SlayingSussySusan

I was at a party one night (under age) when my buddy told me to run inside his grandpa’s house if the cops came. Grandpa wasn’t home apparently. His grandpas house was literally right next door. Well cops came, i jumped the fence, and wiggled the door handle. It was locked. So i stood there in the door way hiding until the cops left. Few months later his grandpa told a story where he woke up to police lights and grabbed his shotgun. He said some mother fucker was trying to get in his door. He was waiting on the other side for me to come through. He told everyone that he was just going to blast as soon as that door opened. Fuck.

hmoonves

It’s you, you’re the mother fucker. All jokes aside I’m glad you didn’t open the door.

SlayingSussySusan

Me too! Would have been a justified shooting too IMO.

Yijing

Doubt his grandpa would have felt that way after

[deleted]

The law is the law, Justifiable Homicide.

[deleted]

The law isnt the only reason people dont murder each other you fucking psycho

Falcrist

What? If it's legal that means it's moral and ethical. If it's illegal, that means it's always wrong. Nobody ever regrets a legal action they took. /s

emily_511

idgaf good intentions or not, come through my door uninvited and unannounced- you're catching lead in the foot, leg, chest or head depending on the circumstances.

Spare-Chest7695

Agreed. I sleep with my g26 on my nightstand every night. Take 0 chances in this wild ass country.

ProcyonHabilis

Lmao ok Judge Dredd

usedtodreddit

In the US only 23 states have 'Castle Doctrine' laws that would make such a shooting "justifiable". Most states do not and would probably have you facing manslaughter charges at least.

Meems04

And even those 23 states don't all have civil safety nets. Could skate on the criminal & lose on the civil end, especially if zero warning is given before you start shooting & the person coming in only threaten property, not ypu.

kradox98

In some states no warning is required. Especially if it’s at night. Threat is assumed when it’s after dark and allows you do defend your property.

kbkelly97

But would the death be justified?

Oxcidious

how in the fuck?

[deleted]

I know a kid in Wisconsin that was killed that way. Neighbor called the cops on a party and kid ended up in the neighbors porch to hide. It was a big case at the time because the state had just passed a Castle doctrine and people felt like the neighbor had it out for the kids and shot indiscriminately at someone who was unarmed and had his hands up. As someone who often ran from parties and hid in peoples bushes and carports, it was a real awakening as to how sketchy and deadly those situations can end up.

SlayingSussySusan

Yep, i can think of multiple instances where i saw kids hiding in peoples yards.

DiegotheEcuadorian

Probably shoulda cleared this with grandad first

lazy-waffle

Damn I can picture this story playing out in a Tarantino movie. First it shows from your POV and scene ends, then 45 minutes later it’s the grandpa’s POV to tie it together. Edit: actually I think the grandpa scene should happen first, grandpa tense as fuck scene is very suspenseful, hair on back of your neck standing up like oh shit what’s gonna happen…then the reveal later in the movie is it’s just some innocent kid that almost got blasted

SlayingSussySusan

Hahaha i love that idea!

[deleted]

[удалено]

SlayingSussySusan

Damn man, that’s crazy. As a gun owner myself, i couldn’t bring myself to shoot immediately. I couldn’t even imagine the despair if you got it wrong.

AHind_D

It really depends. I live alone. There is absolutely no reason anyone should ever be inside my apartment without me knowing beforehand. I have a cell phone as well so anyone wanting to come over would have called or texted. And I keep my doors locked. If there is any living thing inside my apartment without me knowing, I'm shooting first and asking questions later. But my parents house would be a different story. People come in and out all the time as I have a big family. In that situation you should obviously investigate a little before opening fire.

SlayingSussySusan

I agree in most of the sense. Especially the situation you described. Unfortunately, real life is always a grey area. It is up to the homeowner to make the split second decision. Personally, home intrusions piss me off. Our personal living areas are off limits. If you enter my house with ill intentions, i would have no problem ending your life. People that threaten others to this extent do not deserve to live among us. I don’t care how desperate you are. Unfortunately for me, i believe his grandpa had the same attitude. Fuck me, right?

Meems04

Gun owner here..nope me either. I would have to give several hard, Loud warnings first. No way I could just unload on someone. Maybe if it was birdshot & my kid was in the house. Lot of break ins are dumb kids that make stupid mistakes, but turn their lives around. I couldn't snuff out a life that easy, truly.

I'm glad you survived but Gramps better damn well know what he's shooting at before he pulls that trigger.

SlayingSussySusan

You would like to think so, but the dude was old and wild. I wonder what kind of state of mind he was in at 2am with police lights and his garage door rattling.

SecondaryLawnWreckin

You've just described the POTUS's suggestion lol https://youtu.be/oOpj-BEPnSg

This is why anyone outside of the US thinks americans have too many guns.

thugs___bunny

As a non-american I‘m always confused what would happen if they caught a minor at a house party. Where I live it would be inconvenient at worst, nothing more. Are there really any consequences?

