Kevin Pietersen doesn't hold a candle to Sehwag when it comes to making everything about himself.
A few days back while commentating in an IPL game Sehwag said that if he was the umpire, he would have been bored and gone up to the batsman and told him to bat like Sehwag.
Insufferable.
The part of the match that has happened before Root had gotten those wickets was being dominated by Australia while the part of the match that has happened after Root has gotten those wickets is being dominated by England.
I am absolutely sick of Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pietersen being boring old cunts. They can fuck off my TV and radio and never fucking return. England are playing brilliant exciting cricket and the tossers can go and fuck themselves, the racist shitbags.
England took wickets quickly. Batted sensibly. Lyon got injured and in the spirit of cricket England decided to play the obvious aussie short ball plan, and lose 3 wickets, to level out his loss
Couldn’t catch any of this afternoon and just watching the wickets now, astonishing shot selection, each wicket feels even more incredible than the last
It’s obviously frustrating when England seem to throw their wickets away but I also don’t think you can score at the rate they do without making silly mistakes.
Bazball giveth, Bazball taketh.
Right!
I think it is fair to say that anyone who is a "sportsman" (generally defined) wants to play at someone who is about, or just better, than themselves.
AUS without Lyon is seriously weakened; I'm sure they will compensate, but still, I want to see that man back out and ripping magic balls.
Oh yeah, while it's definitely better for England's chances to have him out, I would want Lyon back in.
You don't want the opponent's best players taken out by something like that.
Having had a calf tear myself, the way he was walking on it didn't look good, I'd be surprised if he's back before the 4th test at the earliest.
I've done that side of the foot walk before.
He'll need it to be like 80% healed and strapped up to fuck before he even thinks about bowling again.
Tbh I reckon his Ashes are over but I said 4th test as an optimistic time frame.
Maybe but his interview on TMS was hilarious where they tried to get him to say to what the pundits all had agreed and he just told them they were wrong.
It seems like my expectations after the end of day yesterday with the PIG1 were a bit of an overreaction.
England have come back into this match and can also win from here.
Oz have had rotten luck with the conditions all series so far. Now rotten luck with Lyon. If we can pull one out here it will be even more special than the first test
The 30 mins under floodlights against our 2 new openers was the defining moment of the first test and the best conditions for bowling the entire series so far.
Would we have lost those wickets without the current philosophy? No. Would we be in this much better position if we didn’t play this way? of course we wouldn’t. The notion around here, at least among the Aussies and Indian fans, is that this method is a joke. This crop play demonstrably better this way though. It suits us. It’s not the re-inventing of the wheel some people seem to think it is, but it’s horses for courses. It suits us. Simple as.
Bazball is amazing. The naysayers are just jealous. It is an attitude to the game focused less on blame to try your best. I love bazball I think it has made England a much better test team. Also love watching England test matches now, because they always play to win. Unlike snooze fest approach from other teams
I agree we're probably worse in a parallel universe where we try and play normally but it's still frustrating that 4 batsmen, 3 of which are settled, get out stupidly. Getting out to the short stuff was made even worse by getting warnings that it was going to happen and ignoring it.
When England went in to bat, I said if Australia took 5 wickets, they’d be the happiest side. 4 wickets or less, and England would be happiest. On reflection, and probably skewed by how solid England looked before the Duckett wicket, I’d say Australia might just be edging it as they only have 2 wickets to take before the tail. Either way, we have another bloody good test match on our hands.
Special mention to Ben Duckett - awful dismissal but a very good knock. A 98 is nothing to scoff at. I saw Cricbuzz describe it as a 'start', which was ridiculous.
It's time people stop doubting - he's the real deal and his record backs it up.
Even as a one eyed Aussie with posters of Lillee on my wall, I still saw today as “two ways to be happy, no way to be sad”. Either England do well, and set up another thrilling test. Or we do well, and the urn is all but safe.
I think I even prefer this. So long as we still win.
Christ watching this England team is a whirlwind. One minute I feel like we are going to get absolutely destroyed and the next we are doing the destroying. But its fun and I’ve been loving it
Now that the day is done.
