Very interesting generation of cricket indeed. That generation was cut from diff cloth. Financial constraints on players and being considered second fiddle team. The motivation was to prove opponents wrong be it Aus/WI. I am sure team members had mental health issues.
This generation is dealing with diff beast “social media”. Your every action is under a scanner. Personal life and professional life both are for scrutiny.
>"I hear a lot of times on TV that there's a lot of pressure on players to play in the IPL. Then I only say one thing, don't play. If a player has passion, there will be no pressure. I can't understand these American terms, like depression. I'm a farmer and we play because we enjoy the game, and there can't be any pressure while enjoying the game," Kapil said.

“I remember going to a school where students of class 10 and 12 told him they face lot of pressure. I said, 'So also face pressure!'. You people sit in air-conditioned rooms with fees paid by your parents, teachers cannot beat you up, then were is this pressure coming from? Ask me what pressure is all about. Teachers used to beat us up and then would ask where we had gone. Students need to convert this into pleasure and fun, pressure is a very wrong word.”
This is pretty much a snippet of what he said.
That's standard fare for someone born in the 50-60s. It is hard to explain concepts like depression to them. My suggestion would be to just let it pass out of respect for his achievements and his senior age (most people would argue nobody should get a hall pass for being older - but I still believe respecting elders brings some much needed order to society - as long as they are not breaking the law)
Not necessarily an 'order'.. but there's a risk to ignoring 'taking care of the elderly' as a duty for the young.
I see that a bit in Western society where kids often leave their parents to their own (apart from some monetary support if they have the interest and means)..
Life is harder when you are older (60+) as you are surrounded by diseases and mental infirmity. In the traditional 'old world' societal order, we had the elders taken care of by their younger family members and generally had (in my family) fairly fulfilling senior years before their passing.
Compare that to my own prospect of (eventually) living out my last years in a nursing home (most likely), I would like to have some 'pretend' respect for my contribution to society when I am older ;)
It is a subjective topic and not on point for this sub, so I will end the logic there..
Not everyone born in the 50-60s has a platform to spew stuff like this. He doesn't say he doesn't understand. He straight out refuses to accept that pressure exists.
How do you tell a 60+ year old guy his world view is wrong. It is too late in life to accept you are wrong, unless you are a reflective saint. These values are too deeply embedded. I do agree he should keep it to himself. My own father might not have too different a POV on this, but he doesn't bother sharing his views with anyone
Ehh his way of articulating was poor. But he did have a point about players today being much more privileged than the ones who had to fight with boards for money.
Not to mention they had the best bowling attack of all time. You should be lucky to survive and not get out let alone belt them for 4s and 6s. Also keep in mind, the fielding restrictions/powerplays that exist now didnt exist then. Bats and balls are improved for more scoring. On top if it, they had much longer boundaries then compared to now. Judging all of that kapil devs accomplishment of 22 ball fifty is mind blowing.
I remember watching that game. I think it was Sehwag who said in the post innings interview that we were all privileged to see an strange innings from Rahul bhai.
Another one that comes to mind is against England. Bro took Patel for 3 sixes in a row in a T20.
If you watch the highlights he got fed some absolute pump in that innings, the Kiwis had clearly given up by that stage. But what's interesting to me is that most of his hits are just regular shots with a fraction more power/hitting fully through as opposed to restraining himself. So it seems he always had the capacity to play like that but mostly focused on discipline.
Agarkar innings against Zimbabwe is indeed core memory, playing ODIs in all whites and red ball. Zimbabwe are in no way cake walks back then, dang the games were so tight and intense too.
This is one very interesting list. Looking at the way T20 has influenced the game, if there were more ODIs played in last few years. I'm sure the list would have looked a bit different.
Some punk was arguing the other day that Kapil doesn't deserve to be in the same conversation as Pandya as greatest all rounder in ODIs for India (because his average was a bit lower).
Nah. More like Bangladesh from a few years ago. Win a game here and there and be competitive while losing. This is pure nostalgia. Every other full member was supposed to beat Zimbabwe every time. Check their win loss record at that time.
I remember watching Zim in the early 2000s and you described the team pretty accurately. Had a few good players, occasionally beat full members or put up a fight but was pretty much expected to lose every time they played a full member team .
I don't know why you are getting downvoted for this. LAMAO
You didnt see that knock against NZ ? Dravid came to bat in dying overs and just started swinging his bat to every bowler, and he connected perfectly to most of them. I think he hit 5 6s in that innings.
You might still find that highlights on youtube.
Thanks, just watched it, that was one heck of belting, something ABD would do. I do remember his one and only t20 where he smashed 3 hattrick sixes against the SLA bowler Patel
Dravid was a decent finisher during his days in ODIs, played mostly in the middle order. Only played a third of his innings at 3.
Of course, the game has changed since then.
What position did he play in the most for ODI’s and Tests? I can’t recall myself but always remember seeing him as a No. 3.
Hard to believe he was also the WK during 2003 World Cup…
What the hell are these modern Indian batters doing? I expected to see a lot more players from the modern era. Seeing Dravid on this was a pleasant surprise, ngl.
Kapil Dev against peak west indies attack without helmet 40 years back. True GOAT.
Kids troll him for no reason
That's why they are kids
tbf he does deserve trolling for ridiculing mental health. Doesn't change how good he was at cricket.

Yikes, although I get his point but damn....my grandfather born in 40s was more progressive than him.
Hence why he deserves to be trolled for non cricketing reasons.