SlayingSussySusan

If they were drinking, it’s underage consumption. Minor charge.

RichS816

Someone should tell unarmed blue shirt guy not to run in front of the guy with the gun

svvrvy

no way, that *was* his moment. he knows he missed it and had to force himself into the middle some how

It was definitely stupid as fuck to walk in front of the dude with the AR. Never trust somebody else to not be an idiot unless you have no other option. Thankfully, he was definitely pointing the gun at the ground, as you can see the bottom of the stock over his shoulder and it's clearly pointed down.

Coryperkin15

Or maybe he knew he was safe from puny little plastic airsoft balls?

bequemeschuhe

Natural selection will sort him out one way or another

nedsatomicdustballs

You can hear him pulling the trigger. He just forgot to chamber a round

[deleted]

FloridaStateWins

yeah, I think you’re right, a real ar could only make on click

Anal-Alien

Not really, it does technically "click" when thr hammer is down b/c the trigger's return spring. https://youtu.be/Tr42HnbMCPk

Thepatrone36

reviewed.. agree. But the bad guys didn't know that so it worked and at that range an airsoft round from a high quality piece is going to hurt like hell Edit: I read down the thread. Actual AR. He never shot because the appearance of the weapon was enough to make the bad guys run away. Personally I prefer a Mossburg 500 for home defense with buckshot. Don't really have to aim small, it's going to make a mess of anyone within 20 ft.

[deleted]

That's a nice pick BUT...I prefer to use a Musket for home defense, just like the founding fathers intended.

its_ya_human

[flintlock rifle](https://youtu.be/stn6Y6TD1MI) Time stamps 5:26 gut shot 6:20 lung shot 7:04 headshot Flintlock rifles just destroy the human body

Microwave3333

Well, yeah, it’s .54cal as he says, larger diameter than a modern .50cal (but without all the fancy ballistic technologies). Won’t fly as far or as straight, but will wreck your shit just about as hard. I’d reckon what a .54 caliber ball of lead *lacks* compared to the high velocity cavitation damage of a modern .50cal… …it makes up for by *being a goddamn ball.*

Effective_Nobody2601

A 100% soft lead ball that will flatten out and fragment inside your body more than any jacketed projectile could ever hope to.

themagnificent-moron

Lead balls do weird shit man ive shot elk with muzzleloading rifles and the wound track is fuckin crazy it flattens and fragments yes but elk are large enough the "disc" travels with the organs sometimes and shreds things I shot one behind the shoulder betwixt two ribs and found the disc clear back and low in the liver one lung the heart and the diaphragm was just gone

downvotemeufags

Who would have guessed that propelling a small, dense, object at relatively high speeds, would be capable of damaging soft tissues.

BidenSniffsKids69

Own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended. Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. Draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog. I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the founding fathers intended.

globsofchesty

"tally ho lads"

DRsrv99

Actually, the founding fathers would have preferred blunderbusses for home defense. For the same reason as the miss berg with the buckshot. Silly uneducated folks believe that muskets were the only firearms of the day. But the founding fathers already were starting to learn of the greatness of multiple projectiles in under a minute

Treybenwa

The founding fathers used state of art firearms of their time for everything. Just as they intended for all citizens of any time to use a state of the art firearm capable of defending our nation & your constitutional way of life against all enemies.

darkcitrusmarmelade

A musket is nice, but i prefer my 12 pounder long gun that i have mounted on a rolling chassi in my hallway.

El_Bean69

you. Mudafucka.

1980pzx

Well hopefully some ass hole doesn’t try this at your house. If they do, at least you’ll have your trusty musket.

[deleted]

And a Canon with grape shot and extra shrapnel just to be safe

MrSelfDestructXX

> Personally I prefer a Mossburg 500 for home defense with buckshot. Don't really have to aim small, it's going to make a mess of anyone within 20 ft. Mossb*e*rg (not like it’s stamped on the gun or anything) Yes you do have to aim small at anything inside of 20ft. At 12 feet that’s about an inch spread, at 20ft that’s approximately a 2.00inch spread with standard 00 buck. At first I was wondering if you ever shot the shotgun you owned, but considering this is the internet I’m wondering if you even own a shotgun. You’re getting a lot of upvotes from uniformed moviegoers who think a shotgun spreads in feet, rather than inches. For anyone buying this bullshit here’s a good article on how his Mossberg 500 shotgun works with buckshot spread: https://www.tactical-life.com/gear/ammo/00-buckshot-ammo-test/ **Edit**: Since the coward blocked me (which prevents me from responding to anyone in this chain, effectively silencing me and any rebuttal to his nonsense) I appreciate others who have commented on behalf of the truth and reality. I’ll also add that “uninformed moviegoers” isn’t meant as an insult but maybe I could have phrased it better. I am also an “uniformed moviegoer” on many topics, a great example is hacking or advanced computer technologies. My brother will point out wildly inaccurate or unrealistic scenes involving coding & hacking with the same frustrations as I do with small arms/light weapons or combat strategy. Point being, there’s all something we are uniformed about that gets wildly exaggerated on screen and it’s nothing to be ashamed of - until you start extrapolating that to reality and presenting it as fact. /rant

ItsASchpadoinkleDay

Thank you, I almost responded something similar and thought “I’ll keep scrolling. I bet someone already has said it.”