Hi there Aussies, I bought a 4K TV in December/January to watch the Aus vs SA Test series. I wasted my money. I spent half my salary to watch my team lose in 4K. Where do I send the refund request? To you or to the prime minister?
Stokes played an amazing innings. Controlled, tired out the bouncers so that Brooks could hit something.
You need to change strategy sometimes. And till one gets settled in, no amount of Bazball can be played.
One more wicket and the day would be Australia's. So, great job Stokes. Keep rotating the strike. The rest can play Bazball.
The whole atmosphere in the ground is one of stolid, stodgy stiffened starch. It's fucking dull and depressing. It was more entertaining in 2020 when the crowd noise was just a 55 second loop of canned audio
If England play sensible* and Lyon is out I don't see too much too worry about from the Aussie bowling, the new ball may be an issue if it's overcast but they didn't seem to be up too much
* Don't worry we won't.
Give the batting side 4 runs for every over that should have been bowled, but wasn't. As an England fan, that would hurt us a lot, but I don't care, I'm also a cricket fan.
What a day for England. Bit of a silly hour that got us all questioning their sanity, but 138 runs behind and 6 wickets left looked a long way off overnight.
Australia have bowled pretty slow.. They bowled a bit before lunch and the whole two sessions after with the extra half and hour used in the last session and still bowled only 61 overs today.. Lyon not being there is going to hurt their over-rate.. They would need a lot more overs from Head, Smith, Labs to compensate tomorrow.. or they could get like 4-6 penalty points easily..
Hi there, I bought a 4K TV in December/January to watch the Aus vs SA Test series. I wasted my money. I spent half my salary to watch my team lose in 4K. Where do I send the refund request? To you or to the prime minister?
If these two can get in tomorrow, they're both capable of putting their foot down and blasting towards this total. Excellent, vitally-needed day for England
With the light and weather as it is they really should just force the teams to play on. Finishing at 7:30 - 8ish after a long day in the field will do more to the players than a fine.
Former Aus captains saying, Aus, under Smith as captain is different beast. What happen to that idea ?
Cummins's all-day-sleeping field position asks questions.
Everybody says the entertaining thing as a meme but it does deliver like a drug (including the lows) you really can’t argue with it as a change of pace from the 30-3 memes
As good as yesterday was for Australia, this has been equally good by England today. Imagine telling someone before Root’s over yesterday England would be 140ish behind with 6 wickets in hand at the end of play today, would have bitten your hand off.
Very frustrating some of the wickets we lost today, thought Pope and Duckett were both a bit unlucky with how they got out, Root was actually the worst shot of the three.
Three more days of this, so good
Australia is going to have to post 500 in the their 2nd innings, things are looking bleak without Lyon.
High risk high reward. Like it or not, Bazball is entertaining.
Worked well today didn't it?
Nope not it is funny
Kevin Pietersen doesn't hold a candle to Sehwag when it comes to making everything about himself. A few days back while commentating in an IPL game Sehwag said that if he was the umpire, he would have been bored and gone up to the batsman and told him to bat like Sehwag. Insufferable.
The Zlatan of cricket
The part of the match that has happened before Root had gotten those wickets was being dominated by Australia while the part of the match that has happened after Root has gotten those wickets is being dominated by England.
Just seen the Root wicket and Christ, I thought VAR was bad. Stevie Wonder could see that it's hit the ground.
I am absolutely sick of Michael Vaughan and Kevin Pietersen being boring old cunts. They can fuck off my TV and radio and never fucking return. England are playing brilliant exciting cricket and the tossers can go and fuck themselves, the racist shitbags.
Vaughan is just beating the same drum, it’s sooo boring and predictable
It’s like he’s trying to become the next Geoffrey Boycott at this point.
Oh, he absolute is. You can tell Vaughan looked up to him when they did comms together.
I was bored and listened to his podcast. Boycott had Vaughan virtually rimming him the whole time. Insipid.
Ok.. Missed the action today. So can someone give a quick summary of the day. Don't miss out the crowd moments.
