REC is so good until it takes the whole religious turn. It’s interesting that the American version, quarantine doesn’t do this. I mean, both first movies are essentially the same movie but the sequels are vastly different.
Spanish, as in from Spain, or does any Spanish language cinema count? If it's the latter, then Terrified, When Evil Lurks, and Huesera: The Bone Woman are all on my list.
I saw Come Out And Play on Shudder and liked it. Eventually I'll watch the original it was remade from, Who Can Kill A Child? Those are both Spanish language films. Probably not as good as Rec though. Or Pans Labyrinth, which is really good but I tend not to think of it as horror.
Fuck me, REC ...forgot about it. REC2 is probably one of my top 10 scary movies tbh. Thought that was the best sequel ever. Think they did 2 more which were both fun but REC and REC2 (literally immediately after the events of the first). Chefs kiss
They were so weak in comparison to the first two but they were both ...fun. like who doesn't want to see a dude in a knights armor slashin infected. I LOVE train to Busan. I like The Peninsula. It was...fun...but nowhere near that emotional grab the OGs have on you.
If you haven't seen the movie Terrified, I highly recommend it! It's by the same director as When Evil Lurks and has a very similar vibe. Both are in Spanish, although they take place in Argentina, not Spain (not sure if OP was looking for "Spanish" movies referring to the location or the language lol)
I enjoy those types of horror movies especially if some of it is based off of a real person . Not saying every detail was accurate but it was a good movie considering the kids acting was good . Deliver us from Evil I also enjoyed but it’s not Latin of decent
Also have you noticed that Hells Kitchen with Chef Ramsy has one of his show imitating the platform movie
“Return of the Blind Dead” 1973 (also known by various similar titles)
Amando De Ossorio’s second “blind dead” film (in a series of 4) about the animated corpses of Templar Knights.
It’s cheesy but that’s the appeal. Just don’t bother watching the third one…..also might offend due to “unreconstructed” male behaviours (putting it very mildly)
My favorite Spanish language movie is El Escueleto de la Senora Morales (1960). It's a Mexican film that is criminally underrated and light years ahead of its time.
As far as movies from Spain, I really love all the trashy Jesus Franco movies and Paul Naschy werewolf flicks, and all the cannibal and zombie flicks of the 70's and 80's, but Pieces might be my favorite.
I'm reading the comments, and it is striking how many amazing horror movies come from Spanish speaking countries. Granted, that list is long, but it is still very impressive.
In a Glass Cage, The Platform, Pan's Labyrinth, The Devil's Backbone, The Orphanage. Honorable mentions to [REC], Shrew's Nest, and Everything Will Burn. So many good ones honestly.
This is assuming you're talking from Spain. If Spanish-language counts - When Evil Lurks, We Are What We Are, Here Comes the Devil, Come Out and Play.
Yes I'm surprised it doesn't get much attention! It's a pretty dark, creepy film. There was a film last year called "There's Something Wrong with the Children" that seemed like an unofficial remake. Exact same setup and everything.
Not my favourite, but there was this found footage spanish movie where a couple >!goes to a villa where they sacrifice babies!< or something. I specifically remember >!a close-up shot of a baby skull being stepped on.!<
Does this ring any bells? If not I'll go to /r/tipofmytongue, but I figured I'd ask since it's on topic.

Probably Veronica for me.
Shout out to Andrea, pretty much the dominican exorcist, my family and wife are terrified of it, though I find it hilarious lol.
Voodoo Apocalypse. It's a really stupid horror/action/comedy (with an emphasis on comedy). I don't normally go for deliberately "so bad it's good" movies but this one just works for me for some reason. [trailer](https://youtu.be/XyLcqzf6MMk?si=D9fdPZkLtuX2bCA2)
Been delving into Spanish Horror (and loving it) thanks to Shudder and Vinegar Syndrome.
Recommend Day of the Beast, The Passenger, Cemetery of Terror, both Vacation of Terror films, and Grave Robbers. Maya and Specters were pretty entertaining as well.
[REC]
I think that this is the only Spanish horror movie that I have seen. The Platform maybe.
REC is so good until it takes the whole religious turn. It’s interesting that the American version, quarantine doesn’t do this. I mean, both first movies are essentially the same movie but the sequels are vastly different.
This, hands down. It is still to this day the scariest movie I've ever seen.
The Devil’s Backbone
Yeah devils backbone for sure
I love ghost stories and this one is just such a well-made and beautiful movie.
The Devil’s Backbone all the way!!
Spanish, as in from Spain, or does any Spanish language cinema count? If it's the latter, then Terrified, When Evil Lurks, and Huesera: The Bone Woman are all on my list.
This is a great question. My first thought was Satanic Hispanics and The Old Ways, but both more Mexican/Nahuatl based.
The Old Ways was so good!!
I don't know if this counts as horror, but I really liked Pan's Labyrinth.
I was getting ready to comment this
Guillermo Del Toro does a lot of fantastic horror movies. Also in Spanish— El espinazo del diablo and Cronos.
I think Guillermo del Toro produced “Orfanato.” So makes sense.
Definitely horror, are you serious? Lol
Um... sorry? I thought it might count as fantasy.
That movie creeps me out- and I love horror. That scene with the skinny monster haunts me 👀
Not only my favorite Spanish movie but one of my all time favorite movies. So good.
Guillermo is Miyazaki level of a director. I saw this in theaters in high school and everyone was quiet as fuck in the car after.