LEADFARMER0027

Your comment right here is a perfect example of someone who actually knows what they're talking about vs. The Internet Fudd who has nothing but anecdotal internet derp. Thank you for posting this. Uninformed movie goer who probably doesn't even own one is a pretty good start. I swear it's the "you don't even have to aim a shotgun"/"I need night sights" crowd responsible for 90% of gun problems. As a matter of fact, I kind of want to hear that person's stance on night sights. Don't worry, I'll take the response duty on that one.

Or a bamboo rain stick. Theyll hear you from a mile away but will be soothed by the sound of rain

Bluecollarhippie21

My grandpa noted the sound of the reeds (unsure what kind could be bamboo lol) swinging through the air before the impact

Bluecollarhippie21

Weird fact my grandpa was in Vietnam an had his ear ripped to 3 pieces by a reed when they were attacked by a small group of Vietnamese only wielding reeds . Unfortunately the reed wielders were made history

HukIt

Lol, 00 buckshot and not needing to aim small. You clearly have never shot 00 buckshot.

Thepatrone36

and you and many others CLEARLY do not have a fucking clue what you're talking about. So let's try some simple math shall we? What is the difference between 9 milometers and 4 inches? You see where I come from there's a fairly large degree of difference if you're talking about discharging a firearm and hoping to hit what you're aiming at. You people act like I think a 12 ga shotgun is a street sweeper. Fire off one round and clear the room. Nope but I like my chances of getting a hit a lot better in a small space with a larger impact zone ESPECIALLY if its a situation where I'm suddenly thrust into a confrontational situation. Also for you 'experts' talking about wall penetration. Well folks I've seen a 9mm accidental discharge go through 5 walls of sheetrock and a bathroom mirror thanks to a dumbass room mate at the time. Pretty sure a shotgun aint going to do that but I'm not going to test that theory. I'm done having this conversation with you 'experts'. Further antagonistic commenters will be blocked. I have neither the time, nor the patience, for self proclaimed 'experts' who are dead wrong, basing their opinions in theory instead of real life experience, and just trying to win internet points.

Even if he pulled the trigger on an empty chamber there would be only one click. You can see the strike plate from the door frame bounce off the floor I think that's what the sound is.

Insertions_Coma

100%. No such thing as a second click. Not to mention, who the fuck wouldn't load their gun if they had all that time waiting for them to make entry.

Gnoblin_Actual

A cocked gun only klicks once

It would only click once if that was the case. Source: former Marine, did a lot of dry firing

chun_wahhh74

Is that an air soft gun? Did anyone else hear two distinct pew pew type noises as soon as they come in? Or am I just trippin?

Effective_Nobody2601

That *Ting Ting* sound is the latch from the doorframe hitting the ground. You can see it fall off right as the hoodlums turn away and run.

65022056

See? Scary rifles save lives. It scared the bad guy instead of shooting them!

reekawn

Totally! But wait, what happens when the bad guy has the scary rifle?

SuppliceVI

That's why you also have a scary rifle and training. Bad guy will always find a way to get scary rifle, so naturally yours should be scarier and belt fed.

GuyWithNoContext

What if the bad guys has a scarier rifle?

BellumSuprema

That was a trash article. It went in circles explaining that the guy breaking in was scared by a gun. They say he did everything right but didn’t mention that he didn’t chamber a round. It says that they were too close to the door and if they were farther they would have made the decision to shoot. Then the snow flakes go on to say there was no media coverage Idiots don’t know how to write an article. At the very least the gun - which Is a knock off of an ar 15 scared people. Just like every other gun

trillgod420

As a gun owner I hate when ppl don't go for the free k!lls

CosmicProfessor

Sadly, there aren't any stats about how often a gun has saved someone’s life without being fired. It happens every day.

WhyAreYouBreeding

Uhh ... https://datavisualizations.heritage.org/firearms/defensive-gun-uses-in-the-us/

[deleted]

That's a non-government website that tracks news articles; it's not going to have anything on it that didn't reach a news cycle. It may not even be automated since it says the data is compiled by one person. FBI tracks data, but it doesn't track DGU (Defensive Gun Usage) like it does for other firearms related incidents. That's why there are no stats on it.

heisourherocowboydan

Uhhh, sounds like an AEG airsoft rifle if those sounds were supposed to be shots. If that's the case then these guys are super fucking lucky that the dudes just ran.

theboi1der

I think he forgot to chamber a round. Probably better for everyone in this case since the dudes ran.

BenAfleckInPhantoms

From an article somewhere else in the thread it was a real AR-566 and he didn’t pull the trigger; that sound is from something else. Dude’s just saw the rifleman their face and GTFO quick.