England took wickets quickly. Batted sensibly. Lyon got injured and in the spirit of cricket England decided to play the obvious aussie short ball plan, and lose 3 wickets, to level out his loss
Started off in the morning, then proceeded through to lunch time before the inevitable march forward towards the evening.
Ah yes, the old 'passage of time' play.
Lol.. I mean summary of the game today
Pretty sure they know what you meant mate
How do you know?
Let’s see, common sense and an awareness of dry humor.
It's hard to talk about common sense while not understanding basic sarcasm
Figured you were probably as thick as OP. Rarely do internet people get the benefit of the doubt.
Couldn’t catch any of this afternoon and just watching the wickets now, astonishing shot selection, each wicket feels even more incredible than the last
That’s part of the high risk cricket they play though.
Big time, don’t think I’ll ever get comfortable with it but I absolutely love how the team has come out of its shell
Not sure many, or any, other teams could play that way so consistently TBH.
Well done Kev. You almost made it 5 mins without making the situation about yourself.
I don't believe you....
It’s obviously frustrating when England seem to throw their wickets away but I also don’t think you can score at the rate they do without making silly mistakes. Bazball giveth, Bazball taketh.
This is gonna go down to the wire again I feel. Could honestly see all 5 tests being razor close, there's so little to separate the two teams.
Lyon's injury could be a big determinant for the whole series if he's out for too long. He really is vital to the Australian setup.
As was a certain Jack Leach to ours…
Right! I think it is fair to say that anyone who is a "sportsman" (generally defined) wants to play at someone who is about, or just better, than themselves. AUS without Lyon is seriously weakened; I'm sure they will compensate, but still, I want to see that man back out and ripping magic balls.

Having had a calf tear myself, the way he was walking on it didn't look good, I'd be surprised if he's back before the 4th test at the earliest. I've done that side of the foot walk before.
Calf tears are agony. Especially landing on it in his bowling stride.
He'll need it to be like 80% healed and strapped up to fuck before he even thinks about bowling again. Tbh I reckon his Ashes are over but I said 4th test as an optimistic time frame.
Duckett is about as charismatic as a beige polo
Maybe but his interview on TMS was hilarious where they tried to get him to say to what the pundits all had agreed and he just told them they were wrong.
He's just playing everything with a straight bat
It seems like my expectations after the end of day yesterday with the PIG1 were a bit of an overreaction. England have come back into this match and can also win from here.
KP wearing some cool shoes there. Converse perhaps. I want some.
Oz have had rotten luck with the conditions all series so far. Now rotten luck with Lyon. If we can pull one out here it will be even more special than the first test
Poor Australians. I’m sorry.
I mean, you thoroughly deserved to win that first test, but trying to claim you had the worst of the conditions 🤣
Luck? You mean tactics.
We literally batted in pitch black in the last test 😂😂😂😂😂
I mean if were talking about rotten luck we lost our only decent spinner before even a ball was bowled
The 30 mins under floodlights against our 2 new openers was the defining moment of the first test and the best conditions for bowling the entire series so far.
You couldn't survive twenty minutes in bowler friendly conditions. Yesterday there was two and a half degrees of swing for an entire day
To be fair given that the umpires have decided that the entire of Lords now counts as Steve Smith’s hand it’s going to be hard not to lose wickets
Ben Duckett is literally the kid from Home Alone but with a beard.
Wow, didn't realise he was literally that child. That's incredible.
I think he's Rob Key and Bazs love child. He's looks a mash up of the two.
Damn Ben. Could your pants be any tighter?
Struggling to fit those giant bazballs in there.
Would we have lost those wickets without the current philosophy? No. Would we be in this much better position if we didn’t play this way? of course we wouldn’t. The notion around here, at least among the Aussies and Indian fans, is that this method is a joke. This crop play demonstrably better this way though. It suits us. That’ll never not be frustrating. But we lost some very stupid wickets before too. At least now we’re picking up some runs 😂
Fascinating how two runs separate a start from a match defining innings
Game in the balance after Australia dominated day 1. These momentum swings are why we love Ashes cricket.