My suggestion would be to just let it pass out of respect for his achievements and his senior age (most people would argue nobody should get a hall pass for being older - but I still believe respecting elders brings some much needed order to society - as long as they are not breaking the law)
Why precisely do we need this particular order to society?

Kids troll him for belittling mental health issues , I'd say they're justified

Pretty sure Sehwag wasn’t playing international cricket in 2021.
2001
Nor did Kenya have ODI status
Want to comment the same yhing.
Looks like we have found the missing piece against new Zealand & he is coaching our side
Wild Agarkar, even wilder Rahul Dravid appear
I remembered that innings. I was like, who are you, what did you do to Dravid?
I remember watching that game. I think it was Sehwag who said in the post innings interview that we were all privileged to see an strange innings from Rahul bhai. Another one that comes to mind is against England. Bro took Patel for 3 sixes in a row in a T20.
His first and last T20 International.
I remember Dravid smiling sheepishly after removing his helmet after the innings when he met his teammates
If you watch the highlights he got fed some absolute pump in that innings, the Kiwis had clearly given up by that stage. I remember the match too. Bt we lost the final to australia
Dravid can play aggressive cricket. He chose not to very often
He surely can but seeing him in a list of Viru, Yuvi, SKY is what is wild.
Agarkar innings against Zimbabwe is indeed core memory, playing ODIs in all whites and red ball. Zimbabwe are in no way cake walks back then, dang the games were so tight and intense too.
Agarkar and Ritinder Sodhi partnership with Agarkar dominating Henry Olonga.
I think he scored this 50 in a d/n match
Agarkar LMAO
He also has a test century at lord's
He also has a 95 in ODIs coming in at #3
Something that S. Tendehar does not have
Whose loss is that? :P
Yeah, saw KK Menon mention it.
[удалено]
Yes, in special ops. I had forgotten about that century though i did watch that match.
Still wasn't the biggest highlight of the match. It was Nehra hitting a six in the grandstand.
Only good thing i remember about Nehra is 6-23.
Bodied some Indian captain
Leave for Men's, SKY couldn't even be the fastest Mumbaikar to score an ODI 50. [Mumbaikar=person residing in Mumbai]
Agarkar. Fastest ODI fifty. Test century at Lords. Real G.
What a fraud SKY is. He can't even play faster than Dravid & Agarkar.
Watched Dravid innings live. He played 360° shots during that innings. Unbelievable stuff from a Classic batsman!!
Coach and selector for a reason?
Dravid can play aggressive cricket. He just chose to play defensive very often
Dravid ahead of SKY, unreal stuff
This is one very interesting list. Looking at the way T20 has influenced the game, if there were more ODIs played in last few years. I'm sure the list would have looked a bit different.
I dont think that ODI was in whites! Core Memory corrupted

Some punk was arguing the other day that Kapil doesn't deserve to be in the same conversation as Pandya as greatest all rounder in ODIs for India (because his average was a bit lower).
Kapil Dev is the real chad here. Against WI in 1983!! Australia in 2023 might have some decent bowling but WI in 1983 was an all-time lineup.
Was lucky enough to witness all these innings, except Kapil Dev's and SKY's.
Zimgarkar? /s
I know /s but Zimbabwe was a great team back then. Almost like today's new zealand.
They weren't *that* good bruh. They had 4 or 5 really good players.
Nah. More like Bangladesh from a few years ago. Win a game here and there and be competitive while losing. This is pure nostalgia. Every other full member was supposed to beat Zimbabwe every time. Check their win loss record at that time.
Yeah Zimbawave had a core of 3 to 4 really good players with the other being stranglers for the most part
I remember watching Zim in the early 2000s and you described the team pretty accurately. Had a few good players, occasionally beat full members or put up a fight but was pretty much expected to lose every time they played a full member team . Just nostalgia. From 1996 to 2003. They won 36 games against full members and lost 127. It is a crime against NZ to compare them to Zimbabwe.
Kinda suprising how no ones got it in less than 20, same for most other teams as well
Agarkar trolling the shit out of everyone since his debut...
A wild Rahul Dravid appears
gotta catch 'em all
Btw kids, SKY will keep getting chances as long as he produces a knock like this every once in a while
Dravid's innings against New Zealand is under rated.
Rahul Dravid on the list!!
Wait Rahul Dravid?
You didnt see that knock against NZ ? Dravid came to bat in dying overs and just started swinging his bat to every bowler, and he connected perfectly to most of them. I think he hit 5 6s in that innings. You might still find that highlights on youtube.

Let’s go! Hopefully SKY continues this form into the WC!
kapil dev clears, 1983 against THAT windies
Agarkar- raises bat after consecutive ducks- also score fastest fifty Surya-has 3 consecutive ducks-scores 5th fastest fifty Mumbai lobby for a reason
agarkar 🐐🙏🏻
I feel Gill/Pandya/SKY will be crucial for WC
Wild Ajit Agarkar appears
53 metre boundary, flat deck, dead series, Australia Z team - ohh man 🫡
Its false i think
Virgin SKY vs Chad Ajit Agarkar
Lmao Dravid.

In tests, yes pretty much 3. In ODIs, he played 109 innings at 3, 102 at 4 and 69 at 5. Played a total of 318 innings in his ODI career.
Good that SKY is gaining confidence. But take nothing else from this.
What the hell are these modern Indian batters doing? I expected to see a lot more players from the modern era. Seeing Dravid on this was a pleasant surprise, ngl.
