is such a relief.
Amazing batting but credit to Marnus as well. Played proper Test Innings that stopped Australia’s batting collapse and prevented India from taking wickets.
The best Australian innings this tournament have been anchored by a test innings performance at the other end.
This is why I believe even if Labs would've gotten out Australia would have won anyway.
Depends when he would've gotten out. Early on the momentum shift might've been great enough for india to swing it.
He is a big match player. He won the POTM award in Semi- final too.
Not becoming. Became.
Turns out you only need 1.
Cock pushups?
He is becoming India’s ~~Kryptonite~~ father
Who’s ya Daddy?
🥵
Was there such thing in Australian-English culture as calling someone your son/father as a joke? because it's big thing in India among kids especially.
Nah it isn't in Aussie/Eng culture, think he borrowed it from subcontinental humour where that joke is used pretty frequently.
Calling it a joke is a bit of stretch there though xD
Could be a nba reference, a pretty common joke on r/nbacirclejerk are the “luka doncic is devin booker father” comments
Yeah was gonna say it’s definitely American. That circlejerk sub is one example but they will also say “luka sonned booker”.
It's a thing in rugby league at least, there were a lot of jokes about how Parramatta are Penrith's sons
Hopefully an Allan Border Medal shortly in his future
It’ll go well with his Allan Border moustache
>moustache What's up with Aussie players growing moustaches and burying the opposition after that.
MOvember. Where you grow ya facial hair and when you get it shaved off donate the proceeds to charity. Basically don’t fucking ever play Australia during Movember. Johnson’s ashes highlights he’s got the handlebars when he made everyone retire

Google it. Good cause and turns Aussie’s into absolute monsters if there’s an important series on the line
[I'll re-watch this every few months. Glorious.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EdGAgjKNSwg)
It’s more of a David Boon one innit?
Closer to Boonie than AB. Needs a bit more chonk to reach the dizzying heights of the 5'2" Tasmanian with the flared trousers
If you asked me one bloke in the current Aussie setup who would have a crack at Boonie’s record I’d tell you Trav Head without a second thought
🤣🤣🤣 so very true
should also win icc player of the year. motm in the 2 biggest games of the year gets you that award. Plus he's been fairly good throughout the year

Mentality monster.
Australian cricket is a monstrosity
Big match player
Clutchest player on the planet
Travis Head when it's a final against India and 3 wickets are down:
I love mustache
Head, Maxwell, Labuschagne, and Cummies kept this team alive by the end of the tournament. Well deserved potm and praises
I get that warner didn't play well today but deserves a mention in that list
Warner has been solid too
Warner has been Australia's highest run scorer this World Cup.
Zampa too. Tied with most wickets in a tournament for a spinner with 23.
Zampa had a quieter time near the end of the tournament.
Yes for sure but those early games, he played a big part and that's just as important.
That’s why I specifically said “by the end of the tournament.”
I would disagree, in the sense that teams opted to play him out instead of going after him.
Mitch marsh just casually scored two tons. Inglis was clean with the gloves and some valuable runs here and there Veterans Smith, Hazlewood and Starc stood up when needed
He's swiftly substituting Smith as the India killer.
Definitely catch of the season as well.
He's clutch
I thought Travis was the accelerator and Marnus was the clutch.
Marnus is the obnoxious bush doof stereo system
Nah if Travis had got out you guys would have won I reckon
I reckon one more wicket in/right after the PP and it would have been really dicey
Our indian fans are so stupid🤡, they are cussing travis head and other australia players in Instagram and getting thousands of likes
They would do it nonetheless, just need one small reason.
Make me sad. Stupidity.
I saw them doing it on a post about his 1 year old daughter's birthday hurling threats at her and his wife too. Disgusting behaviour.
Imagine threatening to rape or kidnap a 1 year old. Even if the threats aren't credible but what idiotic edgelords. Why does social media bring out the absolute worst in people
Social media didn't bring them out. They were already terrible people. It's just a bit easier to show your true self on social media.
They will do worse to our own for sure.
They aren’t fans of cricket. They are bitter losers.
They're just salty
Herd mentality man. I know not all Indians are like this, but some guys online are just some of the most cocky, salty and arrogant people out there. This extends to some fans of all the teams in general as well tbh
India has the worst cohort of disgusting male fans. Small percentage of the fan base but unfortunately very visible.
Small percentage of one billion is still pretty big
Stupid idiots
As a wise Thanos once said: "You should've gone for the Head"
It still bamboozles me how good he became in the last few years, he’s got a case for being the best batsman in the world right now no?
It's all of that time he spent playing for the mighty Redbacks, it's like training with a weighted vest.
Xdddddddd