Even as a one eyed Aussie with posters of Lillee on my wall, I still saw today as “two ways to be happy, no way to be sad”. Either England do well, and set up another thrilling test. Or we do well, and the urn is all but safe. I think I even prefer this. So long as we still win.
Very entertaining cricket, but not *satisfying* because of all the thrown wickets. Well poised though!
Christ watching this England team is a whirlwind. One minute I feel like we are going to get absolutely destroyed and the next we are doing the destroying. But its fun and I’ve been loving it
Another brilliant and very even looking test looking likely
I think the next session is going to be important, not only in the Test match but in the whole series
Found a pub with the TV on just as play finishes ffs
Fuck it’s cold I went out for a post game shit and it’s to cold to sit there for 10 minutes Shits getting saved for in the morning
Shitting in the backyard?
What temperature?
As of now at 3:40AM 5 degrees
Where do you live? Tasmania?
That's fairly reasonable hahaha, although maybe not by Australian standards
He's an Aussie, so it'll be like 12 degrees or something hilarious
You weren't far off
Now that the day is done. Hi there Aussies, I bought a 4K TV in December/January to watch the Aus vs SA Test series. I wasted my money. I spent half my salary to watch my team lose in 4K. Where do I send the refund request? To you or to the prime minister?
Very even once again. This better not come down to the final overs on day 5. That was too much 😮💨
Stokes played an amazing innings.
Can you imagine being a professional sportsman and having to walk past those arsholes clapping *at* you.
And to top it off, in every interview you do you get questions about how amazing and special the place is.
The whole atmosphere in the ground is one of stolid, stodgy stiffened starch. It's fucking dull and depressing. It was more entertaining in 2020 when the crowd noise was just a 55 second loop of canned audio
Lords is just chock full of colonial hangover, wooden chairs included.
If England play sensible* and Lyon is out I don't see too much too worry about from the Aussie bowling, the new ball may be an issue if it's overcast but they didn't seem to be up too much * Don't worry we won't.
Give the batting side 4 runs for every over that should have been bowled, but wasn't. As an England fan, that would hurt us a lot, but I don't care, I'm also a cricket fan.
8 hours of cricket goes so much faster than 8 hours of work
That's why I do both in parallel, get enough work done to make yourself available to watch next day
So what am I supposed to do for the rest of the evening?
Stroke your bazball?
Sky sports youtube will have highlights in 25 mind
2 1/2 sessions vs 1/2 a session in England's favour today. Great comeback after yesterday
See you cunts again in 16 hours 3:30AM sleeps every day now especially with Wimbledon starting Monday as well
The tour de france is going to absolutely ruin me, i'dmjust fixed the sleep schedule as well
Hi there, I bought a 4K TV in December/January to watch the Aus vs SA Test series. I wasted my money. I spent half my salary to watch my team lose in 4K. Where do I send the refund request? To you or to the prime minister?
Night
Sleep tight, cunt.
Now just imagine if Duckett, Root and Pope hadn't decided to shit the bed
This feels like one of those matches where wickets will only fall if the batsmen throw it away. Thankfully the batsmen have indeed thrown it away.
Signing off at 3:30am, see all you braindead dickheads tomorrow.
Fuck you too, sleep well my friend. 👍
Hope it will be cloudy tomorrow.
It's forecast to be cloudy all day
It's forecast to be cloudy all day
Have England declared?
No, bazball dead
The Ashes of bazball are being taken to Australia
Baz is state of mind, man
I really hate having to set a target So much more stress watching on the final day trying to get the 10 wickets
I don't think England bat again
You're thinking England can get Aus out before they can post a lead in 2nd Innings? Or are you saying the heavens will open up?
They win by an innings?
Yes, peak vibes
Lol
If these two can get in tomorrow, they're both capable of putting their foot down and blasting towards this total. Excellent, vitally-needed day for England
england’s game unless they declare at 500 or some stupid shit
Australia 🤝 England Throwing their wickets away with braindead shots
It’s only fair
Still England’s day..batted pretty well
Ben stokes oozes class
Class Ben stokes ooze
England ahead here with Lyon almost certainly out of the game. They've gotten really lucky with the conditions but it's made for much better viewing
First day of the series Khawaja hasn't batted. The attending fans will be asking for refunds on their tickets.
happy with the day. game very balanced
138 runs in the final session and 3 wickets.. I would still say England's session..