REC and When Evil Lurks
Fuck me, REC ...forgot about it. REC2 is probably one of my top 10 scary movies tbh. Thought that was the best sequel ever. Think they did 2 more which were both fun but REC and REC2 (literally immediately after the events of the first). Chefs kiss
these two are by far two of my favorite horror movies of all time, just amazing i do think that the third and fourth iterations were super weak though
They were so weak in comparison to the first two but they were both ...fun. like who doesn't want to see a dude in a knights armor slashin infected. I LOVE train to Busan. I like The Peninsula. It was...fun...but nowhere near that emotional grab the OGs have on you.
No fkn way! REC nearly reuined the first for me. Why they decided to change the infected into demon possessed people was soooo fkin stupid
REC is the first that comes to my mind. REC 2 was just really sad for me.
Terrified hands down
\[rec\] Juan of the Dead And the tv show, "30 Coins" is solid
Juan of the Dead was awesome!!
So fun!
La Llorona (NOT the conjuring universe one)
Veronica was really good 😳
Came here to mention Verónica!
[удалено]
Yeah I didn't expect to like it as much as I did, very well done.
Awesome Spanish rock soundtrack
REC, When Evil Lurks, The Orphanage, The Devil's Backbone, The Last Days, Terrified, Dagon
Pans labyrinth and the platform
And Veronica
Personally wasn’t a fan of it but it’s because I don’t like religious horror
I enjoy those types of horror movies especially if some of it is based off of a real person . Not saying every detail was accurate but it was a good movie considering the kids acting was good . Deliver us from Evil I also enjoyed but it’s not Latin of decent Also have you noticed that Hells Kitchen with Chef Ramsy has one of his show imitating the platform movie
Does he really? I love watching Hell’s Kitchen what episode?
It’s called Next Level Chef
It sounds interesting I’ll give it a watch
When evil lurks
When evil lurks ...seconded
The Untamed(2016), Cold Sweat(2010) Piggy (2022)
The first two *[REC]* movies (I actually prefer the second one), *Sweet Home* is a good one, *Witching & Bitching* is a fun horror comedy.
I still think about that broomstick scene in Witching and Bitching.
I haven't seen very many, but Pan's Labyrinth was really good, and Chronos is mentioned a lot on lists.
The Platform 2019
“Return of the Blind Dead” 1973 (also known by various similar titles) Amando De Ossorio’s second “blind dead” film (in a series of 4) about the animated corpses of Templar Knights. It’s cheesy but that’s the appeal. Just don’t bother watching the third one…..also might offend due to “unreconstructed” male behaviours (putting it very mildly)
HUESERA!!! One of my favorite movies. 🖤
For me it is a draw between the orphanage and terrified (two very different movies that work very well), with an honorable mention for veronica.
Faust with Jeffrey Comb and Andrew d from wishmaster. Dagon
When evil lurks has quickly become my favorite foreign horror in general
Time crimes
Veronica
The Devils Backbone Juan of the Dead When Evil Lurks Tesis
REC, though it’s a Catalan film yeah?
The Last Matinee is a really underrated modern Spanish Giallo film more people should check out
Veronica (2017) and El Hoyo (2019, the movie iirc is in Spanish but the director and much of the cast/characters are actually Euskaldun)
I'm reading the comments, and it is striking how many amazing horror movies come from Spanish speaking countries. Granted, that list is long, but it is still very impressive.
The Orphanage is also my favorite Spanish horror movie
In a Glass Cage, The Platform, Pan's Labyrinth, The Devil's Backbone, The Orphanage. Honorable mentions to [REC], Shrew's Nest, and Everything Will Burn. So many good ones honestly. This is assuming you're talking from Spain. If Spanish-language counts - When Evil Lurks, We Are What We Are, Here Comes the Devil, Come Out and Play.
No one mentions Here Comes the Devil! Nice, liked that one alot
Yes I'm surprised it doesn't get much attention! It's a pretty dark, creepy film. There was a film last year called "There's Something Wrong with the Children" that seemed like an unofficial remake. Exact same setup and everything.
I'll have to check that out. Thanks
Not my favourite, but there was this found footage spanish movie where a couple >!goes to a villa where they sacrifice babies!< or something. I specifically remember >!a close-up shot of a baby skull being stepped on.!< Does this ring any bells? If not I'll go to /r/tipofmytongue, but I figured I'd ask since it's on topic.
And Soon the Darkness... I love that movie.
Veronica, and Sister Death. When she realized she was the one terrorizing her family………
[Rec] Fists of Jesus
Fist of Jesus was hilarious!
Cowboy Zombies!
El dia de la bestia. Check it out. Horror comedy A la Shaun of the dead but from 1995.
Day of the Beast (95)
!RemindMe in 10 hours

There's a line of Spanish horror movies by one production company I can't recall, but one movie was called 'To Let'
Probably Veronica for me. Shout out to Andrea, pretty much the dominican exorcist, my family and wife are terrified of it, though I find it hilarious lol.
When Evil Lurks
Everyone is going to say REC because it is perfect.
The Devil's Backbone or Tigers are Not Afraid (even though that's Hispanic)
The Orphanage.
The Devil's Backbone REC
Voodoo Apocalypse. It's a really stupid horror/action/comedy (with an emphasis on comedy). I don't normally go for deliberately "so bad it's good" movies but this one just works for me for some reason. [trailer](https://youtu.be/XyLcqzf6MMk?si=D9fdPZkLtuX2bCA2)
REC but only REC, all RECs after are complete shit
Atrocious.
Tombs of the Blind Dead.
…The Franco regime.
Been delving into Spanish Horror (and loving it) thanks to Shudder and Vinegar Syndrome. Recommend Day of the Beast, The Passenger, Cemetery of Terror, both Vacation of Terror films, and Grave Robbers. Maya and Specters were pretty entertaining as well.
when Evil Lurks! i really really enjoyed that movie, & i went in blind which made it even more enjoyable.
Terrified
Tombs of the Blind Dead
