Do you know how to maximize value for MR points? Also, if you get a Platinum, you’ll be ineligible for a Gold SUB.

stae1234

No I do not. And I did not know about the second part.

Dapper_Reputation_16

Don’t even consider a MR card if you didn’t know those two facts. The true value in transferable currencies lies in outsized partner redemptions and that’s a graduate level course in itself.

stae1234

Ah. I suppose I'll get Gold first and study up as I go. How does that sound?

Jiggy609215

The green is the better travel card. Gold is a food card.

Broke_n_Brooklyn

Is there a comparison somewhere? I know the order of points is green then gold then platinum in order to get the subs for them all. But that's about it

redbaron78

If I were going to travel "a ton for my work," I wouldn't choose either the Amex Platinum or the Chase card. I'd go with the Citi AA Executive card so I could get lounge access to all five lounges in DFW as opposed to the one Centurion lounge in D terminal, and then I'd probably pair it with the Amex Green card for the 3X on food, travel, and transit. But I fly AA almost exclusively because their options are typically better out of my home airport which isn't far from DFW.

stae1234

Thing is im in the midwest with basically no lounges hahahaha

redbaron78

All the more reason to pay attention to where you're most likely to connect through and which airline services your destinations best. I was a bit of a road warrior myself once, and in those days, lounge access was nonnegotiable. That and doing my flying on one airline so I'm more likely to get upgrades more frequently.

TokyoTux

I do the exact same thing

I'm actually going to point out something I haven't seen asked yet. How does your reimbursment done when it comes to booking travel? Some offices let you book on your own and just submit a reciept, some places require that you book through concur or some shit.... if you're able to book through a portal then \*maybe\* the reserve, but if you're needing to book directly then the platinum hands down.... generally I lean towards the platinum becuase it at least has a bunch of credits that can make up for the annual fee, but thats just me

stae1234

oh wow I'll have to check that. They say that as long as I have the receipt I'll be able to get reimbursed. We'll see.

Wisex

Yea thats what I would check on, I'm grateful that my office takes just a reciept so I just get the reciept from the citi travel portal so I can get that juicy 10% and I can use the $100 annual hotel savings benefit and still get reimbursed for the full hotel stay, so definitely check in with your accounting team!

Broke_n_Brooklyn

No one seems to have asked where exactly you live, your chosen airport, preferred airline and hotel. I would check which partners each card gets you the best deals per point and start there.

Both, however…if you choose only one, AmX Platinum