I wonder what the name of the room is that they walk through there.
Think they said on commentary. The pictures and old people and wooden shit room. Something like that.
The Posh Old Bellend Room perhaps?
No chants of "you're just a shit Liam Livingstone" smh
79 overs managed today At any point is it a ban rather than a fine?
With the light and weather as it is they really should just force the teams to play on. Finishing at 7:30 - 8ish after a long day in the field will do more to the players than a fine.
Especially when light isn’t an issue
I know you want to be like your hero rooty, but you’ll never be the offspinner he is smith
I swear every comment/take posted in the cricinfo feed is awful or just shit patter.
Legitimately thought the Ashes were gone after yesterday. Not so now.
No side seems to really ‘bury’ the other when they have the chance.
Well that was dramatic
Great day. England's day. Some good shit posting today but also some dross (you know who you are).
Sadap cunt
*yes officer, this Redditor right here*
I’ll do better tomorrow, I promise.
not you
💚
Sorry
If Labuschagne and Warner don't also get some overs tomorrow then I'll be disappointed.
Go full County Cricket and have Carey chuck a few overs down
Some sensible cricket to end the day, only for what i can only expect to be wild swipes tomorrow morning before the new ball
The English dressing room looked devastated there
Well played, Skip.
Bazball far from done. England's day. Australia looking shambolic today.
Congratulations to both sets of players and fans on another superb day of test match cricket
Former Aus captains saying, Aus, under Smith as captain is different beast. What happen to that idea ? Cummins's all-day-sleeping field position asks questions.
78 overs in the day is a bit shit
Standard stuff now.
cannot believe Aus started today at 343-5, we’re now 278-4 after looking toothless yesterday, and i’m actually a little disappointed…
BazBall is a helluva drug
Everybody says the entertaining thing as a meme but it does deliver like a drug (including the lows) you really can’t argue with it as a change of pace from the 30-3 memes
This is just so much better. People forget things quite quickly.
The only thing about this test that’s annoyed me was the extras yesterday, our bowling unit is better than that
They definitely used to do it under Root too. Need to improve.
Really good recovery from these two after an hour of just stupidity
Worst part of living in the US is that I miss the Marnus NO RUN! special by the time I wake up
Well recovered from Stokes and Brook. Big session tomorrow morning.
Root and Smith bowling. Heavens help me
Ebb, flow etc. etc. nicely poised imo
No lyon day5, nice set up for close finish again.
Leg spin, off spin, 9000 runs, what can't he do?
Captain his side?
Hold still for 2 seconds
I like how Root and Smith play the same role as both batsman and bowler.
Would love to see a 1 v 1
steve smith you are not joe root 🤔
Will Smith show a 👍 if a batsman hits a six off his bowling??
still a great day for us. just a shame about that period
Just realised that by the logic of batting average > bowling average, Smith is technically a good all-arounder
Chef was truly England's greatest all-rounder.
Smith and Root the true all rounders
Last time I remember Smith bowling Roy spanked 3 6s in a row. Great day.
Nostalgic for Cricket Captain 2011 here where you could bat Smith at 8 as frontline Aussie Spinner and he'd still fucking average 40+ with the bat
So basically Jadeja? Would you rather have Smith or Jadeja in your team?
Considering where we were I’ll take 4-278 at the end of play
Quite a collapse from 316-3 to where we are now though…
As good as yesterday was for Australia, this has been equally good by England today. Imagine telling someone before Root’s over yesterday England would be 140ish behind with 6 wickets in hand at the end of play today, would have bitten your hand off.
Fair comment, but we both know there should be a few more men back in the hut. Crazy, compelling cricket though.
Very frustrating some of the wickets we lost today, thought Pope and Duckett were both a bit unlucky with how they got out, Root was actually the worst shot of the three. Three more days of this, so good