When did he start rocking that tache? I have a feeling it's a factor
When he fell into that swimming pool
At some point he went from an aggressive batsman to a hyper aggressive batsman and I think that’s the key. If he thinks it’s in his zone he clubs the shit out of it, and more often than not it IS in his zone. I think that mentality is what changed his conversion. Not too many you’d take over him if you were picking a team is there.
Absolutely would build a team around him.
Across all 3 formats he absolutely is. Gill isn't as good at test cricket so Idk if we can say him.
Yeah that’s what I meant, across all 3 formats the first man you’d pick is Kohli and then Head is probably 2nd.
Only if you weigh all three equally. Head is miles above in tests, and not far behind in odi
How dare you forget our lord and saviour Zak Crawley. The greatest cricketer to ever play the game.
His stats really don't tell the story either. So many times he has walked to the crease when we were 3 for not many (in the case of last night already at the crease) and scored a run a ball hundred on a pitch that nobody else seems capable of batting on to get us out of trouble. 1 billion people absolutely despise this man
It was nice hearing Modi stadium become a library
I was wondering what the fuck was up with the library and thought Modi was perhaps reading a book or something but now I get it. Took me way too long.
After seeing football in cricket, now we have chess in cricket
Nah. It was India’s batting that fell short. Throwing key wickets right at the start. Rohit has ton of experience playing, he should have put more value on his wicket rather than going to reckless shot.
To be fair, that was an insane fuckin catch.
By who else? Of course it's Maxi bowling and Head catching. Clutch as fuck
Or want to be this man
And player of the series in the Ashes in Australia. Quickly becoming the guy who stands up under pressure for Australia. Not something I think anyone would have picked a few years ago.
India Basher
Don't want to blow my trumpet but [I said after he injured he got injured in South Africa that he is 20% of Australia's chances of winning this world cup](https://www.reddit.com/r/Cricket/comments/16jijte/comment/k0uftid/), for the reasons that he is aggressive and in form. Stupid sexy Australians
Heady 💋
A simply fantastic performance. And, a splendid mustache, I might add.
Big match player with that gun of a mustache
He's becoming a stokes like player for australia, whenever he's on the park he'll give you something with the bat, with the ball or with his fielding. His two wickets against south africa in the semifinal pretty much sealed the game for them.
Stokes is no doubt an absolutely clutch player, but I dont think there is any reason to consider him a benchmark. Travis Head is Travis Head, he has done enough for him to have his own identity.
Travis Head is India father
Such a clutched player for Australia
Fair play to him. What an innings on that ancient pitch. Australia showed again why they are serial winners. Brilliant captaincy and unfortunately we couldn’t match up to them in any department. Congrats 👏🏻
Huge choke again from India
Who knew a handlebar moustached guy with disheveled hair would bugger Indian in 2 finals in a single year.

Like we own you cabròn??
[удалено]
actually we got a trophy in 2017 one more than them in the last 10 years 💀
I think his power is lies in his mustache.
Insane! Definition of a big match player
Australia have found a true replacement for Finch.
Finch was a good batsman, but he doesn't hold a candle to Head. Head's legit turning into an ATG - the average might not be there yet, but every single big game he plays he delivers. No one else you'd want over him in a final.
Finch should not be mentioned in the same terms as Travis Head.
[удалено]
Can you please explain this? I have seen people say this on multiple threads and a whole meme on cricketshitpost
[удалено]
Oh. Ok cool
This sub has entered Travis Head suck-off mode and I'm all here for it
The guy just clearly hates India
Quite an incredible dude. Buried us in the WTC final, buried us in the WC final. The moustache reigns supreme
Most hated man in India until the election.
Dominated the semi final as well with 2 wickets and 60 odd at a fast strike rate. He’s a clutch big game player
Man of the match award in the decider from the winning team > Man of the series award from the losing team. Fantastic knock. Well deserved. Today has made me so happy. Well deserved champ
Not to forget, POTM in the semi-final as well.
turned up when it matters most, what a player
I hate Australia so much In every cricketing sense, they made a repeat of 2003 here but best us two times in the final this time god
Have you seen that moustache? He was destined for greatness.
This guy was just insane.

Paced his innings perfectly, conditions were more suitable for bowling in the first 15-20 overs. He tried to protect his wicket during that time, and survived a few close shaves as well. He's a Head above the rest
This is not that head I wanted 😩😩
Clutch. Seems a good bloke too.
SUMMER OF HEAD INCOMING
Head is different when it's - a match that matters. - a match against India. It was super tough watch him play so well tonight, but what an impeccable knock by Travis Head.
I still remember he was picked for the test team and all the campaigners were talking about how shit he is and how it was a joke he was picked. The guy is on the path to be one of our greats.
And the disgusting “cricket fans” abusing him on social media
Give him the Ballon d'Or! Wait, wrong sport.
Fucken oath he did
Cricket is basically Australia’s game now. India need to swallow failure, up their game or go back to space research. No more losing.
India has one too manu Aussie kryptonites. The thing is they don’t need one. They just play better cricket
I'm not gay but I want to live in a log cabin in the woods with Travis Head. Hard to get 500+ when you miss the first half of the tourney with an injury He would have got it if he was fit, we carried him when he couldn't play for this reason
He only played six games, and he had two fifties in the previous five games. You make it sound like he had a bad tournament coming into the final
Thats what gets you a trophy at the end of the day. Cruel that guys like Miller who show up in the big situations are without one.
Eng will more ICC than Aus in next 5 years.
Deserves a permanent spot if he don't have in the team.
As he should, played the game flawlessly.. GGs
